I went here when I visited Hawaii. Staff was amazing, chef was extremely nice and even took a picture for my family outside! I'm a server myself and I know my family is needy when it comes to service so thank you for accommodating all 11 of us around closing time! The food was AMAZING, not even kidding, I'm dreaming about the risotto dish I got. I'm gonna try to recreate it sometime soon. Located right behind the Greek restaurant Olive Tree Cafe by Kahala Mall. Recently six of us lifelong girl friends got together here for Brunch on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Here's what we ordered: Weekender Burger, Avocado Toast, Croque Wahine, I Got You Bae Sando, and two 'Shroom Melts, plus Da Kahala Shuffle (Mud Pie) for dessert. We left feeling very full but completely satisfied. EVERYTHING that we ordered, we would order again next time, but there is still a rich variety of menu items we look forward to trying. Each time I've dined here, chef and owner, Keaka Lee, has paid the table a visit to check on our experience. Started with the beef tartare and appetizer trio. We loved the beef tartare, bold flavors and quality beef. Mustard seeds added some acid, garlic chips a flavor punch and crunch, macadamia nuts giving it a textural balance. The app trio was beautifully plated. I got the pork chop as my entree. Super flavorful with tamarind in the sauce, tender and moist. Enjoyed the kimchee mung bean. Had a reservation for brunch when they opened this morning for a party of 4. Bottom line, 3 of the 4 of us were very disappointed. Servers tried their best so I have to assume the restaurant had an issue with help, possibly someone off sick. Hard to say. Waited quite a while for our breakfast, and 3 of the four dishes were cold and had to be sent back. The 4 th was not an egg dish and it was hot. The server was very apologetic but even when the egg dishes came back the eggs were still not hot. At this point we opted to eat them as is rather than try again. The food all tasted good, just not warm. Coffee was excellent although service was not as quick as I would like. In addition to the standard a la carte menu, Kapa Hale also offers a tasting menu. We fully expected to order off the standard menu and had a few things picked out, but then were given the tasting menu and totally changed our minds. The Autumn tasting menu is $65/person and also has a $25 wine pairing if you're interested in that. We felt like the starters were a bit weak. I didn't mind the carrot gazpacho as it was light and the most flavorful. However, I really did not care for the rangoon or the croquette. To be fair, I've never cared for rangoons and don't particularly like the fried wonton or cream cheese. It's just an artery clogger and only the sauce it was set upon added some flavor. The croquette was disappointing, especially because I'm a fan of poi. I thought it needed some spice and was borderline tempted to bust out one of my mini bottles of tasbaco (omg yes, I am that person... but it has saved me countless of times). The mains saved the day. My boyfriend got the catch of the day (marlin) and I opted for the mushroom pasta. The fish was light and cooked well. I also really like the yuzu potatoes and the mustard seeds it came with. My pasta hit the spot as well, except that it was a bit on the heavier side and I wasn't able to finish it. I requested it to go and happily snacked on it the next morning. For desserts, we had the choice between panna cotta and the mud pie. Neither of us like chocolate that much and were intrigued by the panna cotta. Typically we like to order different things so we can try more items, but in this case, I'd say the panna cotta was a clear winner. It was light and creamy, plus it had lilikoi in the dessert. The cinnamon apple streusel added a bit of texture to the otherwise smooth dessert and the flavors were all very complementary. I think the mud pie would have been much too heavy for us. Service was spot-on. They sometimes knew what I wanted before I even had to ask. We were also seated in front of the kitchen so we could see what was going on. When I was visiting Oahu, my cousin suggested this restaurant, and it was great!! There were 2 dogs with us, so we sat outdoors, and it was perfect. We saw such an amazing sunset during dinner. Our server, Steve, made us a delicious mango mai tai! He was such a friendly, informative guy. We opted for the tasting menu, and it was well worth it. Our appetizer was a trio of tomato gazpacho, curry samosa, and taro croquette. Each one was really delicious, and they had a nice kick to them :) It was hard trying to pick a favorite! For my main, I had the salmon which came with a green apple and cucumber dashi and yuzu potatoes. My salmon was cooked so well!! The skin was super crispy, too! The chef gave us a really delicious roasted cauliflower to go with our mains. For dessert, I had the matcha panna cotta with calamansi. We also got a kona Creme brûlée, which was soooo good!! When Kapa Hale opened in a location in Kahala where no other restaurant or bakery has survived, I had my doubts. However, after enjoying a delicious meal, I had my hopes that they would not only survive, but that they would thrive. I am happy to report that after several years, including the Covid shut down, Chef Keaka Lee continues to create delicious dishes, sometimes combining different ethnic cooking flavors & styles. His menus are constantly changing and he offers you a few new selections each time you dine there. His culinary training working in both New York's restaurants and with top local chefs, has developed his cooking style. He is one of my favorite Pacific cuisine chefs on Oahu. The services has always been great and their prices are reasonable. My dinner partner had not arrived yet but I wanted to order off the happy hour which is 5:00 to 6:00 PM. It's a small menu but I managed to find a few dishes that we could share. My husband found this restaurant from social media and made a surprise