We knew we wanted to have mission bbq for our post wedding lunch - the GM overheard us explaining to our cashier that we were choosing a few items to try before we placed a catering order. The GM gave us a few additional items to try! He definitely treated us well and we saw the great customer service. The catering order process was pretty straightforward - I appreciated the follow-ups and reminders. The day of pick up, all went well! We were missing the cornbread and buns, but they were very quick to deliver the missing items, and added in an extra dessert for the inconvenience. Ayanna was amazing. I went to order my food and I'm glad she was the one helping me through the process because she was super helpful and very friendly. I told her it was my first time and she helped me pick the best things on their menu. At the end she also gave me a vulture so the next time I go i can get a free sandwich. She also gave me a drink of the house which was great. Now the food was pretty good. I got the brisket and the ribs with a side of Mac and cheese. The brisket was alright, some parts of it we incredibly salty and some didn't have any flavor but because they had a bunch of different BBQ sauces on each table for you to use it helped. A few of us was recommended Mission BBQ since we wanted something different. This spot is located on Rockville Pike near other restaurants and has a private parking lot with lots of spaces. After looking over the menu which has plenty of options, we placed our order online which was fairly easy. GRILLED SHRIMP ($13.84) The size is just as i wished and grilled to perfection, this was sooooo good esp with the BBQ sauce. I'm glad they have seafood options instead of just meats. SALMON ($15) They give a decent size and it was cooked well, I just wished it was grilled like the shrimp. It have more baked that grilled in my opinion. If this had char marks with extra smoky flavor, it would be perfect for me plus with the BBQ sauce, chefs kiss. MAC N CHEESE ($3.39) Sadly, I was disappointed in the mac n cheese, it wasn't flavorful nor cheesy in how I expected. The presentation was beautiful but the taste didn't match expectations. Maybe using a different cheeses and/or sauce base and adding more seasoning might help. CORN ON THE COB & DRINK DEAL ($5.75) I haven't had corn in forever but this was good esp being grilled and buttery. I got 1/2 tea 1/2 lemonade and BABYYYYY this was perfect!!! This drink alone needed to be in a gallon container bc the way I wanted more was insane lol. CORNBREAD (FREE) It was a cute size, definitely perfect for the meal but if you can eat it all, you must have a big appetite because the food was beyond filing. I wish it came with butter and a honey drizzle. BBQ SAUCES (VARIETY) I love the sauces but my favorite is the HONEY HEAT, spicy with a touch of sweetness. I like how they give you as much as needed and perfect for finding what's fits your tastebuds. Customer Service was nice and accommodating especially after messing up part of our order. This location is very consistent. You order from the counter and pick up your food in what seems like a minute or two. Fries are cooked fresh. Very friendly staff. Food is good. Came for lunch today. I got the 2-item platter with two sides, as did my partner. Between the two of us, we got moist brisket, ribs and classic sausage. For sides, we got cole slaw, potato salad and baked beans. Each platter comes with a cornbread. Ok, so here goes. The sausage and ribs were delicious. The sides were delicious. The corn bread was delicious. And the moist brisket was . . . Brisket. It wasn't particularly moist and it tasted like what I would get if I bought a brisket at the grocery store and cooked it myself. It tasted like a piece of brisket. No smokiness, no sense of it being cooked for hours with any particular style or care. It's really disappointing. Like, I'm not getting that again. I watched as the kitchen sliced it and I could tell while watching that it was not particularly moist. The people working there were friendly and came by a couple of times to see how we were doing and to clear off the table when one of us was done. There are six sauces available and each is different, with varying degrees of spiciness and sweetness. Of the six, I preferred the Memphis Belle, Smoky Mountain and Tupelo Honey Heat. The sauces remind me of one other thing. To me (I lived 7 years in Texas outside of Houston), moist brisket should be outstanding on its own and shouldn't need sauce. But this brisket, being neither particularly moist (we both asked for moist) or unique, benefited from a liberal use of sauce. Unfortunately. I'd like to give the place a 3.5 because the brisket is so disappointing, but am rounding up for the friendly staff, the sausage and ribs were good, and the availability of 6 interesting and tasty bbq sauces. read more

