I've known about Katz for about 15-20 years but never visited until this past weekend. When I got word that this was where we would be meeting for lunch, I was ecstatic! I love sandwiches and this was my opportunity to try something new! I had to look over the menu about a week in advance to do a process of elimination (lol) because there is so much to choose from besides sandwiches. Since I've never tasted corned beef or Russian dressing, I chose to get the Reuben; great choice! After taking everyone's order on his (point of sale) pos, we received our food with no problems. I say pos because he typed the orders in; nothing from just pure memory. We were a party of 6 and I guess it was too much for our waiter to handle. I guess our waiter was moving too slow because another server had to step in to clear the table and ask if we needed more to drink or anything else. Thanks to her for helping! Here's why I gave only 3 stars... It wasn't until it was time for our checks to come that the real issues started. We were asked not once but two separate times by our initial server what we each ordered! The second time him asking, we all just looked around at each other and determined that he must be new. If that wasn't enough, our bill STILL came to the table wrong! Three of us were charged for extra drinks and food. Come to find out, our waiter was new and because the manager knew he was falling short, she stepped in to make sure everything was accurate and finished where he left off. I'm not sure how many days our waiter had been trained prior to being put out on the floor on his own so I can't fault him nor management. This location is a disgrace and absolutely tarnishes Katz's quality reputation. Clearly grossly mismanaged, customer service is awful and worse the portion sizes. Go to the Westheimer or Woodlands locations you'll get a sandwich that literally takes two people to finish it. Here they're beyond chintzy and greedy, as if corned beef or pastrami are now as valuable as gold. $18 will net you approximately the same amount of meat as a 6 inch subway at 3x the price. The waiter "Alexis" failed to attend our table to provide proper service. She was rude at times and gave an attitude when I tried to get her attention. I hate to write this kind of review. This trip to Katz's was disappointing. I got the breakfast plate with scrambled eggs, jalapeno and cheddar sausage and potato pancakes. It also came with a choice of bread. The eggs were bland and the potato pancakes were not good at all. I think it was the seasoning. If I was going to guess I would say they had too much onion powder. The sausage was good, not spectacular but good. I got the sourdough toast and it was just okay. The service was not the best but certainly not the worst. Everyone was friendly. One good thing was the restaurant itself is just beautiful and the rear parking was great. I liked that a staff person opened the door. Katz had a very hip fresh and inviting atmosphere however. Who ever is cooking needs to stay out of the kitchen. We ordered a sandwich and decided that instead we would get the chicken fried chicken it arrives with almost no mashed potato's to be spoken of the manager insisted that it was correct in fact she said it's 4oz. The Mac n cheese was literally cold and to top it off the rest of our mashed potatoes were under the topping of Mac n cheese our server did immediately have the cook replace those two items however come on who puts Mac n cheese with mashed potatoes is that was some kind of revenge then they don't need to cook in restaurants. I will say i was at first a fan of Katz's however every visit brings more and more disappointment and the food quality keeps getting worse as well. Came here on a Tuesday night at about 6:30pm and there was plenty of parking and seating. It got a little more full by the time we left around 7:30. The inside decor looks brand new and very nice. The service was quick and kind. I ordered a coke (which I discovered was $3.50) and the hot Nashville chicken sandwich. The sandwich was pretty big, not too spicy, and comes with a whole pickle which was great. The fries were okay. To me, its the perfect place to visit late at night, when you need some grub, and want to do better than an I-hop, or a Waffle House (yuck). I've been to the original location, but this location in the Heights is pretty nice in my opinion. There is ample parking, and the restaurant is very spacious with tons of booths (my go-to seating spot at any restaurant). It was late as heck on a weekday, and the staff was descent. Nothing out of the ordinary, but what do you expect in the middle of the night? We wanted to go light, so we ordered a broccoli cheese soup, an order of the Texas Pecan Hummus/Lemon Whipped Feta Dip(that comes with bagel chips), and a Topo Chico to top it all off. I'm what you would call a hummus connoisseur, love me some mashed garbanzos! It was a unique take on the dish, mixed in with some feta dip. I didn't really care for the Bagel Chips, and would have much preferred some pita bread, but beggars can't be choosers. The