She has the calmest demeanor all while paying such close attention to detain and just nailing it each and every time. Whether you go simple or more ornate, she's such a talented person. To top it off, you get to watch a chic flick all while getting a superb nail service. I love a quiet spirit and calmness without all the chatter and smells of busier salons. Aco did my nails. For $80+ I expect my nails to have BASIC service done well like taking care of my cuticles. My cuticles were either not cut or cut sloppily. I realized this after checking photos from their Instagram where the nails have cut cuticles. I then reached out to Mika, who apologized and said that cuticles should have been cut. She asked me to reach out to Aco. I then msged Aco with the pictures and asking for help. without apologies. She simple asked: "What happened to your nails? How many finger you need to fix?" Can't she tell that the cuticles look sloppy? She should know what is wrong. Instead, she put it on me by asking me to let her know how many finders to fix. The best quality Japanese gel mani! I booked an appointment with Mika a few days before my wedding. It has been two weeks since my mani, and my nails still look amazing! I wanted a simple yet elegant ombré. I showed Mika a few examples and selected the colors. She gave me pointers and helped me finalize the two colors and ended up adding a third because the color I chose was a little too light. I also added an extension, as advised by Mika because one of my nails was shorter than the others. The extension looks like my real nails and when I told friends it was fake, they were shocked. Came in for a pedicure as a walk in. I hate pedicures and cringed all the way through it. Not because of the service, but because I hate having my feed touched. I was expecting them to take a lot more off the heels with the more robust cheese grater looking thing. Instead, they used a rough brush that didn't take much off. The woman that was doing the service looked at my heels when she was done with the rough brush and clearly saw there was still quite a bit that needed to come off but didn't follow through. The towels are ridiculously hot that they put around your feet. I didn't do fancy gel polish, I opted for the regular polish because the gel has to be ground off. Aco is my girl! She does a great job. She is fast, friendly and thorough. Don't mistake this place for a spa, you don't get a massage, and no scrub. This place is pure artwork. Your cuticles will get trimmed but don't expect to soak your hands in water. I normally spend an hour and it's mostly design and maintenance. I have to admit my nails are much healthier and longer than ever before. And i always always get compliments on my designs. It's easy to assume you're in the wrong place when you arrive because it is an office building, not a retail store front. She has a little private studio -YESSSSS NO MORE DEALING WITH OTHET ANNOYING CLIENTS GETTING THEIR NAILS DONE AT THE SAME TIME HAHA- it's quiet, adorable, and located in the same office as Patty with Lashury so I got two beauty apts done at the same time. I did gel with extensions, and custom design. I found a picture on Yelp that I loved, so I just sent that to my nail artist via texting. Cal gel $45 Extensions $75 Designs $6 and up. My nail set cost ~$105. Reason for 4 stars: For booking an appointment, they will ask for your credit card number, which seems odd and uncomfortable. I personally did not feel comfortable sharing any confidential information via phone call or texting. So, I hd to walk in and book it in person. You can only book an appointment either via phone or in person. I used to go to a nail salon often similar to this one. Japanese nail salon called, Cync Nails. They never asked me for my credit card number when booking a reservation. However, I do understand that they will have to charge you for last minute cancellations ($20). Just for clarification, they will not force you to provide your credit card number! They will recommend a non-reserved walk-in. If you arrive on the day of without a reservation, you may or may not get your nails done. It's only depending on the nail artist's availability. I rather have paid a deposit via online instead of going through all of this. Despite the odd and inconvenient booking procedure, I still love their service. Hands down the best nails I've ever had. I'm writing this review a little more than 3 weeks after my appointment and my nails still don't have a single imperfection. The nail boutique itself is in a corporate park near John Wayne airport. There are only two nail technicians so they each have their own little office in the suite. Aco is a true artist and was extremely sweet and detailed when working on my nails and I really appreciated her dedication to the craft. She also had a good assortment of girly movies for her clients to watch during their service; I got to watch 27 dresses and a little bit of