Doesn't look like much, but man oh man is this place special! Arlene was the best! She really made the experience truly amazing. As first timers we had no clue what's what. She recommended we try the Avocado Delight (with half potatoes & half fruit) & the Ruben Sandwich both were delicious. And she insisted we get a lemon pancake on the side. We stopped here for lunch on the way to go camping and were very pleased with our choice. The menu is large enough that there is something for everyone. I had the avocado delight sandwich and finished the whole thing off, which is unusual. It was large and delicious. My boyfriend was happy with his chicken club too. Our waitress was super friendly and helpful, and was good about explaining the menu, which includes other items, like an omelet and burger that also starts out as avocado delight. I think this place would be good if you go on a day where it's not incredibly crowded. We were immediately sat at a table and after 10 minutes no one even brought us water (it was 100° out so we were really thirsty!) My takeout was good and the staff were nice, both as always. However, on March 13, 2021, while the County is in Covid purple tier, the indoor seating was at 100% capacity. This was alarming, when I had to go inside to pay for my takeout. I would not have placed an order here at all if I had come in person to do it; I had placed a takeout order by phone first. Also, I saw zero sanitizing of tables between customers; I observed for 40 minutes during the busy brunch time on a Saturday, while waiting outdoors for my food. Even if it had been the next day, March 14, 2021, when Placer County was moved to red tier, the indoor seating should have been only at 25%. We really wanted to love this place, as it is highly rated by many folks and a mainstay in our town of Auburn, but if we are being objective, it's only a 3 star diner. Here's why. First impression, the location is not very attractive as this house-converted-to-diner is wedged between a couple of off-road ATV dealers and a concrete parking slab. It's very small, so when you enter the front door, you are standing right next to folks who are seated and eating. There just isn't much space and tables are placed close together with little room to maneuver. It felt very cramped. We opted for the corner table-for-two, which required dragging the table away from the corner to get into the corner seat, then dragging the table back so others could still walk by. We were provided menus upon seating, and our drink order was taken shortly after that, then a bit of a wait before we could order because they were busy. Our waitress took our order, Eggs Benedict for me and Waffle with 1 egg and sausage links for my wife. It took longer than normal for our order to arrive. As we waited, we were doing that thing where you start seeing who else has been served and try to figure out if they got there before you... or maybe that's just me. Anyway, our order arrived, probably about 20 minutes after we ordered. The Belgian waffle was as expected, but drizzled with a butter-like liquid that did not taste like real butter. Syrup was provided upon request. The sausage was not present, but bacon was instead. My wife did not want to complain, so she kept quiet, but the waitress must have realized the error because she brought out a separate plate with 2 sausage links moments later. My Eggs Benedict were disappointing because the eggs were overcooked and the yolks were solid rather than runny, but the smokey flavor of the Canadian Bacon and the tasty Hollandaise sauce were a plus. I would have preferred shredded hash browns rather than large cubed potatoes, but they don't do hash browns. The food, as a whole, was not bad, but not stellar, either. The service was adequate, but not super. It took a while to get someone's attention to request butter for the waffle. After finally catching someone's attention, they brought a low quality whipped margarine, not butter. The prices were higher than expected, but restaurants all over seem to be raising prices far in excess of the inflation rate. Even though service was nominal, we left a 20% tip, for a cost of $50 total for Eggs Benedict, Waffle with egg/sausage, and two iced teas. In summary, it was a mediocre breakfast in a place that's far too small and cramped for my liking. Many others seem to love it, so give it a try if you aren't sure. read more

Five stars for the pancakes, nixed a star for the other food. This place was packed because the breakfast is tasty. They're a cash only business so keep this in mind. They do have an ATM machine. Wished the burger was cooked medium not well done. The tuna was so bland it could of used some seasonings or celery, onion, mustard, lemon, salt, pepper idk I'm not going to spend all day critiquing their tuna but I tried it and it was 1 Bland City, Boring. Katrina's is the answer, they have homemade this and that including gravy with biscuits, lemon pancakes that are heavenly without adding anything (i do like blueberry compote but don't even grab the syrup) must try their Ruben.. and definitely the salads, the portions are "Americana" (large) .. I understand that everyone is short staffed, but bad service is bad service. Poor communication, being walked past and long delays left us with a bad taste. However changing their tip to a higher amount after we left is just stealing. Either pay with cash or a credit card so you can dispute any changes to your bill. I asked to add tomatoes and wasn't told it would cost me $3 for a couple slices. The