    Smashburger
    May W.

We came here for Lunch happened to be happy hour, so we decided to order from the happy hour menu. The smash burger was very good. I find it a little salty.. The kalua pig quesadilla came with a little bit of kimchi, which was very good. My favorite is fish and chips. That was delicious. Our bar ender /waitress Jackie. She was so attentive and friendly. . She made our day

Came here for brunch with the family and they did not disappoint. We asked for outside reservations so we could bring our dog and as soon as we were seated a server brought a bowl of water for the pup! Outside was hot but there was still a breeze. Everyone was happy with what they ordered. I had the chicken pot pie and it was packed with flavor! I also had the corn chowder (despite the weather) and I do not regret it! My boyfriend had the fish and chips and the fish and shrimp were very big pieces! The fries were also on point! We also had people order the smash burger, fish burger, and kalua pig benny (brunch special). Everything looked and tasted great! Service was good and parking is easy in the ward area. Overall very happy with food and service and will be back!

Located in Ward Village at the southern end of Kaka'ako district. There's tons of free parking in the various garages they have We came specifically to try their Happy Hour menu and we were not disappointed. Large open airy seating area with plenty of staff running around to serve you. The happy hour cocktails a bit small but still satisfyingly refreshing. The food was great, we ordered... Cocktails, Mai Tai and Farm to Table Food... Taro Hummus Kalua pork quesadillas Fish tacos Fish and chips Everything was yummy and a good portion for Happy Hour item. Our waitress Ailee was cheerful and very attentive. She came by often to check on us. While other table staff came by often to clear the table and fill water glasses. They worked together well. Hostess could learn how to smile though :)

Well at this point, I'm on a first name basis with staff and the managers, even Mr. Merriman's son. Definitely my go to spot at Ward Village. Happy hour is well worth it. All the items on the menu are good. Ambiance is awesome. That live music starts right when happy hour ends - makes it worth your while to stay Keep it up!

Merriman's is located on the corner of Auahi St. and offers indoor and outdoor seating. We didnt have a reservation so we sat at the Bar. The service is quick and friendly and the best part is they have hooks to put your purse. Merrimans is airy, well lit and welcoming. We ordered the famous Biscuits with butter, so yummy! Followed by the french onion soup- sweet onions, cheese , bread and the beef broth made for an enjoyable taste. Finally the crispy fish, shrimp were tender and flavorful. The best I've had, so worth the cost. It was our first time to Merriman's even though we've been to honolulu serveral times. This will definitely be a regular stop from nowcon.

    Happy Hour
    Erin B.

Our Merriman's adventure kicked off right -- we slid in just in time for Happy Hour, which immediately set the tone for a winning evening. The table went full appetizer mode: Taro Hummus (fine, not life-changing), Salt and Pepper Fries (absolute perfection -- do not skip these), Kalua Pig Quesadilla (solid), and the Tako with Country Bread, which was so transcendently good that one member of our party said "forget the entrée, I'm having two of these" and just... did that. A bold move. A correct move. Drinks were mostly a delight -- the Pineapple Li Hing Mui Soda was a tasty little tropical adventure -- but the real surprise of the evening was someone else's root beer. A root beer. Somehow the best one any of us had ever tasted. We're still thinking about it. For mains, the Mac Nut Fish (Shutome/Swordfish) was a total knockout, the Cast Iron Chicken earned rave reviews, the grilled fish tacos held their own, and the smash burger was... respectable. Our waitress was an absolute gem -- attentive, warm, and the kind of server who makes you want to tip well and come back soon. Add in the lovely ambiance and solid Happy Hour deals, and Merriman's earns a hearty recommendation -- just make sure you book a reservation!

Merriman's located in Ward/Kaka'ako is an elevated Farm to Table restaurant, conveniently located near Whole Foods and Ward parking structures. I expressed that I always wanted to go with my friend, so she was kind enough to take me and make a reservation during the Happy Hour period so we could be thrifty too. Here were my impressions of everything I had this past weekend from most to least favorite: Lobster "Pot Pie" (5/5): For an entree that was $70, I hesitated because I didn't want to be disappointed with 2-3 morsels of lobster. But I was so glad I tried it because they were generous with lobster portions and it was the perfect pot pie crust. "We Mix It How You Like It" Tableside Poke (4.5/5): I was skeptical in how deep in flavor the poke would have when it wasn't premarinated in advance but it was just right. The avo and ono were both underrated ingredients that makes me want to make my own rendition at home. Parmesan Truffle Fries (3.5/5): The crisp to the fries were nice but I prefer my fries to also be more fluffy on the inside. Honorable Mentions (3/5): Roasted Beet & Hirabara Farms Fennel and Ginger Beer, not really much to add, wasn't overly impressed nor disappointed with these items. Overall, Merriman's was great. Nice place for a Friday night dinner.

