If the party isn't over after dinner and it's not too late, might I recommend a quick stop at Kate Leopold? They've got a full bar, a lovely kitchen, and some baked good to die for. The servers are patient and helpful (especially with pronunciation of some of the food items). I like the overall vibe of the place as well, comfy and European. The emperors pancakes are delicious and very filling. Go in knowing they take a while to put together and will completely stuff you if you don't share with some friends. Highly recommend this stop in georgetown!

Our party of three got here around 930pm to end the night with dessert. I decided to get the Sachertorte and for my coffee drink the Melange. Normally, I don't go for any other drinks besides lattes, cappuccinos, or espressos, but the melange, which was coffee topped with a foamy cream sprinkled with cocoa perfectly accompanied my dessert. We decided to sit outside in their quiet patio and it was great we were the only ones seated outside. I guess folks wanted to stay away from the heat. Definitely, this is a great place to end the night for dessert and coffee. I've been here before for their brunch weekends and it is super-packed. The service has been consistently exceptional, which is great!

We have always enjoyed brunch at Kafe Leopold and were very impressed with the food and service at dinner tonight. Mussels made an outstanding appetizer for the table. Veal schnitzel topped with arugula came in a huge portion, enough for two meals. The special swordfish entree was succulent and tasty. Our server, Atem, was thoroughly professional and took great care with the kitchen to handle a gluten allergy for one diner.

Cute table in the corner. Adorable decor.

We were hot and tired from the walk across the bridge to Georgetown and needed a/c and a little snack. Omg. This place is so cute. They accommodated five of us ladies and were super friendly and helpful. We had a few really yummy dishes tea sandwiches and a little salad and a mushroom taste. And a meat and cheese plate. Great spot. Menu looked amazing. Austrian choices.

I have no reasonable explanation as to why it took me two decades in the area to finally go to Kafe Leopold, but better late than never. I always compartmentalized it as a breakfast/brunch place, but actually the modern indoors and cozy, European alley with the fountain proved me wrong. This place has significant Austrian heritage embedded, but isn't exclusive if that is not your thing. I approve the Wiener veal schnitzel and the melange. Manage your expectations with the potato salad (if your bar is Figlmuller like me) and the pastries (cause this is not Cafe Central.) However, this truly is the closest to a European cafe at the heart of Georgetown.

This is my go to spot in Georgetown if I don't want to just go to another bar after dinner. Kafe Leopold has great desserts and cocktails. Service can be a bit slow but it's a good vibe to hang out and chill.

Happy to enjoy another great meal at Kafe Leopold. I tried a couple of things today that I've never had here, including Leopold's Hühnersalat (field green salad with lemon & herb grilled chicken, walnuts, & champagne vinaigrette) and Sachertorte (dark chocolate cake layered with apricot preserves & a chocolate glaze). Everything was delicious. I was surprised at how heavy the chicken was in the chicken to salad ratio. For whatever reason, I expected more salad and less chicken, but hey, I'm like many Americans--meat isn't offensive, especially when it's so tasty and moist. The Sachertorte isn't the same as you will find at the Hotel Sacher in Vienna, but what can you expect? It's definitely a good proxy of the original, and it's a delicious version in its own right. Great service and small Austrian touches like the branded chocolate that accompanied the coffee truly brings back memories of Austria. It's always a pleasure to come "home" (I lived in Austria off and on for almost a decade) to Kafe Leopold.

I enjoyed coming to this cafe. I came here for dinner. I liked all the meats and cheeses on the charcuterie board. The branzino was good and the sausage was flavorful as well. The cocktail I had was well made and refreshing. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating available. The outdoor seating area is nice when the weather is warm. I would definitely want to come back to try some of their desserts and pastries since they looked amazing.

