I saw a sign that said lechon kawali was available so ordered that and a side of rice. Although the lechon kawali was crispy and flavorful, it was way too fatty for me. When I've had it at other restaurants there was more meat. I threw half of it away due to it being mostly fat. Don't want to elevate my cholesterol anymore since my doctor says I need to lower it. I also purchased a ube mamon pastry which was delicious. I would definitely get it again. My friend got the menudo. She thought it was good, but pricy for the portion. She also ordered the halo. After eating our lunch she had not received it so went to the register to check. Upon asking, she was informed the employee did not ring it up even though she nodded when my friend ordered it. They also sell baked goods, beverages, and pre-packaged items. Half of the restaurant was an eye sore with boxes. I personally think they could put a decorative divider up to cover it. I wanted to explore more Filipino food after I have tried it for a while. I chose KC Filipino Restaurant because I wanted to try Crispy Pata (Crispy Knuckle) that not many places serve it. (mostly pork belly) When I got inside the atmosphere was very casual and seem like a cafeteria or canteen style with mini mart. It might be very familiar for Asian people like me or Filipino. Too bad that they don't have menu or any food name on display glass counter, so it wasn't quite easy for me to order something else that I wanted to try (besides Crispy Pata). As for the food, Crispy Pata, I was a little upset. (From my experiences) It wasn't crispy enough, a lot of fat/skin parts still sticky and tough. That might be because they didn't fry it long enough and many customers there at that time. As for the flavor, quite tasteless, not much herbs or spices. I also ordered something look like beef curry (I don't know the name), I like this one though. It tasted quite mild and beef texture was cooked nicely. I still got BBQ pork skewer and fried banana, they both were just OK, quite plain and too sweet. For the service, as I said in the beginning, it was vey casual restaurant, so please don't expect to get a professional or full service too much. It was ordinary and informal restaurant type. Free parking, family friendly seatings, long slow lines and lack of rice. Those are some of the things I immediately noticed during the visit. Located to the left of the NY Mart, this relatively new Filipino cafe / grocery store left me wishing a bit of everything for more. The parking is free but it can feel far due to only one of two entrances available to use. This can pose a challenge if you purchase catering sized meals or large quantities of grocery items. The seatings are great for families to sit and eat but not so much for just party of two. No high chairs for babies available in case that's a concern for you. The tables and chairs weren't exactly the cleanest nor was any napkins readily available for use. We had to wait 5+ minutes to have someone give us napkins and utensils to eat our takeaway. The lines were long and very slow. The food was delicious but they ran out of rice for all to eat. This created an unfortunate situation of wasting all the delicious broth and sauce to be left behind. The food I got to try was otherwise delicious. I wish the portions were larger and the rice more ample. The grocery section had a little bit of everything. I loved the puffed chocolate snack. It's like biting into an air of chocolate in each bites. Think cheetos but lighter and tasting like chocolates. As a NOVA local, I wanted to explore filipino restaurants in the DMV area. I should have looked at the reviews before coming here, since there are many 3 starred reviews. Firstly, the food was pricey compared to others. A 2 entree combo was $15 or $16, compared to nearby places for $12. Secondly, they skimped on rice, little disrespectful for a filipino. The caldereta and bistek was very dry too. Thirdly, the customer service was below average. The cashier was an old lady who didn't greet me at all and just stared. She got my food and all, but no "thank you" or "goodbye." Of course this isn't the full restaurant experience, but even McDonald's workers' can say thank you. read more

The owners are so so helpful and kind at KC Filipino!!! There is a cafeteria style restaurant and also a market area with snacks, pantry items and frozen foods! My favorites that we ate were the lumpia, the pork sinigang and the flan!! The pork sinigang was so comforting and had such great flavors. The flan was so rich and decadent. I can only speak to the snacks so this review will be short and sweet -- and savoury! I got four different snacks -- two of them being peanut, one corn, and one mixture of oh-so-many crunchy things -- and as has been previously mentioned by another reviewer, the woman there was indeed very helpful! I have never been given snacking advice before so this was a definite (and very fun!) first; I was told they're really good mixed together, so after trying each individually I mixed them and yes, it was fantabulous! I always get excited when new places open up in the area and