Stopped by for happy hour during a storm with my cousin lol! (This review was from a couple months ago.) Staff were super friendly and didn't have to wait long for a table, likely bc there was a storm. Pretty pricey place but decent for happy hour and special occasions. What we ordered: -Mai Tais: So goooood! I loved the lilikoi cream on top. I'd def order this again! 5/5 -Bread Pudding: My cousin and I shared this and it was amazing! Very tropical take on a classic dessert. The pineapple reallly added a great tang and contrast. 5/5 Overall, really enjoyed my experience here. I'd definitely come back for the food when I'm on the island again!

Returned after several years away, following many great visits in the past, and this place is still everything I remembered. The staff are genuinely welcoming, the atmosphere is relaxed and enjoyable, and the food continues to be excellent. Glad to see the consistency over time. I'll be back soon.

This place is one of my favorite places for happy hour! They are located in Ward Village downstairs of the Anaha building. There's lots of parking all over Ward which is a definite plus. They have lunch, happy hour and dinner. I've come at different times but happy hour is my favorite. Prices vary depending what you get but their prices are pretty standard for the area. They are always busy and it can get loud inside if it's busy and you're trying to have a conversation. They also have outdoor seating. They have their famous pineapple foam mai tai and several drink specials and some of their appetizers for a discount led price for happy hour. The green beans are my favorite appetizer since they're crunchy and the chili sauce isn't too spicy. One of the best things we've had also is their late night $30 special prime rib. It's such a great deal and it's really good! Its only available Sunday-Thursday 8-9pm. It does go quick so you should order it as soon as you sit down. Overall service, food and ambiance are great. It's a great place for a date, business meeting or family get together. ********* Merriman's at Ward Great cocktails and happy hour Def worth going to!

    Fish sandwich

This was my second visit. This time it was not happy hour so I ordered from the regular menu. I opted to start with the famous Mai tai. It was perfect as usual, with the Lilikoi foam topper. For my meal I opted for the fish sandwich. Our server really sold me on it because of the delicious house made Kaiser roll it was served on. She was right! I was so happy with this sandwich. The fish was seasoned perfectly, cooked just right, and the roll was perfectly chewy on the outside and springy soft in the middle. This is the first time I've enjoyed a Kaiser roll! One thing to note is that it does not come with fries, so you'll have to order those on the side. This was an enjoyable meal inside a modern and comfortable dining room with lovely city views through the large glass windows surrounding us.

Went here for a lunch meeting. The outdoor seating was the perfect casual but elegant lunch spot. It was extremely windy outside which was a little distracting, so inside would be quieter. I ordered the smash burger and father's which was delicious, the burger was juicy and the fries were tasty. Good size portion and worth the money. Our waiter was very nice and kept our waters filled. Parking is available at the theatre or Whole Foods parking lot.

Went to Merriman's to celebrate mom's birthday. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Service is attentive and friendly. And they have live music. Happy hour from 3-5:30pm which we made it to just in time. I've been looking for a new fish n chips spot since Likos closed, and I have to say this one was really good! Very crispy and flaky fish with good flavor. Will definitely get again. The green beans have a nice crunch and flavor. I like the macadamia nuts on top for extra crunch as well. I tried the beef bourguignon for the first time. The meat was very tender and flavorful. Kind of reminded me of a fancy beef stew (in a good way). My mom got the cast iron chicken. Portion was very big, those chickens were fed well. Delicious taste and cooked to perfection! For mom's birthday, they gave us complimentary champagne glasses. For dessert they sent an ice cream scoop with a happy birthday message. Well done Merriman's. Will be coming back!

