Most memories of this place come from the days when it was on the other side of downtown, away from all the hustle and bustle of the downtown core. Man what a great move these guys pulled off! I've been here for a beer before a baseball game but that is a completely different crowd and experience. This was after the "Howl at the moon" event on Friday night (review of that to come). Needing a bite to eat with a beer, this was within walking distance, with a temperature of 5 degrees. Choice well made. This was a little younger crowd than I was expecting but then again it's an Irish bar on a Friday night in downtown so I guess I wasn't really surprised in any way. There was room to move around though, possibly due to the fact it was a Friday night downtown and also 5 fricken degrees but none the less it was a good thing because there were a couple of open tables. We hit the last call for the full menu so choices were made quickly with only a little thought involved and little debate...mushrooms stuffed with wild rice (which the waitress said were small and bite sized), Brussel sprouts and an Apple flat bread pizza which I was a little reluctant to sign off on but what the hell. Beer came fast, food came even faster, cooks must have wanted to bail. I will say they have a very good beer menu, no surprise, move on. The food was way better than I was expecting. The mushrooms, there were 4 and they were not bites sized, were very good. Not my favorite of the three but since the other two things tied for number one that moved the mushrooms to #2 position. The Brussels sprouts were really good. Cook just right with garlic and olive oil, very tasty. They really needed Blue Cheese but then I would be comparing them to others I had and that wouldn't be fair. The pizza was fantastic! The apple was very thinly sliced and the cheese they used, which I can't quite put my finger on, was perfect with the sweetness of the apples and then there was a balsamic sauce over the top. I would definitely order that again. They had a really good band of two guys playing some rather interesting cover songs along with some Irish style drinking songs. Very intertwining and an overall really good time. They have done a great job with the interior and have created a really nice poem, warm and inviting room in the new space. It's kind of hard to dislike Kieran's, I mean you would of had to have a pretty poor experience to rate anything less than 3 stars. The location is great and the patio is nothing short of spectacular! Prices are not outrageous for being smack in the middle of downtown and right next to Target Field and the Target Center. If you've never been there is a great patio on the corner 1st Ave and 6th Street, prime meeting spot before or after any event. The inside is quite unique, it really gives you that PUB feeling with dim lighting, little nooks and wood grain galore. There are multiple rooms inside, Titanic Lounge is a little more quiet and more comfortable and the Poets Corner is a reserve seating only area for small groups. I've never reserved either space for a group but they look like a cool idea if you want some VIP type treatment. Drinks are decent, the beer selection is acceptable for a downtown bar and they obviously have plenty of Irish Whiskey. I did order an Old Fashioned once and it was just OK, I don't like Soda in my drink and apparently thats how this bar tender did it. I've only had appetizers for food, the stand out to me was the Sriracha Wings, they were awesome. For entrees I can't really say, but I wouldn't expect anything to blow you away. I go here for what they excel at, Pub feeling and prime patio seating. If you are looking for either of those environments then Kieran's will not disappoint. read more

Cute decor! Great for groups, loads of space. Outside seating - I am guessing you could ride your bike and sit outside without your sweaty stewy self without being off putting to other patrons, or if your puppy is in tote you can enjoy a beer serviced right to you. I didn't stay for food, but it seemed to have a okay / typical happy hour menu. Nothing really blew my socks off but it was enough of everything I'd come again and try it out. read more

Holy Patio Batman! The patio here is huge and it rocks! There's even a little deck built in, in the middle that elevates tables above the others! Very neat atmosphere to be on the sidewalk as people walked by after the Twin's game! Our group shared a couple Happy Hour appetizers, and I was impressed by all of them. The first was plain and simple french fries! How the heck did they make them so good?!?! Then we also got the pretzel sticks that came with a beer cheese dip. DELISH, and last... Pot roast sliders! We had our Christmas party at this location. We spent about $4,000.00 for 75 people in the Titanic Room. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The buffet style service for appetizer/finger foods were a solid OK. Why ok you ask? Some were dry and I had concerns about food temperature safety. (Keeping hot foods hot and cold foods cold.) No one got sick, so that was a positive! I believe we could have used more tables and wait staff. I also think a water station to help get the food down in addition to coffee would have been nice. Minnesotans will drink booze all night but we also have to drive home and booze doesn't always go well with driving. I would schedule another party here for the future since I did get some happy employees. I would ask about other options for beverages moving forward as well. This is a bar and it's got lots of energy and noise. The manager was accommodating when we asked to meet him. read more

