My last design. Simple with stars. I like the almond shape
    Michelle W.

Aco is my girl! She does a great job. She is fast, friendly and thorough. Don't mistake this place for a spa, you don't get a massage, and no scrub. This place is pure artwork. Your cuticles will get trimmed but don't expect to soak your hands in water. I normally spend an hour and it's mostly design and maintenance. I have to admit my nails are much healthier and longer than ever before. And i always always get compliments on my designs. It's easy to assume you're in the wrong place when you arrive because it is an office building, not a retail store front. But not be mislead this place is really special and i really appreciate their talent!

I FINALLY FOUND MY PERFECT NAIL TECH! Omg! Mika is AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING! She has a little private studio -YESSSSS NO MORE DEALING WITH OTHET ANNOYING CLIENTS GETTING THEIR NAILS DONE AT THE SAME TIME HAHA- it's quiet, adorable, and located in the same office as Patty with Lashury so I got two beauty apts done at the same time. Mika is incredible. She uses extensions (not the glue on tips) so your nail is all done with acrylic -I've been trying to find someone who does sculpting for forever! Not only that but she slays everything she does. I showed her 4 designs and she helped me narrow it down and then read my mind on what I wanted for the design we ended up choosing from my samples. My nails came out better than I ever hoped for. She's AMAZING! Go see Mika you can thank me later. ;)

Mika did an amazing job! She was very efficient and professional! Cute atmosphere. Weird Office location. Movies are streaming while you're getting your nails done. I did gel with extensions, and custom design. I found a picture on Yelp that I loved, so I just sent that to my nail artist via texting. Cal gel $45 Extensions $75 Designs $6 and up. My nail set cost ~$105. Reason for 4 stars: For booking an appointment, they will ask for your credit card number, which seems odd and uncomfortable. I personally did not feel comfortable sharing any confidential information via phone call or texting. So, I hd to walk in and book it in person. You can only book an appointment either via phone or in person. I used to go to a nail salon often similar to this one. Japanese nail salon called, Cync Nails. They never asked me for my credit card number when booking a reservation. However, I do understand that they will have to charge you for last minute cancellations ($20). Just for clarification, they will not force you to provide your credit card number! They will recommend a non-reserved walk-in. If you arrive on the day of without a reservation, you may or may not get your nails done. It's only depending on the nail artist's availability. I rather have paid a deposit via online instead of going through all of this. Despite the odd and inconvenient booking procedure, I still love their service. So, I HIGHLY recommend if you want to get a customized gel set!

Hands down the best nails I've ever had. I'm writing this review a little more than 3 weeks after my appointment and my nails still don't have a single imperfection. The nail boutique itself is in a corporate park near John Wayne airport. There are only two nail technicians so they each have their own little office in the suite. Aco is a true artist and was extremely sweet and detailed when working on my nails and I really appreciated her dedication to the craft. She also had a good assortment of girly movies for her clients to watch during their service; I got to watch 27 dresses and a little bit of mean girls. The overall cost of the service was a lot more than what I would normally pay but honestly, with the amount the detail she put into my nails, the cost was reasonable (you get what you pay for in the most positive sense.) it's important to note that it is not a full manicure, so don't expect a soak, or lotiony hand massage. Even still, Ive gotten SO many compliments on my nails so it was still very well worth it. I will definitely be coming back for my next special occasion and be recommending them to all of my friends. (As a side note, everything in the picture I'm uploading was hand painted by Aco (no stencils or stickers!))