mean girls. The overall cost of the service was a lot more than what I would normally pay but honestly, with the amount the detail she put into my nails, the cost was reasonable (you get what you pay for in the most positive sense.) it's important to note that it is not a full manicure, so don't expect a soak, or lotiony hand massage. Even still, Ive gotten SO many compliments on my nails so it was still very well worth it. I will definitely be coming back for my next special occasion and be recommending them to all of my friends. She has been my nail artist for about ten years- back when she was with atlas, when she opened her shop in Tustin, and now she has opened up this beautiful boutique salon in Newport! First, she asked me too many questions, it's one of the most strict and complicated making an appointment at a nail shop!!! "What is on your nail now?(what does it matter?) Gel or extension? (Can I decide it when I'm there?) How many designs are you getting? (Do I have to be precise how many fingers I'd like to get them designed before making an appointment??) What is your credit card number? (Hello~ my card number for what?) Card number for the first time customers to charge $25 per cancelation without calling 24 hrs ahead of the appointed time.(Ok, I can understand...here you go) The security code in the back as well please?(Excuse me? The security code as well? Hmmm, I'm NOT comfortable.)" So I was gonna ask her that if I could get a written confirmation after got my nails done to promise they wouldn't keep my credit card information. But then BEFORE I even had a chance to ask her, she said, "If you are not comfortable giving me that information you don't have to. It's just a store policy since first time customers canceled appointments without calling us before hand. If you don't like it, you don't have to come to our shop. We don't force you....Blah blah blah~" What the...?!?! Don't you have to listen to your customer first, then react? I felt so insulted as soon as I heard "you don't have to come" right before I was gonna ask her for a confirmation to protect my financial information. I asked her if she had the right to refuse a customer who is not comfortable giving her credit card information before even getting any services done, then she said "I didn't refuse you." #&$^^@@*%%(!!! This Japanese girl has obviously no professional business phone manner. Asking for a new unknown customer's credit card information is a sensitive issue, she should learn dealing with the first time customers with an appropriate manner, also the store has to adjust the policy to consider customer's point of view as well, not protecting their business only. I am all about my nails, and they have to look good at all times. I used to go to those neighborhood nail salons, but I have always had bad experiences with them. Whether they talk bad about you in a different language or they keep trying to sell you ugly flowers that just look tacky. Last month Mika and I hit our 2 year nail anniversary!!! She has been doing my nails for the past two glorious years. She is my nail guru. When I met her she said her dream was to own her own salon. And she did it!!!! I am so proud of her!! If it werent for her my claws would be disgusting. Any ways back to my always flawless nails. I either bring in a picture or an idea and she turn my paws into a masterpiece. I go to her for both Cal Gel and Acrylics. She does awesome hand- painted designs as well as 3-D. She had done many 3-D designs for me. Examples: Hello Kitty, Christmas, Valentine's Day, Bows, and those are just a few. Also Mika does not have her own agenda, like many other nail technicians i have gone to. When I would go to other salons, the technician would just go off and do their own thing. However, Mika does exactly what you want. She is awesome!!! If you go see her, she will never disappoint. Yay! Love the new location! Kawaii Nails is AMAZING and their Newport Beach location is incredible. Every nail artist has their own private room so you can really relax. The salon is so nicely decorated and there are little personal touches everywhere, so cute and warm feeling. Mika has been my nail artist since before she opened Kawaii, so for over 5 years I have trusted her and she has never let me down. Mika is very fast and super talented, you should see the way she handles a tiny paint brush to make all of your nail art dreams come true! Here is an important run down for new people: -Mika and the girls have been doing Japanese style gel nails since before it became popular here in the U.S., they use the best quality products and real gel, not BS "gel polish" -Unlike with other gel salons: the work here will not be lumpy/bumpy, it should never hurt! (I have painful experiences at other salons), they will always be efficient and quick (some salons take over an hour to remove old gel!) but always with a high attention to detail! -Their prices start at around $45 and