We used to live very close to this location, and I would take my son there to use the batting cages a couple of times a week The machines worked well and things were kept in good working order. Had a minor issue once that a staff member was able to resolve very quickly. Very disappointing experience at the mini golf due to poor customer service. While my family member did break a rule, the issue was HOW it was handled. The younger female employee with brown hair was sarcastic and rude instead of calmly and respectfully explaining the rule. The business is extremely rigid with its rules, yet the rules are not clearly posted or explained. There should be clear signage, and customers should be given the benefit of the doubt in a family-friendly setting. The owner has stated on previous reviews that there is "no polite way" to confront someone breaking the rules, which I strongly disagree with. In a family-friendly business, staff should be trained to address issues clearly, respectfully, and without sarcasm or hostility. Unless you want people to start boycotting your business. Even after paying, the attitude continued from their female staff member who was working in the Pro Shop and then we were not allowed to speak with the owner. The KVIC is a complete facility with lots of fun activities for the entire family. We have ice skated in many places before and we are never disappointed here. The facility is super clean, the staff and instructors are amazing and super friendly and the prices are unbeatable. $18 for 2 hours of skating! My youngest has taken learn to skate lessons here and we were extremely satisfied. He loves to minigolf and is always asking when we can go mini golfing with our friends at the Center again. 100% worthy. 100% recommend it. read more

I wish I could share the wonderful experiences others have mentioned, but after five years of regular visits to Kent Valley Ice Centre, I've seen little more than a facility stuck in neutral offering the bare minimum while asking families to expect even less. The name Centre suggests something elevated, a place of quality service and community. Unfortunately, that promise ends at the door. Did you see the no outside food sign? In five years, we've seen no meaningful improvements to the facility or genuine support for youth hockey programs. The owner seems pleasant in passing, but leadership is nonexistent. The director appears disengaged, it may be time for him to retire, and the unpleasant older woman who often lurks in the front seems far less interested in serving customers than in telling them what they can't do. Helpful? No. Hospitable? Not even close. Customer service is consistently lacking. When you enter the pro shop, don't expect a hello or even eye contact. The culture here is clear: the customer is an interruption. If you raise a concern, you're likely to be told in an indigent and direct manner that your opinion doesn't matter. And if you push any further or give them a heads-up that experiences like these are driving people away, the response is simple: "The door is behind you, and the street is outside." The facility's rules are rigid, enforced with the charm of a traffic violation, and make little sense given the lack of amenities. Outside food is prohibited, yet the food court is rarely, if ever, open. This leaves families, especially those with kids skating for multiple hours, with no access to nutrition unless they smuggle it in or starve it out. Nevermind the tired parents surviving on fast food leftovers after working their jobs all day and making sure their kids get to the fun stuff. We're hungry too. Bathrooms are another low point. Paper towels are regularly missing, and when your kid ends up with a bloody nose, good luck finding anything to clean up with. Again, don't expect sympathy, just another reminder that your concerns aren't welcome here or rather a focus on HOW the bloody nose occured. Kent Valley Ice Centre is a place that runs entirely on its own terms. There's no sense of investment, no community-building, and certainly no effort to make the facility a place families want to be. What could be a thriving center for youth hockey feels instead like a cautionary tale in poor leadership and missed opportunity. It's time for a change! New ownership, new energy, and a new commitment to the people who keep this place afloat. Until then, come prepared, with low expectations, a full cooler in your car, and a thick skin. read more

!!PLEASE LISTEN TO THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS!!!!!! Sitting in my car in the ice centre's parking lot writing this because it could not wait. My husband and I have both come here multiple times as children (20 years ago) and had great memories. We thought it would be fun to take our 3 year old to check out the place and inquire about possibly having his birthday party here. As soon as we walk in, a young lady comes out toward the front desk and immediately looks confused as to why we're there. We tell her we'd like to check the place out and possibly have our son's birthday there if they do parties. She says there's currently a hockey session taking place so we couldn't check out the skating rink and they don't do birthday packages anymore and that people usually just come and skate after going to Kent station beforehand. She then said they have room rentals "but they're pretty expensive." My husband and I both looked at each other and just left. Being "greeted" by someone so condescending who spoke with rudeness in her voice the entire time was APPALLING. Absolutely terrible customer service. read more

