And certainly no beef with the wonderful Sushi I had at Kani's! 3 doors down from my hotel was an appealing Steakhouse and Sushi restaurant showing up on my Yelp app. I started walking. I found a seat at the Sushi bar and looked over the offerings. Lots of sushi, sashimi, Combo dinners and 2 pages of specialty rolls to choose from here. I ordered a Large Sake but had to send it back...nothing wrong, just Large translates to 20 oz., I exchanged it for a 12 oz pour. I started with a salad, Shrimp, avacado, cukes and mixed greens in sweet rice wine vinegar. 4 Sweet shrimp and 1/2 of a Haas avacado with plenty of cucumbers sliced atop the mixed greens was an excellent starter. My sushi choices were Saba, Anago, surf clam and Saba. All served fresh and fast! The sushi chefs constantly ensuring you are enjoying and in need of anything. We took my son out for his graduation. We got there 15 minutes before Hibachi closed. We were treated so rudely and everyone had an attitude. If we have known we wouldn't have came here. They lady at the front that was seating us was the rudest. We have been coming here for years. Now it's questionable. The score is 86 B when we use to come it was an A. The food was ok nutting like it use to be. Sorry to say I would not be back. It was a party of 8 and they treated us like we didn't exist. read more

Wanted have lunch and got sat down (10 minute wait) to only watch other people get seating ahead of me. Went to speak to the hostess and instead of trying to apologize or explain she said "yea I didn't know and I was in the back". Left the place unhappy but called to speak to the manager and she tried to put her friend on the phone. When I asked her if she was the manager, she said she wasn't and he was busy. Twas the Friday after Thanksgiving, and I had a house full of family members who didn't want to eat leftovers. So, we all went to Kani House for a fun dining experience. Their motto is "Finding food fun again and again,". We were ready for fun. I called ahead for seating at a Hibachi table. Although some of my family members arrived more than 30 minutes late, we were still seated as soon as everyone arrived. My cousin and aunts immediately started taking photos with the cardboard cutouts near the front entrance. (That makes for a good use of time while waiting for the rest of your group.) All nine of us sat at the same table. Our cook, Maru, was excellent. (The cook really determines how exciting the meal can be.) We had a lively cook. He was very entertaining and really engaging. This was my aunt's first Hibachi dining adventure. He made it memorable. From juggling eggs, to creating an onion train and hearts with fried rice, the experience was a lot of fun. Watching my family enjoy themselves was super entertaining. The food was great, and served hot straight from the grill. I ordered the Kani special which includes: Steak, Chicken, and Shrimp along with soup, salad (with ginger dressing), appetizer, fried rice, and sherbet. My meal was very filling. My favorite thing was eating at the Hibachi Grill was the cooking presentation. I will absolutely recommend this restaurant! Their interior decoration is very stylish and modern. They have a fancy bar and a huge food menu to discover. If you're not a regular here, you might find it a bit overwhelming to decide. Service was friendly but slow for a week day. It would be a great place to enjoy your date when you were not in a rush. However food tastes amazing, fresh and full of flavor. So many healthy options here, you can customize your roll with either brown or white rice, and any other ingredients that you like. They're generous with portion as well. So, I'm going to break this down and give stars based on different parts of our experience. I should tell you that we have been coming here for YEARS, and we were afraid of a night like tonight; this place has been going downhill for some time now. Here we go: Service: 1 star The waitress took our drink orders, took our food orders when she brought the drinks, and then disappeared for over 10 minutes. Brought all of the soup and salad at the same time, and then NEVER came back. Seriously, not once did she come back to check on our meal, refill drinks, or bus the table...she actually had two other servers bus and refill. Chef experience: 1 star When he got to the table, I think he made some sort of judgement about our table, but he tossed his utensils two-three times, then went straight to cooking. No tricks. No personality. No pride in what he was doing because the food, well, I'll get there...he finally "perked" up while he was cleaning, but too late in my opinion. Food: 2 stars for the soup and salad Everything else was blind because our chef didn't care and rushed through everything. Even the yum-yum sauce was separated...ill post pic soon. Overall service: 3 stars there are other places that are worth the drive to go to. In addition to lack of service, showmanship, and food quality, we were stuck on the long side behind the chef-couldn't see anything. We were also given a broke tea cup, which thankfully was caught before hot tea was poured all over us. Kani House is great! I come here anytime I'm in the area for a day of shopping. Today we sat at the sushi bar, which was nice and quiet. The host and hostess who helped seat us were both young, upbeat, and friendly. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. The sushi chef was wonderful. He welcomed us with a smile and immediately started our sushi rolls as soon as we ordered. I LOVE the selection of vegetarian sushi rolls that Kani House offers. I've been to so many restaurants that only have boring veggie rolls, like cucumber or cream cheese rolls. While those are both good, they get a little old after a while. I ordered the spicy tofu roll and a fried asparagus roll. It's always more exciting to sit right at the sushi bar and watch the chef make your food in real time! He really took his time and the rolls came out beautiful. And more importantly, they were delicious! The tofu roll was amazing, and the spicy sauce on top was sooo good. The fried asparagus roll was one I'd never had before. I'm not a huge fan of asparagus to begin with, so frying definitely added to the flavor ;) Overall, I would recommend Kani House to anyone who enjoys asian cuisine, especially yummy sushi! read more