He described everything with such care that it was hard not to order everything! I'd highly recommend a reservation as there was not an empty table the entire two hours we were there. The restaurant is on the smaller side so it can get quite loud but our table had great conversations and a overall lovely time. Appetizer: We ordered the konpachi hush puppies (apologies, they had a nicer name but this is how they were described to us) and they were delicious! I'm not a lover of fish, but these were so flavorful and the sauce paired perfectly with it. Drinks: I had the meringue di cedri to drink and it was akin to a lemon drop (10/10) it was sippable and lasted my whole meal. Husband had the Hana Koa Rice Breaker, which is one of his favorites as its smooth and pairs well with honestly anything. Entree: You will be missing out if you don't get the lemon risotto. I ordered it with the prosciutto and it may be one of the best meals I've had in Hawaii. The zucchini is done two ways in it: diced to be mixed in with the risotto and thinly sliced and grilled on top of the risotto. The panko crumbs on top really solidified the plate for me as top tier as risotto can get to be boring to eat after a few bites as they can lack texture, but not this risotto! Every bite was a journey and it was a very filling meal. My husband ordered the Korean steak and said it was better than some of the local steakhouses we had gone to. Our friend ordered the spaghetti carbonara and enjoyed it as well. Dessert: We were encouraged to try the Rocky Road ice cream and decided it was a must have when you visit. It was creamy, rich and delectable. We also opted to try the dessert special of the evening which was a Lilikoi cheesecake with a chocolate mousse. The cheesecake had a sour tang to it and the chocolate mousse partner with it to balance it out so it wasn't overly sweet. We loved it and I know in a few days we'll be craving this meal all over again!

Risotto on point. Luxuriously rich, creamy texture. The rice retains a slight al dente bite in the center, giving it structure rather than letting it become mushy. Prosciutto adds a perfect salty, savory crunch to break up the rich risotto. The only misstep was the fries served with the quinoa burger. From the warmest hospitality to the best food we had in Honolulu, XO completely exceeded our expectations. We only wish we had a restaurant like this back home in Chicago. Every dish was memorable. The Hamachi Crudo was the best we had on the island, fresh, vibrant, and perfectly citrusy balanced. The fried chicken absolutely lived up to the hype and then some. My personal favorite was the perfectly seared scallop with crusted shrimp, an unforgettable combination. My husband and I also decided to add the salmon, and we were so glad we did. Every bite was plump, fresh, and beautifully blackened. What truly blew us away was the value. We've been fortunate enough to dine at Alinea and EL Ideas in Chicago, and XO reminded us of what those restaurants might have inspired at a fraction of the price. The level of creativity, execution, and care that goes into every plate is extraordinary, yet the experience is incredibly approachable. We left completely satisfied, already talking about when we could come back. One bonus, if it's your thing! To their credit, they called my mom to let her know they had her card and put it in their safe until we could pick it up tomorrow. However, we were in the uber so we're unable to head back. The restaurant itself was noisy, which made having a conversation difficult. Glad we tried it but wouldn't return.

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon and decided to try Solera since we had a breakfast credit each morning. WOW is all I have to say. The food was absolutely incredible. We each got a drink--I ordered a matcha and he got a latte, and both were so good. For food, we shared the Hawaiian omelette, and they did not hold back on the meat. The service was top-notch. Our servers were attentive without being overbearing and checked in just the right amount, which always makes a difference. I would highly recommend Solera for both drinks and food--definitely worth a visit.

There were wine specials and I took advantage of this offering, choosing a 2023 Beaune Boucherottes from Louis Jadot. Our server (Malama) brought a 2021, which was great from my perspective. This wine sells for $180 and was listed at $177; what a deal! We chose Bone Marrow ($32), Beets and Strawberry Salad ($28) as our starters. Entrees were the Butchers Cut, which offered Filet, Ribeye or NY Strip ($70). I chose the NY strip and ordered Foie Gras ($32) to accompany it. Our other entrée was the Huli Hainan Chicken Plate ($42). Malama told us the Foie Gras was a mousse, so I asked her to bring it out with the other two appetizers. The Bone Marrow plate came with two halves of bone and four pieces of toasted ciabatta. The Foie Gras dish was interesting ... Three piped dollops of foie gras mousse, with three quenelles of a pineapple mostarda and a plate of Madeleines. The Beets & Strawberry Salad was a visual and taste treat ... It was my favorite of the three starters. The foie gras atop the Madeleine was too sweet for our palates; it was much more successful on the toasted ciabatta that accompanied the bone marrow. The NY Strip came sliced, with another bone marrow and mashed potatoes. The Hainan Chicken came with ginger scallion rice, lomi tomato chile, dark soy (which was very watery), slices of cucumber and cilantro. The chicken was the least successful dish we've had here. I give the executive chef kudos to add variety to the menu. The steak came with a container of miso bordelaise ... I thought it was okay, my tablemate didn't like it. I tried the foie gras mousse on pieces of steak ... It was okay. We had the steak and chicken dishes boxed and perused the dessert menu. I don't usually eat dessert so the decision on what to order is left to my fellow foodie. She chose the Flourless Chocolate Cake ($16); I asked for a cup of coffee ($11). The cake was rich and dense, almost like fudge. We boxed that up ... My fellow foodie has enough food for next week. What did we think? The décor is pretty much the same as when it operated as La Vie, except for the addition of black tablecloths. There was a pianist playing near the bar ... That added a nice touch to the ambience of the place. Service was fine but not what we were looking for. We gave Solera a rating of 4 (perhaps a touch under). We expect a bit more when the bill is $427.22 (plus tip).

