We decided to try this place because the sushi place next door was full. This place was pretty empty. They have both a la carte shabu shabu as well as ayce. And the ayce has 3 levels. We decided to splurge and go for the highest level which is a bit more than most places but we wanted to try some of the offerings like waygu. The waygu was definitely really good. And what surprised all of us was that second and third orders of the waygu were just as good as the first -- we've seen at other ayce restaurants the first order of the meat is the premium stuff and then they give you lower quality meat later. But not here. The quality was up there each time. The selection of meat was very good and the vegetables were also all fresh and good. They even had 3 options for noodles. The only downside was the service. The staff was friendly and worked hard. But it seemed like there were only 2 guys working so they were behind and we did have to wait a bit for each of our orders. It's been years since my last visit to Yuzu and sadly this doesn't live up to what I remembered. Ordered the AYCE menu with my friend and the service was sub par. I don't think this is a reflection of the servers though, moreso the management leaders of Yuzu. There were only 2 employees working the front side of the whole restaurant on a Thursday night. Service was extremely slow despite our servers attending all the customers. Our order was also messed up as they brought us pork even though we ordered only beef. we also ordered a lot of veggies and they only brought us only half of what we put in. Also the broth flavor wasn't as good as I remembered. The tomato broth was very bland, and the tom yum has more flavor but also had a powdery feel to the broth. I LOVEEEE this spot. I honestly can't remember why I liked it so much in the first place before it became ayce but im SOOOOO happy they added this option. I think I really liked the pork broth when I first tried this place and thats what really got me. And I also like that you can choose the spicy level for your broth. It does get kinda pricey bc you have to pay extra for some of the broths but it's worth. I've heard they have a special yuzu ponzu dipping sauce and that's why they're called yuzu but I'm not sure. Service was good except we got charged extra for fish ball w/ roe and never got it and I realized like 5 hours after :( There's only a few table inside and the main focus is the wrap around bar seating. Pretty common for shabu places. Parking gets tricky if you come on a busy night as there's a LOT of other restaurants in this plaza. Love this place! Always recommend. read more

Stopped by for early dinner with my sister. We were promptly greeted and seated at the counter. We split the Yuzu favorite and upgraded to the 14 oz size. The spicy miso was super flavored and actually spicy, she had the Tom Yum which was also delicious. The green only veggie bowl had spinach, one piece of cabbage and two pieces for bok choy, def needed more greens. We usually get the feast for two. So this was a bit of a change for us, glad we tried it but probably sticking to our usual. They are offering a AYCE $22 lunch special Monday - Thursday from 11-3. read more

I wrote a review 3 years ago and gave this place 3 stars but unfortunately after several more visits, I need to update my review to 2 stars. The prices have gone way up but the customer experience continues to go down. I visited a few days ago with my wife and although I love their food, this restaurant misses on too many small simple details that ruin the customer experience. Let me emphasize one more time though that the food is great. With that being said, I have experienced on multiple visits, small flies hovering over my food, the restaurant running out of green onion, running out of ice and on my most recent visit, they did not have any rice cooked which I thought was odd considering they had been open for 2 hours and the store was empty. You are given a 1.5hr time limit from your first plate of meat and my hot pot was not turned on high enough so the meat literally wasn't cooking. After the server turned up the heat, I noticed that even though I was ordering full servings of premium wagyu, each plate literally only had about x8-10 slices of meat. Between my wife and I, we finished each plate before the server could even walk back to the kitchen. It seemed like it was done intentionally to waste time for us as we were left waiting 6-7+ mins between plates just not eating. That comes to about 30+ mins of us just sitting and waiting for food. Might I remind you, there was only 3 parties total in the restaurant including us and the others were a party of 2 and a party of 4. After our 5th small plate, our server took longer to check in on us to the point where I just decided to call it quits. My final total+ tip was $125. Sadly, not worth it anymore. One thing about yuzu that makes their quality competitive against Broth, shabuya etc is their house made sauces and meat quality. I came here for lunch to try their Premium AYCE shabu option. I think it's fine. I prefer the AYCE shabu at BROTH because you can self-serve all of your non-meat options. Yuzu does