Last time I was here, it was in a smaller location.. obviously some time ago. It is in a former Sherri's and that's good. The food there was fantastic and enough servers to accommodate the larger building. Our server was super friendly and kept checking on us periodically. I would highly recommend this place if your hungry and want some delicious food !! read more

I was served almost black hash browns and returned them only to get oily uncooked potatoes. Also a huge amount of grease with the chicken fried steak. Saw two flies. The menus, utensils, napkins and coffee cups were displayed on the table before we were seated, to have to be peeled off the damp, previously wiped table and the server had to remove 2 services. read more

Great place for breakfast or lunch!! 5 of us had breakfast here this morning. What a great place! If you have to wait like we did, it's worth it! Mom had the bacon and eggs (1/2 order) which was only 1/3 because it came with just one egg. Everything else was full order servings. My lovely wife had a Chefs Salad. She loved this a lot! Beautiful daughter had the 1/2 tuna sandwich with both soup and salad. She loved it all! Son had the Mexican or taco omelet. Ground taco beef, onions, peppers and olives with cheese. He loved it! This is an absolutely fantastic breakfast spot. The new digs on Monroe are so much more accessible than their old spot. Food and service haven't changed at all, right at the top of their game all around. Coffee always stays topped off, too. While their prices do run a bit higher than the national chains I find it to still be a great value. If I had one beef with the place is this (stars for attention): ***UP YOUR CFS GAME*** I'm a huge fan of chicken fried steak and the patty that they use is just sub par. Updating the review.... We still love this place and go here often. The food is always good, prices are reasonable and the staff is super nice. Today I had the patty melt for the first time and it was tasty. I love Pountine and they are always happy to add cheese and gravy to my fries. My granddaughter eats a good portion of them herself... Love this place! Waiter/ waitress are all so happy and welcoming! It's a plus these days. I have not had one thing on their breakfast menu that isn't great! My favorite is their cinnamon roll French toast it is literally the Bomb! We have come for breakfast only and it's our go to! Only suggestion is they need to clean up outside the windows in the flowerbeds. It makes the place look dumpy from the outside and in the booths looks ugly when they have big windows to look out. read more

Well made diner food (of course), and the staff was all fresh-faced, smiling, kiddos taking care of a busy dining area on a mid-week lunch. We've yet to have a bad experience at Kalico, going back to when they were on Division. First and foremost are the hash browns. The best in town now that Knights Diner has new owners. Then there's the fresh squeezed orange juice mimosas! The service is alway friendly and energetic. There's usually a wait to be seated but they move along crisply. My fave is the country benedict, but their Belgian Waffles are top notch as well. read more

Nice! First time in, but my partner-in-crime had been in the old location and he loved it. The building is an old Shari's, which isn't a bad thing . . . lots of room and seating, very good benches for a guy with a bad back. I asked for hot tea, a waffle and side of Hash Browns . . . she asks, "Do you want onions, peppers and (something else) on your potatoes; I've forgotten the last item, 'cause onions and peppers sounded really good! Yes, Please. Everything was excellent . . . potatoes were great and lots of peppers and onions, and the waffle was perfect both in flavor and texture. Went here for lunch since it's not too far from my work. I was impressed by the decor of the restaurant and the improvements from the previous owners. The food however was a different story. I ordered a giant breakfast burrito because it was sounding pretty tasty but there was nothing "giant" about it. The server was friendly and attentive and she even said it was smaller than they normally are. I could have went across the street and gotten 2 breakfast burritos from McDonalds and paid about half as much for the same burrito. I saw the overall rating is 4.5 stars, but I just can't see it. Whether it not I will try this place again is to be determined. read more

This is a consistently good diner spot. While I usually get eggs Benedict (great hollandaise) I was in a potato mood and went with the Farmers plate. The home fries were perfectly crispy and the ham, peppers, and onions were nicely seared and made a delightful bite. The gravy and scrambled eggs were exactly as they should be, and my English muffin was buttered by someone who clearly knows what their customers are after. The half size was perfect for me but I've been craving it ever since and am missing leftovers Do yourself a favor and get the orange juice. It's the best I've ever had in a restaurant!! The Kalico kitchen is a cool little stop for breakfast. It is not a very big restaurant but it has a nice warm cozy feeling. You can tell by the Decour that they are huge Gonzaga University fans. Now as for the meal I had biscuits and gravy he eggs over easy and bacon. The bacon and eggs were fine the biscuits and gravy The biscuits were actually really good they were fluffy not overly cooked or too dry. The gravy on the other hand lacked flavor there was a couple chunks of what I thought should be sausage but couldn't really tell. I think if they would actually add a little bit more sausage and some seasoning to the gravy they would have a huge hit. Overall it was a decent breakfast the service was great they were very friendly and hospitable my coffee cup was always full. I would definitely recommend this as a stop for breakfast. read more

Cute, intimate breakfast spot. From the moment we stepped in, we were made to feel like family. We were welcomed in and immediately given coffee to help warm us up on a chilly fall day. Of course, I was compelled to order the corned beef hash and eggs. Unfortunately, the hash looked like it was from a can. It didn't taste bad, but I like to see actual corned beef chunks in my hash. I was hungry and it was good. My companion ordered the veggie john with no cheese. It was yummy mix of mushrooms, olives and peppers with eggs and potatoes. The breakfast items were simple and the food was food. Spokane seems to be a big breakfast place with many different options to choose from. This is a decent choice, although there are some better places in the city. I didn't get the orange juice, but really enjoyed watching the vintage orange juicing machine in action. read more

This place is an example of a hometown diner with serious care for their community. They have a chip on their shoulders to be the best. The dining room is spotless and well managed. The food is delicious, quick, served by happy waitresses who help each other, and wait for it.... all for a good price. The American dream in reality! They seem to favor a local college team nicknamed the "Zags." Gonzaga's sports decorations makes up a cool eclectic looking decor. Anyhow, the chip on the shoulders pays off! I want to fly back to Spokane just to have more of those righteous French Toasts with the Denver Omelette. That type of deliciousness is what 5-stars are for.