I am all about my nails, and they have to look good at all times. I used to go to those neighborhood nail salons, but I have always had bad experiences with them. Whether they talk bad about you in a different language or they keep trying to sell you ugly flowers that just look tacky. Last month Mika and I hit our 2 year nail anniversary!!! She has been doing my nails for the past two glorious years. She is my nail guru. When I met her she said her dream was to own her own salon. And she did it!!!! I am so proud of her!! If it werent for her my claws would be disgusting. Any ways back to my always flawless nails. I either bring in a picture or an idea and she turn my paws into a masterpiece. I go to her for both Cal Gel and Acrylics. She does awesome hand- painted designs as well as 3-D. She had done many 3-D designs for me. Examples: Hello Kitty, Christmas, Valentine's Day, Bows, and those are just a few. Also Mika does not have her own agenda, like many other nail technicians i have gone to. When I would go to other salons, the technician would just go off and do their own thing. However, Mika does exactly what you want. She is awesome!!! If you go see her, she will never disappoint. Info about salon: -They do no yank off acrylics. They soak them and carefully remove them. They care about your nails - Great color selection on both acrylics and calgels -Great selection of gems, rhinestone, glitter, or anything else that would make your nails look amazing. -They have a lot of picture albums and nail magazines with designs -Always have a Disney movie or music videos playing on the flat screen to keep you entertained -You should make an appointment since japanese nails take a longer. -They are a little more expensive then regular salons, but they are worth every penny - All the ladies are so nice and friendly -Also keep your eyes peeled for their monthly specials! -If it is your first time ask a lot of questions. They are very helpful!! -Lastly, they do not talk crap about you in Vietnamese!!!!!! And if this review hasn't convinced you. Check out my nail pics.

Yay! Love the new location! Kawaii Nails is AMAZING and their Newport Beach location is incredible. Every nail artist has their own private room so you can really relax. The salon is so nicely decorated and there are little personal touches everywhere, so cute and warm feeling. Mika has been my nail artist since before she opened Kawaii, so for over 5 years I have trusted her and she has never let me down. Mika is very fast and super talented, you should see the way she handles a tiny paint brush to make all of your nail art dreams come true! Here is an important run down for new people: -Mika and the girls have been doing Japanese style gel nails since before it became popular here in the U.S., they use the best quality products and real gel, not BS "gel polish" -Unlike with other gel salons: the work here will not be lumpy/bumpy, it should never hurt! (I have painful experiences at other salons), they will always be efficient and quick (some salons take over an hour to remove old gel!) but always with a high attention to detail! -Their prices start at around $45 and go up from there -Your gel nails will last you for about 3-4 weeks with no lifting or chipping. I have heard some people say they don't like gel because it only lasts for 1-2 weeks, well you aren't getting quality gel. -If you want to make an appointment be prepared to be put on a waiting list or prepare and book out about 2-3 weeks ahead of when you want an appointment, they are super booked! -When making your appointment they WILL ask you numerous questions and you should be prepared to answer: whether or not you currently have anything on your nails, if you want gel or acrylic, if you need an acrylic extension, how many designs you want to do, and whether or not they are complicated. All of these questions really help them to estimate how long you will be there so they can block out the appropriate amount of time, someone getting one color vs. someone getting 10 designs are not going to take the same amount of time. -I am also pretty sure they ask for a CC over the phone for your booking in case you miss your appointment. Some people may not like it, but it is totally fair in my opinion because they have like 62k followers on Instagram and get a lot of calls and they need to know your serious or they should give your spot to someone else on the waiting list. Lastly, their prices might be a bit higher than other places but it is really a case of you get what you pay for. Even if you get a one color gel, it looks flawless vs. cheap places that will seriously screw up your natural nails. I have been a non-stop gel nail addict for over 5 years and Mika is the best around!

I have been coming here for several months now, and I can't ever imagine going anywhere else! The talent here just surpasses any other nail salons I've ever been to. They are all skilled Japanese nail art technicians. These are true artists who know how to do everything little design your heart desires! From hello kitty 3D art to chanel logos, to even portraits! Basically anything you want, as long as you bring in a photo, they can make it come to life for you. Photos are gonna be your best bet, because a lot of the artists are Japanese and don't speak English too well. If you ever need nail inspirations just look for them on Instagram as they post hundreds of photos on their @kawaii_nails_tustin_ca I used to only come in for Mika, but because of the scheduling and I'm really bad at pre booking, I've had to set appointments with the other artists. And honestly, they are all equally talented. So it doesn't matter who you choose to come to, as you will be pleased with the results regardless. A couple things to keep in mind. 1 that this place is expensive! They charge you for everything, which is kind of standard. They charge to remove the polish, the nails, the gel, acrylic Ect. They do charge PER design! On top of your regular gel or acrylic or regular manicure. I think each design is $6. For someone like me who usually gets 10 different designs, it can run me anywhere from $100-$150 for just my hands! Depending on if I needed to remove my old nails or not. For the regular pedicure, really basic one where they just do the color, it's about $45. But if you choose to soak your feet, and remove your callus and get lotion rubbed on your lets it's about $75 plus the designs is extra. I personally do think that the pedicure is a bit over priced, just because other salons for that price do offer more with the pedicure. But overall, I come here because they are the best, and when something is good, price doesn't matter. Also make sure you book your appointments early! As they are being booked a month in advance now! If your looking for something special and unique for your nails, this is definitely the place you wanna come to! Just be prepared to spend some cash! And you can not be in a hurry when you come here! Every time I'm here it's a minimum of 3 hours, this is due to the fact that I am extremely picky and get a design on each nail.

