After tonight's dining experience it is safe to say this the absolutely my least favorite location. Both in service and taste. Even the side dishes tasted subpar from the other Kaju's standard and we have been dining an various Kaju locations for over 8 years. The 2 ahjumas didn't make the experience any better. I don't know what happened to this place. I used to like coming here, and I preferred it over BCD Tofu. But my recent experience hasn't been too pleasant. Service: 3 out of 5 Although I only ordered take-out and didn't dine in, their service was subpar. The host just handed my order without saying a word or any greetings upon entrance. I was really surprised at their inertness. Food: 3 out of 5 I used to like this place over BCD Tofu because they gave more types of banchans and their selections were very good....but not anymore. Not only they've raised their prices, (which everyone did to be fair), but they also skimped on their banchans and their portions. They only gave 3 types of banchans in tiny little portions with my order of Soft Tofu soup. They also didn't give me the egg that you would typically mix in with the soup. To be fair, the soft tofu was still good, but I had to use my own egg from home that was missing with my take-out order. I ordered my soup.very spicy, but it came out to be mild. So, again I had to enhance with seasonings from home to make it the way I wanted it. Ambiance: 3 out of 5 They're located in the same plaza as 99 Ranch, so parking can be a hassle at times, like on weekends. Overall, I won't be coming back here anymore. I actually liked my visit here. Even though I did a togo order, the staff here were friendly and fast. Our tofu soups were really good and not overly salty. My husband is Korean and so he has been eating Korean food his whole life and he likes the tofu soups here- that says a lot! The prices are a little high for what we are used to but it's as good as it gets in this side of Irvine in terms of tofu soup. Parking in this plaza sucks. read more

I give a solid 8/10 for the food, but a 2.5/10 for the service so I balanced it out to a 3 star review (I'm not good at math, don't come for me) We were waiting at the store front for a solid 8 minutes because no one would notice us and sit us down. The restaurant was probably only half full, but there was only 1 lady working like all the tables. Please hire more people!!! Your soondubu is daank and I want to really like this place. A little surprising this currently sits at 3.5. Very satisfying feast, especially for a cold night! Banchan assortment is pretty good and the combos are incredible value. A price of $24-27 will typically get you just the plate of LA Galbi or pork (or even less) but here you get the soondubu as well! Comparable to BCD for me. read more

The good things about this restaurant is the food and their interior design The service is terrible! The menu was not clear. We tried to order a combo (tofu and beef) (about $27) and the options of tofu soups are not listed under the combo name. I have to order another tofu soup on another page ($16.99). When I asked the waitress to explain, she rolled her eye balls, and spoke in a disrespectful manner. When we ordered another tofu soup meal, she only gave us the soup, not the cold dishes. But when we ordered the one tofu soup previously, we were given several small dishes. So $16.99 for just a soup. It is pricey, but the money didn't buy the good service. They should train their staff to be more professional. read more

Not as a yummy as the GG location. Service is meh and grouchy looking server doesn't help you feel welcome. Asked for hot tea but got only water. My 4 year old niece said the water was yucky and my friend got diarrhea. All side dishes had way too much sugar and the rice from the pot was lackluster. Was looking to get some hot tofu soup on a cold day so we called them up to see when they closed. They said 8:30 for last kitchen orders even though online it said 10 but thats why i call ahead just in case. So i head over and get there at 8:25 only to be told they were closed lol. I understand closing early when there are no customers but there were atleast 4 other parties still ordering/eating. Please just be honest next time, what was the point of lying to your customers? All it did was waste other people's time. Now i gotta find another tofu spot knowing that BCD is mid and Kaju has bad service. read more

Our family's go to tofu soup place. Came here recently and the place did get a make over. It is a little more bright and airy. Came here during dinner and was greeted nicely by the ladies & was seated quite fast! We were then given water and then the sides came right after. The lovely lady then took our order and even recommended some dish. While we waited for our meal to arrive we enjoyed eating the side dishes. Server came back and offered to give more of the side dishes that were gone without asking! Awesome!! Our soup came in piping hot and everything tasted delicious. Super nostalgic classic soondooboo spot with the hotstone rice. Make sure to ask them to pour tea in there. No wait even on a rainy day. Service was great, and super accommodating to the little one. When we asked they provided scissors so we could cut our meat smaller for the little one. The # of total banchan's wasn't high, but they gave a lot and had all the classics and were all good: whole fried fish, fish cake, jjapchae, kimchi, cucumber kimchi and bean sprouts. The best is always spicy kimchi & pork tofu. My only knock but not worth taking a star off was that they didn't serve soju and beer. read more

I had enough cash to pay my bill, and having a sign that says "6% discount if paid with cash" motivated me to pay with cash. After checking out, I got a $5 dollar off my bill. I decided to leave 3 as tip. As I got out of the restaurant, one of the ladies followed me and said that my tip was small in comparison with the discount. I told her that tips are gratitude and not required. She told me to go home and not come back. I won't be going back because the food sucks, and the lady was very rude. Terrible Customer service. I went there to try to buy a bottle of water. They refused to sell to me the bottle of drink and told me "Go to market". I asked them why I can't buy bottle water, they said "No" in a very cold manner and directed me to go the market. They also asked me if I would pay 2.50$ ? They are a solid 4 to 4 1/2 stars overall. The food is good and always consistent. They do take out really well and package it up nicely.

