    Kabob Kobeda

Is it unfair if I rate a place when I used uber eats? So take as that a caveat for this review... I thoroughly enjoyed my meal from here. At first I was disappointed when I learned from the app that the chicken kobeda option was no longer available, so I instead ordered the kabob option. The food was prepared pretty fast for a Saturday night and I got my food within 30 minutes of ordering. Shoutout to my uber eats driver; the food came hot still and I enjoyed all aspects of my meal. I especially liked the sauces that came on the side! I would be interested to check out this place in real life. But until then... 5 stars to Kabul Castle Kabob!

History of Present Indulgence: Husband and wife looking for post-doctor's appointment meal. Searched on Yelp for nearby restaurants and photos of establishment drew a 10 minute walk for indulgent visit. Physical Exam: Food - Up there with the best of the best. Who needs a high end restaurant and exorbitant prices to indulge in good eats? Platter sizes are enough for 2. Entrees ordered: Kobedeh & Lamb Platter, Sambosa (no meat), and 5 piece Manto (dumplings). The depth of flavor in the meats and dumplings was incredible. Yogurt sauce with some crispy chickpeas that topped the Manto sent my taste buds over the moon. They know for sure what they're doing with the grill. Ambiance - Fast-casual setting that feels like a deli or cafeteria. There's not really an "ambiance" but there's also no need for any when the food is this good. Service - Not a place to ask about the service. It works like a deli. Order your food at the cashier, grab your food when they call your number. Assessment: Having eaten at 2 Afghan restaurants in DC now (Lapis and here), this is the place to satisfy your craving for this cuisine when you don't need the service, ambiance, or a leather-bound wine list. Frills? None. Flavor? Expect that dial turned up to 11. Plan: - Tell all my friends about it - Gotta come back for anotha one, and anotha one, and anotha one - Express envy for Georgetown residents for having this one in the neighborhood - Follow-ups recommended q3months - Come hungry, leave happy

Delicious beef kabobs! Big portions! So flavorful Came here with my dad for lunch on a Wednesday afternoon- not busy, found street parking a couple blocks away.

Delicious kabob place. We went on a Friday night and it was surprisingly not crowded. My husband and I both got the combo platter with chicken and beef. It was fresh and plentiful. Would highly recommend.

Beef Kabob, plus two fritters for Iftar

A large platter of food was just what I wanted to end the week. I got the Beef Kabob, which comes with chunks of beef over basmati rice with a side of fresh salad, your pick of vegetables (got eggplant), and bread. The best part was not knowing where to begin. I'm weird and went for the eggplant first. Tasty and already off to a good start. The beef was easy to cut and well marinated. I think I filled myself with enough of the rice, but I had to rip off a piece of bread to eat it fresh and it was so soft. Second best part: trying to figure out how to fit the leftovers in one box. They call your order number nice and loud on a speaker system when it's ready. It took a while for mine to come out since I ordered behind a party of six Georgetown students. Not much to say about the dining room (basic). It has lots of seating, which is the most important thing. Just focus on the food. This seems to be a popular place for delivery. Delivery guys were coming in and out, whisking away bags of platters, bowls, and wraps to the next happy customer.

Solid authentic Afghan spot. Very clean, friendly, and delicious. I had the Kobeda and Lamb combo. Plenty of food!

serving sizes were huge and very generous! There was a nice seating area outside, and it's more of a fast food restaurant. The chickpeas were a bit stale, but otherwise tasted delicious

YES. If you're contemplating trying this place out, DO IT! Was headed to George's, saw this place in front, decided to give it a try, was not disappointed at all. FOOD- for what you're paying, they are so generous on portions and everything comes with one side (chick peas / spinach / mixed veggies / one other I can't think of). On top of the price being great for the amount you get, the food tastes AMAZING! Especially when you come in hungry... when that food comes out after waiting for around 10 minutes, wow, you don't waste any time. I personally love the chicken kobeda with the mixed vegetables side (I don't even like peas or carrots but the way they make it... I can't get enough) SERVICE- nothing too crazy. You order, when your food is ready the buzzer buzzes, you go get your food then you either sit and eat or take it to go. PLACE/LOCATION- Street parking. Place seems very clean and well taken care of. Handful of tables and restrooms are available. RAMADAN- during the month of Ramadan, they are offering some sort of buffet for Iftar. Definitely will come back again and again.

DELICIOUS! 10/10. Staff is helpful, food is made to order, huge portions, and tastes great. They have a meat case where you can see skewers marinating. I knew it was going to be good once I realized it was locals walking in. Will definitely come back.

Had a wonderful dining experience! The food was delicious, the service was attentive, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. Definitely coming back soon!

There is a parking garage around the corner of the restaurant so that makes things very convenient. The inside decor is gorgeous and is chic but also funky fresh. I got grilled octopus over a bed of bean salad that had pieces of pomegranate in it - 10/10. The savory taste of the octopus paired against the sweetness of the salad was really delicious. For desert I got the baklava option that comes with ice cream - INCREDIBLE. You have to order it if you come here.

