It was a little further of a drive but the views were well worth it. Shenanigan's is currently undergoing a renovation, so your order is taken at the rear of the restaurant at a service window. A number is given and food is brought to your table. It's a bus-your-own-table system there so please consider that. If you need anything at all, plan on getting it yourself. The views of the beach at Barking Sands is pretty epic and the nice sea-breeze cools down the sometimes oppressive heat-humidity combo. If on base at PMRF, this is your spot to eat! read more

Shenanigans is a great place to unwind with some really great appetizers and entree's especially if you are on a budget or just want to chill. Absolutely one of the best views in the furthest western states of America. The sunset was nice cold one just sets the right Aloha mood. When traveling with my retired Air Force in-laws, we have the luxury of getting access to places like this. The setting is stellar- right on the deserted beach. The food is pretty basic but it's really good. I had the fantastic Anahola burger and a nice cold beer. A perfect lunch at a very reasonable price. Such a great outing! read more

I'm Irish so I saw Shenanigans and put in the address to go enjoy lunch. What they don't say on the YELP is you have to have ID to get on the Navy base in order to eat here!!!! I ordered a cheeseburger (well done) with French fries and a side of ranch dressing. What I got was a cheeseburger cooked medium (medium rare in the very middle) and no ranch dressing. Needless to say, I am pretty disappointed because the first time I ate this burger it was cooked perfectly; my food has definitely not been the same since that one day. The only good thing about this place was the view ! We arrived on a Friday and were so hungry for lunch.The menu was adorable it had a funny chicken joke and it was either pay and order your food or pay and buffet style. I had a burger that day and I don't like much red in my meat and the fact that it wasn't well cooked was enough for me not to eat it. The waffle fries were not my favorite. Military ID required. Don't waste your time driving out only to learn that government issued drivers license isn't good enough. Can't speak to the views and ambiance as we weren't allowed through the gate, but it would have been nice if someone would have answered the phone and clarified the ID situation. Right before the pandemic the hubs and I took a lil trip to Kauai. The restaurant is located on a military base in barking sands so military ID is required. If auntie Nadine reads this then we can both laugh at what happened at Bellows lol. I believe barking sands is now requiring paperwork to your car rental in addition to ID. Due to Covid the bar is closed at Shenanigans, but they are offering takeout service. When precautionary measures start to ease up, and the restaurant opens, its a great place to view the whales(seasonal). The sunsets are insane and the food is very very good;) We ate at the bar when it was opened. The hubs and I ordered the Kauai garlic peel off shrimp without the head *upon request which was our appetizer. The shrimp was sweet, thick, fresh, garlicky, and delicious. Next, was wings which are one of my favorite foods to order. It's usually best with a side of beer;) The wings were deep fried perfectly making it crispy and meaty. Buffalo sauce was ordered on the side to limit the sogginess. The hubs had the rib-eye steak and oh my gosh.... it cut and melted in my mouth like butter. So ono!!! It was seasoned well, and was accompanied with vegetable medley. Overall great dinner experience!!! Just past Waimea, on PMRF, there's a quaint little place called Shenanigan's. We went on our last evening in Kaua'i for the SHRIMP BOIL special. The price was $38 for a full order. It was literally full shrimp (head to toes) in a bag. There were other food in the bag like, potatoes, corn on the cob, and Portuguese sausage. Two bread rolls and dipping sauce came with. It was delicious. For ambiance, you can't beat the water from beach view. As for the Da' Pizza, don't bother ordering it unless you have the expectations of a 12 year old. Also, you are in Hawaii, order something local! Crust is flat and cheese is low quality, but hey, I am on an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. We waited over 30 minutes to get waited on. Then went to the bar to ask if we needed to order at the bar or online. The bartender snapped at me saying she was working so hard she was sweating and I needed to wait! So went back to our table and sat down because there is no where else to eat here. Finally my spouse went to the bar and got us a drink. Then we ordered online for dinner. Our dinner took over an hour. The entire time we were there, there was only 10 tables with people. The family behind us said they had been there over two hours with no food! When our food arrived one of the three waitresses asked if everything was ok. It was not. We love Shenanigans. Best priced place to have a drink or dinner and the outdoor deck makes it the best place to watch sunsets on the island! The service is always friendly although it can take time to get food so go when you have time to enjoy watching the sun setting and the sea. The view at sunset and waitress deserved 4 stars but I had to give the food only 2 stars. Fish and chips were crazy greasy and the fish was definitely frozen. Jalapeño poppers were good but again, definitely frozen. Also. I would recommend that once the sun sets, move indoors. It became a serious bug fest and most folks don't enjoy flying critters in their hair, crawling on my neck and landing in my plate... Other than that it was great. Not sure why to review a place on a restricted base that is not available to the public, but after reading some of the crappy reviews below, I'll put in my 2 cents. Our extended family of 12 spent a week at the cottages on base, and this was our go to place. We probably had 5 dinners during our stay and no complaints from any of our crew. Kids loved the pizza and chicken strips. Adults loved the other menu items except for the picky Greek in-law who complained about the fish being too dry. I told him this wasn't the Ritz. He did like the poke though. Mostly standard food fare, but the experience was unforgettable with spectacular sunsets and ocean/island views. And the prices can't be beat anywhere else in Kauai. If you have a military ID, you need to stop by if you are on the remote west side of the island. You won't regret it. read more

Located in the Pacific Missile Range Facility. After 09/11, the security is high to enter the Facility. If you are connected to the military, or traveling with those, this is the place to eat while you are staying the area. We had two dinners and unexpectedly enjoyed all of it.