Love the new Kawaii Nails!! I follow Mika wherever she goes...from Costa Mesa to Tustin to Newport Beach. I live in Sacramento, so YES...she's that good! I love how each artist has her own room at this new location. Mika, as well as the other artists here, are so talented & detail-oriented. You should see them with their teeny little brushes, drawing every little detail. Amazing!! If you look through my photos, all those designs are hand-painted or sculpted one by one! They are NOT stickers or decals. I see a bunch of salons trying to imitate the 3D nail art, but it's just not the same. Most of those places are "regular" nail salons doing manicures. Then, as the popularity of Japanese nails rose, everyone decided one day that they'll learn the basics of gel polish & nail art. It shows in the amateur-ish look of those clients' nails, as well as in the techniques they use to remove gel polish. Kawaii Nails clearly discloses their "Appointment Only" policy, but ppl still complain about not being accommodated when they walk in. Kawaii is always fully booked up weeks/months in advance, and there's always a waiting list. Each artist can take up to 2-3 hours on 1 client, so no one is going to be able to give you a "quick manicure." They will also ask for your credit card info if you're a "new" client. I've heard ppl complain about this, too. Well, again, this is not one of your cheap, everyday nail salons. If you don't show up, you just lost them a client that was waiting hopefully for a cancellation...and you also made the artist sit around for a couple of hours until her next appointment. If you've ever gone to an upscale or exclusive spa, salon, or restaurant, they ask for your credit info for the same reasons. I get my nails done every 3-4 weeks, but I could potentially keep my designs for weeks longer. They don't chip...ever! I LOVE Kawaii Nails!

Love the quality and care from the nail technicians here. It's not your average nail shop that's for sure. Yes it's over priced but you get what you pay for. My nails last me a month no chips or anything! Took off one star because the last time I came, the technician I was with took forever with my nails! I was there for one simple design on each hand and was there for over 2 1/2 hrs. Will be back for my winter nails

2nd time -- so much nail growth !!

Just recently starting coming to this place a few months ago and I am in love with my nail appointments all over again! I've known about Kawaii Nails for a long time now but decided to try them out because I wanted my own natural long nails back. All the other nail salons I was going to had soft gel that kept peeling and making it impossible for my nails to grow. The new location is very cute and Mika is very good at what she does !! She's truly talented and although it is a bit pricier than the other salons, it sure is worth it to have a long lasting, beautiful manicure that actually helps your nails grow!!

My gf introduced me to Kawaii and so glad I asked about her amazing nails! Good thing she warned me about the initial phone appt how they will ask for your cc number to reserve just to make sure you're serious about it. This is my 3rd time back and I'm addicted. Mika and Aco have both done my nails and they're very talented!!! Yes, it cost an arm and a leg to come here but my nails have not chipped and they last a long time! Only thing is my nails grow so fast! I will never go back to regular gel nails again!