Came with two spreads: pimiento cheese and honey butter. Biscuits had were not the tradional hard crust flaky layer type. They were more fluffy inside with smoother crust similar to the outside layer of a cake. Battery yummy. The better entree was the Chilean Seabass. One of the best sauces I've had on seafood. The sauce was perfect. Smooth blend of miso, cream, miron and what tasted like black sesame. Slightly sweet. Not too heavy. The Seabass was also perfectly cooked; springy and moist. The mushroom and spinach tasted like they were soaked on sweet white wine. Came with white rice topped with furikake. Pricey at $50 but worth it. The Creole Pasta had lots of real crab topping the pasta. Succulent shrimp mixed in the pasta. Seafood was fresh. The creamy sauce was not too thick but could use a little more of the creole seasoning. I expected it to be a little spicy but it was not. Good serving size. Came with two slices of toast. It's closer to Alfredo sauce but with the paprika taste. The staff were all so professional but chill and naturally friendly at the same time. One of the nicest restaurant staff I've met. The restaurant has a relax ambiance. It's on the second floor of the store. Dining room has high ceilings. We sat next to the big window. Just a perfect experience. Loved it.

I ordered the Birria Pizza which was that days Pizza Special and my friend ordered the Banh Mi Fish Sandwich. Didn't take too long to receive our food. The Birria pizza was delicious and very flavorful, but I think it would be even better if it came with consome to dip the pizza in. My friend enjoyed his Banh Mi, but did state that the bread was too soft and got soggy so he couldn't eat it with his hands like you normally would. He did enjoy the flavor and appreciated the spiciness and fresh ingredients. We also shared Garlic Truffle Oil Fries which are my favorite to get. Especially when dipped in the house made ketchup (so good) and the mustard aioli.

When our party first walked in, we were a tiny bit skeptical because of the empty room (which was beautifully decorated). However as each course came out, we were blown away and didn't know how the restaurant was not way busier for a Saturday night! Each dish/course was well thought out and prepared to perfection. We were all taken by surprise in a great way. The head chef Anthony was very passionate and excited about his work and that was very refreshing! Overall a wonderful experience and we will be back!

The progression of dishes felt thoughtful and creative-- * Crispy Salt & Vinegar Chicken Skin (the perfect starter crunch) * Soupe de Poisson (deep, comforting flavors) * Pina Colada Granita (a refreshing palate cleanser) * Pan Seared Scallops (my personal favorite--perfectly caramelized and tender) * Double Cut Rack of Lamb (succulent and cooked to perfection) * Lemon Crème Brûlée Tart (a sweet, bright finish) Every plate was elegant, well-executed, and beautifully presented. The atmosphere strikes a balance between sophisticated and welcoming. Dim lighting, intimate tables, and quiet elegance make you feel like you've stepped into a hidden gem in the middle of Kaimuki. Honestly, I felt like a celebrity dining here. Service was polished but never pretentious--our server was attentive, knowledgeable about the courses, and kept the pacing of the meal just right. For the level of creativity and execution, Carte Blanche feels like an affordable luxury in Honolulu's dining scene. Perfect for anniversaries, date nights, or anytime you want an elevated experience without flying to the mainland. Highly recommend booking a reservation--you'll want to savor every moment here.
