I give one star because of the good service and cook. However as for the quality of meat and manager, Hee's customer service gets a zero. She told me that I should have basically made a scene, because I told the manager and server about the meat and filled out a comment card. Didn't hear from anyone so I called three days later and she said why did I wait three days to call. If you want chicken with the tenderloin in your chicken then you will be fine. For the money you pay it should be better quality meat. Hee said she looked at the camera and saw that I took the food home which I did but didn't eat the gross meat. I took it for the veggies and rice and so I could have proof of the meat. I don't recommend this location at all. I made a phone order for ginger sauce and fried rice for pick up. When I arrived home they had given me the wrong sauce, it was yum yum sauce. I called and requested to speak to the manager requesting a credit upon my next trip since we order from here at least one a week. When the manager got on the phone she told me that I requested yum yum sauce, I clarified with her and told her I requested ginger sauce, they provide yum yum sauce in every order. She then insisted I come in on one of her days off to get the sauce, instead of providing me with a credit. I told her I just need a credit I shouldn't have to come in on her day that she has a shift. She then disconnected the call before I could finish talking. It's unfortunate that a manager handled it in the way she did, especially during a COVID pandemic, business is hard to come by. We obviously won't be back. read more

Stopped here for dinner after doing some shopping at the mall. This restaurant is conveniently next door. The place wasn't busy on a Friday night but that just may be because of c-virus hype. The menu is quite extensive and one thing they have is 5 (!) different rice options. That alone would make me want to come back! They also have a full bar. I tried their version of Long Island and it was decent. I tried Ladybug roll with black rice, ikura, and chicken yakitori. All were delicious. Overall: full bar, decent atmosphere, good service, tons of healthy rice options. I would definitely come back if in the area. read more

For side of the dressing we had to wait 15 mins and even had to ask to serve hot sauce. No major show either. It was quick and done. The grilled veggies were raw. Fried rice was good though. I ordered fried rice with soup and salad from the Mall of Georgia Kani House, this last Tuesday. It was delicious! The portions were generous, yum yum sauce was yummy over the fried rice. Kani House is the only hibachi restaurant that offers a spicy pepper paste for meats and vegetables. I highly recommend trying this sauce, it enhances their entrees quite nicely! Everyone was courteous and friendly, offering a seat as I waited for my to go food. I enjoyed watching the precision of the sushi chef as he created beautiful plates of rolls and sashimi. Never got to eat. Came here for my kid's 8th birthday. He was looking forward to it with bated breath. As a family, we completely understand there is a lack of help in the service industry right now, and we were in a hibachi restaurant which requires a full table get the service going. When they said 30-45 min on a Monday, we were like "For the kiddo, we shall wait, no worries! He reaallllly wants this"........50 min later, I asked if they were going to have a table, because people were coming in after us and leaving when they were told 25-30 min......I was then told it was going to be another 30 min. My problem is not so much the wait, it was that they should have been up front in the first place. Tell me 45, but please let me know that is a best case scenario and I might be waiting for 1 1/2-2 hours. You saw us standing there. We were the only people standing in the room not 5 feet away from you. Tell me you're short staffed and care about my time as a customer. I'll gladly come back another time. Don't sit at the first booth next to the host stand with 3 other employees chatting and drinking beverages while there are paying customers waiting in eyesight for almost an hour. Super bad optics (no offense, but any kind of place for employees to hang in their downtime shouldn't be in front of the waiting room). Heck of a way to celebrate a kid's birthday. Poor little dude cried on the way out. Totally could have been avoided with a little honesty and communication. read more

Friendly service and awesome chefs - went here with bio-dad to catch up after a long time and it was a great experience, he and I both loved it (even though we have very different taste this was a perfect compromise). They were actually short staffed so the general mgr was actually our hibachi chef... at first I thought maybe we got the extra special treatment at our table but it looked like the other tables and chefs were all really having an excellent experience too... delicious food, engaging banter with the chef while he cooks and does fun stuff with food (spoiler alert: be ready to catch a lil bit of rice in your mouth - our guy had Ace aim so it was a cinch for me)... an overall wonderful experience. 10/10 would recommend :) read more

