This year is different for me and my family. My uncle found out he had 2 types of leukemia this January. We visited him, called him, texted him, prayed for him, and brought food and drinks to him while he was undergoing chemotherapy. He passed away last month right before Thanksgiving, so no one in my family celebrated the holidays this year. Some of us chose to follow a vegetarian diet for our Buddhist beliefs. I have not consumed meat (this also includes seafood) since November 10th, so wherever I go I need to make sure they have no meat options. Thankfully we live in the Bay Area where doing that is pretty easy. This place was opened on Christmas Day. I have rice at home and a block of tofu, but I couldn't muster the energy to do anything as I'm still recovering from being sick - I need to go back to urgent care on 12/30 if I don't feel better. It seems as though I have pneumonia. Anyway. Very thankful that this place was open and that DoorDash made it all possible. I tipped the driver generously because they are working on a holiday plus the weather was gloomy with on/off rain. I ordered for Gavin 2 orders of egg fried rice and boiled pork wontons and for me I ordered scallion noodles, green onion pancake, and vegetarian spicy ma la noodles. I enjoyed the scallion noodles, the noodles were chewy. The green onion pancake was thin and crispy, which I thought were okay. The vegetarian spicy ma la noodles were not spicy, but it was quite comforting eating them on a holiday where I'm feeling sad. We have been trying other restaurants in the other area and Dough Zone was the next one on our list. When we arrived around lunch time on a weekday, it was pretty busy but managed to get seated with minimal wait. You can order from the staff or from a QR code. We had initially wanted to just give back the paper slip but it took a while and we ended up placing our order via the QR code. We started with the pork xiao long bar and pork & crab meat xiao long bao. Both were delicious and would order them again. Skin was thin and meat & soup was yummy. This is the highlight of our meal. We ordered the egg fried rice and it was decent. We also ordered the beef noodle soup. The broth was ok, noodle was overcooked and there was plenty of cubed beef that were tender. We also tried the beef pancake. Wrapper was crispy and flaky. Beef was ok. We also ordered the green onion pancake but did not come out and end up canceling it as we were done eating. Restaurant has a nice modern feel and a lot of wood elements. Well lighted. Overall, if you are craving for Xiao long bao, would come here than going to Valley fair for the more popular restaurant. Not my dumpling places. Minimal service. They didn't refill our water until I asked them whek I asked for the bill. Pork Xiao Long Bao: 3/5. Not enough soup in the inside. The wrap was thick. The pork had some "interesting" taste that I would not order again. Pork and crab Xiao Long Bao: 3.5/5. Same issues but without that interesting taste. Beef pies : 3.5/5. Very thin layer of beef inside, but tasty. Probably the best dish if they had more beef in the inside. Pan Fried Pork Buns: 2.5/5. The dough was thick. Not juicy enough in the inside. 5 spice beef shank: 3.5/5. Not bad. On the salty side. Not much spice. Noodle with onion soy sauce: 2/5. Taste ok. Very tiny portion. Two bites, and you are done. I've been to a few other Dough Zone locations but this was my first time at this one. My boyfriend and I had a great experience. Our server was so great. He was very friendly and checked up on us every now and then to make sure we were okay. The space is a decent size. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The food came out pretty quick too. The food was just as good as the other ones we've been too. We were a little sad that the chicken soup dumplings were out of stock since we couldn't eat the other ones due to our personal dietary restrictions. I almost never leave reviews, but after this experience, it felt necessary. We visited Dough Zone in South San Jose with pretty high expectations given how large and well-known the chain is, but unfortunately this was one of the worst restaurant experiences we've had in a long time. The food itself was average at best, around a 3/5. We initially ordered four dishes: the Pork Xiao Long Bao, Pork & Shrimp Potstickers, Beef Pancake Roll, and Green Onion Soy Sauce Noodles. The Green Onion Soy Sauce Noodles came out after about 15 minutes, and the Xiao Long Bao came roughly 10 minutes later. Nothing came out after.  