Tofu soup has always been the key to conquer them cold, rainy night blues. It was mine & my bf's first time here, so we decided to share the tofu + galbi (beef bbq ribs) combo. Just like any other tofu place, you have the option of choosing which soup you'd like & I opted for my absolute favorite, the kimchi & beef. While waiting for our food, they started us off with some side dishes. Our taste buds enjoyed them all, maybe a little too much considering we had about 3 rounds of them (they're complimentary, thank goodness lol). My soup was great: not too salty with a generous yet balanced amount of all the tofu, kimchi, & beef. Also, my bf is usually very picky with his galbi, but he really enjoyed this one & its tenderness. Our waitress, Esther, was an absolute sweetheart & even if it was such a busy night, their service was still exceptional. The only downside is they are a little pricier than the usual especially for their portion sizes (paid almost $30 for the combo) but it's still a great solution to a tofu soup craving. read more

Food is always amazing. Service at this restaurant was horrible our waitress was extremely rude and upset that my family of 10 was sharing soups. ? I've been to the other two locations in Buena Park and garden grove and never experienced this level of rudeness and irritation from any server. Quiet the opposite the other locations are welcoming and understanding. The portions are large and because we have children we don't order full entrees for everyone. Just okay. In fairness, Kaju is in Central Irvine where competition for Korean Soft tofu is fierce. That said, there's nothing special about the food at Kaju. I ordered the octopus bibimbop. I specifically asked for them to make it less spicy. It was very spicy. Unfortunately it was not tasty spicy, just hot. The amount of octopus was minimal at best . There was also a sparse amount of other toppings. Once mix d together, it was like eating spicy rice. Thankfully, my daughter was willing to trade. Her sausage soft tofu was average to bland. There is in my book a difference between spicy flavorful versus just spicy. It was the latter. The fried dumplings were also unremarkable. The variety of side dishes was below average for Irvine. There were only five. There are too many good Korean restaurants in close proximity to Kaju and too many better non Korean restaurants in the same shopping center to consider eating at Kaju. I've been coming here for probably 15 years. I no longer live in Irvine, but I was having a super crazy busy time at work, and stopped here on my way back from a work thing. I thought to myself, "I DESERVE THIS." Although I came here for the soft tofu, obviously, a big motivation for coming here is also for the side dishes. I ordered the kimchee beef tofu bowl, and fully took advantage of the side dishes. I only wanted one round of side dishes, since as much as I love Korean food, I only have one stomach. However, they saw that I had finished a bunch of the side dishes and brought me round two - well, OK, if you insist... This place is consistent and hits the spot. I left very happy. We had a wonderful dinner here.. we ordered japchae, bibimbop and galbi, and a pancake. The pancake is amazing with shredded vegetables and it is just a little crisp. The bibimbop was about the just a little crisp on the bottom.. quite often it is) impossible to get off the bottom. The galbi had some gristle and the onions needed a little more time, but oh so flavorful. They served the traditional sides. My favorite was the marinated fish cake.. It's cold season and slurping on the spicy hot Tofu sounds really good right now!!! Me and my husband usually share a combo of I think short ribs and spicy tofu (Not sure, I just sit and eat. He does the ordering), with unlimited sides and they never mind giving us as much sides as we want. They serve this really good fried fish that is not filet, so watch out for its eyeball looking at you! The food taste fresh and delicious! The service is good. Good food at an above averages price. Came here with my brother for lunch because it was close to his work. Place was very busy when I arrived (around 1pm) and there were only 2 servers. Wait was longer than I would of liked but both servers were working very hard. I ordered the #1 (soft tofu and short ribs). Food came out hot and there were plenty of side dishes. The short ribs were cooked perfectly and were delicious. I loved the beef tofu and scarfed it down before letting it completely cool down. Although I enjoy places like Kaju Soft Tofu and BCD Tofu House, I don't eat them normally because I feel there is better value at an AYCE Korean bbq restaurant. Overall, I had a good experience here, recommend it if you are looking for soft tofu soup, and will most likely be back one day. read more

Worst service and attitudes from the ladies that work here. my 10 year old niece wanted Galbi and my sister and her ordered food that cost almost $40 and the ladies started talking and complaining in Korean coz I didn't want to order food and I'm sure they were complaining that there's only 2 people not 3 that would be eating. They keep watching us to make sure I did not eat their banchan. Calm down!!! from the looks of it not the first one that complained about this. I can't believe this place is still open. My family and I used to eat here all the time before all the Tofu houses came in South Oc. Word of advice you're in Irvine lots of other tofu houses that are way better, less salty and prob better food. I'm sure the people that come here are the people that don't want to wait in line at other places and there's a reason why. This place is wayyy better than the other Kaju place on Culver. The other place tasted like dish water with tofu, but this place has awesome side dishes and soft tofu. Idk what the other bad reviews are talking about bc this place has always been consistent. And the ladies are always nice and accommodating. Go here and stay away from the Culver one. read more