Good pub food (I had the Pot Pie), good beer (I had the Finnegan's Stout), and a great selection of whiskeys. I chose a nice single malt Scotch. But hey, I'm more Scot than Irish, so... The wait staff was awesome: patient and attentive with a willingness to recommend personal favorites. My favorite kind. I will return for the experience. The food at a place like this is so much less critical than the "feel" when you're here. In a pub, I'll go for the feel every time. That said, the pie was really tasty. Great vibes!! Came here for a quick bar hop stop. Good the Guinness Blond and buddy got a Guinness. The crowd was from a Twins game that just won and finished, so it was good and jovial. The beers were well poured and actually re-done after the bartender didn't like the look of a pour. Actually got approached by a woman here too, good times.! Since it is literally right across the street from Target Center we thought it would be crowded, but it really wasn't at 4:30 before a 7:00 game. Big place, great decor, not too loud. The food was pretty good and the beer selection was pretty good as well. Service was a little slow but we weren't in a hurry, so we didn't mind. I went here with my student cohort for a Holiday party and it was the perfect place for it! It was conveniently right off the green line and located by the Target Center and many other fun things to do. They have a bar and seating in the front and they have a beautiful back room that is classy and beautiful and perfect for mingling and sipping on a drink. We also had a buffet of their appetizers and you bet I was the first in line! Not only did they have a wide assortment, but their quality was top notch! I specifically remember the way the spinach artichoke dip melted into my mouth when paired with the pita bread. I also highly recommend their pretzels with the beer cheese dip, so good! I may have went up in line shamelessly for seconds and thirds, but it's a true testament to how good it was! This truly is a great place for a drink or for a whole meal. Visited on a Tuesday before a Twins game. The outside seating was really nice, but getting a table and then securing chairs for four was not quite so nice. It was really busy, you seat yourself outdoors, and there was a fair bit of empty chair hoarding- "my people are coming." Once you score a table and chairs to go with it, order everything you want because the wait is a bit long, understandably so, because of the busy factor. Highlights- nice selection of tap beers and the chicken shots with honey-whiskey glaze were yummy! The sausage and mushroom flatbread was ok, and I wouldn't bother with the bacon tots (hard overdone lumps of tots). Walking distance to Target Field was a big plus. I came to Kieran's for a 21st birthday and was appalled that they did not treat the birthday boy or the birthday party very hospitably. I got confused because I guess I thought that's what fake Irish pubs were all about. Isn't that the whole schtick? The place didnt even look that Irish. What the heck? Beyond the obvious letdown, there were a couple of other things I could legitimately complain about that night, first and foremost being: 1. DRINKS. I bought 2 long beach ice teas in a row. They tasted like plain pink lemonade but I knew they were 'real' because they cost me $5.50 a pop so I figured my taste buds were just in fine form that night. I gulped down both of those ladies within 20 minutes and yet I could still feel my face. Not only could I feel my face, I could use my face to talk and smile and perform all kinds of other motor movements that should have been improbable, if not impossible, at that point. Being expensive AND stingy on the booze is utterly unforgivable. 2. The mean waitress. She was pushy with the tabs and trying to close them out every 2 minutes but then disappearing when we wanted things like...well like food and service. Doesn't she understand the concept of running up a tab and getting a big tip? 3. No consideration for the birthday. No token embarrassment, no song, no drink on the house, no well-wishes from the bitchy waitress--no NOTHING. I seriously have never experienced such a dearth of festivity on the part of a restaurant which stands to make a lot of money off a celebratory bunch. Seriously, you dont want a large, drunk crowd in your restaurant? What kind of Irish pub ARE you? I wont even mention the parking situation. One star for the delicious tomato soup. read more