offer a wider selection of meats and broths, like thinly sliced lamb and szechuan soup base. A few selections like tofu skin and enoki mushrooms are really nice to have as well. I also like that they offer grilled skewers; I got the beef tongue, which was alright. I would order the bacon-wrapped quail eggs and the pork belly next time. The colder weather has me wanting a bowl of hot soup comfort food. I had the Taiwanese beef broth: deep flavor with just a touch of that licorice star anise flavor. Added ground garlic purée plus mild spice, it paired well with the leaner cut of American wagyu beef. I usually get the seafood combo but that is always just a bit more food than I can manage to finish. There seem to be a nearly infinite number of combinations from type of broth to additional ingredients to make your pot customized for your own style. The citrus kombu has a good citrus taste but needed a lot more flavor - my dinner companion asked for some salt - the kitchen sent out a bowl of it- he only needed a tiny amount. The vegetables set that come with the meal is generous, lots of tender spinach, a bit of enoki and half a shiitake mushroom, a piece of corn on the cob , carrots and a wedge of pumpkin. Your choice of included udon, ramen or shirataki (konjac jelly) for additional charge. I added a dollop of garlic to my sesame paste dipping sauce, ground daikon to the soy and spring onions to the spice blend. All the sauces are refillable. Friendly staff. My waiter was new and needed to ask how to describe the flavor of the Taiwanese beef broth, and another waitress came by to help him out. We sat at the long common bar, across from other patrons; the distance is close enough to hear each other's conversations. Generally quiet, clean and well lit. It had been years since I came to this place. Decided to stop by last Thursday about 2pm with my boys. I was extremely disappointed. We came for the shabu shabu. The meat was not fresh and had an awkward taste. (Premium) The add on condiments for the sauces were removed from other party while still eating and brought to us. The same thing happened when another party wanted the condiments, the server came and removed it without asking us if we were done. Do they not have more then one? The server was on his phone most of the time and felt like he didn't want to be there. The doors to the kitchen were open, so I was able to see to the back. The cook or food prep person was also on the phone. Phones are so unsanitary and while handling food is just gross. Service and food was not great. Would not return to this place again. read more

We've been coming to this place for over 7 years. We've brought family and friends, and everyone agrees there's no better pork broth than here. The meat is excellent, and the three sauces are delicious. However, over the past three years, we've noticed some changes--especially in the quality of service and cleanliness, which is very important to us (and friends and family have said the same) Unfortunately, the restaurant no longer looks well taken care of. On one visit, there were flies around our table, the windows were not clean, and when I asked if there was a manager on duty, I was told there was no manager in the restaurant at that time. I rarely comment in extensive detail regarding service because I care most about food and food quality, but the service here is pretty terrible. We came before things got busy, but servers were more attached to their phones than they were to customers. In order to get refills on water, assistance with sauces, and even assistance with taking my payment, I needed to call for their attention. We were only offered refill on fountain drinks when we were paying our tab. We basically felt like we were inconveniencing staff when we were asking for water refills. Though we got decent value for what we paid, the thing is this: there are at least five places for high quality hot pot within a few blocks. I love a good Shabu Shabu and Yuzu always delivers. The pork bone broth is my go-to and I usually get the atomic level spice (but of a masochist here). The premium level AYCE offers great appetizers and protein options along with the works of vegetable options. I have yet to try the a la carte menu but I'm sure it's great as well! Let me give you a rundown of the AYCE Menu since it's pretty confusing. Premium items are the premium price $48 Regular is $38. Limit 4 items - refers to per round. For Ayce it's a shabu NOT a GRILL if you get regular - they don't explain this to you. Beverages and condiments request it, it's not automatic here. Overall the meats though scarce offerings were fine, Broth was ok but if you enjoy spicy ask for hot drops because i had a mild and a spicy broth and both were the same- overall definitely not worth the price as many other ayce shabu places offer the same thing with higher quality and service. Though i think they were ... confused about the number of customers, about half the place was filled for lunch due to it being the Holidays but it seems the employees were not well equipped. read more