Owner's daughter's car is consistently parked in a fire zone during every morning public session. She apparently think she's above the law, makes up reasons to "ban" people from the facility, and does not honor the City of Kent's Senior Skate program at all - no sign in, no age check or showing of ID. This facility would benefit from ownership that is free from nepotism. The only reason I skate there is because of the free ice they are required to provide via their contract with the City of Kent, but they don't even honor that. read more

I'm pretty sure in the 20 minutes that it took us to play all 18 hole, I did more maintenance work which involve shoving leaves off of the green then the staff has done in the past three months. Although couldn't ask too much from a place that kinda looked more like a warehouse from the outside with a machine yard for baseball pens than anything else. I guess if you're only here with a five-year-old they might actually enjoy the course anybody older than that will realize you're just shooting the same two types of holes over and over and over. I've been to this rink twice- The first time, I came with some friends a few weeks ago and decided to rent some ice skates because I wasn't sure if I wanted to commit to buying a pair of my own yet. I'm an avid roller skater and have well over a thousand dollars worth of skating gear, and couldn't justify spending more on a whole other hobby. Let me tell you, the rental skates were so bad they actually cut my foot right open after only 10 minutes of skating because of the friction from the hard plastic. Apparently most rink rentals suck, so I just took my L and bought my own skates for next time. The second reason I gave this place 4 stars is because it's SO expensive. Maybe I'm spoiled because roller skating rinks are less than $10 for entry *per session*, but paying $20 for just one hour and 15 minutes is wild to me. I asked around and my figure skating friends tell me this is a bit steep for most ice skating rinks in general. As for the rink itself, the staff are kind and professional. It's the only rink in the area open for public skate during COVID and even though they don't require masks, everyone is socially distanced well and wears them anyway. There was also only two other people on the ice the first visit, and about 7/8 on the second visit. You get plenty of room to fall all over the place, which is nice! Overall, I would definitely come back again if it weren't so ridiculously expensive. I also realized that I'm not a fan of such a cold indoor space (I couldn't feel my hands after an hour, but it's literally a room full of ice so that can't be avoided.) If you decide to come, bring your own skates and budget for it if you're bringing kids...and also bring gloves! read more

