I really enjoyed my customized handmade noodle bowl in their signature beef broth with curry fish balls, bbq pork belly, and wonton. All of the bowls come with an half marinated soft boiled egg and baby bok choy. The only downside is that if you aren't aware of what you're choosing it can quickly add up. Aside from their bowls, they plenty of other tasty dishes on the menu like Hong Kong street food, congee, chow mein, fried rice, and beef brisket. Service is very friendly and efficient. Hubby had the same thing except with beef brisket instead of wontons. My wontons were missing from my dish so I had to ask for them to be brought separately. I enjoyed the BBQ pork and wontons but hubby thought the brisket had too much tendon. The noodles were well cooked and the broth was flavorful. Loved this place! The interior decorations were cute and retro with the neon lights, food-themed posters, checkered table cloths, etc. We got the classic stir fried rice noodle w/ beef, HK street food platter (the curry fish balls were good), and the build-your-own rice bowl (see pic) that came with soup on the side. We got both the spicy and belly sauce with the rice bowl and idk what that sauce is made of but it was amazing?? And the HK milk tea was the best I've had in a while. The family and I took a drive to Chinatown for dinner and decided to try a place we hadn't been. It was later evening and the neon signage caught our eye. Although they had several full tables, we were seated quickly and had a very friendly, helpful waitress who helped us navigate the menu. We each had a specialry drink (I loved the iced honey green tea!) and we tried the crab Rangoon and pork dumplings (potstickers) which were both excellent. My partner loved his build-your-own noodle bowl. He ordered the five spice beef brisket and tendon with medium spice level broth and added veggie dumplings ($1.50). The broth was rich and layered with the perfect level of spice. I was craving a "salted egg-yolk style" dish and was recommended to get fish fillet as it's base. The dish first arrived without rice but thankfully a small bowl was offered and given without extra charge. While the food was fantastic, the price and my overly sweet Hong Kong style milk tea (usually known for its strong taste) prompted me to give 4 stars. My father and I started going to this restaurant probably 15+ years ago. It was a staple every time we visited Chinatown. I remember when there were printed pictures of the menu items taped to the walls. That's when the food was the best- full of flavor and worth returning for. As you enter the place you are greeted by the friendly staff and the colorful underground look of the walls, their decor and neon theme vibes are something new to see on this side of chinatown, it feels like you are on the streets of Hon Kong. It was packed when we went but the wait was short. We order the Fried Pork Dumplings for our appetizers, and the Beef Crispy Chow Mein and General Tsao Chicken for our main courses. The food came to us fast, The dumplings hit right on the spot, crispy and juicy from the pork the Chow mein came next, and that one took the first place price. Bookmarked this place so fast when I found out that we're going on a trip to Chicago for wife's birthday. We went around 2PM on a Friday and it was not packed (It was snowing outside so I doubt people wanna go out to eat). Was reminiscent of an old diner. We were handed a paper pen and menu and the server left without saying a word. We eventually flagged down a server and placed our order. Do you love sour rice? Rice that tasted many days old? So old it turned to smelling sour and tasting sour? Welp! Have I found a spot for you! This Chinese restaurant is absolutely dirty. Our cola can had dirt smudges, our utensils had left over food still stuck... etc. Our rice. Our plain white rice was served smelling and tasting sour. Very sour. Upon complaining to the waiter, she spoke with another waiter and that gent came by and stated that's their rice. Not old at all. It could be their rice cooker has issues. But that's the ONLY rice they have. So, we said okay. We'll pay for what's currently on the table now which is tofu with mushroom and rice and 3 more dishes to come but we'll just pay for mushroom with tofu and leave. ONLY THEN! The male waiter stated, I can get you rice from upstairs. I think it's the same but you can try. Hold on! Goes up and bring down (within 2 mins) 2 white rice that didn't smell sour or tasted sour. Really great place to come during or definitely for some late night eats like we did! The place is packed on the weekends so you may need to a wait a while but thankfully we got the last table they had open! The service is extremely fast and the menu is hugeeee! There are literally so many options to choose from and I would say the portions are big enough to split between at least 2 people so this is definitely an economical option. To start we got the sweet and sour wings, now I love wings but I need them to be crispy ya'll lol. These are not crispy at all but if you really really like wings no matter the preparation you'll love these! The flavor was still really good but I'm a texture person and could not get past the texture. We also ordered the stir fried rice. It was amazing! I'm so used to ordering take out I've never really had fresh and hot stir fried rice and it was absolutely delicious. Nicely balanced without being super heavy on the soy sauce too! For our main shared meal we got the salt and pepper pork chops and the