A friend suggested the place, and being fairly new to the area, I said why not? The Caterpillar roll was incredble, great flavor, full taste. The Maguro was also very good. The atmosphere was pretty nice as well. My only issue was it was not super busy, but the server acted like they were slammed. Could be they had an off day. We will go back. I judge a sushi place by one dish: Chirashi. Wow. How absolutely underwhelming. It didn't even have any egg. The fish was fine, though the variety bland, the rice wasn't correct (not sticky or sweet enough, absolutely no hint of rice vinegar on it), and ugh, I will not buy from here again. Kenji Sushi has a creative Sushi Chef and it is the few things on the menu that is good as well as consistent. Today, I ordered a vegetable sushi roll of avocado, cucumber and mango; a miso soup and a Chicken Yaki-Soba. The Sushi was delightful and fresh. The miso soup was just right as well. However, the Yaki-Soba tasted off. I am Asian and African American, I grew up with an Asian grandmother and spent almost ten years working in a Chinese Restaurant where celebrations were held at Sushi Den. I have had my share of really great Yaki-Soba. Kenji Sushi gave me a Yaki-Soba that tasted like it was cooked in a pan that soap wasn't washed out completely or like all the ingredients were blanched in old water for longer than they needed too until even the meat tasted like nothing. Plus, it had an after taste like bad fish but not like fish sauce. The customer service at this point degraded. The waitress checked out and just left the table instead of offering to either remake the dish or take it off the bill. A man then came to my table stating I could take the leftovers with me. I refused and told him the food tasted off. Once again, the restaurant refused to take responsibility for the quality of their food and the man began to man-splain the differences between lo mein noodles and soba noodles. Please take your business elsewhere; they are not willing to take any accountability where 90% of the restaurants in the same area would have replaced or exchanged the meal for something else. Also, take into consideration that the Yaki-Soba is probably worth $3-$5 in ingredients to prepare and is sold for $13. There is mainly onions and noodles in the Kenji Sushi dish with maybe a tablespoon of chicken; julienne style. Very very good sushi. I was too chicken to try the sashimi from a place I'm not familiar with, so we just stuck to rolls. From the moment I ate the first roll, I was amazed with the quality and instantly regretted my decision of not getting sashimi! It tasted so fresh and flavorful all the rolls were gone real fast. My boyfriend really enjoyed the unagi rolls here while I really liked the dynamite roll. So this place is not your typical all you can eat place. They only give you one sheet per table. I was never really told the portion sizes for their appetizers. Other places are smaller portion sizes this place the appetizers are huge. If you don't finish them you will be charged. My total bill was $44. The super white tuna I did not eat because it was not fresh. It had a real fishy taste, and I know that white tuna does not have that kind of taste. When I told my server that the fish was not fresh and I was not going to eat it I was still charged for it. I'll probably stick to my other all you can eat Sushi restaurants. I don't have the highest standards for affordable sushi but I do look for rolls that are made properly and with a solid amount of fish in more expensive rolls. My order had neither of those. I got the red rainbow roll and the two fishes in the inside are so thin I had to look closer to make sure they were there. The tuna on the outside is also incredibly thin and bright pink and barely covers the top of the roll. My spicy tuna roll is filled sufficiently but it is neon pink which is a bit off putting and the only reason I'm eating it is because this place has enough other good reviews that I don't think I'll get sick. I also got the unagi roll and can't taste the eel at all because there is so little of it included. I am a big sushi lover and I eat sushi on almost an everyday basis haha! Being from Southern California, I enjoy all kinds of sushi. Whether it be from higher upscale restaurants to quick yummy bites, I enjoy it all. However, when it came to Kenji sushi, I was slightly disappointed. Though the taste was average (not bad but nothing too special) I was shocked by the size of the rolls I had ordered. Keeping in mind that since I ordered it through a third party delivery service it could've have been a bit pricier, the rolls I ordered were not the size of traditional rolls and were similar to size of that of a donut hole! I will give Kenji sushi another try and I'll probably go into the restaurant the next time but it didn't leave a lasting good first impression to say the least. read more

Checked out another sushi place using Groupon at Kenji Sushi. We got age dashi tofu, a few rolls (mango roll, ninja roll, caterpillar roll) and, teriyaki chicken and fried rice. I noticed that when you order age dashi tofu in Denver it's a firmer and more encrusted tofu. And the dashi is always separated. The rolls came out quickly and had a very nice presentation. My favorite was the ninja roll. The fried rice was alright but I was disappointed with the teriyaki chicken. The sauce was wayyy to sweet and it looked nothing like the picture in the menu.