If you PAY to use the batting cages or anything else there, you should be able to take your kids rogue restroom. My kids love to ice skate and this location is the closest in the area. They enjoyed the open skate session. It was a little crowded likely because all the kids are out of school so it was to be expected. They don't charge admission for parents that just want to watch which is a nice feature and they have a cafe with windows to sit where it's nice a warm. Or warmer than down by the ice. My only issue is that it seems a little expensive at $11 admission and then $4 for skates. With a family of five it's not something we can afford to do very often. Took my daughter there for the public ice skating on a Saturday and completely expected to see John Q. Public types of folks skating around. What I did NOT expect was fully suited hockey players practicing moves on the rink while said John Q. Public types were trying to skate! This was not the time for them to be practicing, AT ALL. People were falling down around them trying to avoid getting hit, my daughter included. Watching paint dry would be a preferable experience than the one we had to endure at the Kent Valley Ice Center last night and to say it was the worst customer experience in my life" is an understatement and should give some indication of how bad this business is run. In all fairness, there were just a few moments that went smoothly, the front door works for example. The lights were on. The air was breathable.   After checking in, it became fairly obvious that the equipment has been poorly maintained because the skates just did not cut the ice at all. After inspection the skates we were issued had never been sharpened. The blades were flat as though they were fresh out of the box. One revolution on the ice and the entire family concurred that they were all having the same issue.   To say that this family-owned business and its staff could not care less of the concerns expressed cannot be overstated. The arrogance and condescension, not to mention the scowls that I was even addressing the skate's condition was dismissed with comments like, "Hundreds of people skate here weekly and use the same skates," and "We don't sharpen the blades because people will cut themselves", and it seemed reasonable enough to request a refund but even that became a cumbersome chore. "What I'm gonna need to do is to talk to the guy at the register," not an ounce of empathy, not one sense of apologetic regret, there was nothing but annoyance that anything was being brought up to begin with.   In fact, the defiant disrespect is what triggered this review; berating my girlfriend and egging her to "write a Yelp review, if you have a problem with it". Another employee - an older gentleman - attempted to rectify the situation by getting another pair of skates but the first employee intercepted him and denied him offering assistance and potentially remedying the entire ordeal. The employee trying to help just shrugged his shoulders and shook his head saying, "I just work here", as we all stood there in disbelief.   Trying to secure the refund was no easy feat, every employee (with the exception of the older gentleman) was smug, dismissive and there was just this air of disrespect that lingered in the atmosphere as if, "How dare we?" They even went so far as to quip, "Why don't you just buy your own skates, instead of using the loaners?"   They were angling for an argument, and I didn't feel the need to give them the satisfaction, and he went on to say, "Well, good luck with my Dad," as if, now the refund was not an option anymore. Begrudgingly, "Dad" fulfils the request with "son" lurching in the background with this disdainful look of dissatisfaction.   Being a business owner myself, supporting local businesses is part of our ecosystem, but this experience has made this business the exception to the rule. The disrespect, the arrogance and the defiance led me to believe that this wasn't the first complaint they received and most likely won't be the last, but one thing is for certain; I will never return, and I would advise against anyone doing business with this skating rink in the future.    On a personal note, family-owned businesses are the lifeblood of most communities and a successful business benefit everyone but the unprofessionalism and the treatment, behaving as if my family's experience, or concerns or safety was beneath them was appalling and I had pity that the "Dad" in this scenario had "kids" representing his legacy like this. read more

On a whim, I bought a Groupon for this place on Black Friday and visited here because it was about to expire. When my boyfriend and I arrived, we were funneled into a line where the cashier deals with one party at a time before you can enter through the gate. It wasn't too long of a wait to speak with her, but I felt bad for the long line that starting forming behind us. She was very helpful. We just had to pay sales tax (never had a Groupon deal make me pay sales tax when I arrived, so that was a little weird). The staff member at the skate rental place was super friendly and nice. Quite frankly, these were some of the worst skates I've ever put my feet in. I used to skate competitively as a kid, so I had my own skates and unfortunately outgrew then. The skates felt like stiff plastic containers for your feet. It was so painful to skate around, so I went back to the skate rental counter and asked for another pair. The guy said he only had that one type of skate but could help me find another pair or a slightly bigger size. Neither one did the trick, so since it was so painful on my feet, I just put my shoes back on and let my boyfriend skate around on his own. Even those temporary skate rinks that go up in parks have more comfortable skates! Anyway, the facility seemed really nice. There's ample viewing areas and an upstairs cafe. It was off putting that the only restroom was upstairs at the back of the cafe. I would think there should be one more accessible near the ice rink. The cafe upstairs was absolutely horrible. I very rarely give low ratings to places because I like giving people the benefit of the doubt and have worked at a restaurant before, but this place was ridiculous. The cashier was extremely rude and very slow to take orders. There was only one person in front of us, and she had to call someone else over to help her figure out how much change to give back to the customer. It took forever! Then, she wasn't very nice to my boyfriend or me. We wanted just mozzarella sticks without a pound of fries, but they can't sell it by itself... So we just ordered tacos instead. The tacos took about 20 minutes to get to us, and they were horribly over fried. I would be better off going to Taco Bell (and I really dislike Taco Bell). It was $10 for 3 tacos and a soda, and it was definitely not worth it. All of the food on the menu was pretty over priced, but that's what you get at these types of places. Just really horrible service. I tried connecting to the wifi using the posted password in the cafe, and it never worked. There was barely any cellphone reception inside. Overall, pretty negative experience. I'll be skating at the Renton ice rink from now on. read more