So...I've been to Kieran's for HH plenty of times and the rando late night buddy gathering for a cold brew, but never took time to figure out the food. I took a pass at the food during a large team lunch...which Kieran's was able to manage for about 20+ people in a separate side room (nicely done!). I have a weakness for burgers...I can't help myself! I saw the Kieran's Burger and went for it, done medium of course (the only way to eat a burger...sometimes medium-rare). After chatting it up with my coworkers, my burger landed in front of me and I was excited! After the first bite, I wasn't impressed. It was 'okay' since it was clearly cooked well...I was in a pinch and didn't have time to ask for another cooked medium. The flavor was blah, not sure if it was actually seasoned when cooked. The fries were good though...but the burger was pretty average, which I wasn't expecting. I'll definitely give it another shot...but I'm sticking to the adult bevs they serve. read more

Their happy hours runs weird hours, but it's just a few blocks from work so I can still manage to sneak over there for happy hour before it ends at 6. I've come here a few other times for team trivia and it's decent for it, if a smaller crowd than some other trivia venues I've been to. I'm not a huge fan of their patio set-up but it's a patio that's downtown and that's hard to come by - at least that'll seat more than 2-4 people together. Average beer list, but surprisingly great food. Definitely get the bacon wrapped sausages and their house-made tots. I ended up ordering 2 orders of tots once because I just couldn't stop. Drove to Minnesota to get my Prince umbrella at the Twins baseball Game and stopped here afterwards. Service and food was great from start to finish. I had the slammer drink and burger with salad. The dressing is excellent light but right. Hit all the flavor notes. The burger was cooked to perfection. Juicy with no pink. We were on the patio but heard the band and decided to sit inside to watch the players. Great groove. Waitresses not overbearing and EVERYONE was friendly from start to finish. read more

Came here for HH and we got one of the snuggs (?). For food, we had the following: Pub Pretzels: nice and warm, the pretzels were super soft and came with a nice cheesy dipping sauce Stuffed Mushrooms: mushrooms stuffed with mashed potato and onions, with cheeses. I personally thought they were kind of bland, and could have use more spice or something. Artichoke dip: my favorite of all three items, the dip itself is really great and comes with amazing flat bread. Much better than a lot of other artichoke dips that I have had at other HHs. For drinks, we all had a variety of things and I just had a Fat Tire. Our waiter was nice, but he would leave us for long periods of time without checking in. Prices were okay during HH and the overall experience was fine, but nothing special. I won't be come back for HH until I try some other places probably. read more

Long time no review. School done and busy at work. Kieran's is right next to the Target Center and Target Field so it is a pretty good spot to meet up before events or games, so that a plus. Aaaaaand here we go... At its core it is an Irish pub. The food there is fine, nothing to really write home about (but I'll write to you b/c you crave it). With that said you can expect the usual suspects of meat pies, potato based dishes and I had the fish and chips. They came out hot and crispy and pretty standard, I opted for the walleye over the cod for a firmer texture and obviously it comes with fries (chips). The batter wasn't bad but it wasn't memorable. Fries were standard thicker cut fries with skin on. They do have a pretty good selection of beer and a solid selection of whiskeys and scotches as well. Bonus for downtown, they do have a LARGE patio. Compared to the smaller pubs like Merlin's Rest (my faves) or George and the Dragon (newly founded), Kieran's lacks originality. I feel like I wouldn't be able to pick it out of a 5 pub line-up (Coopers/Liffey). The service was good, but if you go on a busy night, expect to make a run to the bar if you are a fast Parking can be a 'B' because it is downtown, so plan on circling a couple times for meter parking or paying for the lot across the street. Final Word: Food is AiGhT, drinks are good, service is OK. I'd go for the events downtown, but I wouldn't plan on making it a destination. I came here for a MNO (Mom's Night Out) to do their weekly pub quiz. We had 3 teams aiming to do well. I ordered a burger, pretty standard for pub food, but I was incredibly disappointed. It was a pre-made frozen patty that tasted pretty freezer burned & the onion rings were just okay. So the rule is the losing trivia team gets to pick a topic for the next week's trivia game. At the previous trivia night, the losing team picked the topic "St. Thomas University." Other losing teams picked topics like "The Simpsons." Well, as a group of SAHM's, we chose breastfeeding, a topic we though we could naturally ROCK. Well, the MC nixed that idea quickly. He said "There is nothing funny about breastfeeding, it would be like doing a round about serial killers or mass murders. We just don't do it." Because a round on St. Thomas University is so HILARIOUS. Anyway, we just spent $10/team + food & drinks for 11 moms, so we were a bit peeved. read more