biscuits and gravy tasted as though they came straight out of a can. Service was terrible too! I sat outside on their lovely patio after checking in. They did not come to my table for a long time. I didn't get water or coffee until my food was brought out. Then I had to wait for my silverware to be brought out. In the meantime, my food got cold and the wasps attacked my food. I got up to go ask for a table inside. The waitress apologized and said she'd replace my biscuits and gravy due to the wasps, she never did. I put my dog in my car and returned inside. They did not greet me or lead me to my new table. When we wanted to make a meal stop on the way home from Tahoe, and were delighted to find that Katrina's café in Auburn would fit the bill for us. my husband had the veggie omelette with artichokes and I had the highly recommended Tuscan scramble. I also enjoyed a special bloody Mary. We arrived near they're closing time and we're pleased that the place was almost empty, since it is a very cute but small space and we need to be careful. We were both very happy with our meals and the portions are huge. We both took a generous amount home and had another meal each. I was hoping to get a Benedict but that's a weekend only event. I've passed Katrina's off Garden Highway many times; with a green and off-white sign can be seen easily from the road. Weirdly nestled among car repair places and the back end of a strip mall is this cute and delicious little local place. The exterior is a small yellow house-like building where a few tables border the sides. Inside is a cozy transplanted Southern interior of various plates and flower paintings hang along the red and tan walls. The entire place is a sea of light wooden tables. At the back is a neck-high wall that leads to the kitchen that can be seen through the rectangular order-up window. A whiteboard hangs to the right of the kitchen door where specials are listed in thin writing. I went with the blackberry waffle since that simply spoke to me, a side of eggs and bacon, and a cup of coffee. After a short wait I received a massive waffle loaded with blackberries, a few stray blueberries, and whipped cream. The eggs 'n' bacon came on their own plate, but that's not the star here. The waffle was a sure hit. Crispy brown, still slightly fluffy, a hint of vanilla taste, and lots of tart and sweet blackberries on the top. It didn't really need syrup save on some of the more tart berries that didn't get a bit o' whip. Simply delicious and filling in its own right. I regretted getting the sides since they weren't needed, but still perfectly cooked with little to no grease at all. Overall, I'm mad at myself for not going here earlier. Quality food for what usually is heavy and greasy category of food. Everything is well done and fresh. A second visit would include a side of fruit that was more of an entree of melon, watermelon, apples, pineapple, and oranges. All fresh too. I commend the staff as they run around making sure every table is satisfied and not in any need. Occasionally I hear a rather unsavory quote thrown their way from a customer to which they take the high ground and carry on. This place simply is cute and cozy with tasty food to boot. Disappointing. It took 45 minutes to get our food. It was so loud I could barely hear our conversation. The interior is dusty and outdated. I ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs and my dad the corned beef hash. It was the worst chicken fried steak I've ever had. The edges were rock hard, the chicken/breading had zero seasoning and the gravy was utterly tasteless (as was the hash). This place is always packed which is a testament to how good it is. There are so many different breakfast and brunch options! I'm an omelette fan and they have about 20 different options including a create you own! They also have lunch/dinner options like burgers, but, so far, I have only tried their breakfast. There is both inside and outside seating but the place is small so you may have to wait your turn. It is worth the wait, however. I have always received friendly, upbeat service (they even let us drink our Dutch Bros coffee at breakfast!), even though, as I said, they are always busy! Their hours are Wed - Sat 7am-2:30, Sun 7am - 2pm. This is a very small and casual restaurant. Indoor and outdoor seating is limited. This is a popular destination for the locals as well as all the surrounding areas for breakfast and brunch! Be prepared to have a short wait. Parking can be a challenge with a few spaces in front of the restaurant plus a small parking lot right next to the restaurant. They do not accept credit cards! Local Checks and Cash Only! They have a ATM machine inside. No TV, and No Wi-Fi. Not the best of location. What makes Katrina stand-out is the quality of their dishes. You can taste the freshness in their ingredients. Not to mention their portion are huge! Today I ordered Don's Special Omelette. An Omelette with everything but the kitchen sink. This was one of the best omelette I have had in a while. Full of fantastic flavors ! Accompanied by country potatoes and sour-dough toast. The toast was buttered and toasted to perfection. This was like a well orchestrated symphony. Everything went so well together! Once my wife saw that Katrina served home-made corned beef. She didn't need to look any further. She ordered the home made corned beef with scrambled eggs with country potatoes and sour dough toast. She did give me a bite and I can tell you It was worth coming all the way from Elk Grove.