this was on my list to try. A family owned business ran by the same owners of Pampanguena Cafe. My sister and I stopped in for lunch and we had a mediocre experience. Good: Variety of options for lunch combos. Beef, chicken, and vegetables are available. Plenty of choices for snacks, desserts, and small bites. The style is "turo-turo" which means "point point" from a selection of food on display. It's a quick process unless you order from the special menu. I ordered Laing (taro leaves cooked in coconut milk) and the purity of the coconut flavor shined through. It was probably the best part of my meal. Decent prices for the lunch combos. Bad: The chicken bbq on a stick was disappointing. It didn't taste like the usual Filipino charred bbq that I'm use to. It was brushed with basic barbecue sauce and I expected it to be warmer than room-temperature. Some of the dishes on display looked reheated from the day before. The dirty dishes from other tables were left sitting there while we ate. Not a good look for incoming customers and it wasn't sanitary period. Overpriced snacks on display. I stopped in on a whim looking for Ube extract. It should be noted that I attempt to find this at retail other stores in the area and had zero luck. KC had just opened but unfortunately the door was still locked. I was a little confused but within a quick minute an employee was running to open the door. The space was nothing like I expected. It's rather large in size and then there was a small grocery section in the back to the left side. At first I was sad to see how small it was but luckily they had what I needed. There were a lot of great options in the small section. Staff were friendly and helpful when I asked questions. Just an FYI KC does not accept American Express but they do have Apple Pay. That said, I can never for the life of me understand why food we order is taken out of the serving containers at the counter and then brought back into the kitchen to be microwaved. KC Filipino is a casual, turo-turo style restaurant with some a la carte items available for order if you don't see anything you like on display. They also have some specialty items & filipino goods for sale. From what I understand, this concept is from the same owners who brought us Pampangueña Cafe that later rebranded to Kapampangan Cuisine, which is now defunct. Their old location was in an awkward shopping strip that was easy to miss and had very scarce parking spots. This time around, they're easy to locate & have ample parking out in front. The space inside is nice and they added booths, which is a nice improvement from before. The food here is very authentic Filipino cuisine. Nothing too fancy, but definitely hearty & homemade. They hit the mark on the rich and savory flavors that are very familiar to me, with the exception of their adobo (it was more on the vinegary side of the spectrum). Expect some gristle on some of the meats here, as most dishes are traditionally cooked that way. The reason for the low rating is because of the portion sizes and overall value. I think the prices are a little too steep for how much food they actually give you. I feel like I always leave feeling hungry. I've also been served more bone fragments than actual protein when ordering dishes with bone-in meats on more than one occasion, which is disappointing. After snowboarding at Liberty mountain PA. I was craving for hot filipino soup on this cold weather, and I saw this on my way back to washington. The store closes at 7pm and there is no number to call, but i try it anyway. I arrive around 6:37p and they seem like getting ready to close but they took their time to serve me my favorite Pork Sinigang. It not as best as my wife or my mom sinigang, but boy this will do. It was actually pretty decent not much vegetable but i'm not expecting much i just want hot soup and they delivering smoking hot. I ate that sinigang like a soldier i still have few minutes to buy some filipino junk food and price is decent to not ever price like other filipino chain out there. My husband and I first went here over the weekend. Though the outside is modest, the inside is clean and modest. This is a buffet style place where you go up to front to place your order. While this is first and foremost a restaurant, they do have a small wall of grocery goods like Filipino condiments and snacks. The customer service was delightful. The young cashier/server was polite, respectful, and offered great suggestions. You know this place is authentic as their buffet food items do not have descriptive labels, thus catering to Filipinos or non-Filipinos who know the cuisines. That is both a pro and a con because it means that you need to know what the dishes are (thus altering to Filipino clientele) but then makes the cuisine inaccessible to those who don't know. My husband is not Filipino and was annoyed that there where no labels to describe the food. I was drawn to this place because I saw on yelp that they offered puto bumbong and ginataan, desserts that I have seen only in the Philippines and never seen in Filipino restaurants in downtown DC. KC Filipino also