beef chow mein noodles. The pork chops were very good, even though they were the thin almost boneless ones, they weren't dry and still had a nice moistness to them. It was a little pepper heavy but that was to be expected. I think next time I would choose a different flavor though because of how heavy the pepper was. Because of how heavy the salt is too I would not eat an entire plate of this by myself or with one other person. I think this is great for a table appetizer or to share with at least 3-4 people as one of the meats on your plate. I'm speaking from a perspective of all the other heavily soy sauced foods you may be eating, this is the one that tasted like straight salt. Again it was expected but still very salty. The beef chow mein was very good, the beef was tender and I asked for extra baby bok choy. I didn't get it with the crispy noodles but I saw someone who had and it looked even more appetizing. This was really delicious enough for me to eat by myself and in the future I would not share this lol. I would order this as my main dish and maybe get a small appetizer if I was hungry enough. I've ordered delivery from Kee Kee, and the food has always been consistently okay. This time, I decided to visit Kee Kee when visiting Chinatown. I ordered some apps and the short rib. The short rib was limp, greasy and disgusting. I asked them to make it crispier, and the waiter took it to the back, let it sit in grease for two minutes, and brought it back to me with an oily spoon on top. The short rib, which I thought would be beef, wasn't...and was perhaps lamb. The restaurant was also extremely crowded and busy, and the workers seemed more interested in clearing tables for new customers rather than adequately serving those seated. Ken Kee is a great restaurant if you are looking for something that you can customize. I got their soup bowl with pork intestine and fish balls. I also got their beef soup and homemade noodles in a medium spice level. The soup wasn't that spicy, so if you can handle spice, I would recommend going for spicy or even super spicy. There's the ken kee hot sauce that you can add, which was great . You can control the spice level. The service was good as the waitresses were very quick on their feet and o got my food very fast. I didn't really have high expectations going in seeing that it has just an average yelp rating. There are also always usually seats at this restaurant even when all the other chinatown restaurants are full. But I was proven wrong! This place is good and authentic tasting. We got a laksa noodle bowl, the thousand island pork, and a pan fried flat rice noodle dish. Everything really surprised me in how flavorful and authentic it all tasted. The laksa was definitely the best thing I tried. I haven't had laksa here that was close to the flavor that I got in Asia. This one is the closest I've had here. The broth was very rich but not oily and gross. You could taste the creamy coconut-yness of it as well as the freshness and tanginess. The noodles also really surprised me because it had a nice bite to it and tasted like fresh noodles in texture. I wasn't exactly sure what the thousand island sauce was - but it is the authentic hong kong version of "sweet and sour". The pork was cooked perfectly - very tender and juicy, not dry at all. But the sauce was so impressive, it tasted exactly like the versions I've had before. I truly don't think you can get more authentic for this dish here. Lastly, the pan fried flat noodles had a good roasty flavor from the wok. It made the noodles almost smoky. It was very cool and reminiscent of a teppanyaki noodle. I do think this dish could've used a bit more salt/soy sauce but overall still good. The ambience is also something to note! Visiting HK for family growing up, one of my favorite meals is the street cart noodles (車仔麵)! I used to get them under a bridge where my family lived during every single visit. I'm from California and have tried them from different restaurants in the San Gabriel Valley, but have still yet to find one that can match the authenticity of HK. In fact, I rather just not order them anymore. I saw that this restaurant was one of the only ones in Chinatown to offer the famous street cart style noodles, so I figured I must give it a try! To begin with, I LOVED the interior design. My friends from Hong Kong all agree that the ambience, style, decorations & designs all made the restaurant look exactly like being in HK. They even played music from artists that I've listened to growing up, or from my parents era, further adding to the nostalgia! I ordered a Lemon Iced Tea, which was decent but not as good as another restaurant I tried it from just before this. For the noodles, I was given a sheet of paper to customize my bowl. I chose 3 toppings - curry fish balls, radish, and pork skin, which totaled $9 just for toppings. They had a lot of other selections, but everything was just crazy expensive in my opinion. You complete your customization by choosing a noodle type and soup base. The base bowl of noodles were $5, so my noodles ended up being around $14 before tax and tip. The toppings were okay, but the soup didn't taste like authentic street cart noodles. I can enjoy a good bowl of noodles even if it wasn't what I was expecting, but the beef soup base was just extremely bland. Unfortunately, it ended up being very expensive for a bowl of beef soup noodles that didn't resemble the real thing. If you're in search for the real thing, I wouldn't stop by this restaurant.