go up from there -Your gel nails will last you for about 3-4 weeks with no lifting or chipping. I have heard some people say they don't like gel because it only lasts for 1-2 weeks, well you aren't getting quality gel. -If you want to make an appointment be prepared to be put on a waiting list or prepare and book out about 2-3 weeks ahead of when you want an appointment, they are super booked! -When making your appointment they WILL ask you numerous questions and you should be prepared to answer: whether or not you currently have anything on your nails, if you want gel or acrylic, if you need an acrylic extension, how many designs you want to do, and whether or not they are complicated. All of these questions really help them to estimate how long you will be there so they can block out the appropriate amount of time, someone getting one color vs. someone getting 10 designs are not going to take the same amount of time. -I am also pretty sure they ask for a CC over the phone for your booking in case you miss your appointment. Some people may not like it, but it is totally fair in my opinion because they have like 62k followers on Instagram and get a lot of calls and they need to know your serious or they should give your spot to someone else on the waiting list. Lastly, their prices might be a bit higher than other places but it is really a case of you get what you pay for. Even if you get a one color gel, it looks flawless vs. cheap places that will seriously screw up your natural nails. I have been coming here for several months now, and I can't ever imagine going anywhere else! The talent here just surpasses any other nail salons I've ever been to. They are all skilled Japanese nail art technicians. These are true artists who know how to do everything little design your heart desires! From hello kitty 3D art to chanel logos, to even portraits! Basically anything you want, as long as you bring in a photo, they can make it come to life for you. Photos are gonna be your best bet, because a lot of the artists are Japanese and don't speak English too well. If you ever need nail inspirations just look for them on Instagram as they post hundreds of photos on their @kawaii_nails_tustin_ca I used to only come in for Mika, but because of the scheduling and I'm really bad at pre booking, I've had to set appointments with the other artists. And honestly, they are all equally talented. So it doesn't matter who you choose to come to, as you will be pleased with the results regardless. A couple things to keep in mind. 1 that this place is expensive! They charge you for everything, which is kind of standard. They charge to remove the polish, the nails, the gel, acrylic Ect. They do charge PER design! On top of your regular gel or acrylic or regular manicure. I think each design is $6. For someone like me who usually gets 10 different designs, it can run me anywhere from $100-$150 for just my hands! Depending on if I needed to remove my old nails or not. For the regular pedicure, really basic one where they just do the color, it's about $45. But if you choose to soak your feet, and remove your callus and get lotion rubbed on your lets it's about $75 plus the designs is extra. I personally do think that the pedicure is a bit over priced, just because other salons for that price do offer more with the pedicure. But overall, I come here because they are the best, and when something is good, price doesn't matter. Also make sure you book your appointments early! As they are being booked a month in advance now! If your looking for something special and unique for your nails, this is definitely the place you wanna come to! Just be prepared to spend some cash! And you can not be in a hurry when you come here! Love the new Kawaii Nails!! I follow Mika wherever she goes...from Costa Mesa to Tustin to Newport Beach. I live in Sacramento, so YES...she's that good! I love how each artist has her own room at this new location. Mika, as well as the other artists here, are so talented & detail-oriented. You should see them with their teeny little brushes, drawing every little detail. Amazing!! If you look through my photos, all those designs are hand-painted or sculpted one by one! They are NOT stickers or decals. I see a bunch of salons trying to imitate the 3D nail art, but it's just not the same. Most of those places are "regular" nail salons doing manicures. Then, as the popularity of Japanese nails rose, everyone decided one day that they'll learn the basics of gel polish & nail art. It shows in the amateur-ish look of those clients' nails, as well as in the techniques they use to remove gel polish. Kawaii Nails clearly discloses their "Appointment Only" policy, but ppl still complain about not being accommodated when they walk in. Kawaii is always fully booked up weeks/months in advance, and there's always a waiting list. Each artist can take up to 2-3 hours on 1 client, so no one is going to be able to give you a "quick manicure." They will also ask for your credit card info if you're a "new" client. I've heard ppl complain about this, too. Well, again, this is not one of your cheap, everyday nail salons. If you don't show up, you just lost them a client that was waiting hopefully for a cancellation...and you also made the artist sit around for a couple of hours until her next appointment. If you've ever gone to an upscale or exclusive spa, salon, or restaurant, they ask for your credit info for the same reasons. I was so excited to hear that they moved closer on this side of the 55, rather than the other side, just because traffic can be a pain on the 55N at all hours of the day. The new location is located in more of an industrial area, but each nail artist has their own individual room, with a tv and table, so it definitely feels like a one-on-one vibe. Easily the best sets of acrylics I've ever gotten in my life. The artists are extremely talented and creative. Instead of ruining your nails with glue and fake tips, these artists sculpt the entire extension out of acrylic powder. Yes, it takes longer (2 hours), but the results are great, and they damage your nails a lot less. My only complaint is how expensive they are and how far in advance you have to book your appointment. I tend to get a couple of designs on my extensions, and the cost is almost always over 100. In the busy season, you may have to book your appointment a month in advance. Update as of 3/4/2014! Still great as ever. Miho has unfortunately left the salon to return to Japan, so I have been seeing Junko for my past few appointments. Not only is she incredibly sweet, but awesomely talented as well! I've been incredibly happy with my nails. During the holidays, I couldn't get in due to traveling, working, etc. I know it's awful, but I didn't get my nails done for ALMOST 7 WEEKS. Yikes!! Nevertheless, only ONE of my nails lifted off. I felt so incredibly bad for making Junko take care of my thrashed nails, but she did so without batting an eye! (Thank you Junko, you're an angel! LOL) I always see the artists trying their best to accommodate clients, whether it be a photo or a drawing or even just some vague vision they may have. I'm wondering if I happen to catch the lady that helped me on a bad day since everyone else has really nice reviews... The design is really cute and what I wanted but I'm not happy with my nails. I asked her for squared nails and slightly rounded edges instead I got nails that are all crooked and some are squares with rounded edges and some that are completely round. The sad part is that I got my nails done for my wedding! I went in on a Friday and my wedding was that following Sunday. That way my nails would look really good and freshly done on the day of. However, by Sunday my nails were already lifting and getting stuck in my hair. Considering it was my wedding weekend I definitely didn't have time to go back and get them fixed. I make the drive from riverside (45min) without one complain because I can't get the same quality anywhere else I'm a hairstylist so my hands are in a lot of water and I get hair color on them without the gel staining which is a win for me. Mica, I can't tell you enough how much I love my nails!! It's been a month, no stones have fallen out, no chips, cracks, broken nails, lifties, and most of all my white nail hasn't turned yellow like most do!!! I went to fiji on vaycay for 2 weeks, while everyone's nails were breaking - mine were still shinning and strong!! She started with acrylic to allow the nail to grow strong and fills with gel. I always get a gel manicure and sometimes add a design or two on each hand. This place is different from most nail salons because they use a hard gel and the manicure lasts up to 3 weeks for me. I even bartend part-time and the manicure stays on and does not chip off or peel off. It is kind of pricey and is $45 for a gel manicure but honestly its worth it considering that it lasts almost a month with no peeling or chipping off of the manicure. Plus the gel manicure makes my nails sturdy and it doesn't break either. That's saying a lot because my part-time job requires that I work with my hands a lot and they are constantly getting wet. I highly recommend Tina. She's super sweet and is very precise and listens to exactly what I want when it comes to the shape and color of my nails. I also have a hard time deciding between colors and she is able to help me decide by combining colors or letting me try on a couple to decide which one I want. She cut every single one of my fingers and the bleeding was so bad that after an hour I had to leave with a band aid on instead of polish! Ok here we go.... I've been looking for a good place to get my nails done for the longest time. I had my mind set on getting gel nails because I know it's less damaging to the nails. I've did my research and read many many reviews on yelp to find that perfect salon to go to. I found a