Worse.Experience.Ever My wife and I visited Kani House in Buford on 5/10/23 to celebrate her birthday. After waiting thirty minutes, we were finally seated. Shortly after, the server came to take our drink and appetizer orders. While waiting for our appetizers and drinks, we noticed two groups being seated in different sections. Between the time we were served our drinks and the time our chef came to the grill, BOTH groups were already served their drinks, and the chef was already cooking their food. At this point, we had waited over an HOUR at the table. I walked up front to request to speak to the manager. At that time, he was busy, but the host said he would send him over shortly. A few minutes later, the manager, who identified himself as Tony Phin, came over. Less than a minute after he arrived, our cook also arrived. As I spoke to Tony and informed him of our experience with the wait, he seemed to care less about our concerns. He answered, " We are busy this evening, and your cook is now here." Then he began to walk off. I said, " Wait, just because the cook is here after an hour of us being seated doesn't make things right." At this point, I expected an apology, but I got the total opposite. His disposition completely changed. Tony then asks, " Have you ever managed a restaurant?" I told him yes, but what does that have to do with anything? At this point, Tony becomes COMPLETELY dismissive, rude, and disrespectful. Out of respect for the other patrons, I asked him to step into the lobby so we could speak. I told him I didn't appreciate how he handled this situation. As a leader in my community, company, and church, I am well-versed in leadership and conflict resolution. As I spoke to him about leadership and what he should do, he became even more irritated. I explained to him that when a guest feels that his establishment has missed a customer's expectations, the first thing he should do is apologize." Of course, I thought he would take this opportunity to apologize and de-escalate the issue. He said, " Oh, so do you think the customer is always right?". I replied, " No, I do not, but in this instance, I am right."  Tony furthers the conversation with gaslighting comments, such as " You can call HQ; here is their phone number," and " I don't care if you go grab another guess as a witness, what are they going to do?". I asked another gentleman from the table to come with me to talk to Tony. He comes over, and Tony becomes more belligerent, dismissive, and disrespectful, so much so that the other gentleman walks out of the restaurant to get some air. If it weren't for the fact that 1) it was my wife's birthday, and she chose Kani House for a celebratory dinner, and 2) we waited over an hour and a half to eat, we would have left. But because the chef was nice and apologized for the experience, we decided to stay. Tony never returned to our table to speak with the other guest. His guilt was apparent, and his pride was fully displayed that evening. There is absolutely no excuse for his actions--none! Tony Phin is undoubtedly underdeveloped as a leader and should not be in a position of authority. He set a horrible example for the staff member who witnessed his antics, and by the looks on their faces, they were not stunned, shocked, or surprised. His gross lack of respect for me and the other nine guests was appalling. The most disturbing aspect is that Tony Phin represents Kani House as an organization. I hope this is not a cultural issue, where "leaders" feel entitled and safe enough to speak to employees in a derogatory manner, because if he is comfortable enough to speak to a frequently paying customer in that manner, then I can only imagine what the staff has endured.   Although his conduct does not warrant removal from the company, he must be reprimanded. As a leader, he is held to a higher standard. I strongly suggest extensive leadership and emotional intelligence training if he is to remain in a leadership role. As for us, neither I nor my extended family intend to visit any Kani House restaurants again. read more

This Georgia-only hibachi / sushi deal is a pretty standard stop for me when I am in the area visiting my girlfriend's parents. Since their house is a solid 2 hours (and change) north of baggage claim at ATL, Kani House is a nice middle of the road pit stop for lunch, dinner, or an in-between meal to be named later. In the never-ending debate on hibachi vs. table service...I actually prefer table service. Hibachi is fun to watch, but all that oil they use making the onion blow up and light up various shapes on the flat top inevitably ends up in the food, and then remains in my stomach hours later as a giant lump. However, the table service, anti-frills no-fun hibachi is decidedly void of all that extra oil. Besides that, they make a mean fried rice, and I usually go with the shrimp and chicken, but their steak (fillet) is very good too. Other staples - miso soup is decent, and the salad with ginger dressing is a little creamier than what I am used to - I assume this makes it worse for me (I am a calorie monster), but it is very, very tasty. If I'm in the mood for sushi (which I am most of the time) - there are a lot of rolls to choose from. Pretty much all the standard raw ones, but the majority of the specialty rolls are fried and sauced in some way, which I am generally not a fan of. The menu is void of riceless options; I usually like to supplement my sushi selections with a cucumber wrapped roll - much easier to come by back in the Northeast. The only roll i've had that I wouldn't recommend is the yellowtail scallion; it is laced with wasabi and it tastes like a big burning mess of fire. The quality of sashimi varies but is extremely well priced for the quantity (stress: quantity) you get. I remember a few times going in and getting giant slices of yellowtail with those deep, fresh colors you look for in very fresh fish (this was actually at their Dawsonville location,) and other times getting something that was almost white and was probably frozen for some extended period of time. Tonight was the latter, with disproportionate slices (two big, three small, one that looked like a cube) and color that was somewhere in the middle of white and fresh. On the service side, the waitstaff have been consistently excellent. My girlfriend's mom is allergic to soy, and they are always happy to prepare her hibachi separately so she doesn't have a reaction - definitely something we appreciate. read more

