I heard to arrive early to get your name on the list so my boyfriend and I arrived around 5:15pm and we didn't make the first seating, but we grabbed drinks at Bob's next door while we waited and we got a call at 6:30pm. I had expected to wait much longer so was pleasantly surprised! The service was very attentive and friendly and I really appreciate how hard the staff works to get people in and out fairly quickly. For the price, the quality of the sushi is pretty good! I'm a sushi lover and the sushi quality definitely exceeded my expectations -- not the best sushi I've had, but still pretty tasty! The Thai donuts with ice cream are also a must try. The place is small and cozy, but the experience is what makes this place unique. Will definitely be coming back! read more

Once you have been here (thanks Yelpers!), you will absa-fricking-lutely go back. Sure, there is no place to escape the sun while you wait, but you will not regret the large selection of floating sushi and sashimi treats that are SOOOoOO good. Each plate you select is priced by color, and your wait staff knows what you ate by the plate. They have small bottles of different saki types to drink that were reasonably priced. There are menu specials as well to special order. This place is pretty crowded, so you will be making friends pretty quickly with your neighbor. Please note, the management is like Honey Badger- they do not care. "If" someone thinks they deserve special privileges, all people will wait the same, are seated the same, and get the same attention. I've been very curious to try Katana for some time after several friends recommendations. We came around 5:23 pm just to see where the place was and where we could park and got a surprise went we notice there was a line already! Even though the heat was unbearable the line keep growing so we decided to get in line too, I mean if people were willing to do a line for that long it must be some very special sushi. After a lot of waiting, the restaurant finally opened. Is a very small place so we have to wait more to be seated but a least this time we were inside with A/C! We took a number (37) and the very nice server took our name and phone number. We decided to stayed inside as the public parking behind the restaurant is free after 6:00 pm. Don't let the long wait discourage you! It's absolutely worth it! This is by far one of my favorite places I've been in Miami. Some of the best sushi and sashimi I've had in a long time. So fresh! The best sushi rice I have ever eaten! And the fish was so fresh!!! I normally dip a little bit of my sushi rolls on soy sauce, not this time! It didn't need it!! Perfectly made! The wakame salat and the crab salad were amazing too! And the Gyoza oh my!!! All the food was so good that I actually forgot to take pictures of all the plates we ate! So the wait for this place is insane on the weekend because that only have 15 seats, but I was determined to take my daughter because she asks for sushi daily. So we made the 1 hour + trek from sunrise to Katana on a Friday evening and checked in at 6:12 and had an hour wait. You have to find something to do in the mean time because the place is small and intimate. So prepare to get some cocktails or catch up on a good book while you wait. Every seat is a good seat where you can access all of the sushi and they have a separate menu. Prices are amazingly reasonable and you just start eating and each plate costs a different price. Everything is so fresh and affordable. We tried a lot of rolls, octopus, plum wine, we just kept grabbing and 12 plates later we were ready for dessert which was Thai donuts with ice cream. Who goes to a restaurant without reading the reviews first? I say this because every time I go, people stand over you while you eat and rudely think it's just a walk-in restaurant. They'll act like you're skipping them in the line when you did the right thing - scanned the QR code, waited the hour wait outside, and came back when you get the text or they tell you it's your time to be seated. Read the reviews and you'd know this. I don't need to repeat that the reservation system or lack thereof is a little funky. A quick scroll through a few reviews and you will be aware of this before arriving. It is frustrating that you can't see where you are on the list. It would be cool if they switched over to one of those virtual waitlists where you can see where you are on the list. It would still be first come first serve when you scan the QR code at the restaurant, but it would eliminate a lot of confusion if people could check where they are wait time wise without having to bother the servers. Upon arrival, you'll see that you need to scan a QR code to put your name on the list. There is ALWAYS a line. People will be lined up outside before 6 as if Katana is a Black Friday Best Buy. I'm not trying to deter you, I'm trying to make you aware so you don't bring negative energy when you find out Katana is just like any other high demand restaurant with a long wait time. *******FINALLY. The sushi is great but expect long lines as they don't take reservations and don't bother with the online waitlist. It's better to go in person and put your name down. There's a cigar bar and restaurant next door where you can grab a drink while you wait. The crepe cake it's so light and too sweet. Definitely my favorite desert. NOT WORTH THE 2 HOUR WAIT. NOT FOR EXPERIENCED SUSHI LOVERS.. There are too many people allowed inside of the small restaurant. People have kids sitting on the floor