The organizer had booked the brunch about a week in advance and had coordinated with the restaurant to pay a large group deposit. The reservation was for 1:30 PM, but our table was not ready until 2 PM. When we were finally seated, the table was only set for 20 people. We were in the upstairs room with another large group, so there was no space to really add two more chairs to our table. We had to crowd into the table to accommodate the last two people. Even though the brunch is bottomless with a menu to choose from, the servers decided to just bring random items from the brunch menu to the table. Honestly, some of the worst food I have ever seen. The vegetable vitamin salad looked like slop, as did the rice/salad dish, which I'm not even sure what it was called. We were also brought a trio of three dips as well as pita and cornbread. The dips were very bland, the cornbread was dry and flavorless. As I did not like any of the items that the servers selected, I begin requesting other salads/appetizers off of the menu. I requested the Greek/Mediterranean salad and the pickles, both were very underwhelming. As far as the brunch foods, the menu was literally all over the place. Even though this is a Balkan-inspired restaurant, there were items such as fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, and shrimp and grits on the menu, which don't actually make sense in light of what Balkan cuisine is. The best thing I ate was grilled steak, which was on a platter with eggs, bacon, sausage, and potatoes. There were two Belgian dessert waffles as well which were underwhelming. The only decent thing about the entire experience is that our servers kept the mimosas flowing. Each person in our party paid $75 inclusive of tax and tip-- 100% NOT worth it.

While my husband and I were deciding whether to stay, the manager, Antonio, came to our table after Emma shared my dietary concerns. His kindness completely changed the experience. He took the time to explain my options, offered to have the kitchen modify several dishes, and reassured me that their goal was for me to feel safe and enjoy my meal. Thanks to Emma and Antonio, what started with uncertainty became one of the most enjoyable brunch experiences I've had. I was able to enjoy a variety of delicious dishes, the mimosas were a great value, and the restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful, with floor-to-ceiling windows that fill the space with natural light. What I'll remember most, though, is how genuinely cared for I felt. Before we left, Antonio stopped by one last time to make sure I was happy with my meal and that all of my needs had been met. My husband had put so much love and intention into choosing this restaurant, and thanks to Emma and Antonio, we both left with happy hearts and full bellies. The portions for the fries and meatballs were pretty teeny for the price IMO. Like I said, beer selection is out of this world. Not mad at the prices or portions there, especially given that it's largely imported. Is this personally a place I would make a go to? No. Only if I am taking out a friend who is super into beer tasting. But if I were super into French and Belgian beer and or really liked that kind of food (eg mussels and very meaty Northern European dishes) ? Maybe. So my personal recommendation is to come, have beer, enjoy the ambiance, and treat food as an afterthought for if you need something to eat.

It is $11+tax but it is worth the money. I enjoy every bite of it. It comes with a small bag of potato chips. The mussels were offered in a Thai curry sauce but we asked for another serving option due to an allergy concerns. They offered us a white wine and garlic option and we gladly took it. The mussels were cooked very well, the flavor was clean and mild but could have used stronger seasoning, The fried calamari was executed perfectly. It was crispy, tender, flavorful with zero greasiness. The garlic tomato aioli accompanied the dish well. We shared the beef medallions as our entree and a side of fries because I spotted a server carrying fish and chips and the steak fries style potatoes were speaking to me. The steak was tender and flavorful and the Demi glaze brought the dish together. The fries were crispy and salty and wonderful, I'm glad I was inspired. We saved room for dessert and chose churros and Dubai chocolate. Both were a great finish to our dining experience.

I had much higher expectations for this place and when I finally found it last weekend, I was let down! The food was fine, but I'd echo everybody elses complaint that it is very very overpriced for "cafe" food. Which again I totally understand but then they give you a bunch of jackass servers who've got their heads so far up their asses they can do a colonoscopy! And the other thing which I really didn't like about this place is that the menu, just like the seating area is extremely limited. If you don't like what they have you can't just order something like a cupcake or croussaint. And all their stuff is fancy schmancy as they try to push that bullsh*t Euro ambience! I'd probably recommend this place only for coffee or cappuccinos because like I said, if you're going to pay $50 for two people to eat, the price range gives you plenty of options. And you can get much better food and service for that much deniro! So I personally am not a fan of this joint. And their location is very dreary, how its in a alleyway surrounded by buildings. I've been here several times over the past 10 years and the service has always been marginal. The servers are not very attentive since staffing is always short. I decided to give them another shot. Went there at 3pm Saturday and waited to be seated. The host looked at my friend and I (both African Americans) and stated "you have to order a full meal, not just a drink and appetizer in order to be seated" I challenged her and asked why did she feel the need to say that and was that a standard part of her script to EVERYONE. I was offended, because I'm certain that she doesn't tell everyone what she told us. Smh. She was visibly taken aback and appeared to be very nervous. I continued my hard questioning of what she described as the "restaurants policy" she couldn't handle the pressure. We ended up staying and having a decent brunch with terrible service (as usual) never again. I will pass on this 3rd rate establishment until management changes. read more