We visit this Kani House a couple of times a month, and always sit at the sushi bar. The chefs greet us warmly, and provide lots of extras and free samples. The other waitstaff has consistently been friendly and attentive. We have NEVER had a bad experience here, and are surprised at all the negative reviews. Granted, we don't do the Hibachi thing, which is just not our style. But if you want decent sushi and reasonable prices, try Kani House. read more

For years, whenever I'm in town, I take my sister here for table service for sushi and a bento box, or with friends, I sit at the hibachi. Service is always great, no matter how busy they are or not. The hibachi chefs are all very entertaining and it shows that they enjoy what they do. The food is always delicious and always PLENTY of it; so much so, that I always walk away with a to-go box. They have a huuuge sushi menu, so you're bound to argue with yourself, trying to narrow down the few you want to select. Or at least I do. :) Prices are comparable to every other Japanese sushi and steakhouse, but I wish it wasn't so high, since they don't have much competition around except for another chain place. read more

When you have hibachi your in there for a least 1.5 from sit down til leaving so plan on waiting at least 1 hour to be seated when you go in on a Saturday night. We waited about 30 minutes because they seated the 2 of us with a large party. For me a bonus at any restaurant is when they serve Pepsi and not Coke. So I was happy to see Pepsi products. The miso soup was a little salty but it was good. Salad was just a plain salad with yummy ginger dressing. (They offered ranch dressing and I was a little offended bcuz who goes for hibachi and gets ranch??? Lol) I was a little taken back when our hibachi chef was not Asian. He was a nice guy and engaged with the table. The hibachi show started and he threw a huge mound of rice on the grill table and added eggs and veggies and there were large chunks of garlic butter in the rice (yummy) he plated the rice to everyone and we all got a very generous portion. Next came the veggies and he added his seasonings and let them sit on the grill to cook while he made the meat. I got chicken and my husband got two types of beef. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and they have this orange yum yum sauce (I think that's the name) that goes good with the meat. Next veggies were served and they too were perfectly seasoned. Now here is the twist.... I got a side of noodles because where I use to live they always did noodles with hibachi but apparently at Kani that's not a thing. The noodles looked like soggy over cooked spaghetti. The chef tried to add some seasoning to it but again they were soggy spaghetti and not much can save that. For desert we got a scoop of ice cream or sherbet. Which I was not expecting nor did I have much room for. All in all I would say it was a good meal. I know that to go order is not going to be quite as good as eating in the restaurant but...after waiting 40 minutes, an order of soup was missing and the soup we did get was wrong, the rice we did get was hard and crunchy,and the fried rice I paid extra for was missing. The chicken was cooked to death and could have been used for pebbles in the driveway, and the salmon was black - I am guessing it was cooked a little too much. We felt super rushed to order and once the cook came he did not know what he was doing. The rice was good but everything else was awful! The shrimp and scallops were severely over cooked. I ordered steak and shrimp and the steak was tough. I asked my husband and brother in law about their steak, they said it was tough. We were charged additional for fried rice. We all had fried rice. ?. The veggies were drenched in soy sauce so all we could taste is salt, salt, salt. To top it all off, towards the end of the meal my sister in law said her stomach was beginning to hurt. We sat down for dinner at 5pm. I came here for lunch. I love bringing people who've never been to hibachi because Kani house puts on a good show for really reasonable price during lunch. Kids love this place. I think if you come for birthday they take a picture for you and give it to you in a frame. Lunch is around $10 per person. I used to think their portions were small but I went two days ago and I had leftovers. For a vegetable hibachi $8 plus fried rice $1.5, you get a lot of food. I loveeee their soup that comes with little mushrooms floating. And their orange mayo sauce is prolly what makes their entire hibachi game strong. Salad is ok, too much dressing always. I must say tho, afterkani house, you feel bloated because of all the salt. My husband and I stopped in about 45. inures before closing. They told us it would be about a 10 minute wait and we waited 20 minutes. 35 minutes later (almost closing time) there is no chef, or food, or server in sight. my Husband ran out of drink and I was waiting to try and order soy beans. When the chef came out he did not know which food went to which person. My husband ordered double rice and double veggies and th4 chef did not portion out his seizes on the rice to give my husband double and when my husband asked for his second serving of vegetables the chef said "if there are extra" then we informed him that he got double. The lady beside us ordered her steak well done and when the steaks were done she asked if she can have hers medium rare. he then cut up my husbands steak and gave it to her and gave my husband the overdone steak. he ran out of butter for the shrimp and they were burnt. did not see our server still , we will. it be returning, and I've been coming here for years read more
