We dined here and were very impressed with the entire experience - one of my kids has listed this as their favorite place. The ambiance was very nice with a very friendly pianist playing most of the evening. Staff was extremely friendly and accommodating with ensuring we had food available fairly quickly for our toddlers. All of the food and drinks were wonderful. The French onion soup was VERY good. The ravioli was phenomenal. We definitely recommend coming here for a nice meal with fresh ingredients.

Atmosphere: 5*, Food: 5*, Service: 5+* My son chose Merriman's to celebrate his completion of his Masters degree. Despite all the glass windows, it's not noisy at all so it's a very relaxing vibe. We enjoyed everything we ate, including the dessert. When you go, we hope that Jordan is your server as she is exceptionally sweet and friendly. Alex, the manager, asked about our special occasion when we entered, so Jordan knew why we were there when she approached our table. She even provided a special ice cream dessert for our son. Service is truly top-notch here. We'll definitely be back.

We had the most awesomest service by Sabrina for dinner. We were there to celebrate a friend's birthday and she started it off by complimentary champagne! Her service was exceptional throughout the evening! Thank you , Sabrina! Have fun in medical school!

We came here for Lunch happened to be happy hour, so we decided to order from the happy hour menu. The smash burger was very good. I find it a little salty.. The kalua pig quesadilla came with a little bit of kimchi, which was very good. My favorite is fish and chips. That was delicious. Our bar ender /waitress Jackie. She was so attentive and friendly. . She made our day

Located in Ward Village at the southern end of Kaka'ako district. There's tons of free parking in the various garages they have We came specifically to try their Happy Hour menu and we were not disappointed. Large open airy seating area with plenty of staff running around to serve you. The happy hour cocktails a bit small but still satisfyingly refreshing. The food was great, we ordered... Cocktails, Mai Tai and Farm to Table Food... Taro Hummus Kalua pork quesadillas Fish tacos Fish and chips Everything was yummy and a good portion for Happy Hour item. Our waitress Ailee was cheerful and very attentive. She came by often to check on us. While other table staff came by often to clear the table and fill water glasses. They worked together well. Hostess could learn how to smile though :)

If you're even slightly familiar with the Hawai'i' culinary scene, then you know Peter Merriman is an icon. His original restaurant is a cozy little joint in Waimea on the big island that I love. This Honolulu location has a different, upscale city vibe, but still manages to bring the comfort of the original. Rest assured, it's a total knockout in every way! The menu is unique, local, inspiring, and downright delicious. The interior is charming and bright. Service is top tier. And that famous lilikoi foam mai tai will forever ruin all other mai tais for you. There is simply nothing to critique. To top it all off, they have a spectacular happy hour that runs until 5:30. They often feature live music on the patio too, which is lovely. Make sure to book a reservation - it's always busy. But if you can't get in, consider trying one of Merriman's other restaurants instead. Moku and Monkeypod are slightly more casual, but equally good. The menu at Merrimans is the best, but I actually prefer Monkeypod for the amazing ocean views. Moku is a nice alternative because there is rarely a crowd and it's easier to get to. They all feature similar menus and all serve the one and only mai tai.

Came here for brunch with the family and they did not disappoint. We asked for outside reservations so we could bring our dog and as soon as we were seated a server brought a bowl of water for the pup! Outside was hot but there was still a breeze. Everyone was happy with what they ordered. I had the chicken pot pie and it was packed with flavor! I also had the corn chowder (despite the weather) and I do not regret it! My boyfriend had the fish and chips and the fish and shrimp were very big pieces! The fries were also on point! We also had people order the smash burger, fish burger, and kalua pig benny (brunch special). Everything looked and tasted great! Service was good and parking is easy in the ward area. Overall very happy with food and service and will be back!

Well at this point, I'm on a first name basis with staff and the managers, even Mr. Merriman's son. Definitely my go to spot at Ward Village. Happy hour is well worth it. All the items on the menu are good. Ambiance is awesome. That live music starts right when happy hour ends - makes it worth your while to stay Keep it up!