They have a decent selection of food on special for happy hour. We had the sweet potato poutine for an app. It was really good. For my meal, I ordered a half order of fish and chips. I like that I could get a half order during happy hour. But the fish was a little more breaded than I would have liked. read more

Ok I'm a fan of the Irish Pub experience - good beer, sports, fish and chips. But I don't typically go to an Irish Pub for the food. Today, I stopped at Kieran's because the patio was so inviting on a beautiful sunny afternoon! I had the Minnesota Mule - made with local vodka - it was excellent! This is the first of the three bars owned by "Kieran" who is from County Sligo. The food here is really quite good. I have never had a mixed drink here. i don't know why I would to drink anything other than the best pulled pints of Guinness in the cities (and if you think Guinness on tap is the same at any local, you are just wrong, ok). My favorite things to eat are the stew and the salad with salmon. Both are hearty and filling and made with good ingredients. My most memorable night at Kierans was after seeing Riverdance (I know! ) sitting with members of the cast drinking pints. The music is usually good, the pints are THE best and the food is better than probably 90% of the pubs in Ireland. Also I appreciate the fact that most of the waitstaff are actually Irish. Perhaps why the service is occasionally stroppy or slow. They don't exactly have a service culture over. i kind of like it, it adds to the authenticity. read more

Well, hello giant patio! As Annie D said - it's most certainly an epic patio...filled with plenty of peeps, booze and fun. This was the perfect spot for my fam and I to gather for a couple bevs and a light bite or two. I didn't spend any time inside, so my review is just for the patio ambiance, which is great and low key-ish, especially considering how packed it was. I ordered the Jump In whiskey bev topped with a current and Crispin Cider. Even though I don't love Irish whiskey, this concoction was creative and pretty tasty. Extra points for the 2 Gingers whiskey...Keiran's own brand. Food wise, I snagged the Berries and Brie salad - mixed greens with fresh seasonal berries, brie cheese, candied walnuts & creamy poppy seed dressing. Nom nom, friends. This salad was the bombdotcom. Thanks to our friendly and uber efficient waitress for recommending this one to me. As for the other eats, I also tried the pretzels - salty and delicious with not as stellar mustard and stout cheese. My fam ran the gamut with the menu and frankly everything looked pretty fantastic. A bar with a very cool atmosphere and great location seemed like the place to be based on first appearance. Perceptions can change very quickly. Finding customer service at this bar was like finding chilled water in the desert. The good: The décor inside is very cool. There are two sides to the bar and tons of indoor and outdoor seating. Great selection of drinks. The bad: The bathroom smelled like.. well.. you know. The ugly: we decided since we were visiting Kieran's on a warm summer night that we would enjoy the spacious outdoor patio area. We sat down and after a few minutes a young woman server came to take our drink orders. The drinks took a few minutes to arrive, but this is nothing new for downtown on a weekend. However, around 1:00 or so things went downhill. I spotted our server standing around with another server chatting. This went on for quite a while. My glass was empty and my wallet was full, but there was no drink to be found. I spotted a woman making rounds who appeared to be a manager of some sorts. I approached her and told her we had been waiting to order drinks for quite a few minutes, and asked if she could send someone to our table. She said she would send a server over right away. Thirty minutes passed by, and still no one had came to our table. Thirty minutes thirsty can feel like hours. I approached the manager AGAIN and told her we were still waiting to be served. "Still??" she said to me - "yes, we are STILL waiting." She apologized and said she would make sure someone was over right away. I sat back down and waited for what seemed like another very long time. It was getting very close to bar close and I was growing very upset that I was going to go home thirsty after spending almost an hour trying to buy a beer. I went over to the manager again and asked her if I could "please get some service before the bar closed." this time she got our server over right away. The server rolled her eyes at me before and after taking my order. I have never seen a server look so annoyed with doing her job. A couple minutes after the beers arrived a bouncer came by and told us we had five minutes to finish our drinks and leave. I slammed my six dollar beer, and walked out the door, never looking back. It's a safe bet to say that I left no tip. And a sure bet that me and my Amex will never return. If the owner of Kieran's ever ends up reading this, I think it would be a wise investment to put your servers through some type of customer service training. read more