Went to watch a hockey game with my SERVICE DOG on 8/14 and they asked me to leave. Stating that they had a no "pets or service animal" policy. After telling them I know my rights as a disabled person, the employee let me know that the manager has their "own rules" and i would need to contact them. But i was interfering with HIS JOB (we were just sitting on the concrete steps. My SERVICE DOG laying down at my feet) and he couldn't do anything for me. After leaving a voicemail on both numbers given I have still not received a call back!!!! So just incase anyone needs their SERVICE DOG with them at all times. This is NOT THE PLACE. Will never be coming back and spreading the word about the ILLEGAL injustice that happened. I attached photos of their signs stating no pets but A SERVICE DOG IS NOT A PET. This is by far, the absolute worst ice skating rink in the Seattle Metropolitan Area. The staff act like secret police force monitoring the slightest ice infraction. They have video games from the 1980s, and complain when children climb in them. They are unwelcoming and not understanding of autistic children. On two occasions we know of so far, the staff..."cough..ehem...Bri****y...cough" literally called Child Protective Services because an autistic child ran out of the facility and the parent used a single act of physical discipline to get in the car. The kids working here know nothing of customer service. The floors are dirty, the games are antique, the staff are teenagers. My advice: Go to Son King ice in Renton. They have cute Seals the kids can push around. Kent Valley cares so little about skating children that they won't get seals. Moreover, they check stamps on every hand like the Gestapo. I've been coming down here a bit more than I used to--and this place is certainly growing on me. Last weekend I got my skates sharpened here, and the woman who did it let me know that my last sharpening job was kind of a hack, and corrected my blade. I skated on them for the first time today and it was NIGHT AND DAY difference. I will likes be getting my skates sharpened here heretofore. Went here with my boys a few weeks ago to check out the ice, and they loooooved it! Service was exceptional and they were very helpful and attentive with my little one who was new to the ice. Bethany and I believe Chris (the guy that cleans the ice?) took very good care of us. Thank you kindly! They have kept their prices for public skating and what have you at limited capacity pandemic prices when other rinks have gone back to the actual admission prices they should be at. $20 for any age group for a public skating admisssion is abysmal, Kent management you should be ashamed of yourselves, the only rink that should be allowed to charge such a rate should be climate pledge arena lol. Went last week. I am used to high quality facilities with great ice - like Tacoma twin rinks, which is state of the art. This place charged $20 for an hour of public skating (I did not rent skates) and did not even Zamboni the ice before the session. PUblic skating was on rough, used, scraped ice. For comparison, Sprinker rink in Spanaway charges $9 for public skating with your own skates, and their ice is pristine. Their rental skates looked painful. Batting cages were super inconsistent. The worst part was the service. My fiance, my son and I simply went out to practice. There was an older gentleman that wasn't very informative on any equipment which we worked around. Unfortunately it got worse when the young lady came out to hang reserve signs, I walked towards her to ask where the restrooms were. She asked if I was batting and I chuckled and said yes because WE WERE STANDING IN FRONT OF THE CAGES. She clearly took my chuckle personally because she responded with, telling me I had an attitude and told me to FIND THE BATHROOMS MYSELF. This place might be okay during non Covid times, but in the middle of the Omicron no one working there was wearing masks and half of the people skating did not have masks. We arrived right at the beginning of the open skate skate session and it got more and more crowded which is fine, but when half of the people didn't have masks I was out. It was also dirty. Icy ice!! This is one of the bigger/ better ice rink in Seattle area. It has a restaurant/ bar/ cafe upstairs. It also have miniature golf outside. Thunderbird country!! As you frequent the ice rink in the areas, you'll notice the difference on how they are maintained, seating areas as well as locker rooms and rest rooms. This one has an actual arena like seating and they are cement seats! Dress warmly!! It is also very family friendly. I come here for hockey games and seen kids running all over from previous public /free skating session. It gets distracting at time but hey, it's a fun zone. Everyone can go nuts! They also have few arcade games like air hockey, ladder tags and so on. Another distraction! :) it's also one of the colder rink. You better dress warm if you come here. Or if you can't take the cold, go upstairs and watch it from the cafe. You won't hear anything or won't be able to yell out. Where's the fun in that!! I decided to come here since it was on Groupon. The service was NOT great. The staff was not friendly nor welcoming. I took 7 kids. They didn't have walkers for the kids to use on the ice, so the whole time they went in circles holding on to the edge. The rental ice skates were really worn out. I did enjoying ice skating maybe because I was with my family. After we were done we went upstairs to take the kids to eat. The gentleman Josh working the snack store was very rude. The vibe I got from him was "he didn't like his job and didn't want to be there" Groupon gave us a $25 credit for food so we ordered 2 pizzas and that was already $30. I must have spent $40 in just quarters because the food took so long and I needed to keep the kids busy. I won't comes here again and I would not recommend this place. read more