soup was delicious, and hit the spot on a cold night. Overall the meal was descent, prices here are outrageous though, you can easily spend over 20 bucks on nonsense. However, you aren't here to save a buck. You are here to treat yourself to a place late at night, that is more descent than all the other 24 hour spots Houston has to offer. This location is stunning! I was so shocked by the interior when we arrived, compared to other locations I've been to it's incredible. The staff was extremely sweet even though it was 1 am, and our waiter Curtis was awesome. Unfortunately they were out of chicken at the time, so instead of chicken and waffles I opted out for the waffle sandwich with cheese and it was awesome. It's nothing crazy, but if you're craving breakfast - it hit the spot. The fries that it comes with was way too salty for my liking, but would be incredible if they weren't so salty. The fried pickles are a classic, they're perfectly crispy and the pickle is just perfect. I would definitely come here again, and next time I'm definitely going to get a drink. This was such a cute little place to go late at night , they have in and outside seating. They have a variety of different types of food you could get , their drinks were pretty good . We ended up getting their chicken and waffles and their 1/2 burger . Let's start w the chicken and waffles since that was my meal ... the chicken is too big to cook properly, it's a good serving size but to deep fry a whole chicken breast isn't the best idea . It definitely is missing flavor and my chicken was undercooked, I could see the wet batter on my chicken , I took a couple bites of it because I already knew it was going to make me sick (which it did ; i ended up throwing up as soon as I got home and it was the chicken and undercooked batter) me personally i would cut the breast in smaller pieces for it to evenly cook but over it all it wasn't bad but just undercooked. The waffles on the other hand were super tasty and sweet and just everything I could wish a waffle tasted like , will definitely come back for there waffles and syrup . The burger was really tasty, it had good taste , just wish it was a lil bit bigger , very good smoky taste , it was definitely better than the chicken . The onion rings were super tasty as well , well done crispy , just wish they would come w ranch or something. The service over all was amazing, our waitress was very kind and very attentive. I have been to Katz's Deli twice recently. Once after a friend's birthday party for a very late dinner (or early breakfast) and once for lunch. Open 24 hours, you can get your Katz fix at any time of the day or night. Located off of Westheimer, they are also one of the few establishments in the area that has a large parking lot which is also a plus. Like most diners, they have a large menu. We're talking breakfast items, sandwiches, and much, much more. And as a Jewish deli, you also have a good deal of Jewish items on the menu like pastrami and blintzes. Like the food menu, there's a long list of beverages, including adult beverages. When I stopped by around lunch most recently, I was on a liquid diet and only had a cocktail. The food is serviceable, though not outstanding. And if I'm looking for Jewish food, Kenny & Ziggy's is my first choice. But, if you're looking for a late night meal after a night out on the town, Kat'z Deli makes for a fine choice. read more

The service seemed attentive and friendly. I was a little skeptical when the patty melt came with lettuce and tomato as well as American cheese. It was surprisingly good. It was more like a burger on rye bread with the option to add sauteed onions. Definitely add the onions, they're delicious. So gotta love Katz. Always open and such a variety of things to eat. So they had some new items they were promoting and we tried the loaded toast and the frittata with pancakes as entrees. They were a 2.7 out of five not bad but middle of the road. The garlic bread over powered the toast and would have just preferred fresh sautéed spinach over the creamed spinach for the frittata. Still worth trying and liked the fresh take. We did remix our buffalo wings with lemon pepper dust. That was tasty. It added a lil zing. I had the spicy sombrero drink 4/5 and he had the cherry limeade and key lime martini I think that is what it is called. Both a 2/5. Limeade needed soda or sprite to bring it together and the key lime was just too creamy boozy and less citrusy. Now again we don't waste liquor so we really appreciated the nice pours. Katz's Deli has a great outdoor space. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor space is super family friendly with lots of activities. The food is delicious, I loved my French Dip. Just enough cheese and plenty of roast beef. If you like spicy you should add the jalapeño cheese to your sandwich. Their sweet potato fries seemed a little under done but the flavor was great. There were 4 other families outside with us, two had already finished eating, but our service was pretty slow. We waited for our meal for 20 minutes.
