We were wandering around Key West and we decided to get some key lime pie. Honestly, this was the first place I've seen that had key lime pie in the name, I'm sure there's plenty of bakeries around Key West. From the outside, I saw the yellow bike rack shaped as a bike. The shop was small but packed with souvenirs. We went to the back and ordered a slice of key lime pie. What was a turn off was the negative clerk; we were making small talk stating wow you're lucky to live in paradise. He was so negative and was bashing Key West, he's entitled to his opinion but that brought down the overall moral and ambiance. Whomp whomp. As for the pie, it was okay. Not the best I've had but not the worst. It was too tart for my liking, like really sour. There were a couple of tables inside to enjoy your pies. Overall, it's an okay spot; next time I would have to check out other key lime pie spots in the area. read more

Obviously you want the best key lime pie in Key West and this one certainly one of them. There isn't exactly "one pie to rule them all" because some like it sweeter and some like it more tart etc- but the KLP here was agreed by our whole group to be a strong contender for overall best. Service not good! Looked and sounded like Japanese women employee. Because of my 2 year old baby I had to take out my credit card 2 more times to purchase in that store. Is she in a bad mood!? Or did she wanted tip!? 2nd time I purchased she started to be rude! Many places, if the amount is small, you don't have to sign. Some credit card companies just do that. This place is same, no sign needed only tip and total you have to write. I didn't tip her. She looked at the merchant recipe and her attitude and voice changed when I went up 2more times to purchase. Very mediocre Key Lime pie! We checked Google and saw good reviews but it's so disappointing. We tried a few bites and threw it in the garbage. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone!!! And to respond to the owner's response: It may be that not many people enjoy Key lime pie but I do!! I know what great Key Lime pie tastes like. The crust should be thicker and have a more complex taste, and the filling should be creamier and more citrusy. Your Key Lime pie tastes overwhelmingly like sugar, with very little tart lime flavor. Are you really in Key West if you don't try Key Lime Pie? After hunting down where key lime pie was created, I fell upon this bakery. The outside was beautiful, as seen in the photos. There was extremely limited seating inside the bakery, however, there was a lot of things to buy! If you're looking for souvenirs, this bakery also sells those (shot glasses, license plates, postcards, keychains, etc). The Key Lime Pie, however, was FANTASTIC!!! Was never into key lime pie but when in Key West you have to try it where it came from. So off we went just a couple minutes walk from Mallory Square. Good thing we checked in first or we will have never seen the dollar off any slice of pie or pie bar check in special. Since wifey is the dessert person she got a slice of key lime pie(duh) and a chocolate covered key lime pie. I thought both pies were really good and a 4 star review was earned. It wasn't until we got back to Orlando and had key lime pie at another restaurant that I realized that what I had in Key West was the absolute best. So based off of that, every time I have key lime pie anywhere now this place was the measuring stick I hold it up to. They have a lot of other things too. Anything that has to do with key lime and coconut it there. From key chains to lotions, hot sauces, sweets, soap, candles, etc. So if its your first time in Key West, there a handful of places that you are supposed to go to that if you didnt go there, your trip will be classified as a total fail. The sole employee (the owner?) working at this place was miserable. So grumpy from the moment we walked in. She needs some help and maybe a vacation. I'd overlook the service but the ice cream and key lime pie were just as bad. The pie was as bitter as the lady handing it to me. The ice cream maybe Breyers quality and a selection of 8 flavors. Just the right amount of flakey crust for me with a nice rich coconut custard and a thin topping layer, I hate it when the topping is three times more than the rest of the pie. Everything is made right there on site, and if you come early enough you can watch the kitchen work behind the plexiglass wall. Damn good Key Lime Pie at the only spot I could find with a plaque actually touting this bakery was the birthplace of same in 1856! The selection of flavored goodies - baked goods, ice cream, cookies, candy, etc. - was substantial. The slice itself was around $7. Delicious!