next to tables, people standing along the front window, and people crowding the door. It looks like a fire hazard. Once seated, we noticed that the server washed the dishes (barely) in a single sink and quickly rinsed them. His hands dripping with dish water while serving people dishes, one was bowls of soup (for sure water dripped into their soup). We ordered 2 yellowtail and scallion hand rolls and requested the yellowtail to be chopped up small (which is what we always order at every sushi restaurant without issue), the server looked confused, said something in his language to the sushi chef, then a few minutes later says they do not have negi hamachi (which is not what we asked for). He then he asked if we want hamachi sashimi and we say ok. We asked how many pieces does an order of ikura come and he could not understand the question so we just ordered 4 (which is our usual order) and he says that's too much but writes it down anyway. The ikura was very salty and had an undesirable aftertaste. The tako sashimi was fresh, we asked for 2 pieces and he didn't explain 1 order sashimi comes with 4 pieces and brought us 8 pieces (2 orders). The shrimp shumai was disgusting and did not taste like any shrimp was inside. We received 2 yellowtail hand rolls even though the server made it seem like we weren't going to get them.. The negitoro and yellowtail hand rolls were 80% rice but the fish was fresh. 4 hand rolls, 2 tako sashimi, 4 ikura sashimi, 1 shrimp shumai, 1 hamachi sashimi came to $103 and $125 with tip. Definitely not worth it. We will continue to drive 45 minutes to Matsuri once a week. read more

So glad I found this place, thank goodness for Instagram. It is a beauty of its own. So yes the wait times do get very long for this location. They open from 6pm to 12. I suggest getting in line by 545 pm to not have a long wait. They already are aware of the long wait lines for the sushi boat experience and encourage everyone to try the sister location in Hialeah. It's a small venue but packed with so much flavor, quality and great customer service. I was so happy to have every employee treat us all so nice and with a smile on their face. I know it can get a lot to deal with because of the amount of customers at one time but the employees do not let that get in the way of such nice customer service. Keep in mind when you sit, because it's a small place and it fills up super quick you are all placed next to each other. But you are however associated with your party and the spots are wiped down and sanitized between each customer. All employees do wear masks as well, which is a positive, they care about the safety and well being of their employees. So the plates range from 2.50 to 9$. However we did not see any 9$ one but that was ok because they still have there menu available that you can order anything off from. Some of the plates included Delicious fresh fish with options such as tuna, yellow tail. When i was there they had a variety of sushi rolls about 4 to each plate with options such as salmon with cream cheese, on the inside and outside. Spicy tuna roll, a shrimp tempura roll. Something for every one to try. They also served dumplings, fried and other options that included cooked sea food. We tried so many options we would even forget to take pictures, but did manage to catch some. Off the menu they did had blue fin tuna and it was delicious, fresh and such a nice texture. One of the dirtiest restaurants I have been to around the world. I cannot even fully describe how filthy this place is. Start with the bathroom....OMG, just stay away! The dirt, dust and debris hanging from the vents that are over top of YOU and the food prep areas...just plain disgusting! I can guarantee than many customers have had this filth mixed into their food. Mold and mildew present on many customer areas. Wait times....This business model of not taking reservation is a terrible choice. Microwave - like your food or sake nuked? That's what they do here. I have watched it. So finding fresh , tasty sushi for a reasonable price is unheard of . 5 star sushi!!! I am SO happy to have found my place for sushi in Miami. The sushi at Katana is some of the freshest sushi I've had in my entire life. The salmon nigiri melted in my mouth, the udon noodle soup had the tastiest broth. We also got the rainbow roll, spicy tuna roll, and Alaskan roll. They normally have little boats going around but because of covid this was all covered up and not a thing. Instead, you can watch the chef prep your roll and he puts it right on the counter for you. I loved this process and seeing the sushi chef do his thing. I wish I can eat sushi from here everyday. Inside, you can find a semicircular structure with tables around it, and if you get one seat there, you can grab your small plates from the conveyer belt. It is super cheap - comparing to other sushi places - and the service is great. It only has indoor seating, so I'm not sure how they handle the situation with the pandemic. My visit was pre-covid. I had gone here growing up in miami and it was good. Several years back went again and I don't remember having a great experience. Tonight the whole experience was excellent. Sure we had to wait a bit but well worth the wait. If you don't see what you want on a the little boats just order from the server, the menu can be found online. I was super surprised (shocked really) about the quality of the fish... it was super fresh and such nice pieces. They also had toro which is always awesome to see as a special.