salon called Atlas studio and was impressed by the pictures I saw posted. Most of the reviews were mentioning Mika. Many pictures caught my attention. I tried calling to make an appointment. That's when I learned Mika no longer works there. Back at one! I had to go back on yelp to find another salon worth going to. After extensive research, I found the name of the new salon Mika moved to. I quickly made an appointment to come in to see her. I was really excited and took snap shots of the designs I wanted Mika to apply on my nails. I spent hours going through all her nail designs and had exactly what I wanted in mind. I was very excited and anxious to try this place out. Once I pulled up and entered the salon, I was crushed. My high expectations was shattered. I was expecting a clean high class salon. Omg!!! Nothing close to that. This place was not only small, but filthy!!! They don't do one thing to sanitize their implements. Everything and I mean everything was filthy. I was on the verge of walking out but really wanted these beautiful nails that I've been drooling for. So I hung in there. I was told to sit in the back of the salon and wait. Wasn't told what I was waiting for because Mika never came out to greet me. After 15 minutes of waiting, I found out that the only girl that had a customer at the time was Mika. She gave her current client she was working on to another girl so that she can take me. When she sat me down at her station was when I noticed she didn't sanitize any of her equipments and most likely will be using insanitary implements on me. Sure enough I was right. I told her I wanted gel nails and showed her the designs I wanted. Supposedly she took pictures and uploaded them on yelp claiming they were done by her. Lies!!! I found out the hard way. I had a few broken nails so not all my nails were one length. She told me that since I had a few broken nails, she doesn't know how to extend gel nails cause the gels she uses are just colored gels ( meaning gel polish... Not real gel nails). She talked me into getting acrylics cause that's the only way she knows how to extend my 2 broken nails. I didn't want acrylics but I came in wanting beautiful looking nails. I didn't want to leave without getting nails put on so I agreed to getting acrylic nails. Boy was I disappointed! Not only she did a horrible job applying the acrylics, I had to make her fix them multiple times. She made my nails all bumpy and didn't bother filing the top to even them out. I was frustrated by that point but was trying to be patient at the same time. She then asked me what design I wanted. I showed her the picture I wanted and she walked away to gather the jewels. She came back and glued some stupid stones on that doesn't look anything like what I choose. I told her that doesn't look like what I picked. She said " sorry I don't have that." Then why the heck didn't you tell me first? That's when I thought it was weird. If she did those designs before, shouldn't she have those stones? I tried telling myself she probably just ran out. So I had to pick something else out. I showed her another picture of a design supposedly she did. Guess what? It took her 15 minutes to mimick that picture. She had to go back and forth comparing to the Picture every single details cause most likely it wasn't her job. You can tell she had no clue how to mimick the design. I then realized all the pictures that were in the picture album were cut off of magazines. None of them were real people. By that time I was totally disappointed in this so called Mika! She basically can't do the design because she's never done them before. She claims on yelp that she's done them but they're just pictures of magazine models. By the time the design was complete, I hated my nails. I didn't feel like bitching because I made her fix my nails many times to get them even. I gave up cause I knew it can't get any better. She's just not meant to do a good job. She's over rated and her expertise isn't high. I ended paying $105 for the ugly bumpy set of nails. I was embarrassed to show my family/ friends my nails because they were horrible! The worst part was 1 week later. Omg!!!!!! All my nails have lifted. Not only they've all lifted, there's a clear gel coat on top that dripped on the sides of my cuticle (hardend). Not one nail, many nails. The bumps never went away of course. So I ended up with a set of ugly, bumpy, lifting nails that isn't worth my money spent. Do yourself a favor and stay away unless you're willing to pay for ugly nails. I posted pictures of my nails. I made an appointment for gel nails and 2 accents/ designs on my finger. I arrived at 6pm and was told that i should have said i wanted designs because it was too late for any nail art. Also they ask for for cc information when making appt. Um i mentioned it clearly over the phone.i wanted gel and designs. i even asked for the prices of designs per finger. -_- the ladies were really sweet. They accommodated me and the main artist (owner?) did my nails in less than an hour. I wanted a 3d Flower on my nail. She kind of laughed when i asked if one tiny leaf was more than $6. hahah, well you never know what the hell these nail places charges. that shit adds up. it was $45 + 2 designs $6 + 15% tip. read more