It's hard to get my two daughters to agree on a restaurant that they both want to go to at the same time. So when they both wanted hibachi, I was excited as I also love it. They sat us down with two other "families " and began the ordering process. There was nothing notable about this and it went through pretty smoothly. The best part was the chef that cooked for us. He was far from your "conventional" hibachi chef in most of his grilling methods which seemed concerning at first. However, everything that he did to the food was a great take on the traditional version and actually made it awesome! He clearly enjoyed cooking and was excited to share his creations with us. He was very funny and friendly as well and the combination worked perfectly. I only wish that I could remember his name so that I could mention it here. So I didn't want to give it a one, since I didn't eat. The wife and I did t remember ever eating at this lo action even though we have lived in the are more than 20 years. We went fir sushi. Another restaurant was closed on Sunday so we decided to try Kani House. The sushi bar was open even though there was a 45 minute wait for regular seating. Great! We thought. We sat at the bar, a very nice waitress took our drink order while we looked at the sushi menu. This is when we noticed one of the sushi chefs leave the prep area with gloves on, and go and help someone at a register, pick up something else and return to the area. Then my wife noticed the other sushi chef with his mask partially down (ok) ... clearing his throat. Then he wiped his nose with the glove and keep making rolls. Hard NO for us...we left. read more

We went here after going to a sushi place a few doors down and not receiving any service in a reasonable amount of time. There was a bit of a wait so we sat at the Sushi bar. There wasn't much going on at the bar but the bartender was still not that attentive. But the Sushi chefs started interacting with us and giving us recommendations and getting us to try different ingredients and we really enjoyed and appreciated the experience. Daniel and Mr. Kim were fantastic representatives of the establishment and I will definitely take them up on their recommendations for future sushi orders! The food was also fantastic and the Flaming Dragon rolls were some of the best Sushi rolls I've ever had. Awesome portions on both the Sushi and non-sushi orders. The high note is the wait staff was lovely. But the food just wasn't mediocre. I love Japanese food but one time here was enough for me. I went to have the tuna tartare and it was okay but the marinade seemed light and there was a lot of lettuce in the bowl. The gyoza was okay but when the waitress told me it was fried, I was expecting pan fried not deep fried. Kind of ruins the dumpling in my opinion. We came here as a party of 11 last night. It was really nice and we didn't have to wait too long since we had a reservation. The service was great. Our chef knew it was someone's birthday and actually made the rice into a 25 for her birthday. The food was delicious and the portion sizes were decent. Between all 11 of us, we pretty much ordered every protein. I had the steak and shrimp and substituted the steamed rice for fried rice. You also get soup, salad, and ice cream with your meal. My meal in total with the added gratuity was $32, which I think was a good deal for what I ordered. We will definitely be back for future occasions! read more

