The site of day 4's lunch, Kauai Island Brewing in the Port Allen area of Eleele is the original location of the popular microbrewery based in the island of Kauai. My wife and I specifically came to the area to sample their beers and try their food, and found the beer to good/great while the food was OK. It opens at 11 on weekdays, and we arrived soon after, so found street parking easily. We were some of the first customers, and our choice of inside seating. The building is two stories, with the upstairs being used as an arcade (classic 80's pinball machines). The large bar is the center of the downstairs, and they sell shop memorabilia as well. Tried a 4 sampler flight (no discount for flight, just sum of the 5 oz beers chosen). Their most popular is the Lilikoi, which we had just tried at a restaurant a couple days before, so we skipped that. Instead we got: Chupa lager (Mexican cerveza which was refreshing), Wheat (which was my least favorite...kinda flat/limp with little flavor), Alaka'I Stout (my favorite, creamy and almost chocolatey), and a Sour with calamansi (which my wife liked the best, I thought it tasted like a shandy). As for food, we got two entrees. My wife got the Kalua Pork Sandwich ($22): pretty much all pulled pork sandwiches are called Kalua in Hawaii, no matter how it is made. That being said, this version was OK with the fries being very good (similar to Five Guys fries, fried in peanut oil maybe). I had my favorite: Loco Moco ($22) which was well prepared, and the white rice was good. But the beef patty was mediocre (tasted like a standard preformed food service patty from frozen...it wouldn't have stood out in a burger). The one egg was cooked well and I really liked the homemade gravy. There is a 3% credit card surcharge, and Toast is the payment processor.

Nice brewery with full bar and what looks wonderful food. The squeeze and I split an order of pork and shrimp lumpia. Great job on those. I chose the NaPali pale ale to drink. This beer is malty, love it! Got a 32oz crowler to take back to the mainland. Brewery decals were $1 a pop, should be free, especially when I buy beer and food. Would have been five stars if they were free. Chris did a great job as our beertender.

I really wish our experience would have been different. We visited after a whale watching tour so we were hungry. We did visit at about 6pm and were seated immediately but we were only a party of 2. This place is right across the street from all the boat tour companies so that was nice but besides that, meh! The lumpia had some weird, fatty hard pieces of pork. The fish was interesting, it was more of a chicken texture than fish. Fish was also dry and needed lots of lemon and tartar sauce to help it go down. The onion rings and lilikoi beer were the only things we truly enjoyed.

Food: 3/5 Food was alright, fish and chips were good, nice and meaty fish with tar tar sauce! The loco moco with kalua pork sounded different so, I thought I would give it a try, but flavor was not quite there and pork was dry. Service: 4/5 Service was alright too, place does get busy with people. Ambiance: 4/5 Nice place for a brewery, was exploring the area so we came to check this brewery out

Like this place a lot. Theres a strip of area with some restaurants near the pier for boat tours. We checked it out because we saw some of the reviews here. Ended up loving the food and I wish I could come back and try lots more especially their beers! When we were coming back from the boat tour, one of guides said that she didn't even like beers and she loved the different type of beers here. I had the poke bowl and love the freshness of the fish. My husband had the fish tacos and they were really good too! If we're back on Kauai, we wanna come back here and get our beer on!

This brewery is located next to Port Allen and has a decent size patio. They offer indoor and outdoor seating. The service was very friendly and kept up with our orders. We can here for happy hour and got lots of good appetizers and drink specials. The beer here is fantastic and very fresh. It's a great price during happy hour. The appetizers were very good and filling. After you go on a sail with Captain Andy's or if you are in the area, we recommend you stop by this place for some great comfort food and awesome beer. The brewery has an extensive stock of Kauai Brewing Company shirts in different colors and styles. We loved it all.

The crab cake appetizer was perfectly seasoned. The macaroni salad was a perfect compliment for a quick late morning snack. John T did an excellent job as server.

My favorite brewery on the Kauai, the beer was great and so was the service and food. We decided to stop for a beer and a t-shirt at Kauai Island Brewing. The place is crowded, but there was seating available so we decided to have dinner. I ordered the Seared Ahi Salad and my guy got the Fish & Chips. We both ordered different beers so we could try them. My daughter absolutely loved the fun vibe of the place and French fries. Our waitress was super nice and was busting around keeping all the tables happy. The shirt I bought my BF is probably one of my favorites because of the logo and design. I kept asking to go back all week, as it was a place we all enjoyed - but we had places to explore and food to try.

Stopped by here to grab a bite to eat after going on a very adventurous Napali Coast Catamaran Tour. There was live music, which was a nice treat. The food was very tasty and was priced reasonably. Service was good, and we were glad we stopped here. Given the location, this is a great place after doing an excursion. It may also be worth the drive out here if you are looking for a bite to eat, as it is a fun place. If there's music, you should definitely make the drive out here.

Great little Bar & Grill right by the boat tours. We stopped for a beer and also ordered the crab cakes. They were a wonderful snack to go along with the beers. Bartender and servers were all very friendly. We will definitely come back here next trip.