I love this salon! Met the owner, Mika, at Atlas Salon and migrated to her new salon to follow her. That says something, right? Mika's work is fantastic and she's a nice lady. I get the Calgel (Japanese brand, not to be confused with gel brands like OPI that lift right off my nails the same week) done and it is the best! I have tried acrylics, silks, "regular" gel nails, etc at other salons and they always lift or I get some scary fungus under them. I don't have this experience with the Calgel nails that Mika does for me. They last for three weeks, no lifting, breaking, splitting and best of all, "no fungus among us." You can get crazy, beautiful designs with the Calgel nails and your nails will be showstoppers wherever you go. I mean, women at restaurants have tried to grab my hands to see them as I have walked by, even hospital nurses gathered around me to check out my pretty nails! They are nothing like the American or Vietnamese version of gel nails. Those brands of gel nails are crap in my humble opinion, but they must work for some ladies. I usually pay between $45-55 and I get either the degradation (nail looks darker at top and fades in color towards bottom of nail bed) look and/or one design or a few jewels on a few of my nails.The nails are light feeling and don't look thick or super phony like some acrylics look. Give them a try if you want nails that last a long time and want creative, unusually beautiful nails that look like works of art! :-) read more

I LOVE Kawaii Nails!! I truly really honestly love them! All the girls working there are extremely sweet and accommodating. They are always conscientious of their customers and respectful in communicating how they will be proceeding with their design process. And you have to love the continual play of chick flicks in the corner. ;} I've done both acrylics and cal gel with them and every single time, I've walked out feeling like my hands looked like a million bucks. I initially did acrylics since I don't naturally have nice long nails and had them on till I could grow out my own nails. And boy did I have fun growing out those nails with the acrylics! For one set, I just told Mika, I want Cinderella nails! And she gave me the most GORGEOUS Cinderella nails I could've asked for. And they were durable as all shizz! Now that my nails have grown, I'm doing the cal gel and it's great. You get thinner nails so they look more natural. I've had Mika and Miho work on my cal gels and they are both fantastic. They both have an incredible attention to detail and make sure that they know exactly what I want in my designs. But honestly, it's gotten to that point where I'd feel totally comfortable telling them to just surprise me. Now I want to address a negative review below. Not that I'm negating that that yelper didn't have a satisfactory experience but I've worked with Mika on more than several occasions and I have to express that I think that she leads the pack in her diligence and skill. Cal gel cannot extend nails. It is really almost like a super hard top coat that allows for awesome pigmented colors to be painted on. If you want to extend your nails, you need to do acrylics. A lot of people get confused when they hear gel and acrylic and assume they are the same and perform the same functions but they are quite different. Also, I've never had a problem with sanitation at Kawaii. They are very clean but you have to realize that you cannot sanitize EVERYTHING. You can't sanitize a foam nail buffer. It's a piece of foam. And I'm pretty sure that there aren't too many things you could "catch" from a non-porous surface like your nail. So rest easy, folks. I couldn't recommend Kawaii Nails enough to people! I worked at a department store and I got so many people asking me where I got my nails done, I just started stapling their business cards onto the back of my own! read more

My new favorite go-to salon. Bright, clean, and a good-feel happy space! I come every three weeks, and without fail my nails come out looking like a million bucks. The staff at Kawaii nails are a team of cutiepies with incredible talent. I get the Calgel with designs on all 10 nails which takes approximately about 2 hours. While my nails go under serious reconstruction, there's a movie playing on the corner flat screen with captions - this time it was Mr. & Mrs. Smith. By checkout time, I'm staring at my own decked out glistening, bejeweled talons in pure giddiness. The benefits of getting 3D fancy pants nails done: 1. Gorgeous looking, low maintenance nails with no chipping for three weeks. 