I had a situation where I used both Mike and GE. My GE freezer stopped working and I was desperate to get it serviced ASAP. I usually use GE service but they didn't have anyone available for 2 weeks. So I called Mike, based on the Yelp reviews, to fix my refrigerator as well as a broken hinge on my oven. Mike was very quick to respond and knowledgeable. He said he can fix the oven but not the refrigerator. As a courtesy, I decided to give him the oven job although I had GE coming the following week and also recognizing that I would have to pay a bit more for both services. But I didn't expect it to be so expensive! Mike worked on changing the hinges for approximately 20 minutes but the total bill was $475! He charged me $75 for diagnosing the oven, and $75 for the refrigerator that he didn't fix. The parts only cost $120 but the service was astronomical $350. I've used many services living in this house for 16 years but never felt like I got ripped off like I did with Mike. read more

Mike has helped me twice. The first time was for my convection oven. The second was for my refrigerator, which was not staying cold. He's honest.He offers up things you can do yourself before charging to replace parts. For the fridge, he told me to turn it and off and unplug it for 24 hours, which gave me an 80% chance of fixing it. It worked! The next step would have been to order a fan and a control panel and pay about $300. He could have easily gone right there and I would have had to wait and to pay more. The fridge at my work was having some kind of electrical problem so I emailed with Mike and arranged a time for him to come that worked with my busy schedule. Mike was promptly here at the time we had agreed which was great, I work with a lot of vendors and many are often very late. Mike came and diagnosed our refrigerator (broken icemaker) and our double oven (broken door latch), both Thermador. I had called Thermador initially, who advised me $129 trip charge, and $35 for every 15 minutes thereafter, plus parts IF they were available. The deal-breaker was a three-week wait for service. I have never had a better communication or reliability experience with a repair service as I did with Mike at KH. We communicated via email, he was here when he said he would be, he was very clear upfront with what the charges would be, credited the diagnosis charge against the labor charge on the second visit, fixed everything quickly and efficiently, and I had a detailed receipt emailed to me before he left. While fixing the oven, he found another issue, and let me know ahead of time there would be an additional $50 labor charge for the unanticipated problem. Gave me advice and tips on maintenance to keep my appliances lasting longer. He's not a big gabber but is very professional and quietly friendly. As for a few complaints I've seen here about him getting the work done too fast for the labor charge - that is simply not fair. The work I do, I do very well and very fast and very efficiently. If you pay me the same hourly rate as you pay the person who does the work less efficiently and takes a lot longer, you are effectively penalizing me for my efficiency and expertise. Good tradespeople, mechanics, technicians know what they're doing and a good one does a job quickly and efficiently, and gets it right the first time. That ability is worth something. By the way, I had called and cancelled the Thermador repair right after I called Mike. A Thermador repairman called three weeks later to tell me he'd be there the next morning so I had to call back and tell him I had already cancelled that appointment two weeks previous - that communication problem is my usual experience, but not with KH. read more

We recently contacted Mike of KH Appliance regarding a water leak we had in our built-in refrigerator. Prior to calling KH Appliance, we called a well-known appliance repair company. They identified the water leak but was unable to make the repair due to the original part was no longer available. It was against their policy to replace an original part with a replacement part; therefore, they could not make the repair. Nevertheless, I was charged for a service call. Mike responded back very shortly after I made the call. He requested that I send him an email him regarding the problem. He got back to me shortly afterwards and made an appointment to come to my home to access the problem. He responded as promised and quickly identified the leaks. There actually were two separate leaks. He was able to repair one of the leaks and needed to order a part for the other leak. When the part arrived, he promptly made the repair as arranged.
