Really really good. It was also one of the few places open that's not Starbucks or McDonald's. The Ube mochi pancakes special was really really good especially with that salted butter and the coconut syrup they had available. I didn't realize it came with bacon and ordered eggs and sausage on the side. Probably wouldn't order the scrambled eggs again but everything else was great. My husband got the pork fried rice with eggs and that was also really delicious. I couldn't stop eating and as a result stuffed myself. I wonder why they don't just give numbers. The servers were calling out names the whole time and people don't pay attention so they're just walking around with plates of food looking for people because you have to order before you sit and they find you. That could probably be better...I mean they found us but I feel bad for the servers. Would definitely come back here. read more

We stopped into Kihei Caffe in Lahaina for breakfast and could instantly tell it's a local favorite. I went with the chicken and waffles--loved that they offered tenders instead of full thighs as an option, since I wasn't super hungry. My boyfriend had the breakfast hash, and it was definitely the star of the meal! Stopped by Kihei Caffe for brunch and ordered their catfish poboy and pork fried rice along with their coffee. I really liked their pork fried rice and if you add their hot sauce it just elevates the flavors of the dish. The cat fish poboy was good too. Service was good. You order at the counter and then food is delivered to your table. Note for coffee lovers there's only 1 free refill of their brewed coffee not a bottomless cup. I ordered the pancakes with a side of fruit and it was the perfect choice for breakfast. Outside tables are also available to enjoy the ocean breezes. Our goal was support restaurants Lahaina and not just resorts. We thought we'd Kihei Caffe (it's a chain ((2 locations on Maui) but at it's local). The restaurant seems to be a good idea in concept but the execution fell flat. Given the price and quality of our meals ($72 for 2 entrees and coffee + tip) this morning that was a bad idea. The food is very underwhelming. The Sysco truck must back up to this place like it's a school cafeteria or a senior home. Even the house specialties were not special. The food (Corn Beef and Chicken Fried Steak could have easily been a frozen TV dinner). The eggs were probably the only thing probably already prepackaged before arriving at the restaurant and coffee was surprisingly weak and flavorless- rarely a problem in Hawaii. read more

I ordered two eggs scrambled soft with Portuguese sausage, but the eggs came out way too hard. The only edible parts of the plate were the sausage and the biscuit. The "fries" served with breakfast were basically French fries not something I want with eggs in the morning. I also ordered pancakes with macadamia nuts and bananas, but the bananas were far from fresh. The pancakes were spongy and unappetizing. To be fair, the manager did refund the pancakes, which I appreciated. However, even though he saw the eggs were overcooked and the fries untouched, he wouldn't adjust anything on that plate since I had eaten the sausage and biscuit. Overall, a very disappointing experience. Overpriced for what was received. I'll be going to The Gazebo instead for breakfast. I won't be back. read more

Loved this place so much that we visited three times during our week long visit to Maui! So many great options, you cannot go wrong stopping here! The breakfast burrito with chorizo was my favorite, but the waffle with bananas and macadamia nuts was a close second. Staff are friendly and helpful, they do a great job keeping the place clean with the high volume of visitors they have. We stopped in during the first day of the Kona storm in March, they were very busy, but we had food and were happily seated and eating in no time! This is the third time we have been to our local Lahaina Kihei Caffe and our experience today wasn't as good as previous visits. I knew they don't serve decaf coffee which is always disappointing. They also don't offer Kamaaina for locals, and they charge a 3% service charge for credit cards. I found them a bit expensive. However this is a popular restaurant and the menu covers breakfast and lunch, with the usual dishes such as pancakes, corned beef hash, fried rice, eggs (yes they had plenty!), and moco loco, along with some cocktail additions. You peruse the menu while in line (which was out the door on a Saturday morning at 10am), order at the front desk and pay, then seat yourself and they will bring your food to you. High tops and tables are available inside with AC and a patio with tables outside for those who like the warmer weather. Parking is easy in the open air mall, unless it is Sunday morning when there is a great market in the car park. Hubbs ordered the pork fried rice with 2 eggs, ordered over medium, and it arrived exactly as ordered and Hubbs ate every mouthful. So many breakfast cafes are closed on island due to the lack of eggs so it was nice to be able to order them. Because of the egg shortage I plumped for the cheese omlette and paid extra for mushrooms, and it came with a side of potato fries. The omelette was rotund and the potato fries were halfway between a potato chip and french fry which was unusual and moreish. When I took the first bite of my omlette it had ham in it, which I didn't order (it costs $2 extra) and I'm vegetarian so it was a really strong flavour for me. They remade my omlette but it didn't come out until Hubbs had almost finished his fried rice. If you are looking for a solid breakfast restaurant in Lahaina for a quick bite to eat this is the place for you, just bring cash to avoid those credit card charges. read more

First of all, the name is a bit misleading, because this restaurant is located in Lahaina, not Kihei, so I got confused when my hubby kept telling me that we should come here for breakfast because it's 5 minutes from our hotel which was in Kaanapali (Kihei is farther south). You order and pay at the counter, and then find a table. You have to get your own napkins, utensils and water. Then you wait for the waiter to call out your name as they exit the kitchen with your food. They don't have scrambled egg whites as an option on the menu, which was disappointing, and the scrambled eggs tasted kind of odd, like they were pre-cooked or somewhat processed. But the other members of my family loved this place and their food (they ordered the omelette, waffle, bacon). Food is good, but the service leaves a lot to be desired. The employees' attitudes often feel unfriendly. When we visit the island, we usually stop for breakfast here--just their yogurt parfait bowl. Unfortunately, the granola is always soggy because they put it on ahead of time and leave it sitting in the refrigerator. For two parfaits, a coffee, and a tea, the bill usually comes to around $35 plus a 20% tip. The inconsistency is frustrating. One day I'm given a to-go cup, the next day I'm told I can't have one because I'm "not staying here to eat." Over three mornings, we spent about $120 on parfaits, coffee, and tea--items we could have picked up at Safeway for around $40. We genuinely want to support local businesses, but it's hard to justify when the service feels dismissive and unwelcoming. read more