It was my first time at merriman's for lunch service and it was good. We sat outside and it was a nice day but unfortunately the construction was a little distracting. Otherwise, the food was good and server was great. While I think merriman's is a reliable place to go to, it's not my first pick in the area.

    Happy Hour

Our Merriman's adventure kicked off right -- we slid in just in time for Happy Hour, which immediately set the tone for a winning evening. The table went full appetizer mode: Taro Hummus (fine, not life-changing), Salt and Pepper Fries (absolute perfection -- do not skip these), Kalua Pig Quesadilla (solid), and the Tako with Country Bread, which was so transcendently good that one member of our party said "forget the entrée, I'm having two of these" and just... did that. A bold move. A correct move. Drinks were mostly a delight -- the Pineapple Li Hing Mui Soda was a tasty little tropical adventure -- but the real surprise of the evening was someone else's root beer. A root beer. Somehow the best one any of us had ever tasted. We're still thinking about it. For mains, the Mac Nut Fish (Shutome/Swordfish) was a total knockout, the Cast Iron Chicken earned rave reviews, the grilled fish tacos held their own, and the smash burger was... respectable. Our waitress was an absolute gem -- attentive, warm, and the kind of server who makes you want to tip well and come back soon. Add in the lovely ambiance and solid Happy Hour deals, and Merriman's earns a hearty recommendation -- just make sure you book a reservation!

"We Mix It How You Like It" Tableside Poke

Merriman's located in Ward/Kaka'ako is an elevated Farm to Table restaurant, conveniently located near Whole Foods and Ward parking structures. I expressed that I always wanted to go with my friend, so she was kind enough to take me and make a reservation during the Happy Hour period so we could be thrifty too. Here were my impressions of everything I had this past weekend from most to least favorite: Lobster "Pot Pie" (5/5): For an entree that was $70, I hesitated because I didn't want to be disappointed with 2-3 morsels of lobster. But I was so glad I tried it because they were generous with lobster portions and it was the perfect pot pie crust. "We Mix It How You Like It" Tableside Poke (4.5/5): I was skeptical in how deep in flavor the poke would have when it wasn't premarinated in advance but it was just right. The avo and ono were both underrated ingredients that makes me want to make my own rendition at home. Parmesan Truffle Fries (3.5/5): The crisp to the fries were nice but I prefer my fries to also be more fluffy on the inside. Honorable Mentions (3/5): Roasted Beet & Hirabara Farms Fennel and Ginger Beer, not really much to add, wasn't overly impressed nor disappointed with these items. Overall, Merriman's was great. Nice place for a Friday night dinner.

Whoever get the cherry earrings she gotta go !!!! Even the customers besides us in HER section felt the same! Especially I am aware they pull tip there. So pilau to that server!!! But eh she said no rush because we celebrating when we JUST GOT THERE but it's clear you gotta flip tables !! You were the main one that told us to take our time and then for you to go and say to me and guest that we are yapping too much ! Stay consistent with the hospitality & service because we as customers have been also in the f&b industry and your service ain't IT !!!!!! We also kindly know the owners and amazing other staff that do a great job so for you to have a bad attitude like that just shows you ain't part of the team and Ohana See your way out with your cherry earrings ain't nothing cherry about your service sis and Is why you never got tipped. I understand it's a pull tip at this restaurant but she ain't it and won't ever be able to receive any good service back with that kind of mentality of feeling rushed in this business! Management will be contacted DO BETTER and UNDERSTAND ALOHA!!!!

$30 late night prime rib special. From 8pm on, Sunday-Thursdays only
    Judy G.

