This place was nothing special in terms of the taste of the food; other seafood boil places are MUCH better. Their "sauce" is just glorified spicy oil. What really irked us was how they try to charge you for every little thing. I asked for gloves and I was told that was an up charge. For gloves??? At a seafood boil restaurant??? That is standard everywhere else. I saw that some people were wearing gloves and they were literally just basic medical looking gloves yet they couldn't spare the $0.02 to give their customers gloves to eat comfortably. Waited 45 minutes outside till the order was ready. Why not have a more accurate time on your website? Why not turn off online ordering if you're understaffed and can't handle the volume of orders coming in ? Management dropped the ball on this one. Respect your neighborhood who supports your business. Me and all the other people who waited outside would have been happy to wait at home. Fist timer here are I really enjoyed the flavors this place had to offer. Event ho we weren't aware of how long the wait time was, we decided to wait. I kid you not, we waited more then an hour and a half, but we were determined we'd be getting in, we hung out and grabbed Boba next door. They did let us know that if we put our name down, there was not a guarantee we'd be seated so that was a nice warning they give out, so its up to the guest discretion to wait or not. Now when we finally did get a text that we could be seated, it was really busy and it was already 9:15 pm, mind you they close at 10PM, according to their hours. We got seated in small table for two, we didn't mind, we were ready to grub. Our waiter came by and we ordered and the food was out fairly quick. She was nice and prompt, loved that. We ordered the shrimp - 18pcs, corn and potato( I can do without it next time, its bland) fries, rice and cucumber salad. We were in heaven, it was all so good! Don't get anything lower than 12 piece. Trust me you will be sorry. They have condensed milk and the strawberry syrup, which is absolutely delicious. They used to have chocolate syrup they got rid of that which I'm sad about, but it was still very good. The fried shrimp was absolutely delicious. It's fried perfection and great seasoning. The fries were also very yummy and seasoned so well. Comes with all sorts of side sauces. And the topless shrimp was also cooked very well as well. Complete letdown from my experience. The service was fine, but the food was very disappointing. I had never been here before and ordered the most popular Kickin' Mix and Garlic Kasian medium spice seasonings for my seafood boil. While the seafood was fresh, the seasoning completely ruined my meal. I've been to plenty other seafood boil restaurants and this one was by far the most disappointing. The seasoning was bitter, salty, greasy and lacked a typical flavor you expect from a seafood boil. The restaurant is pretty standard with booths and tables and the typical paper topper so that you can enjoy the seafood boil dumped on the table. They're pretty busy so I guess there is a following at this restaurant, however this isn't a place for me. read more

I've been a fan of Cajun Creole since the boom of Boiling Crab. That trend started many moons ago and while a lot of other places tried to open up theirs not many had succeeded. Kickin KAsian was one of those places that I doubted in the beginning but quickly became a favorite. While conveniently located near the area I worked at; my friends, coworkers and family would come and visit. It was a place to come for some good Cajun Creole. Now that I don't work around the area I still find myself coming from time to time. One friend in particular likes to come and that has me coming back. I really enjoy their Kickin mix adding the spiciest Inferno level for a nice hot time. I've tried many of their seafood options but I keep gravitating towards the naked shrimp. (thanks to my friend) Its perfect for when you just want to eat and not get your hands all up in the mix. The only thing I do not agree with is their utensils. They have forks and spoons made of popsicle material which I don't find pleasing to use while eating the naked shrimp and rice. There are times where I would bring my own set of chopsticks. lol I guess in a way, this place is meant for you to eat with your hands and I get it. Came in today for Dine LA and was excited to try the Dungeness crab lunch - $15 for a cluster, corn and potato. So delicious and great value for the meal. Also excited to see all of their new lunch options lately. So far I have tried the Kickin shrimp tacos, tian tian shrimp, truffle Mac and cheese, and cucumber salad. We got to do some errand and when we came back I received a text that our table was ready. The receptionist was very friendly and even our server, Olivia was very helpful. We enjoyed the shrimp, the calamari plate, which they offered a $4.50 off every basket in Yelp :) I got the hubz gloves while I enjoyed my bare-hands-shrimp-eating :) It was flavorful and the mild spicy that we got was just fright for us. Will definitely come back! But wait there's more: we got home and realized that we left our smoothie bottle in the restaurant. It was too late to go back so I just called to ask if they've seen it. For my last restaurant before the end of Dine LA Week, I decided to stay closer to home in the SFV and chose Kickin KAsian, in Northridge. I have been here before and it's been a while since my last visit. It did not take long for all the good memories to come rushing back. The dining area, though small, is ample to accommodate a good and fun crowd. There is a young staffing crew, who from the time I walked in, were welcoming, friendly and provided high class service. Right throughout my visit, they took care of me and kept journeying to my table with a smile to make sure everything was okay. I was here for the Dine LA Lunch and the set menu was extremely generous in both components and quantity. The Kickin Bayou Bento came with 8 pieces of Shrimp, one half corn, one potato, rice and cucumber salad. The shrimp were spectacular, whole (shell on) and a good size. I selected the popular Kickin Mix spice and asked it be prepared at medium heat. The tray came to my table at the perfect temperature. The shrimp and corn were succulent and had absorbed the spice mix beautifully. Same with the potato. There were numerous flavors that married well and a high degree of taste and satisfaction. I thoroughly enjoyed every bite after dipping it in the residual sauce mix. Included in this deal was a large soft drink and dessert, which was 4 beignets (made fresh when it was time), that were dusted with powdered sugar. Two dips were provided: condensed milk and strawberry. I savored the latter. The beignets were superb, lightly crisp and soft on the outside, warm and gooey on the inside. The price for all this was only $15 !! They could have easily charged more. I did visit numerous restaurants during the 2 weeks of Dine LA. Hands down, Kickin KAsian was by far the best of the lot. This was true in all the departments, that make an eatery an unforgettable (and must visit) dining destination. read more