reservation for our family. (Side note: I had never heard of this place, so I didn't know what to expect.) We arrived on-time for our 6 p.m. reservation, walked in and waited a while before any worker acknowledged our presence (my husband dropped me off, had to park the car up the street as there was no parking in the lot and had to walk to the restaurant and still had not been acknowledged). When we finally were acknowledged, the individual sat us at our reserved table and told us that we could order happy hour, but had to do it right then and there as it was ending. We ended up ordering a couple glasses of wine and 2 dishes, one being the KFC and the other was a Poke-Doki. The happy hour dishes took awhile for to come out (half an hour to be exact); we ended up placing our dinner order before getting the happy hour dishes. The wait for the main food dishes was even longer than the wait for the happy hour dishes. By the time we got our main dishes, it was already an hour after we had been sat. Despite the service being significantly less than ideal, the food was good. Everyone was happy with the flavor of the food, but was not happy about the service. KFC was very moist and flavorful, not too salty either (which was nice); the You Chick'n Me Out was the highlight of the dishes, we were amazed on how grapes and chicken went so well together! My risotto was a bit on the spicy side, but I appreciated they allowed the order to have all shrimp versus scallops. After dinner, we sat around a bit. The waiter did not come around very often to check in on our table. By the time he came with the dessert menu my family had to get going as it was a school/work night. The waiter questioned where the rest of the party went, as we told my family to leave as my husband was covering the bill. After we finally got the bill, my husband and I were getting ready to leave, when a girl came up to us with a scoop of haupia and a candle, saying they knew it was a birthday celebration, so my husband and I just shoveled it down and left. The food was excellent, made with fresh ingredients, and it was great that you could see the kitchen where all of the magic happens! Service was phenomenal. I've heard a lot of great things about Kapa Hale but I was sure they were all just hyperbole. Turns out it's all true! We decided to try Kapa Hale out because we had some family visiting. When I made the reservations online I realized it was Restaurant Week! Now I know that Restaurant Week specials are supposed to be the best deals that showcase some of the restaurant's best offerings, but sometimes I think the specials might be a liiiitle overpriced. Well, not so here. For $69 you get a choice of appetizer, entree, and dessert. Because we had a party of 4, we were able to get one each of appetizers and an extra. There was a burrata salad, a kanpachi crudo, and a smoked marlin and kalo dip. Everything was phenomenal but the kanpachi was next level. Super fresh and very bright. For entrees, two of our party got the NY steak medium rare with sunchokes, one of us got the paella, and one of us got the funghi pasta. Empty plates all! (Not gonna lie, I was thrilled they brought back that funghi pasta for this special occasion!) For dessert, three of us got the Kahala shuffle, which is a kind of mud pie topped with kahlua whipped cream and one of us got the pumpkin brûlée. The pumpkin brûlée was topped with pickled cranberry, which initially seemed like it would be a miss but was actually perfect. That little bit of tart provided a perfect foil to the brûlée, allowing you to really enjoy that densely sweet of the caramelized top by providing that juxtaposition. We ran into a friend there who gifted us a haupia sorbet (topped with toasted coconut) and a strawberry guri guri (topped with a bit of mint). While both were delicious the haupia was literally mind blowing. It tasted like you were biting right into a piece of haupia! (Thank you so much, Trina!) Chef came by after our meal and asked us to name our favorites and we were so speechless we could not articulate any of what I just wrote - alas! But I hope he knows now that we truly loved every bite and hope to return soon! This place is located right on the corner of Kīlauea and Pahoa (though you have to enter from the Kilauea side) next to Subway. If you can't find parking in the tiny lot, you can probably find street parking or park at the mall. I'm here to tell you that every bite you eat here will be worth the calories AND the money. The staff is wonderful, the service spot on, and well, we couldn't have asked for a better experience. This was our second or third visit to Kapa Hale, I had to wait for brunch because they open at 9am and I get up when the birds do. The place is super cute and they take their time making sure you have a good dining experience. On this visit I ordered the chicken and waffle, the portion was great. I had enough chicken that it covered the entire waffle. the waffle was buttered and sauced that I did not have to add anything sweet. My companion loves egg Benedict, she ordered the Kalua Pig Benedict, I had a taste and it was good. Kapa Hale is tucked in the back behind McDonalds and is in the same complex as the greek restaurant. The entrance is next to the stairwell past Subway. Lots of parking but could be a little tight. I can see the parking lot being busier at night with both restaurants being open at the same time. It wasn't too bad in the daytime since most people are going in and out. What i like most about this place is that they're dog friendly (hahaha). The service all around was exceptional tho. I tried the smoked marlin dip (16) and Shrimp pasta ($25). I actually had to choose something that wasnt very hard to eat since i had a dentist appointment prior. For our last meal on Oahu we chose Kapa Hale and we were very glad we did! While the location is in an unexpected corner of a small strip mall near Kahala mall, the interior is well laid out with a view from one part of the