Simple, short nails by Miki. Can't wait to get a little more adventurous next time. :)

Update as of 3/4/2014! Still great as ever. Miho has unfortunately left the salon to return to Japan, so I have been seeing Junko for my past few appointments. Not only is she incredibly sweet, but awesomely talented as well! I've been incredibly happy with my nails. During the holidays, I couldn't get in due to traveling, working, etc. I know it's awful, but I didn't get my nails done for ALMOST 7 WEEKS. Yikes!! Nevertheless, only ONE of my nails lifted off. I felt so incredibly bad for making Junko take care of my thrashed nails, but she did so without batting an eye! (Thank you Junko, you're an angel! LOL) I always see the artists trying their best to accommodate clients, whether it be a photo or a drawing or even just some vague vision they may have. They nail it (hehe, pun intended...) every time! All of the ladies here are insanely talented. Clean, quiet, great work, and gorgeous nails. What more could you ask for? It's just about time for my next visit, and I can't wait! :)

Ask the Community - Kawaii Nails

Does anyone know if Kawaii Nails has re-opened? I've left a voice mail to see if they are and make an appointment, but no one has called me back yet.

I was able to reach them but they would not book an appointment for me. Aco said she can't prebook because she doesn't know her schedule. They are open for certain clients.

Does anyone know if the phone number has changed ? I've tried calling for weeks and no answer !

Please try this number if the main line is not available... (949) 698-3220. Thank you, Kawaii Nails Management.

We were assured that wouldn't be a problem and were told another technician would be back from lunch shortly. That person never came back, so I ended up waiting until another technician finished someone else's pedicure before she could start mine, which defeated the purpose of booking both services at the same time. During my manicure, the owner (or manager) seemed to be rushing through the service. When I politely pointed out a few issues with the shape and some imperfections, she didn't seem happy about the feedback, which made the experience uncomfortable. As a paying customer, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect attention to detail, especially when getting acrylic tips, builder gel, and gel polish. To make matters worse, it's only been one week and one of my nails has already chipped. With the services I paid for, I expected my manicure to last much longer than that. Overall, I left disappointed with both the service and the quality of the work. Unfortunately, I won't be returning to this nail salon.

Unfortunately, during my last two appointments, my experience with Sara was extremely unpleasant. She was rude and disrespectful toward me and even told me, in a very demeaning way, that I "don't know how to pick a color." I found her comments completely inappropriate and unprofessional. I understand that she is busy and has many clients, but that should never be an excuse to speak to a customer disrespectfully. If a client needs help choosing a color, there are professional and courteous ways to communicate that. I had been coming here consistently for five months and expected to be treated with the same respect and courtesy that I have shown the salon. Unfortunately, after these last two experiences, I no longer feel comfortable returning. I'm writing this review because I believe customers deserve to be treated respectfully, regardless of how busy the salon may be. I hope management takes this feedback seriously. I probably will contact the Better Business Bureau regarding this matter.

Unfortunately, she wasn't available today, so I was assigned to someone else. I went in with a very simple plan: remove my current gel builder set and get a basic manicure with cuticle cleanup. I was very clear that I'm coming back in two weeks (for my baby shower, which I mentioned multiple times) to get a fresh gel builder set with Katelyn. Today, I was completely fine leaving with bare, natural nails. During the service, the nail tech asked if I wanted a clear coat. I said sure. Then she mentioned she would apply a thin layer of gel builder "just to keep my nails strong" until I come back. The way it was presented sounded like a small courtesy, not an added service--so at no point did I think I was agreeing to an extra $50 charge. I get to the register and my total is $70. $20 for a manicure... and $50 for gel builder. I was completely blindsided. If I had known I was being charged for gel builder, why would I agree to a THIN, clear layer with no color? That makes zero sense, especially when I specifically said I'd be coming back for a full set in two weeks. I felt genuinely misled. When I questioned it, I was told it was because the tech applied gel builder. I explained that I had clearly asked for just a manicure before being seated, and no one mentioned any additional costs at any point. They apologized and took off $20 plus 15%, but I still ended up paying $50 for something I didn't ask for and didn't want. At that point, I felt so uncomfortable and frustrated that I just paid and left. But honestly, the damage was done. This completely ruined my trust. Why would I come back in two weeks (or ever) when I've basically already paid for a service I didn't even want? I'm really disappointed because I loved coming here and it's so close to home, but the lack of transparency and communication today was unacceptable. Please be very careful and ask about every single charge before agreeing to anything here. Better yet, just don't come here at all.