I recently visited Café Leopold and had an incredible meal! I ordered the schnitzel and the steak tartare, and both were delightful. The schnitzel, in particular, was absolutely perfect--crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and full of flavor. It's easily one of the best I've had in the DC area. The steak tartare was also very good, though it wasn't the traditional style with an egg yolk. It had a unique twist that I still enjoyed, but the schnitzel was the standout for me. I would highly recommend the schnitzel to anyone visiting, and I'll definitely be returning for it soon! Café Leopold is a gem in DC, and I can't wait to go back. read more

I use to hang out in georgetown a lot but have never visit this place till today. After 2 hours of stand up paddling, a friend of mine suggested this place. It is located in a small tiny alley in grorgetown n is not that obvious unless you know how to reach it. There menu has a variety of options such as wine, coffee, cake, tea and even food. We ordered the hazelnute and almonde cake and the Chocolate Temtation with green tea. I loved the choclate so bad. It was $7.5 and not big but fancy and delicious. The staff were nice n friendly. I really really wanted to hate this place. I went there when it first opened and my waiter was fired while I was having lunch. Have not been back for years. My girl came by my work and wanted to go to lunch I suggested some dark bars and she wanted to go to leopolds. Fudge. So I went remembering my last time but keeping my mouth shut so we might have a good time. We were seated like before we got to the door. I Love this Kafe, and come everytime I am in town. It reminds me of my Austrian roots, its one of the few places in America I can get Julius Meinl coffee, their desserts are authentic and as good as any Austrian Konditorei. The menu has adapted from Austrian favorites like the must have Schnitzel, to popular twists like the kale salad which my wife aslo has to have every time she is in town. If we are lucky enough to come when its warm, it has one of the few outdoor patios where you can relax and enjoy the European feel of the surrounding Designer Stores. read more

I love the food, the pastries taste like heaven, always fresh; the staff are quiet nice for the most part except of one lady that seems to be a manager there- she just makes me not wanting to come back there. She never says hello, doesn't put an effort to try to be friendly, and one time I said hello to her, she looked at me but never responded. Very rude, very unprofessional. I used to love this place, but man, it has gone downhill. I came with a friend who asked for dairy free options (lactose intolerance) but they are not very knowledgable about their options. My friend ordered the Kale salad without the cheese, but felt horrible after. Was there still something else in it? I had the Steak, which was cold and wasn't prepared the same way I used to love it. Went there with a colleague early in the evening on a weekday, we sat near the window which i think is the best spot. It was ideal since it wasn't too crowded and we could hear one another talk. Our server was new but he did a great job -- very attentive without being overbearing. Both of us had the steak tartare, salmon toast and scramble eggs which were delicious. We so enjoyed our first experience at Kafe Leopold. What a treat and hidden jewel in the heart of Georgetown. We visited on Sunday morning around 11am for a brunch and had to wait for about 30min, that was a good sign :) Service was excellent, food delicious and coffee outstanding! A restaurant that says, "we're emotional about these recipes, so no substitutions, please" has to be pretty confident about their dishes. I absolutely loved the avocado toast with perfectly poached eggs. The avocado was perfectly blended with the right amount of citrus. One of my favorite places in DC during summertime because they have this great open terrace that has absolutely no noice but you have to come early for breakfast because brunch gets really busy. The sauce was a bit much, but it complements the dumplings well in moderation. KEŞKÜL - 13 The almond pudding was addictive -- not too sweet and slightly nutty, making you want more and more of it. This was definitely our favorite dessert of the night and they were incredibly generous with the amount of almonds they give you! REVANI - 15 A bit dense, sweeter than I'd like -- this is a corn flour cake with some whipped cream and rhubarb jam on the side. Our server said this was one of the "less sweet" dessert options, so the ones we didn't order are probably a lot sweeter. Food was good, and we had a great experience! We shared several small plates mezze style with fresh pide (bread), all of which were delicious: Enginar Dolmasi: The blossoms were perfectly cooked, the lemon provided great acidity, the onion crunch, and the rice creaminess. Girit Ezmesi: The star dish-rich, creamy, the right amount of salt, tons of delicious cheese, amazing with the pide. Manti: Well-cooked beef dumplings, perfect dough texture, and a delicious yogurt sauce. However, it didn't really remind me of the cafés in Scandinavia. I think that this was not very representative of what I remember Scandinavian as.