The food The meat here is great, crispy and melts in your mouth. My favorite sauce was the Bay-B-Q. One thing though is I wish they toasted the bread on the sandwiches and gave them a little crisp. It was like straight from the bag to the platter. The menu was reasonably priced except for the wings which were dry and too overpriced for me. The Ambiance Don't know where to begin. Amazing vibes here. From the pictures on the walls to the military style barrel trash can and metal platters very cool. Makes me more patriotic every time I walk in. The place has a nice retro feel. WWII photos on the wall. Rustic decor. Friendly service. I had the turkey. Moist, tender and an assortment of sauces to dress it up. My sides were cole slaw, and greens. Both were properly done. My wife had lean brisket. It was tender despite being less fatty. It had those charred ends that brought added depth to the meat. I usually try to go to Mission BBQ at noon. Since it is a military-themed restaurant, they play the National anthem at that time. I like to stand up and place may hand over my heart. (I'm not kilowatt, but I know the tradition.) Being a retired bass player, I like to sing the bass line along with the band. I'm probably the only patron to do so. Now to the food. We love the ribs. I especially enjoy experimenting with the different sauce recipes. (have yet to try one that I didn't love.) My wife likes ordering other items that they sell, often the salmon, or the brisket. We've ordered food here many times over the years. It's generally good and employees are friendly. Our main complaint until recently has been the stinginess with the sauce. It's strange to order bbq and then be given such a tiny amount of sauce. Recently we ordered for Fathers Day and I was offered two tiny condiment containers of sauce for 2 pounds of meat. That's really not acceptable. Fortunately we had a bottle of grocery store sauce at home because each of those condiment cups served one person. My bigger issue on this visit is that we were definitely not given the amount of brisket and pulled pork we paid for. The containers were much lighter than a pound. I doubt they were weighed. We were very short of meat. We noticed for the catering pack they offer 2 pounds of meat for 5 people so that was our guide. What we received was only enough for 4 small portions. I skipped the meat because I didn't want my husband to be hungry on Fathers Day. For reference, when we have ordered their sandwiches individually we considered the portions more than adequate. Meh. Not terrible, but great BBQ this isn't. The ribs are overcooked, no bite to them. The chopped brisket sandwich is so smothered in a mandatory sauce that you can't taste the meat. The sides are okay, but nothing stands out. If nothing else, it's a painful reminder of how much I miss the long departed O'Brien's when it was not far up the road on Gude Drive. Had dinner with my Mom at Mission BBQ for the first time. This is the most patriotic restaurant I have ever been to and I LIVE for this!!!!! The ribs and cornbread were wonderful, the country music was amazing, the staff were fast and efficient, all the diners were clearly so happy to be there, and the decor was all related to military/police/fire & rescue and it was wonderful to see that kind of total respect for a change. If you have a desire to give back in any way to first responder orgs all over the U.S. (I do!) check out their website as all the orgs are listed and there are tons to pick from. My experience with service here has always been lovely. All the food was delicious. They gave me a big portion of barbeque pulled chicken in my sandwich. So I had to save most of my sides for later. Drove 3 min to get home, and the food was already cold. Moist Brisket - I wanted to give this a mission the benefit of the doubt because I've ordered this dish 4x, but now that they have struck out 4 out of 4, I have to say it. This moist brisket is terrible. It is dry with no fat, no tenderness. It cannot be described as moist. I lived in TX before, so I know what moist brisket should taste like. This is not it. Do not get this. Also too salty Ribs - These are ok, edible. Definitely the best meat that this mission location serves. But it was dry, cold, and overall just ok. Jalapeño cheese sausage - Also just ok, and cold. It's fine, but not particularly special. Collard greens - These are good but salty. Cole slaw and cornbread - These are the two best dishes on the menu. If you come here, these are the two things to get. I don't think other dishes are worth eating here. I wanted to like this mission bbq. Having lived in TX, I miss eating good bbq a couple times a week. But this store is not the solution. Recommendations to the manager: if you set a pickup time, try to pack the food as close to pickup time as possible. Your team packed my food at least 15 minutes early, and after a 3 minute drive home, the food was cold. Not even warm. Bbq doesn't taste good cold. And don't serve "moist" brisket that isn't moist. It's misleading and some people really don't want to eat lean brisket. Lastly, try make more effort not to overcook and dry out your meat, and take it easy on the salt.