About 30 minutes in, we also ordered fried rice since we were so hungry, but that didn't come out either. Only 40 minutes later did a waiter finally approach us after we were sitting there for long. We voiced our concern, but nothing really happened afterward and no explanation or apology was given. We would also hear them approaching other tables that were seated after to apologize , but not us. Another waiter came by about 10 minutes later. We voiced our concerns again, and only then did the fried rice and potstickers finally arrive shortly after that. The Beef Pancake Roll still took another 20 minutes after speaking with the waiters. By the time all the food finally arrived, we were completely frustrated and disappointed. The service was incredibly disorganized, slow, and inattentive from start to finish. We left immediately after eating and honestly felt very unsatisfied with the entire experience. What makes this especially disappointing is that Dough Zone is such a large chain with many locations, so we expected at least a baseline level of service and coordination. I heard about this place when scrolling DoorDash one day, however, I decided to visit it in person. The decor is cute, modern Asian and sleek. We came here after lunch rush around 3pm and ordered a bunch of food that were part of their favorites and must try's.There were a bunch of items that were out of stock and we were disappointed we weren't able to try it. We ordered the Dan Dan Noodles, Chicken Crispy Gyoza, Egg Fried Rice, Chicken Xia Long Bao, and Pork Xia Long Bao, and the Beef Pancake Roll. I am not a big pork eater so I was thoroughly happy they had Chicken Xia Long Bao. The chicken XLB were steamed to perfection with a wonderful broth. I honestly couldn't tell I was eating a non-pork XLB. The Dan Dan Noodles are one of the dishes they are known for. We were excited to try these as a bunch of places that we eat don't have this offering. We were rather disappointed because the noodles, on the printed menu, shows meat in it, however when we got it, there was no meat in the dish. The flavor was ok, I think the absence of the meat lended to the lack in flavor we were expecting. The beef pancake roll was stuffed with beef and provided a nice crunchy, flaky pancake against your palate. It was seasoned perfectly. It is quite a large roll and can be shared. The food was excellent and dishes came out quick. But I had to knockoff two star because the toilet had brown-buildup under the rim and looked like it wasn't cleaned properly in months. And how they handled a customer service mishap. I had lunch with my family and we asked for a refill on our tea from who we later learned was a trainee. When our server returned from their break they explained that the trainee was unaware that tea was charged per pot and indicated that it would be added to our bill. I feel that they passed the cost of a training mishap onto the customer for an item that cost the restaurant cents. With that said, it was off-putting to charge us after it was delivered for something that was trivial. The explanation after-the-fact was inadequate and made the entire dining experience very awkward since most other restaurants would have comped the second tea in that situation. It gives the perception that they were cheap and penny-pinching. Especially since it was a training breakdown. My recent experience was disappointing solely because of how they handled their mistake. I went to their website to order online and was redirected to DoorDash. I ordered Pork Xiao Long Bao, which are dumplings filled with pork, broth, and seasoning; Pan-fried Pork Buns; and a romaine salad with sesame dressing. The DoorDash app alerted me when my food was ready, which only took 10 or 15 minutes. When I went inside to pick it up, I was surprised to see how busy the restaurant was at 3:30pm in the afternoon. One of the waiters told me to go look for my food on the DoorDash shelf near the back of the restaurant. I thought that was a little odd and wondered if he thought I was a delivery driver picking up an order. I found my food without any issues. Unfortunately, I didn't like any of the items I ordered. The sesame dressing was so spicy that I couldn't eat the salad. As for the dumplings, I can't say why I didn't care for them other than personal preference. Was craving dumplings tonight and decided to try Dough Zone for take out tonight after it was recommended by a friend. I used the mobile ordering on their website and found it to be easy and user friendly. The order was ready right on time when it said it would be and pick up was seamless. I found the food to be tasty, but it fell a bit short when compared to other exceptional dumpling places in town. However, the prices are far more affordable, no giant crowds, and the food still really satisfied my craving so it was worth it! The chicken fried rice (3/5) was probably my least favorite thing I ordered. It was missing the traditional taste of a a fried rice for me and was underwhelming. I would pass on this next time. Chicken XLB soup dumplings (4/5), delicious broth, perfect amount of chewy texture and flavor. Hit the mark but didn't surpass it. Lastly, the Dan Dan noodles (5/5) were very good! Pretty full house when i came by myself on a Sunday afternoon around 3pm after a golf lesson. The service was very good even as a single diner. I've been to the one in Cupertino which is a little bigger. U can order thru scan or paper, i like paper. Ordered the pork xiao long bao , cucmbers, and dan dan noodles. They give hot water. We've walked by this place a bunch of times but never thought to try it out. We were craving some xiao long bao's but didn't want to drive to valley fair and/or wait a long time to go eat at Din Tai Fung so we decided to give this place a try.. I am so glad we found this place because it is simply awesome! Slightly smaller space with ample seating. They have