Another excellent meal and stellar service from the time we called in our order to the time we picked up our food, about 25 minutes. It appears there is indoor dining now and nice tables outside as well. The restaurant wasn't crowded and there was only one table of three when we picked up our order. I know they do a busy takeout business, not sure about how much of a dinner crowd there is. Can't wait to actually dine in again. This time I tried the Pad Prik King with chicken ($13): stir fired chili paste with green beans, bell pepper and green onion. Asked for it mild because I'm, you know, a wimp. I opted for the brown rice ($2.50) over the white rice. Very generous portion (had leftovers for the next day). Husband had the Som Tum Thai (green papaya salad) ($10) that he says is almost as good as the now closed Pok Pok and the Tom Yum Goong with shrimp ($14): a popular Thai soup made with mushrooms, tomatoes, lemongrass, galangol, kiffir lime leaves, and chili paste, topped with cilantro and green onions. He asked for his without the evaporated milk, a less creamy version. We also shared an order of Khao Yai Wings ($12): five wings tossed in a slightly sweet tamarind sauce. We asked for the wings to be medium spicy and they were perfect, even for a heat wimp like me. Nothing to be afraid of. Next visit I'm ordering the Khao Soi because of all the raves in others' reviews. I'm so happy Khao Yai Thai seems to be thriving in the Progress Ridge shopping center. I really wanted to like this restaurant as it's so close to my house, and had very good reviews, but unfortunately it was a total miss. I have no idea why it's rated so high. We ordered Pad Thai, Pad See Ewe, Thai Fried Rice, and Yellow Curry (this is what we always get at Thai restaurants) and it's like they forgot to add the flavor. Everything was extremely bland. The yellow curry was the best of the four items but even still it was mid tier at best. The Pad Thai looked more like spaghetti, the noodles were thin almost like Pho noodles, and it was oddly sweet and again lacking in flavor. The fried rice was extremely bland. The Pad See Ewe was the worst of all, especially because it looked perfect, but was deceptively void of flavor. It just tasted like egg noodles. My husband and I both wondered if they forgot to add a sauce. On the plus side it was easy to call in a phone order, it was ready within 20 minutes, and the staff was very attentive. Like I said I really wanted to like this place but the food was just a major disappointment. We spent $56 and usually eat leftovers of Thai food for a day or two, but we stopped eating it for dinner and don't want to eat it for leftovers. read more

This was our first time trying Thai in Beaverton and we were not disappointed! Also they're dog friendly for their patio are, I mean how can you not go? We started with the crab rangoon and they were to die for! They didn't skimp out any of the filling. That Rangoon was as stuffed as it could be! The dipping sauce wasn't your average same old sauce, it was a sweet and sour sauce with a great depth of flavor. Not your typical cherry looking sauce The Pad Thai is absolutely delicious! My husband got the tofu version and it held on to the flavor and was not bland! The noodles were a lot thinner than the regular pad Thai noodles but no complaints!! 10000% recommend!!! my husband got the medium spice which is perfect for spice lovers!! I've been on a search for the best Basil fried rice and so far, this lands top 3! It was cooked perfectly! An insane amount of flavor topped with a crispy fried egg! I got the hot spice and it was definitely hot! Don't get hot unless you like a little sweat with your food.... Lastly, I have to mention - the service was AMAZING. I used to love this place. It is sad that the freshness of the food was bad (salad was mix of wilted or rotten lettuces, cucumbers, and carrots), beef steak was very tough. The taste has been changed in a wrong way. Table and chairs were spotted with food residue so I had to clean before I sit. I asked a wet towel and the server gave me a couple of towel for me to clean up never saying sorry. It used to be good but not nowadays. read more

This is my favorite Thai Kitchen but they are losing my enthusiasm and likely business because of the raised prices and diminished portions. Truly not worth the cost. It's not run home tell ya mama good but definitely tasty. The service has gone down too. Almost like they feel they're doing you a favor?? I think not. I can cook too however I enjoy eating out and trying new dishes. Feeling unappreciated and ripped off will certainly end the business relationship . My husband and I ordered dinner from here and while somethings were more tasty than others but pretty average in the thi kitchens I've been too. I ordered online where that was prompt and on time for pick up. We ordered: - The calamari with spicy mayo ( this was tasty but overall slightly fishy, chewy and the batter had a gritty texture) - Tofu and veg pad kee Mao (mild, but still very spiced, great flavor and texture) - Crying tiger ( medium rare, the best thing we ate. Very tender and flavorful wish we had more of that chili sweet sauce) - Yellow chicken curry ( also ordered mild but really spicy) and for the last item; - Chicken traditional fried rice ( onion, green beans, carrot, basil, egg, and the odd cooked one cherry tomato. Overall: I can see how this place tried to add their own unique touch on the food, with the two dishes we ordered in particular, I didn't find it to quite work. Atmosphere: Casual and quiet dining area. Very clean and calm. There is plenty of seating, mainly for smaller group. Food: I would love to come back so that I can try some more of the dishes because a lot of them sounded very good! I got the Pad Thai with Chicken and it was good, but not my favorite. The noodles were not the traditional flat noodles, but rather they were thinner, which I didn't like. There was also a lot of noodles and not a lot of chicken. I also found the dish to be a little bland. Either it needed more sauce or the sauce itself was missing ingredients that make it the traditional pad Thai flavor that I love. Also wish there was crushed peanuts. Overall, I won't not get the pad Thai again. -The other dish I tried was the Pad Khe Mao which includes green peppercorn, bell peppers, fresh chili, and sweet basil leaves. The cook who made our dish must have added too much chilli because the dish was VERY SPICY. I can handle spicy, but that was too much, taking away from the rest of the ingredients and not allowing me to enjoy the dish like I had hoped. I was also surprised that the dish was spicy because on the menu they label how spicy each dish is and this one in particular didn't have any chilies to represent spicy. However, the presentation of the two dishes was wonderful (check out the photos and you'll see what I mean). Service: The girl who was our server was great. Maybe it was because we were the first customers of the day but she was super attentive, responsive, respectful and friendly. We've been getting food here routinely, at least twice per month (either DoorDash or in person) since it opened last year. Authentic Thai cuisine with excellent flavors and spice level! Would recommend getting the "mild spice" level if you are not used to Thai chili peppers as the medium and spicy can be pretty fire-y depending on who the chef is that day. Khao Soi and Pla Pad Cha (fried fish filet + spices) are our favorites. Fresh vegetables, authentic herbs, and excellent flavor! Giving 4/5 as the consistency in taste can vary depending on which day you go, and which chef is in the kitchen. But overall, a very solid Thai spot! read more