Kafe Leopoldo is all about aesthetics and vibe. Tucked away in an ally off M street quickly takes you out of the hustle and bustle and into a nice little courtyard. Its location does well to give it a quaint European vibe. The coffee is delicious, the food is a little over priced but nicely presented. Service was a bit slow when I went. Definitely recommend stopping by to hang out for a coffee and snack

The last time I came here was probably 10 years ago but their pastries are still the star of the show. We wanted to find a dog friendly place for dinner in late October and Kafe Leopold delivered. They had outdoor patio seating with heat lamps and blankets. The food was standard. Service was great. We were seated right away on a Saturday night.

A group of 5 of us sat outside. There were a few uninvited guests- Mosquitos! Round tables hard to put together - we had a big one and a small one for our party of 5. Uncomfortable chairs outside. Airplanes were loud. The Elderflower martini was delicious! My friend got the Spiced Negroni and enjoyed it. I got the Branzino and would get it again. The schnitzel was popular and enjoyed by others. Loved the French fries. We ordered 7 desserts to split between 6 of us. Highly recommend the desserts. The lemon tart was my favorite.

Lovely place for afters once dinner is finished at another Georgetown establishment! I've only been for drinks and dessert but plan to visit soon for dinner. They have an extensive list of Austrian pastries/cakes and cocktails. Very trendy but casual vibes.

Really enjoyed brunch here! Especially if you can sit outside it's really nice. Our server was good, but you can tell they were busy and felt like he was the only one working outside. I ordered the ham and cheese croissant and woah. With the bachemel sauce...wow. If you don't know what that is, just trust me when I say this white creamy sauce will elevate your meal. So delicious!!! The salad was weak; I'd appreciate some light dressing or vinaigrette to add some flavor. My friends and I shared the berry French toast which was very good! Who doesn't like to end with something sweet. Baked nicely, berry compote added more dimension and thankfully our server brought us some whip cream - should come with it already honestly. Overall, everyone was happy with their meal! Cute little hidden spot in the alleys. Check it out!

The organizer had booked the brunch about a week in advance and had coordinated with the restaurant to pay a large group deposit. The reservation was for 1:30 PM, but our table was not ready until 2 PM. When we were finally seated, the table was only set for 20 people. We were in the upstairs room with another large group, so there was no space to really add two more chairs to our table. We had to crowd into the table to accommodate the last two people. Even though the brunch is bottomless with a menu to choose from, the servers decided to just bring random items from the brunch menu to the table. Honestly, some of the worst food I have ever seen. The vegetable vitamin salad looked like slop, as did the rice/salad dish, which I'm not even sure what it was called. We were also brought a trio of three dips as well as pita and cornbread. The dips were very bland, the cornbread was dry and flavorless. As I did not like any of the items that the servers selected, I begin requesting other salads/appetizers off of the menu. I requested the Greek/Mediterranean salad and the pickles, both were very underwhelming. As far as the brunch foods, the menu was literally all over the place. Even though this is a Balkan-inspired restaurant, there were items such as fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, and shrimp and grits on the menu, which don't actually make sense in light of what Balkan cuisine is. The best thing I ate was grilled steak, which was on a platter with eggs, bacon, sausage, and potatoes. There were two Belgian dessert waffles as well which were underwhelming. The only decent thing about the entire experience is that our servers kept the mimosas flowing. Each person in our party paid $75 inclusive of tax and tip-- 100% NOT worth it.

A very nice touch to add a stem of Rose for the women. I would say that I gave it a lower star rating not because the food was bad. It was actually delicious, but probably the experience itself. The restaurant felt chaotic, and even though all the tables were not completely packed of course there were flowers everywhere people gathering with grandmother's mother's children, etc We were seated in a two people table and all the top past dishes started to pile up very quickly. Instead of monitoring, the progress of the finished dishes and removing those dishes due to space constraint, the dishes came from the kitchen, almost on top of one another, and at one point I had to hold a dish in my hand in order to make space to put a dish on top of another flatbread pan/dish, making things super chaotic. Also dishes had to be put on top of the menu because in order to order additional food, you need to leave at least one copy of the menu at the table. Overall, again the flavors and taste were good, though I might have had similar dishes from other places, and my partner commented that some of it is actually very close to the Capital One landing at DCA. I would just say that it was more due to the chaos and just the way that all the dishes piled up on top of us we felt like we were we had to eat super quickly so that we could stack dishes ourselves and create room at the table. Also, when serving the dishes were not kept level and basically was slide to the side of the dish, making presentation off