2. Looks way better that the do-it-yourself sticker strips you get from your local CVS or even minx nails. Maybe it's my application, but I've never been able to get it to look right...plus the flat one-dimensional look isn't appealing to me either. 3. My nails grew to such a length that people assume they must be enhanced by acrylics. Not so, they are all natural. 4. All my nails except one. I broke one while I was breaking open boxes like a fool at work but my nail genius fixed that right back up with a quickness. 5. Definitely a conversation starter and easy icebreaker. This especially helps when it comes to chitchatting with my customers at work. 6. Constant "oohs" and "ahhs" from random strangers. So if you can't stand the attention, being complimented on the daily or people asking to take photos of your eye-catching paws like it's celebrity nail paparazzi, then don't get them Shy Wallflower. 7. My man thinks they are majorly sexy. Not too long ago I wanted to take boxing up, but when I realized I would have to sacrifice my nails for it I came to my senses. Yoga it is. I must begin with "wow" today was my first appointment and as I walked in everyone in the salon greeted me this is not usual in majority of salons! This is a Japanese salon that uses Japanese cal gel that is as hard as acrylic so for the first time in 20 years I've removed my acrylic and have gel on and my nails look so amazing and feel very strong! This salon only books by app and they are very detailed when you call so they ask questions to determine how much time You'll need with the nail artist! They can do any design you ask for, from 3D to crystal stones to designs the more the better!!! Yukki did my nails and she was so stylish and sweet and professional! Also a great nail artist! Best part you only need to return every 3 to 4 weeks depending on how fast your nails grow! So if your nails are your thing this is the best place to go to and just have fun and experience nail art at its finest!!! read more

i LOVE this place! so let me start by saying i always get OPI gels on my nails because regular nail polish lasts a matter of minutes in my motherly line of duty (toddlers destroy manicures. end of story) so i was a total noob when it came to japanese nail art and had no idea what to expect..all i knew was hey that looks bad**s & i need some kick a*s designs for my bday weekend...started scouring yelp for a salon near my work and stumbled across this little gem. so heres my quick breakdown for ya: the staff gave off such a welcoming & friendly vibe from my initial phonecall to my 2+ hour nail makeover. the salon is small but perfect. they always have a movie playing for you to watch while they go to town on your lovely claws & all the girls working here are super sweet. i have been here twice now and plan on heading back in later this week...what can i say?! i'm hooked!!! i've seen mika both times & am equally astonished at the end of each visit by the little miracles she creates on my fingertips the price is a bit high but completely worth it! the calgels are way better than the other gel nails i have tried before (OPI included). Ok.. So to be fair I haven't had my nails done there and here is why. I called in to make an appointment and explained that I have a new set of coffin nails with gel color on top. I tell the woman who answered the phone that I had seen a pic of Mikas work and would like the same. She asks me how many designs I would like and I try to explain that I would like a fill and matte gel color with 4 designs. She tells me that they will need to take my acrylics off because I had them done somewhere else.. Even though they are a brand new set. I tell her I don't want that I just want the fill with the gel and design. She tells me they can't do just 4 nails with design. It doesn't help that she doesn't speak good English. I tell her again that I can do the fill somewhere else and come in just for the gel and design. She says ok but I will have to pay $65 for the fill instead of $45 because they were done somewhere else plus pay for the gel and designs. WOW! I have never tried to make an appointment somewhere that they need to give you approval first and then charge you more because you had the original set done somewhere else! I politely said no thank you and that I would go somewhere else. That's so rude! So they just lost what could have been a longtime customer. Btw.. I asked for just the designs and gel so they would be doing all 10 nails and she said no to that. I have been a client of atlas studio and the are great just much more pricey then the other cal gel salons at $70 for a fill plus designs. Kawaii wanted $45 originally for the fill adding $20 to that as a penalty for getting the set done at Atlas studio. :( it's too bad but I did make an appt at MYU nails who had no problems at all. Just wanted to see the design to make sure she could do it. :) although it won't be the same I'm hoping it's close.. I'll post the art I wanted to show how simple it was.
