This location is just as excellent as the others. I esp. love Kara's because they have such a wide flavor selection. This is key for my fiance and I. She LOVES all things chocolate and I don't like chocolate. They have enough chocolate delights to keep her happy and enough 'alternative' selections that I can always find one or two to nibble on. I wish I had more to say than this... For a girl who absolutely loves cupcakes, and especially has a special place in her heart for lemon cupcakes, I was disappointed. This was my second time having had a cupcake from this place. I love the wide array of selection, especially with the mini cupcakes, which is all I need, and all my kiddos need. This trip was the busiest I had ever seen Oxbow, and I by the time we got to Kara's, the case looked nearly empty. But the woman working assured us there were more in the back. My four year old and I picked out a dozen minis to take home as an after dinner treat. Everything we had was so good. I am so sad to have to give Kara's Cupcakes 4 stars and not 5 because I love their cupcakes. So I came here about a week ago and I was about to buy cupcake until I discovered a fly in the case. It was literally flying around from cupcake to cupcake. Not sure how it got in there but it definitely changed my mind about buying something that day. Pretty gross. I can't believe what I saw. I mean, at first I didn't think too much of it until I realized that flies land on everything. And just the thought of a fly landing on a cupcake ... no thank you! So this past weekend was my great grandmas 93rd birthday. I ordered cupcakes online which was a breeze. I ordered 100 regular cupcakes with cute tulip, dots & heart fondant. When I came to pick up the cupcakes checkout was easy. I was confused at first because the cashier had said the total & waiting for my card but I told her it should've already been charged since it was an online order. So I went on my way. When I arrived at the venue I realized that I was missing some of my cupcakes! I should've totally checked first but I was in a rush to get to the venue in time since it wasn't in town. I was so disappointed. I called the bakery right away & Chad answered the phone. He was so polite & made sure to make me feel like I mattered. He let me know that the cupcakes were still at the bakery & that I could come pick them up. But since I wasn't in town I told him that it was fine. He said he would make sure to talk to the assistant manager Tara who later contacted me & let me know that she felt really bad that it all happened & would reimburse me for the cupcakes missing. Disappointed. A blond woman with short hair cut in her late 40s, 50s had the worst hateful expression on her face as she begrudgingly came to tend to the cupcake stand at the Oxbow market after waiting for a while. When I asked a question about the cupcake prices, she looked at me like she didn't want me to be there, and she begrudgingly answered the question after a loud huff like it was an imposition for her to answer it. Having come from a well-heeled resort at Alila Napa Valley where service exceeded expectations, I was surprised at how much rudeness and utter hate emanated from this woman's eyes. I had never met this woman before and had only asked about the price of the cupcakes if I purchase half a dozen cupcakes rather than just one. Thankfully, a much younger brunette lady quickly came to the rescue and took over the sale. I don't know if the brunette girl knew the blond woman was acting like a nutjob or not but she quickly interceded and took over and was exceedingly nice and friendly as one would normally expect from someone who is selling something to a customer. Maybe the older blond woman resented working at Kara's cupcakes while the younger brunette was away, maybe the older blonde woman is Kara (lol) the owner herself and didn't like the way I looked, maybe it was something else? Who knows, but the older blonde woman probably should not be working in customer service and/or someone at Kara's should stop her from tending to the counter while the younger brunette lady stepped away because I could tell that she hated either her job or something else. I would want to know if I were the owner. As for the cupcakes, I prefer Sprinkles cupcakes which are lighter, fluffier, much larger, less of an onslaught of over-sugary concentrated cream taste, and more of a subtle flavorful taste. Kara's cupcakes is small, unnecessarily stingy in size as though sugar and flour costs a lot, and when one bites into it one only tastes the overwhelming sugar. Even my daughter couldn't taste more than a bite into carrot cupcake even though that is her favorite flavor - she said it's too sweet for her. read more

I have (pretty flexible) rules & rituals when it comes to cupcake eating. I only eat half of the cake portion but 100% of the frosting. Chocolate frosting is acceptable but chocolate cake is not; neither is carrot cake. I always buy two (a vanilla-vanilla & another flavor, preferably strawberry or red velvet) because I know one is never enough. Kara's Sweet Vanilla is one of my most favorite vanilla-vanilla cupcakes. I felt a little anxious, a little agitated when I saw there was only one Sweet Vanilla left in the display case. I'm sure there were more in the back, but just in case, I sent ESP messages to the couple in front of us, "You don't want *that* cupcake. You'd rather have a Fleur De Sel...." I guess my telepathy worked because the lone cupcake was still there when it was out turn to order. In addition to my vanilla, the bf picked a Key Lime cupcake. The Key Lime was decent (not my cup of tea) but I loved the sugary fondant-type star decoration. I dove into the Sweet Vanilla, it's rich buttercream frosting a perfect compliment to the moist, fluffy cake. When I see Kara's signature pink walls & overload of white sprinkles, I know my taste buds are about to be very happy. $6.50 for two cupcakes. Mini cupcakes are $2 each. read more

I've been to their CupKates truck several times to try new flavors in hope of finding "the one" - on this visit, I tried the chocolate fleur de sel and the passionfruit vanilla. But I've been consistently....not disappointed, just underwhelmed. I don't mind paying $3+ for a great cupcake, so it's not the price, it's the quality. Kara's puts too much overly-sweet frosting. The frosting on the passionfruit cupcake was drippy and partially melting. And the cake is just okay - but definitely not as moist or fluffy as it should be. The cupcakes I've had at the CupKates truck were better than these. I ended up wiping most of the frosting on to the cupcake wrapper. Meh. I don't know why I even try anymore. *shrug* read more

I don't consider myself a cupcake connoisseur or anything, but these cupcakes are honestly good. The frosting and cake meld together... What I mean is the cake is so moist, it's quite like frosting and the frosting is so light but dense, it's quite like the cake. If you're any bit confused, just never mind my argument, and I'll leave it at: these cupcakes are GOOD.