You can find Kani House at 3208 Buford Drive, GA 30519 right across from one of the main Mall of Georgia entrances. It's fairly easy to find with the front facing Buford Drive. Parking is all around the building and there's usually plenty - you can overflow to either side in adjoining lots. The exterior of the building has a terracotta-looking roof and exposted rafters to give it the appearance of a traditional Japanese building - a bit pagoda style but without the upward-turned corners. I've eaten a Kani a few times over the years but it's been a while Kani is a Japanese style restaurant that serves Hibachi (technically teppanyaki) style food cooked on a flat griddle (teppan) by flamboyant chefs, after the venerable Benihana. In reality Hibachi-style cooking is usually done over a small charcoal fire (like those little cast-iron grills that used to be available everywhere). I'm not sure who popularized the term "Hibachi" to mean this type of cooking but it's been a pet peeve of mine - they even call it a grill instead of a griddle - grrr. Kani also serves sushi with several specialty rolls and nigiri. Unlike many other teppanyaki restaurants, the tables are exposed to one another so you can see what's happening across the room (most of these style restaurants tend to divide up rooms to two sets of tables, where the chefs are back-to-back). here each table can hold about 10 people - I've been in other restaurants where the cooking surface is larger and 14-16 can be comfortably seated - I actually like the setup at Kani better as it doesn't feel as cramped. You order your drinks and meal from a short menu from the kimono-ed waitresses, who then serve you soup and a salad while you wait for your chef. You can also fill-out a sushi menu and enjoy an assortment of nigiri, rolls or sashimi. The soup is your basic chicken broth with some sliced button mush rooms and green onion. The salad is a typical iceberg lettuce chopped up and served with carrot slivers, purple cabbage and a very good ginger dressing. I also ordered some hot sake to shoot back as things got rolling. From the menu I would recommend anything listed under "Hibachi Grill" but especially the Kani House Specials. You receive a ton of food and it will be tasty - most of the specials are combinations and due to the way things are cooked it will keep food on your plate during the entire process, especially if you get shrimp, steak and chicken (or any combination of a seafood, beef and chicken). Tonight I ordered the Chef's Special withFilet Mignon, Shrimp and Scallops. This particular chef started things out with the fried rice - I typically don't do fried rice unless I cook it myself but the guy did give me a little taste - not bad here at all. As is typical, he "lit stuff up" with a bit of alcohol as is expected. The shrimp and scallops were delicious as expected - this is really one of the best ways to prepare seafood. The veggies came next - a mix of zuchinni, carrot, broccoli and cabbage tossed with sesame seed, oil and soy sauce - a very basic saute but oh-so-satisfying. My rare filet was also cooked perfectly. I also got to taste a spicy tuna roll that one of my dining companions ordered. Good but nothing special - I've had the sushi here on previous occasions and it's fair but not fantastic. The special meals all come with a choice of sorbet or ice cream - just enough to feel like you got your money's worth. By now My party is all present and we still waiting in the lobby. About seven minutes later the young guy party arrives and they are looking for him, where is he you ask? Food and service was overall good. However at the end of our meal the cook was cleaning the grill and splattered hot grease on me, staining my shirt and burning my arm. I have emailed and called to request a refund, but so far no follow through from Kani House-Buford. I didn't make a fuss before leaving because I didn't want to make the other family at the table feel uncomfortable, plus other than my arm stinging I didn't really see the amount of grease he got on me until I got home. read more

Rude and unprofessional reception and manager. We were expecting about 7 people in our party. After waiting an hour, we had 9 people. The hosts told us that we were "a problem" but seated us anyway. Just tell us to wait for another table, or accommodate us, but don't say that we're "a problem" and then seat us anyway. I will be contacting the owner. I have to say it's been a while since I've been back here but had to come back for a friend who wanted some sushi. I came on a Monday night this week and at 8:30 it was completely empty with plenty of staff but the place seemed to be a bit messy which was odd because it was not crowded. The floor was sticky and I ordered food to pick up which was several rolls but took over 35 minutes to make. Just seeing very few people when whey they have a really nice bar for sushi and a drinking bar, I really expected to see this place is packed. The sushi was pretty good as my friends ordered fried cali roll and spicy tuna ( simple rolls) but I'm more of a sashimi, rainbow rolI type of guy, but have to admit but for the atmosphere and price or value there must be something off. I didn't see into the hibachi trust this is catered more towards that- but it also wasn't full. I prefer a Niko Niko down the street for sushi and fee Kani house having been at the mall area now since it opened I don't feel is has kept repeat customers. The staff was very nice and helpful but there was a lot of dead time after I waited 15 minutes after calling in my order to go in and they just started on the order so I got a beer and waited. I finished my beer and sat and read the menus by myself with nobody else around and I just felt that this place needed an upgrade. It's been here a while but it's time to beef the place And get more clients. I will certainly come back with friends if this is where they want to go but if I'm out for sushi I have better choices in the area. read more