offers food (such as laing and adobong pusit) that's not offered at other places like Kuya Ja's or Purple Patch. The portions are generous and well worth the price. Solid food, quick lunch. I grabbed two combos. One with Laing and Beef Caldereta. The other with Pompano and pinakbet. I thought the Laing was the best I've had. Other people make Laing (taro leaves in coconut milk) too sweet with too much coconut cream or sour with vinegar. This version was savory and cooked with some shrimp in it. Caldereta tasted good too. Savory and balanced with tomato flavor. Most of the beef was very tender and juicy. Some pieces a bit tougher and dry but overall very good. The pinakbet was okay. The versions I'm used to have more shrimp paste in it. So this version was certainly not as savory and funky but mild. Still tasty. The pompano wasn't my favorite. It was cooked with tomato and eggs. I don't think it's worth the extra for the fish. The other stuff we're more exciting. They also have a small grocery section with plenty of snacks and general grocery needs! Grabbed some Chocolate glazed banana chips. Yummmm. Overall a bit on the pricey side but certainly worth it. 10-11$ for a combo. Some extra if you get fish (14$ for what I got). The lovely couple at the counter (I'm assuming the owners) took the time to figure out what it was that I wanted and then proceeded to help the next customers do the same. Saw the sign and remembered having great lumpia made by a friend years ago. The food was set out like a buffet served by staff. I asked to taste a few things and ended up getting the ground pork and carrot entree w rice and shanghai and another kind of lumpia (spring roll). Not memorable. Service was fine. Young woman (teen?) who was behind the counter taking orders and serving food (without gloves) blew her nose. I unfortunately had to ask her to wash her hands. That was a turn off. Super friendly store. It was my first time coming here. I didn't know there was a Filipino restaurant in that plaza. I would compare KC similar to Manila Mart in beltsville. They sell almost the same things and both include a market inside as well. If I were to choose taste wise, I would prefer Manila mart. However KC is more convenient for me. I always find myself mainly coming here not because of the buffet style aesthetic that is laid out on their glass display at the front counter. Sure, they have an array of selections to choose from as well as off the menu dishes. And the food is good, a typical Filipino dish which my family seems to enjoy. From their Laing, Bangus, and Lanka. But it's their Halo Halo that keeps me coming back. It's a cold drink served in crushed ice, evaporated milk, and various concoctions like jack fruit, plantain, and sweet beans. All topped with ube ice cream and flan. I ate there today, I thought it was gonna be a typical Filipino eatery with good food. But it was awful. The bistek is so bad. They didn't have the right meat in there. It lacked onions and the sauce doesn't bind to the meat. The menudo and sinigang were very dry in flavor. They were taken out from the sauce or soup. The bbq is hard. On top of that, it was 12 bucks per combo. If you go to another Filipino eatery, they have better pricing and flavor. The tindera was kind... but I don't recommend grocery or eating in there. The lechon is deep fried not baked for a long time. Deep frying the pork belly leaves the pork really dry and flavorless. Thankfully the fat was fully rendered. The restaurant is next to new world mart, and the inside gives me an Italian restaurant sort of vibe (maybe due to the brick wall area resembling a fireplace). There's also a mini grocery area in the back if you would like to purchase non-restaurant food items. Due to the lack of descriptions, my SO and I were pretty lost on what's what. Thankfully, it's buffet style, so we could see what each dish looked like. The young lady at the counter was also extremely nice and patient - she explained every single option they offered, and gave us some recommendations. It's order at the counter style, so it's more of a casual setting - a great place to grab a quick bite to eat or to enjoy food with friends. There's plenty of seating! As for food, they serve the food to you at your table as it gets ready (if it's not immediately ready at the buffet counter). The bbq on a stick has very tender meat, but the bbq sauce itself is quite bland. The jerky has a very interesting taste to it - I definitely liked it. Maybe I should've gotten a veggie option, since I felt that the food was pretty heavy. But then again, I don't think I ever had a light meal when eating Filipino food. The woman working behind the counter was very nice. They have a lot of packaged goods. The food bar didn't look the most appetizing. I got a combo with rice, BBQ chicken, and veggies with shrimp and a turon.The BBQ chicken was delicious as was the rice. The veggies were very mediocre. The turon was a little burnt and not very sweet but otherwise had a nice plantain flavor. They didn't have any menus and the TV screens were out so check out the menu online if you choose to go.