restaurant to the open kitchen where you can see the chef at work. We both opted for the tasting menu which is such a great bargain, my husband added the wine pairings and he was very pleased with that. We enjoyed our vegetable trio of mango gazpacho (delicious but also a bit like having a mango smoothie), arancini, and croquette. My husband opted for the fish and I had the shroom tagliatelle, both excellent. For dessert we tried both the bananas foster and da kahala shuffle (kahlua mud pie). They were both very good, but the kahlua mud pie was different from what I was expecting - it was more dense and rich than what I had in mind (coffee ice cream, cookie crust). I admit even though we had the tasting menu, I kept looking over at the table next to us and wondering if I should have ordered off the a la carte menu as the fried pork belly looked pretty awesome - we'll just have to go back! We did add on the "naan your business" which was super delicious - both the freshly grilled triangles of naan and the tikka masala curry dip. Yum! read more

Cute, little place in Kahala, easy to find and very convenient parking. My nephews and niece took me here for the first time and a late birthday celebration breakfast. The staff greeted us as we entered and immediately showed us to our cozy corner table. I immediately noticed and appreciated the island and artistic decor, I liked the concrete floor, table decor prividing a trendy style with island feel. We had an eclectic variety of menu selections from fantastic drinks, to vegan Loco moco and their original KFC, none of which disappointed anyone. The food was great, unanimously agreed!! Finally got to try here for a Christmas dinner with my friends. I was surprised they had reservations still available for a large party on the weekend only couple weeks out. When we got there, the restaurant was pretty empty but I saw a couple of food writers at another table. Half of my friends order the tasting menu and the other half ordered the strip loin along with appetizers but I knew I wanted to try the risotto even before we got there after looking at the menu prior. The risotto was perfectly cooked. I usually don't like to eat clams because they are usually chewy but tried them anyways and I was so glad I did because they were cooked perfectly and not chewy at all. I'd definitely recommend the risotto. When it came time to pay the bill we had 5 couples so we just asked the server if he could split it evenly and he did it with no problem. We started off with the corny bread. It was nicely toasted and served with sweet creamy butter. I had the seafood risotto and it was pretty good! The cream sauce was a tad too spicy but tasted good. My friend had the pork chop and seemed to enjoy it. For dessert, we tried the creme brulee. I wasn't too fond of the furikake on top but the creme brulee part was nice and not overly sweet. I noticed the other patrons, who seemed like regulars, order the loco moco. It looked more substantial than what I had ordered: the open -faced mushroom sandwich. Taste-wise was nothing special. Found this place during our last trip to Honolulu. We were looking to support a local restaurant away from the craziness of downtown Waikiki. We enjoyed our experience so much the first time that we returned a couple of years later. The atmosphere is cozy, casual, and friendly. There is a small parking lot, but you might miss the entrance like we did the first time while driving and like our Uber driver did the second time. Tip: Look at the Google map to know the landmarks and avoid having to go around again (Sharp Right right after McDonald's if you are on Kilauea Ave). The staff was friendly, and the chef even came by to say hi and check on us. Regarding the food, the cornbread with lilikoi & honey butter is super tasty. The octopus is delicious and beautifully presented. I usually only like about 10% of the octopus that I try, but this one was perfectly grilled and seasoned. The Brussels sprouts were crispy and had pickled cranberries and brown butter. The fried eggplant was okay. Our favorite main was the Koji Aged Beef - creamy mushroom sauce with long beans. We came here to celebrate our anniversary for dinner and we definitely did not regret it. Luckily for us, we have a couple friends who know all the good and hip spots and Kapa Hale was high on their list of recommendations. Fortunately, our wedding anniversary fell on a Tuesday making it that much easier to secure a reservation. Kapa Hale made it easy to reserve via the OpenTable app or calling in. You can find Kapa Hale close to Kahala Mall in a small-ish parking lot to the south. We, surprisingly, didn't have any issues finding parking but I could see it becoming an issue. For a Tuesday night, it was really busy. However, it wasn't too nosy nor too cramped. For food, we had some of the most amazing dishes I've had. 10/10 recommend and come give their chef's creations a try. Their venue was on the smaller side but we sat comfortably. BRUNCH REVIEW this time Personally, I liked brunch menu offerings even more than dinner! We needed a nice sitdown before running to a fashion show at Waialae Country Club, and this fit the bill. I immediately had to try their loco moco, and it did not disappoint: rich beef with nice sear that had super savory flavor with complimentary gravy. My wife was torn between green eggs & "ham" vs eggs benedict. So she got the Weekender burger. It was massive not even counting the omelette in it! and super good. But the pièce de résistance was the mango pancakes special - buttermilk fluffy pancakes topped with fresh chunks of mango and sugary sprinked sugar stuff and fresh whipped cream. It was like eating dessert! totally decadent It took awhile for the food to arrive, but we were content waiting (I had given us plenty of extra time before fashion show) and having plenty of coffee refills. Waitstaff very friendly. We need to go back and try other selections. and pancakes for the whole table! read more