This Shabu spot was my favorite because I felt it had great service and good quality food. They have a variety of meats, broths, etc to choose from. They also have a number of options to pick from for your meal. You can do all you can eat or choose how many ounces of meat you want. They also have good sauces for dipping. Two different veggie plate options. Rice and choice of ramen or udon. I always get the Pork broth which is still my favorite. It's a fairly decent size place. It's average noise. Always clean. I've always received great service here in the past. The visit before my last was the worst experience. Two young men. We stood there for about 5 mins before they acknowledged us. They were both on their phones and not in no hurry to seat us. Place was empty which is odd because it's typically a busy spot. My FAVORITE shabu place! Been here many times and have tried all the broths. The broths are high quality and flavorful, my top favorites are pork bone, tom yum, and kimchi. The 3 sauces they bring out are good (don't forget to ask for condiments to adjust sauces to how you prefer). I've tried almost all their meats and the premium meats are definitely worth buying. The A5 wagyu is so good it melts in your mouth. Their other meats are also really good quality, my faves being short rib, dry aged, and American wagyu. I brought my vegetarian friend here and they were very accommodating. They have vegetarian broth options, large veggie platters and they made her special sauces. If you're not much of a soup person but you're just going with friends, their grilled items are so underrated, I've been obsessed with the enoki beef rolls and fried scallops with the citrus cajun aioli sauce. I've come here several times for both lunch and dinner, and this time I had the premium all you can eat for lunch. It is on the pricier end, but you get higher quality meat. It's typically really slow here during lunchtime, but it does take a while for the vegetables and meat to come out so you have to order it in advance. This has been my go-to spot with my friend for years! But that changed today... the table next to us had a roach ON their table while there were eating. Server just killed it and asked the party if they wanted to switch tables. The tables nearby including us were completely shocked and the manager or server didnt address the roach issue.. even though it caused an entire commotion in the restaurant. Then, the same girls were brought a new bowl of greens and found a snail in it. We were truly shocked and grossed out so my friend and I finished our meat and left immediately. We thought we would have been offered a discount or something since we witnessed these incidents but nope, we paid full price and got no apology from management. We came here because my wife was really craving their shabu (she likes their specific tom yum soup). When we arrived, the employee (Korean? guy with wavy hair) already seemed unenthusiastic and unwelcoming about serving our party, which put us off. (The service from the other two employees was great, but the first guy's attitude was just poor.) He also said there were a bunch of fruit flies in the main dining room (why didn't they close down?). Despite this, my wife still REALLY wanted to stay, so we stayed. While we were waiting for our food, we saw a cockroach crawling up the wall. GROSS. The health inspector really needs to visit this place more often. Meat was good, sauce was good, soup was fine. Around 9pm, they started cleaning all around the restaurant so they could close by 9:30pm. We could smell the strong cleaner smells all around us while we were eating and it was so off putting. There's literally 7 of us (my party included), granted it started off relatively full house, but no one checked our table after the initial drop off for our first round. We had Ayce and i don't expect someone to be on our shoulders 24/7, but waiting 10 min for at least a piece of paper to be picked up? I had to raise our sheet and it STILLLL took 3-5minutes as if it's not a small restaurant. Then we let our server know about the service and she goes "sometimes we get busy." Look at the video, look busy to you? I used to work at Gen so I know how a restaurant works, time management, and how to give good customer service. We also are a family of nurses so we know exactly how servicing others should be especially when it comes to work being done in a timely manner. Listen... I'm in the minority for shabu overall. I feel like it's too much work and I left feeling EXHAUSTED. Plus we tipped. Lol! The rule is, if one person orders AYCE (all you can eat), the entire table must order AYCE. So AYCE it is. I think the order in which the food came out threw us off. This was our first time here and in a long time overall for shabu so we were confused little birds who didn't know any better. They offer The vegetables came out first. In they go into the broth. Then the noodles, I ordered ramen. It took a while for the meat and rice to come out so my veggies and ramen were just bathing in the miso and bone broth for way too long. I didn't have anywhere to put them because the rice bowl came out last. Our server was nice, he was super busy the entire time so was difficult to attend to all tables, all the time. We made sure to