a simple menu which resembles going to a traditional dim sum restaurant - a small paper which you can check off individual items you want. Although it isn't a complete dim sum menu, it definitely has enough. We decided to order the pork xiao long bao, high tail shrimp and pork steam dumplings, sesame cold noodles and steamed broccoli. The pork xiao long bao checked off all the boxes - flavorful soup, wrap stayed in tact, and the pork was delicious, good texture and not overcooked. Goes perfectly with the minced ginger and vinegar. My favorite was the sesame cold noodles. The noodles were al dente, had a perfect chew, the sauce was perfectly balanced and all the toppings added to the texture of each bite. The portion was not overly big but the lower price point matched it. The steamed broccoli was good, although I wish they had broccolini but it was good to have a break between all the saltiness. Lastly, wasn't overly impressed with the high tail shrimp dumplings, shrimp was slightly over cooked. The service was prompt and friendly and they also had some cool lunch specials too. I came here again last night for dinner and also had a great experience so it's 2/2 for me. I've never been to Dough Zone in the Bay Area before this, and the food was just as enjoyable and affordable as I remember it. Being able to try 6 different quality dishes for ~$60 is a win in my book. This visit I had the below (the first 3 being my highlights): - Sweet & sour cucumber - Spicy beef pancake roll - Pork xiao long bao - Chicken pan fried potstickers - Pan fried pork buns - Dan dan noodles Our server was incredibly friendly and enthusiastic which set an amazing tone for the meal. The only thing I wish was different is that I felt that the tables were a bit too close together, which made for a pretty noisy ambiance during the meal. Going to reduce by 1 star due to inadequate service level. As mentioned before, the food itself was decent but I didn't like the tipping practices. Well, family wanted XLB and this place was the closest. I agreed to do online order for takeout. On the checkout page to confirm the order, it also asked for the Tips amount. After I confirmed, a pop-up window told me one of the items was not available. I removed it, confirmed, and what I didn't realize until too late, the Tips amount was not updated! It was still showing 10% number based on the previous total before I removed the unavailable item. Too late now. Didn't want to make it a big deal. I got there, asked the server about my order, was told it was not ready. Waited for 15 minutes. My fault for waiting that long. No update from the server. Darn doom scrolling social media got me to lose track of time. I finally asked a 2nd server. He went to check and a couple minutes later came out with my order ... or so I thought. I was about to leave but noticed the number of boxes in the bag did not feel right. Went back in and confirmed I was given the wrong one. He went to check and simply picked up another bag from the Takeout shelves, which I noticed had been there since I first walked in. So much for "To Insure Proper Services" .... The wait can be long-- for a table if it's that time of day or week, for the food (I think there was about 10-15 minutes between getting our noodles and getting the potstickers) depending on the day and which dish you order, and even for takeout. My husband thoughtfully picked this place for our lunch date since it had a lot of great options for vegetarians. Vegetable potstickers: tasty but the filling had too much water so they broke upon being picked up and ended up pretty mushy Chive fried dumplings: YESSSSSS; so good and so filling! We were greeted with a smile, led to our table, and given the lowdown on their menu. They have lunch special combos - I ordered the wonton in chicken soup, xlb, Ube drink. Decided to finally try this place. They had so many great reviews but in my opinion it was very mid. We ordered the spicy wontons, they had no spice to them and it felt very watered down and lacked the rich flavor. The pork and shrimp dumplings were okay, nothing special to them. The spicy noddles had the same flavoring as the spicy wontons and lacked. The cucumbers were good. The services was fairly fast, our food came out quickly. I've been to this Dough Zone location a couple of times. I think it's good, not great. Often the service is very weird. Some dishes take forever. Sometimes they are just out of things. Last time I went half the tables were covered with dirty dishes. There appeared to be only one server. The food was so slow to come out. But rest were and we went wild again ordering a whole array of dishes as portions are tiny. What stood out were the noodles. They had a slight bite to them, not aldente but a bit more undercooked. They didn't have a good mouth feel and were tough. The epic chilli oil from Cupertino was present here as well but was somehow very underwhelming. Not sure if they make these sauces locally in each branch but this was definitely not as umami rich or tasty. All the noodle dishes we ordered had a sauce- soy, sesame or chilli oil and they didn't adhere to the noodles at all, the noodles were just lying on a saucy mess. We got the cucumbers this time.
