We loved the food and the friendly island vibes. I had the short ribs and they were delicious. The macaroni salad was also tasty. My hubby had the loco moco. The hamburger was cooked perfectly as was the egg. The food here is plentiful and the service is prompt. The staff made sure we had boxes and even came by to refill our drinks. We went here for the first time yesterday for breakfast it's all new and pretty inside. The service is good, it's a bit different you go up and order and pay, then they bring your food. We had croissants they were huge and so yummy!!! They looked so good I forgot to even take a picture ‍ all and all this was a very nice experience. Upon visiting Maui 3 years ago, I stumbled upon Kaleis food truck by the airport. Loved the fried mahi plate. Couldn't wait to come back upon my return three years later. Now, they have a physical store by the airport which we went to. Still the same great food. Also, had to try the one in Lahaina before flying back home. The big kahuna plate was the bomb. Tater tots and the Cobb salad were also good. The inside feels a little like an upscale Denny's. It is very clean and all the staff are friendly. This is THE place to go for Hawaiian plate lunch. What a great combination of service, hospitality and tasty food. My son has significant food allergies and a lot of other nearby restaurants were either not accommodating or not very knowledgeable about food allergies but the staff here went above and beyond when they easily could have blown us off. My son also remarked how nice one of the hostess/cashiers was when they assisted a customer to their car with all of their bags. Food was tasty, filling and a great value given the generally high prices in the area. Came here twice within a couple days and they weren't too busy with in-person dining. Air conditioning! Affordable, clean, delicious food. Our family has been coming in to eat breakfast, lunch, dinner and each time the food has been delicious and good size. It has given us a place to meet friends and family in Lahaina, next to the grocery store. My favorite is the Chantilly pancakes, the Cobb salad with seared ahi, hamburger steak plate, and their desserts! Kalei's is locally owned and a big giver to the community. You have to go up to order it's not like a typical restaurant in that regards but the workers are really friendly. The overall ambiance is really nice as well which I appreciate. I ordered the big kahuna, a mixed plate with mochiko chicken, hamburger steak, and a fish filet served with tartar sauce, Everything was tasty, however, the mochiko chicken was cold. I let my waitress know and she offered to get it heated up. This implies they do not cook it to order and instead precook the mochiko chicken and heat it up before serving. They forgot to heat it up. The older Caucasian lady who helped us came off as judgmental from the start, and honestly, it felt like she was being discriminatory. When it came time to pay, she didn't show us the card machine or the total, just asked if we were paying by card. I had to specifically ask to see it and also to get a receipt. On top of that, we noticed there were already extra charges were added without our knowledge.