Stopped out of convenience but the food was just ok. Nothing special or great. Ahi bowl was pretty good but the rest was just so-so. Nice kids menu. But go elsewhere if you can! There are better restaurants out there

In town for the day simply to show me an investment property my family and I might be interested in the very near future, before she departed she had to pick up an order of pies to bring back to her family. Of course, I came along for the ride because I liked pie, but I was curious how good they were if she was willing to fly several of them in her carry-on. Founded by Sandy in October 2009, she quickly adjusted her business model from doing six community events a week to her first retail location in Lihue in 2011. The business continued to grow that led to a second location this time in Kalaheo in 2014. Fast-forward to today, the Kalaheo store is the only one standing, and she has cultivated a strong following both near and far of pie fans and the continued support of the local community. Did I choose the right slice for my first time here!? PURCHASE(S) Mango Lilikoi Pie Slice ($8.50): Their most popular pie, they had me at mango! Filled with plump juicy mangoes combined with the just right amount of lilikoi (passionfruit) and topped with a sugar crust. Juicy sweetness burst in every bite, and I was in pure heaven! https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=120&select=-IUMWv6HB5wpv9AiQ-Y_bg Macadamia Nut Pie Slice ($8.50): This time, they had me at macadamia! Made with a ton of island macadamia nuts, roasted to a perfect golden brown combined with butter, eggs, sugar, and fresh spices for a nutty tropical sensation, this pie reminded me of a pecan pie but so much better! It was heavy, thick, and required a cold glass of milk to perfectly pair it with. I went nuts for this pie! https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=120&select=JfthjT1sMLgeXqbfMPGzhA To-Go Containers ($0.50 x2): For my dessert, I've never been charged this before, but I understood businesses needed to cut/pass along costs as much as possible - c'est la vie. Credit Card Surcharge 3.00% ($0.57): Another pass-along fee that has become more prevalent - oh well. SERVICE I was warmly greeted by a young woman behind the counter who gave me time to review the menu while she offered recommendations. Once I ordered, my items were quickly packed and ready to go - mahalo! PARKING (FREE): We were lucky to grab one of the five small spots in front of their shop (it was very difficult to back out due to the heavily-trafficked thoroughfare). OVERALL The Right Slice offered magical pies both savory and sweet (I must return to try a savory one!) all made from scratch and with a ton of love. The care and pride was tasted in each incredible bite, and I wished I had one to bring back with me after I ate each slice back at the resort. Everything tasted phenomenal, the prices may've been a tad high (but well worth it!), and the service was calming and straightforward. Plus, I always loved to try and support small local mom & pop businesses. I found complete value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $19.00 BEFORE any discounts, points usage, and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 5.0 STARS

I have an Aunty who used to live in Hanapepe so it's already close to my heart. Then throw in amazing local businesses and vendors and well I'm spending hundreds of dollars to fly over from O'ahu so I don't miss the events. Most recently I flew over to say goodbye to MachineMachine, the owner Shannon was set up in a building that was repurposed from an automotive shop to a retail space. Sadly she moved to a warehouse in Lawai. So she's no longer participating in the Hanapepe Art Walk. I've read that there's a lady who sets up a Haku (head lei) table and accepts donations only. Sadly I've never been there when she's there. I noticed some of the storefronts like Little Fish were closed on this trip. I was told that other towns like Kilauea are also doing Friday events and some vendors don't want to travel to the other side of the island anymore. But I noticed an entire new retail space, that's exciting! Regardless, there's plenty to eat! Persian food, Puerto Rican, Hawaiian BBQ, Thai, and the pie stand is to die for. Make sure you come hungry! Behind the spice store there's an old bridge, make sure you check it out. Also there's an interesting space next to the post office the sign marks the pathway "Storybook", two chairs were set up on a stage. But there was no one in sight. Say hi to G and have lunch there on their front porch!…read more=== We had seen Warehouse 3540 in Lawai on our trips to West Kauai, and after stopping there (also a really great stop but that's another review) walked back to Lawai Market. Super glad we did! Lawai Market has tons of house-made baked goods, a kicking deli section, incredible bread, smoothies, local goods (mostly food kinds), interesting alcohol/spirits, just tons of fun stuff. Counter folks were super friendly, G was especially friendly and helpful, offering recommendations, helping us out, talking story with us, and making us feel at home. Specific thoughts: ++ House-made s'mores bar. Huge portion. Five of us shared one. Topped with toasted marshmallow, then fudge-y brownie, then this incredible crust which seemed like graham cracker shortbread - never had a crust like that. Almost impossible to cut through because it's so wonderfully thick. It literally stays on the knife you use to saw through it. But oh so good. Each bite lasts a long time as you make your way through the layers. + They had more than a dozen other pastries, again, all house-made fresh every day. G says the tres leches cake (beautiful and floating in the cream mixture) and the brownie parfaits are crowd favs. ++ Curried chicken salad. Supreme comfort food but with strong flavors of curry (they don't mess around), raisins, and all sorts of other textures. FILLING - our group of five couldn't eat more than half of the small container and we loved it. ++ Egg salad. Punchier than most egg salads with lots of strong dill. Tended to like the chicken salad more but dug into this when I needed a break from the curry. + Spicy poke. Good and fresh. Personally like the spicy poke from The Musubi Truck better, but this was still solid. Always love the creaminess if the aioli. + Purple power smoothie. You can tell there's something healthy in there - not like your normal straight up sweet smoothie. (I think it's kale.) But this really grew on me. ++ Focaccia. Oh man. Salt crystals on top, great texture to the bread. Our group are bread connoisseurs and they loved this. We went back for a second loaf because we devoured the first one. ++ They have small sizes of everything in their deli which makes getting a selection of a bunch of things for your group easy. We literally sat out there and walked back into the store three or four times to browse and get more items. And walked out with more and more each time. Sitting on their front porch is great too. Yes, the main road goes right by there but lush trees and Kauai greenery abounds on the other side of the road which makes the whole space awesome to hang in. Make this stop - you won't regret it.