Came here last night after craving prime rib for the past week to try out Merrimen's new-ish late night prime rib $30 special and was not disappointed! The portion size was decent (keep it mind the deal is only valid from 8PM on, and they close at 9, so you want to eat fast.) It came with a few pieces of broccoli and mashed potatoes. I was super impressed because the place was packed! At 8pm, on a random Tuesday night. But I think this attests to how good and comfortable the food is. Will be back considering I live down the street! Yay.

I expected the restaurant to have a long wait time, but we got lucky. There was no wait and my family and I were seated right away. As soon as we sat down, we were served with cups of ice cold water perfect for the hot humid day. We ordered Menu B which came with Kalua Pig and Pipikaula Short ribs with your choice of sides which we chose rice. We also ordered another plate of the short ribs and added haupia and mac salad. I wish I got the server's name, she was so cool but she explained all the food and how to eat the side dishes. They served sliced onions with pink salt and that was delicious. The short ribs were thick, tender, savory and had the perfect amount of fat. The flavor was addicting. The kalua pig was really good, perfect amount of salt and smoke flavor. The mac salad really well with all the food we ordered and that alone was already good. The haupia for dessert was the best way to end the meal. Everything was just heaven. Parking was easy since it was during the week and early in the afternoon, but there is street parking. The restaurant was clean, all the workers were really nice, and very attentive from start to finish. My sister and I split the bill, so I paid my portion and added a tip. The person processing my payment told me they had refunded my tip because gratuity was already included. How awesome is that?! I'm sure many other restaurants wouldn't have mentioned it and would have just accepted the extra tip. That level of honesty and service is what keeps people coming back, and it's one of the many reasons I would highly recommend Helena's to my friends and family who haven't been there yet. I plan to visit Hawaii again before the holidays and I'm definitely going to be eating here again. Mahalo to everyone at Helena's!

I didn't expect much from this small corner diner, but everything turned out real solid! The exterior is especially entrancing, with its bright, rainbow neon sign that glows out the darkness of the night! The hooded interior was clean and followed well with the rainbow theme, especially with its rainbow pastel, title wallpaper. I would also like to compliment the workers, who were very nice and approachable! We ordered the loco moco plate, mixed plate, and saimin. Both plates were very filling and came in huge portions! The plates are for sure a top choice if you want a nice, hearty dinner! I especially enjoyed my loco moco! The saimin was less filling and came in an instant noodle cup. Still yet, it wasn't half bad--and it actually seems like a fairly good piece if you are on a diet or budget; it wasn't as expensive as the other dishes and only came out as 220 calories! I also want to note that they have a variety of tasty dessert pastries and icee treats if you are looking for a treat after your dinner. And we just can't go here anymore unless changes are made! We used to prefer them over Zippy's, but now they are less than 7-Eleven quality, while charging higher-end prices for the neighborhood. We have given them many chances, hoping it was just a fluke, but we have repeatedly been disappointed. Their chicken has become chewy and fatty, their rice is mediocre, and condiments such as mayonnaise are stripped down to the bare minimum quantity. Chile is poured so lightly that it is practically a minuscule amount. And their prices have continued to rise. I don't know if greedy people took over the restaurant who just don't care anymore, or what is going on. I remember when I used to take people here, and they would be impressed with the quality and quantity--plates just heaping with good cuts of meat, noodles, and rice. Those days are no more. As they say in Japan, the price performance is poor. Furthermore, their staff is rude. I can only imagine it was an owner working this day because it was a face I haven't seen that often. An older gentleman who appeared to be of Okinawan descent, working the cashier register, accosted us because I was privately discussing with my family about splitting different items with them. We were all ordering something, so he wasn't losing any money, but he told us about how prices are double in Waikīkī. First of all, it is rude to interrupt your customers that way. Secondly, we don't go to Waikīkī or care about Waikīkī. What happened to serving the locals? Third, Waikīkī has an assortment of restaurants, prices, and qualities, and they shouldn't be how you base your services. Lastly, I guarantee I could find a better deal in Waikīkī if I wanted to. Next time you're in the area, just go get a $6 bento or a $5 burrito from 7-Eleven next door. I assure you, the price performance and experience will be better. If Rainbow Drive-In is in the business of comparing themselves to other things, let's compare them to 7-Eleven and at least try to be better than them, right? I can get mochiko chicken from 7-Eleven for $6.99 that is similar in portion size and better quality. Meanwhile, they are serving their fatty, dry chicken for $16.75. Highway robbery! And they are not fancy, with their dirty picnic tables and plastic cutlery. They are just a step above a food truck, if that. Save yourself from the hype. They have gone downhill like a landslide. Go elsewhere.