Great ice rink too bad about the staff. Seriously, the ice here is wonderful. It's cold and clean and some of the best ice to ever set your blades on. It's worth the trip to go skate on some excellent ice. They have a huge building, with a warm restaurant for the thin bloods, a small pro shop (not great selection), and a fun arcade (skee ball). The drawbacks are the staff is basically a bunch of 12-14 yr olds who really have no idea what they doing. And their customer service blows. Which is why despite how good the ice is here, it's a huge annoyance to have to deal with them. Another small complaint is the concrete seating. If you come to watch a hockey game, bring something warm to sit on or expect a numb butt. read more

I bought a groupon for my family to use on mini golf. The pics looked nice and we were excited to come to an outdoor course. It was not as expected, we were highly disappointed first by the small size of the greens and course itself but mostly by the sad state of overall upkeep of the course. There are weeds and trash throughout the supposedly landscaped areas. The lights are not working, the fountains have no water in them and the ponds that do have some water are full of algae and mud along with trash. I would not recommend the mini golf to anyone and we won't be coming back. And to top it off I had to pay sales tax when I presented the groupon which I've never heard of before with any groupon and it wasn't in the fine print. read more

I've lived here for quite a while but never bothered to come inside. It definitely has that charm of a small town's only source of entertainment that you only see in movies so as far as the ice skating and batting cages are concerned, I highly recommend the place for dates. Some of their batting machines weren't working properly when we came but someone came out right away to fix it which is definitely the definition of good service. The establishment has very weird hours to say the least and you definitely should check the website and maybe confirm with a phone call if the rink is open to the public. They offer complimentary skates, and you do need to rent the lockers yourselves. I think the only improvement you could make is if they updated their music catalog. read more

I've been to the Kent Valley Ice Centre several times, either to watch the little league hockey games or go ice skating. Every time I've gone I've had a pretty good experience, but that's mostly because I haven't had to have much interaction with employees. The employees are kind of snarky though, but that was just the experience I had the last time my boyfriend and I went ice skating. They have a little cafe here, offer ice skating sharpening, and even have a mini golf course. If you're looking for a new date night idea, or even something to do with your family, Kent Valley Ice Centre is a pretty solid, affordable choice. Only reason I give it a three is because the employees, as mentioned, are kind of snarky, and the facility itself is definitely outdated. read more

Their putt-putt course was amazing by the way! So many hazards and challenges it was so worth it. The batting cages was a great source of competition for couples and singles alike.