I usually get the Khao Soi and my partner really likes the Pork Belly dish. I also get the Pad Kee Mao (drunken noodles) and have gotten the Thai Iced Tea a few times. All of them are very delicious. One time my partner complained her pork belly had some soapy taste, but that was only once out of the four or so times we've had the dish. We usually get delivery or takeout, but we've been to the restaurant a few times during weekend lunch hours. The service is very good. The spiciness level isn't to the degree of spicy I'd expect, but it's definitely spicy, so if you get Thai spicy, expect quite the kick. Stopped in and and ordered three dishes to take out as it was a newer place and I was curious to try it with my family. We noticed they substituted carrots for green beans in one dish and book choy for broccoli in another dish. The food was flavorful but was disappointed with the substitutions as there was no mention of it while ordering. The take out box size of rice is very small. I couldn't be more excited about Khao Yai! I live directly above the restaurant and had watched their construction with at least moderate interest. A couple months after they opened we wandered in to test it out, and I think we've been back a half dozen times since then. Why? There hasn't been a menu item I've tasted here that hasn't been outstanding. Now, I will admit that I'm not terribly "learned" in a vast amount of Thai food, but all I can say is that their food is incredible. Couple quick hits: Moo Ping (BBQ Pork skewer marinated in evaporated milk, lemongrass and fish sauce served with sticky rice): Delightful. Comes with a cole slaw-y salad and a side of their Khao Yai sauce. The sauce is mostly sweet with the tiniest bit of heat (to me). I like to yard out some rice, roll it into a ball, coat the heck out of it in sauce and devour it, followed by chewing off part of one of the four skewers you get in primitive fashion. Sublime! Salad Rolls: These are quite good, if not very traditional, but why mess with perfection? I like to use these as a palate cleanser whilst paired with the above mentioned Moo Ping. Pro-tip: The salad rolls and Moo Ping are a meal unto themselves. Pad Thai: I've had both the tofu and beef versions. I'm just plain addicted to their pad thai. The noodles are on the thinner (think glass noodle) side compared to some of other sorta thick hand pulled versions I've had, and they compliment the dish nicely. Also on the side of sweet, but I like sweet and savory dishes. This hits all the marks. I've also had the Khao Yai crispy wings (they're HUGE) and Khao Sai curry. Both of which are outstanding. As for the space: we've only ever sat at the bar. There are 8 (I think) stools surrounding the register, and it's a vibrant, entertaining environment. I'm sure the actual dining room tables are fine, but I can't speak intelligently about those, because of the bar. They have a few beers on tap and some cocktails to choose from, which always enhance any meal, right? Finally, owner Gordon and wife Jang (I hope I spelled her name correctly) are friendly, pleasant, engaging folks. They, along with their staff, make every visit memorable. Now that I've finally come in for dine-in and I'm not picking up takeout, I figured I'd leave another review on my experience! My mum and I split the crab fried rice, pork belly basil, guay chay and calamari. Everything was super good and wow finally eating in has reminded me I really should dine in more often! Everything was so darn good and came out piping hot! Loved how crispy the guay chay was and I continue to be particularly obsessed with the crab fried rice because wow look at that soft shell crab on the top! Love going here for Thai food! Lots of parking since it's in the Progress Ridge shopping area. Very clean restaurant with big windows that let in natural light. Staff is friendly and checks in often. I always order the Pork Belly with Basil Leaf and Fried Egg which has such flavorful and crispy pork belly. The soft-shell crab on the Crab Fried Rice is wonderful. The Lime Mojito and the Mango Juice are both very refreshing. I also like how they have plenty of vegetarian options. Would highly recommend checking this spot out. read more

This place just went in across the street from me and I've been so excited to try it!! I had a great experience there last night. The food was DELICIOUS! Great sized portions, and it heated up well for leftovers too. The staff was so friendly. I had the Thai iced tea (which the give free refills of, amazing!) and the beef fried rice and it was so delicious and spicy! However, what an interesting choice of noodle for this dish--a ramen noodle... Definitely not the thick chewy egg noodle I'd expect. This thick noodle is actually on this soup as a fried garnish so not sure why ramen-like noodle is used which underwhelms the dish. read more

We have now placed to-go orders through Clover and overall have been satisfied. Quality control has declined. The last order was for lunch and our Chicken Pad Thai, Medium spice came with a significant portion of noodles dry, not soft and juicy as we had received in earlier orders. Also, the spice was incomplete and less than medium spice. The order today (August 1) for lunch had 2 problems: 1) our Pad Thai came with very little spice (The flavor was good though--just not medium spice as requested). 2) I ordered item #39: Crispy Chicken with Crispy Basil that comes with rice. We received no rice. To the owner(s) of Khao Yai Thai Kitchen. Your food is delicious, but you are not following through on delivering what we ordered. Please be more careful in the future otherwise, you may find your customer base shrinking, not growing. read more