The serving size of the dishes I ordered were medium to small. The service was far less satisfactory than food. I tried the following dishes: 1. Complimentary pita: ~40g per piece. Not salty and paired well with the other dishes. Definitely get some! 2. Lahmacun: The lamb+beef mixture was tasty. It came with 4 pieces. 3. Branzino: ~6oz. The fish was grilled to perfection; juciy tender, and the skin was nicely charred. It was served with freh parsley and seasoned grilled tomato (salt+oregano I think). 4. Imam Bayildi: Half of an eggplant topped with sauteed onions and tomatoes. While itself was pretty normal, it went so well with the Ottoman rice. 5. Ottoman Rice: The true highlight of all the dishes I tried! It was basically Basimati rice cooked with dried apricots, raisins, almonds & pine nuts mix, and seasoned with black currant. Overall it was warm, earthy and lightly smoky. The apricot slices added some delightful sweetness and juiciness to the dish. Should pair well with Labneh, chicken and seafood. But to be honest, I can simply eat this stuff along for a whole meal! 6. Tabbouleh: They went against the traditional recipe by substituting the bulgur with quinoa and added some pomegranate arils. I liked the special texture of quinoa. The sweetness of pomegrante arils also enriched the flavors. However, I had to constantly spit the seeds when enjoying the salad. 7. Kofte: Adana style ground beef patties. Just like what I make at home haha! I ordered it as an add-on to my salad at lunchtime. It came with only 2 pieces which weighed no more than 3oz in total... Despite the delicious food, service was disappointing. The first time, the dinner, was Okay. While my food came out slowly, at least my server was aware of it and asked me how I liked the dishes. The second time, the lunch, was horrible. Even before I was seated, my server made me feel that he was reluctant to serve me, and emphasized that I had to order asap. "Luckily", I had already decided what to order. After I got my dishes, no one in the restaurant asked me if the food was Okay. And at the check, my bill was thrown onto my table. In comparison, the two ladies dining next to me came even after I started eating, but were greeted warmly and were given lots of time to decide what to order; not to mention that the staff gave them lots of suggestions, asked about their dining experience, and even chatted with them about sightseeing in DC, etc. Such discrimitory treatment is really unacceptable.

If you're hungry, come with an appetite because their bottomless brunch is the real deal! The buffet is packed with options including braised lamb, braised short rib, crispy chicken, fish, beef sausage, turkey bacon, scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes, potato latkes, hummus, salad, and so much more. There was truly something for everyone. And don't even think about skipping dessert! They have a full dessert table with brownies, baklava, fresh fruit, donuts, and other sweet little treats that make it way too easy to go back for "just one more." The bottomless drinks are an incredible value too! For just $15, you get unlimited mimosas, Bloody Marys, and coffee. Our server was absolutely fantastic. She was attentive throughout our meal, and the moment she noticed our champagne bottle was getting low, she brought us another without us even having to ask. Now that's service! The restaurant itself is on the smaller side, but they have a beautiful patio that's perfect for enjoying brunch on a nice day. And let's talk value because it's hard to beat: $36 for the all-you-can-eat brunch and $15 for bottomless drinks is an absolute steal, especially considering the quality and variety. They also offer plenty of other cocktails and beverages if mimosas aren't your thing. If you're looking for a fun brunch spot with delicious food, flowing champagne, and excellent service, Ala is definitely worth adding to your list!

The restaurant itself is stunning. Walking in, you're immediately greeted by the massive open hearth where much of the cooking happens. Watching the chefs tend the fire throughout the evening adds another layer to the experience and sets the tone before your first bite even arrives. Our server explained the tasting menu ($95 per person) and optional wine pairing ($75 pp), but we decided to order à la carte--and I wouldn't change a thing. We started with the Carrot Havuç spread. It was impossibly light, silky, and beautifully whipped. I'll admit, the bread seemed understated at first, but after the first bite, it became clear that the spread was meant to be the star. Every bite was packed with flavor. The lamb shish kebab was incredibly tender, juicy, and perfectly seasoned. The Omani shrimp arrived with five enormous shrimp that were cooked flawlessly. Then came the whole roasted chicken. Watching it roast over the fire as we entered made us excited, but nothing prepared us for how incredible it would taste. It was, without question, some of the best chicken I've ever eaten. Moist, deeply flavorful, beautifully seasoned, and delicious completely on its own. It came with an accompanying sauce that was excellent, but honestly, use it sparingly--you don't want anything distracting from the chicken itself. When a dish can stand entirely on its own, that's greatness. Since it was a whole chicken, we happily went home with leftovers (which felt like winning the lottery). The cocktails deserve their own standing ovation. A special thank you to Nancy upstairs-- Great bartenders don't just make drinks--they elevate the entire experience, and she certainly did. The Serpent was beautifully balanced with bright citrus and herbal notes, while the Medina Palmer was refreshing, unique, and one of the most memorable cocktails I've had in a long time. Every drink felt carefully crafted rather than simply mixed. In the beginning of our night they asked if we were celebrating anything and I immediately answered, "my friend graduated from nursing school." Little did we know, they came with glasses of bubbly at the end of our dining experience to celebrate! Such a lovely gesture to end our evening. The word that kept coming up throughout dinner was divine. Service was warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely enthusiastic about guiding us through the menu. A few practical tips: * Reservations book well in advance, so plan ahead. * Street parking is limited. We chose to Uber and were glad we did. The endless bread is wonderful and the server was kind and attentive. I just didn't LOVE the meal, especially for the price. The zucchini was sliced incredibly thick and felt like it might as well have been baked. The hazelnuts added a solid crunch and fun flavor, but I wanted crisp. The asparagus was decent but nothing to write home about. Hummus was... Hummus. The carrot havuc was quite good but the beet borani was the crowd pleaser. The lamb kebob was my favorite part of the meal - perfectly cooked, rightly sized, and an excellent cut of meat. The ribeye was precut and sizable, with a fair number of slices without hefty doses of fat. It was perfectly seared and paired well with the condiments. All in all, it was a good meal that felt over hyped and heavily focused on bread. The restaurant itself is designed in a way that makes you feel like you're on vacation. The open hearth is awesome to see, but gosh is it toasty. Summer time might not be the best time to visit!