The beer selection is incredible, vibes are solid - it is pretty old world and upscale for a beer joint - but if you are looking for a full meal vegetarians should go elsewhere. They *have* vegetarian options but it's one of those things where they do the bare minimum because they have to and your choices are like...the one thing. Which leads me to the one vegetarian entree, the risotto. It was fine. Not mindblowing. Small portion for the price - small portions all around, frankly. See my pic. Our server, who was impressively attentive/efficient given that he was the only person making the rounds to all of the tables in the upstairs room, which were packed because of the World Cup, recommended getting.the brussels sprouts small plate without bacon, so I did. I did not like it. It came with pomegranate seeds and a sauce that were sweet but then had parmesan and savory flavors that did not go. I suspect the salty, fatty bacon was important to balancing out these flavors. People I was with got house pickles, fries and meatballs which all appeared solid. The portions for the fries and meatballs were pretty teeny for the price IMO. Like I said, beer selection is out of this world. Not mad at the prices or portions there, especially given that it's largely imported. Is this personally a place I would make a go to? No. Only if I am taking out a friend who is super into beer tasting. But if I were super into French and Belgian beer and or really liked that kind of food (eg mussels and very meaty Northern European dishes) ? Maybe. So my personal recommendation is to come, have beer, enjoy the ambiance, and treat food as an afterthought for if you need something to eat.

It would have been better to have oversized forks and large spoons for serving some of the dishes (ex, filleting the whole fish was a challenge withy a regular fork even though it was ore-cut) and (2) they did not change out the silverware during the meal. It would have been good to have a clean fork when changing from fish to meat, etc. One of the guests wanted 2 orders of potato latkes to go and offered to pay cash separately. The quickly and pleasantly accommodated her. I would highly recommend this place.

Wonderful dining experience! I first learned of this place when they won a James Beard Award in…read more2024, but wasn't able to eat here until yesterday. Excellent food, both in taste and visual presentation (bravo chef, and thank you for the meet & greet). Excellent service, thank you Shawna for being so kind, explaining the menu, and making us feel warm and special. Bread/water guy (sorry didn't catch your name) was also always on it refilling water, and offering bread without being asked. Alex, also gets a shout out for the service and attention! All the variety of breads and butter (esp the ramp/onion butter) were delicious, chicken/truffle tortellini app, crab salad, lamb entree, dover sole entree, pear/yuzu dessert, strawberry cake were my favorites. Thank you also for the birthday treat :) we will be back again!

Amazing. A gem in Easton, MD. The food is delicious, the staff extremely attentive w/out being…read moreintrusive, and the atmosphere exquisite. Hard to find an elegant restaurant like this anymore where the food and ambiance are superb. Being a bit "old-school" about fancy restaurants, I like getting dressed up and going to a place that feels special. This is the place. Not only is the food delicious, but expertly presented. An amazing bread basket that I had to refrain from eating too much as I knew my dinner would be rich and filling. Also, the cocktails are superb. Even though many restaurants now serve specialty cocktails, they don't always live up to expectations. Here at Bas Rouge they are mixed beautifully. One should be aware that, although I believe you can order al a carte, it's mainly a three/four or seven course menu. NOTE: I was extremely dismayed to see that they had foie gras on the menu. Especially seeing that this restaurant is named after I believe the owner's breed of dog that he loves, I believe foie gras, as many people do, is animal cruelty to produce. They also serve veal that again, is usually from animals confined to crates that stunt their growth. Sorry for the bummer ending, just stating what I believe is factual.
