How is this place not busier!?! We came in for a late lunch and were seated instantly. The server was super helpful. I wasn't too hungry, but I needed some flavor. I ordered the crispy Alaska rolls. It was everything I love about sushi. The ingredients were fresh, the jalapeños were the perfect level of heat and the creamy eel sauce added extraordinary flavor. Stopped by Kai Sushi after discovering another sushi spot was closed ~for the holiday weekend~ but was pleasantly surprised! We're adventurous, so tried several of the rolls, along with appetizers, and was not disappointed. The salmon (sake) nigiri was a nice, thick cut of salmon and the meat was fresh. The croquettes were crispy and delicious coupled with their spicy Mayo. All of our rolls came out quickly and beautifully- my favorite probably being the Kai and the Heart Attack. Rolls did not skimp on the fish, but weren't too overwhelming of a bite. Would definitely go again! read more

We really love the quality of the food here but unfortunately we just cannot love the service. Tonight was our 4th attempt and we left with another disappointing experience. The first time we waited 20 min for someone to take our order. The 2nd time we attempted to place a take out order and was told that they weren't doing takeout orders after 5 pm.. it was 5:05 and it was not busy. The 3rd time the waitress was incredibly rude and never came back to fill our water or check on us plus they were out of 3 ingredients which eliminated several of the rolls on the menu. Tonight we attempted to place a pickup order.. we began calling 50 min before close and the phones were disconnected. We show up 30 min to close and they are closed. No note on the door, no post on their website or social media. I can understand facing challenges occasionally but facing this many in just a few months is enough to make us not want to attempt coming back. My Fiancé and I have been to Kai a few times and it is our goto for sushi in Everett. They have solid veggie rolls for the vegetarians out there (like my fiancé) but they do great rolls and nigiri for the rest of us too. Last night we grabbed two cream cheese cucumber rolls, a cali roll, an eel roll and the veggie gyoza and tempura. All were delicious. This was our first time doing carryout from Kai. For our dine in experience we have had good food and good service. The wait staff has been friendly, courteous, and touches base at the table with the right frequency. Drinks are refilled quickly and the food is never left waiting at the counter too long to be served. My usual gauge of a sushi joint is whether it looks like a hole in the wall or not. If it does that's usually a good sign. Kai doesn't give that vibe too hard but it also doesn't feel like there was a huge amount of effort in the decor. The goal is clearly good food. If I had one complaint it is that it can be hard to get in. I haven't figured out the pattern but some nights it is packed out with an hour wait. Other nights one can walk right in. Kai never seems dead so I wonder if a bigger space would work for them if they wanted to grow. read more

Unbelievable sushi, regardless of price. Most specialty rolls were $12-14, while traditional rolls were $5-6. Everything was fresh, with great flavor combinations. We started with the chili ponzu hamachi and karaage, and for sushi had a spicy tuna roll, tuna tataki, kiss of fire, Baja roll, and the black dragon. Still better than most sushi in the area, but they're slipping a bit. This used to be our favorite sushi place, but we were left unimpressed after our last visit. The size of their rolls shrank during COVID and the service is very slow & forgetful. We used to rave about their Monkey brain, but it was significantly smaller and tasted fishy this time. The dasher orders also seem to take priority over the people in the seats and it's never a good idea to sweep up while people are trying to eat. I prefer my sushi without an extra dusting of dirt. The restaurant floor was dirty, but it looked like it had been there a while and should have been swept before opening for the day. read more

Had a really pleasant dining experience here! We ordered the jalapeño poppers, spicy tuna on crispy rice, sashimi sampler, sake sashimi, the Washington roll and miso soups. Everything was great! The sashimi was so delicate and fresh. We usually ask for wild sockeye but forgot to this time around and were served farmed salmon but it still tasted surprisingly buttery. Highly recommend the yellowfin tuna sashimi and the jalapeño poppers, which are stuffed with cream cheese and tuna and deep fried with a yummy tempura batter. We also ordered an unfiltered sake which was incredibly creamy and the right amount of sweetness. Highly recommend this spot and will be back! read more

If you have an autistic child, do not come here! My child was playing with a couple of the saucers, not throwing them or anything destructive. One of the workers (not our waitress) very rudely and without warning, came by and snatched the saucers and told my child not to play with it. As most autistic children do, my child started having a meltdown. Before I could lose my cool, we asked for boxes, took our food, and paid the bill. We will not be coming back. Life with an autistic child is challenging, so we rarely go out to eat. But sometimes, we would like to experience the things that normal people do. That rude woman reminded me how there are grown adults out there that have no grace!! Maybe next time, have some patience, they're not bad kids like you assume they are and parents like us are trying our very best. People like you do not make it easier. Came just after opening on a Sat and already they were full! We came here to try the vegan offerings. Waitress was super helpful in pointing out what we could have from the menu. There are vegetarian options listed but asking questions we quickly learned what vegans could also eat from the list. Green tea here is wonderful. Cup gets super hot, but tea was perfect temperature and taste. The food was excellent. Ate way too much, but enjoyed every bite. Service was great. We will be back. our favorite of our options was the veggie roll. The avocado roll is smooth and good, but needed something else, so I piled on the wasabi. The asparagus roll was tasty and crunchy. My husband said the cucumber roll was good, but again, needed something else to round it out. Hence, the veggie roll being our favorite overall b/c it had lots of different flavors. The veggie goyza was ok. Texture is different than meat goyza so I mentally was fighting the past experience with goyza. We have previously eaten here from the full menu and never had a bad meal. It's been a while since I had sushi, and I love that I had sushi with my boys across the country from my home! Voted best sushi in Everett a few years ago was a good sign (literally) to see. The reviews are what lead me here and they were right! We ordered 3 specialty rolls, appetizer and a lunch special. The specialty rolls- the spider roll, the alaska roll and the shrimp lovers were a huge hit for the table. Fresh, flavorful and gone pretty quickly. My middle son was devouring these rolls over his lunch special he ordered. He ordered a philly roll and a california roll (he's a sushi amateur). I love the spider roll- that was what I ordered and I barely shared any of my roll! I did partake in the other two rolls- the shrimp lovers is delicious and the alaska roll great too! Add in the gyoza was perfectly fried too! The boys rounded out the sushi overload with some mochi balls. I predict a future visit back here! My youngest will definitely be back! read more

Agadashi tofu was delightful. My daughter inhaled her avocado rolls. I enjoyed my salmon roll. I looked for a spider roll or other tempura or crispy-textured roll on the menu but couldn't find one.