ask for things when he rounded but man were we thirsty from the salty broth and sauces! Our drinks/water kept running low. Everything I tried was good, on the salty side. The dipping sauces were the star of the show! I especially liked the peanut one that apparently contains no peanuts. Lol. The steam from the hot pot kept blowing in our faces, I think that's normal. But it got hot. It was not as relaxing, it was more like I picked up a shift at work. This wouldn't be my first choice for dinner, but I can see why it would be for most. This is my favorite shabu place because the broths are so good !! I love the spicy miso broth level 2. I have tried the level 3 and it is a bit too spicy for me but still edible ! The miso broth here has more flavor than other places I've been to. I recently tried the pork bone broth and that is DELICIOUS too!! I tried it spicy level two and that was pretty good! I came here for a birthday with my friends and Tommy and Jace were very nice and helpful throughout our dining experience. They have different types of veggies are available and are all pretty good! Came here to eat for ayce dinner on a cold night around 530pm and it was pretty empty with only 3 tables, so that should tell you something. Quality and service has gone down here. I used to love this place before they became ayce. The food comes out so slowly and have us sitting here for 10 minutes with NO FOOD on our table. I have never been to an ayce restaurant where I'm currently sitting here with enough time to write this review with no food on our table. They also miss things but would mark off it off on the paper. Our server was nice but she went back to our tables twice to ask "did I forget anyone's rice?" No she did not, but she did forget about the fish ball with roe I asked for and my friend's order of taro fries that she never received for her table. Mind you they are fully staffed and it is not even busy for a Sunday night. Go eat shabu elsewhere with better service and get your money's worth!!!!! read more

This place is a reminder on why I usually avoid going to restaurants as much as possible. In any restaurant, I expect to be ignored and what not if I'm going by myself. However, I came with a party of three. THREE people and that's still not enough tip money to be treated well?! We were seated at the counter as they claimed to not have any tables even though there were two. It really wasn't as busy as you'd expect on a Saturday. No wait time at all. There also wasn't any wait-list I could find so I doubt the tables were being held for reservations. For an experience like this, people want to be facing each other. After deciding to go get their premium AYCE option, menus were quickly taken away. We weren't asked if we wanted any drinks. I had to ask later to order some and our server looked really inconvenienced by that. I had to pull up their menu on my phone to help my parents pick their drinks. Our servers also had a shift change. Second server was a lot better but policy kind of hampered that for me. More on that later. At all other restaurants I've been to, we're usually informed when this happens but not a word. I don't even know their names as they never introduced themselves either. The food is as good as it gets for an AYCE hot pot. I liked that we were given a form for our order to fill-out to prevent mistakes. The only issue foodwise, was the beef balls. They seemed to be expired so I had to spit that out. I wanted to let someone know so that another customer wouldn't tear them another a-hole over it but of course we weren't checked on enough for me to provide the feedback. But she was sure quick to try to give us our check. I noticed her sheepishly walking that back quickly with it when we weren't finished yet. The last kick in the teeth for me is that we were actually going to be given a leftovers charge. This is the first time in all of my many AYCE experiences where a restaurant actually enforced that. I personally think we had a reasonable amount of leftovers and thought this was absurd. It was just some pork belly, small bowl of edamame and some raw shrimp. We opted to get a $10 to-go box instead of getting the real value weighed and charged accordingly. So.. Premium pricing for three, having to tip and now a $10 frivolous charge tacked on. I'm obviously not coming back. This restaurant is really stingy. Stingy with their tables and charging for an expected amount of leftovers. The servers very obviously don't want people around and they employ only one server on a Saturday. Our servers were also on their personal phones too much and can't wait to get you out of there! I don't expect someone doing an honest day of work to sing and dance or act like my friend for their tips. I just don't think it's unreasonable to expect a more welcoming vibe when eating out at a place like this. My experience here reminds me on how we all claim to hate "Karens" but deep down wish we had one as a friend so they can pop off on businesses for us when they deserve it. You might think I must've brought a lot of this on myself with the amount of issues I had but I was taken aback and stunned into silence my entire stay here.