I visited yesterday with my family since we just love the food here, as always we had to wait for about 45 mins to be seated. I don't know who trains the staff that greets customers but I found it Rude that I was addressed in spanish by the young man at the front even though I kept speaking to him in english. I am a fairly white skin hispanic lady and I felt that he stereo typed me. Are we not suppose to speak english in this country? and when it came to checking out we asked for a to go bag since we ordered the family combo which comes in a large bowl and instead of the waiter offering to transfer all the left overs into the bag he walked away. I was honestly really disappointed with my experience at Kickin Kasian. The food was not what I expected at all. Someone told me it was "the closest thing to The Boiling Crab," and that is absolutely wrong. I ordered the Kickin Mix because the waiter said it was like "the whole shabang," but it didn't taste anything like a proper seafood boil. I usually love seafood boils for that bold, spicy flavor, but this one was oddly sweet, almost like it had barbecue sauce in it. It completely threw me off and was honestly very unpleasant. I only ate like three shrimps and the sausage was sweet too. Another thing that bothered me was how they charge for everything. I asked for an empty cup and was told it would cost $1. Then I asked for gloves, and they charge $0.50 per glove, so $1 for a pair. Seeing those charges on the bill felt a bit ridiculous. And cheap on the owners side. That said, I do want to mention that our waiter was very kind and friendly, and the rest of the staff were welcoming as well. If you're looking for something closer to The Boiling Crab, I would definitely recommend Drunken Crab in North Hollywood instead. read more

Kickin KAsian seems like it prioritizes streamlining operations over service. When I went to order takeout the employee at the front pointed me toward their self-serve kiosk. If you want no human contact great, but it wasn't very convenient compared to just ordering with the person in front. Another inconvenience is the no cash thing which may be a problem for those who don't have a card. I was hoping to be environmentally friendly and asked if my food could be put in a clean container I brought. The employee asked a manager and within my view and earshot he curtly said no, we can't do that. The employee helping me was apologetic but management came off the wrong way. Pretty funny considering they use a eco friendly icon in their kiosk for their wooden spoons. With the lack of good service, from management no less, this was a disappointing visit. The food was okay but what makes or breaks a place is their service. And, at least for takeout, Kickin KAsian is lacking. read more

There was a wait - there always is on the weekends - and they told us it would be 45 minutes - luckily it was only 15 or so minutes. The server was very nice and the food was good. The food was better quality and more variety than at Boiling Crab, but the problem is that the dining room is much smaller. They definitely need a bigger space. For some reason they don't put the prices on the menu. Well, they do but you have to click the barcode to see them. Visited my brother in Northridge and asked us what we wanted for dinner. I was craving shrimp and he recommended Kickin Kasian. It's just a few minute's drive so we called for an order to go. We had their traditional shrimp and snow crab legs with a bowl of garlic noodles. Our to-go order came and they had our order complete. They also gave some extra sauce for the shrimp. The shrimp are huge and the sauce that seasoned the shrimp is delicious. You've to make sure you ask for this sauce coz it makes the shrimp good and a bit spicy. You'll get your hand dirty and they also provided a plastic bib so that it won't dirty your shirt. The snow crab is also huge and once you crack the shell, the meat will melt in your mouth. I just can't stop eating this shrimp and snow crab. I definitely recommend this place if you want shrimp and snow crab legs. read more