We love this place--it's been a staple stop for us whenever we're on the islands. Waiaole Poi Factory is a real gem, with local decor and feel throughout the establishment. While they do have a parking, I suggest just parking on the street and walking up to the place. Signs clearly direct you to which window you can order food from and another for food pickup/dessert only ordering. We opted for combo plate (kalua pork and chicken long rice) w/ a side of poi. Both the kalua pork and chicken long rice were tasty but wished we had ordered rice instead so that i could mop up the delicious fat from the kalua pork! Loved the haupia pudding but wished they would give you a bit more. For dessert we ordered the tahitian sweet lady which was delicious! Wasn't a fan of the salmon lomi as it was pretty fishy for me. As we waited for our food, we noticed a dessert chilling on the ledge and joked with my wife that it was likely ours. Sure enough after 10 mins, the ice cream guy asked the cashier whose it was and at that time was our number called. Sadly, the ice cream had already started to melt. Wished they wouldn't have prepared the dessert until after our food was ready. Would definitely head back for their plate lunches and to try the sweet lady of waiahole dessert.

We ended grabbing the unagi musubi, shrimp egg musubi, and their poke. It is a super quick grab and go experience. Our total was 22.14, which I don't think is too bad. The flavors of the musubis are soooo good! Everything was made so deliciously and fresh. It could get a bit messy eating it though because of the sauce, so make sure to grab napkins! Overall, I was really happy to have stopped by here for some quick lunch!

There are 2-4 seats in this space, but you won't find anyone sitting at this cafe. Usually, it is grab and go. I was impressed with their various options. They have salmon musubi, tuna mayo musubi, and many more. My personal favorite is the chicken musubi, and I would usually buy it before I go off on a big adventure on the island or after my swim at Waikiki Beach. The staff here are kind, patient, and friendly. I wish I knew they had a stamp card because they actually do. I buy from them a lot. Along with musubi and sushi, you'll find that they sell trinkets, bags, and other souvenirs. Be sure to come by. They are handmade and fantastic!

The owner was very friendly and took the time to recommend dishes for us, including the laulau and lechon kawali. We also ordered the BBQ short ribs. Overall, it was a good experience trying Hawaiian food, but it's just not really our type of cuisine. The laulau was quite dry, and the preparation felt more like meat that had been boiled or cooked in liquid, which isn't something I usually enjoy. The lechon kawali had a crispy pork belly texture, topped with something similar to a salsa, but it didn't suit our taste either. Unfortunately, the cabbage served with it also had some black spots, which was off-putting. The BBQ short ribs were the highlight of the meal and the dish we enjoyed the most. We appreciate the experience and the hospitality, but the flavors just didn't quite match our personal preferences.

Either the owner or the manager seemed like a one man show. He was the server, bus boy, and chef. Husband got the pipikalua short ribs/he enjoyed. Sisters got the pork lau lau which came with sweet potato, rice or poi, lomi lomi salmon (more onion and tomato than salmon). i got the chicken lau lau, again stuffed with chicken, not enough taro leaves. The Haupia was smoky, so either burnt or something- inedible! Only six tables in the entire restaurant. The gentleman that was serving us I believe was also the bus boy, cook, server and cashier! Place is a hole in the wall with missing ceiling tiles and exposed panels above our table (gross!!). Sis loves this dive so we keep coming back!
