This place always has a line out the door so figured we'd try it. We decided to do an online order. Email says pick up at bar. The problem is there is one door to enter and the line is snaking so there's no room to walk in, all while people in line are pissed that you're trying to go around them. Finally discovered that you can enter through the exit. There was a worker making drinks at the bar (I assumed this was the bar to pick up online orders at). Asked the employee and she says, with an attitude and not even looking at me, "pick it up at the bar". Even the couple next to me was taken aback by her response and said "well that wasn't too clear now was it". This place needs SIGNS. If you're offering online orders and know you always have a line then place a sign that says PICKUP ONLINE ORDERS HERE. I encountered exactly ONE friendly employee here, who was the local sis at the bar. Side note, there was also a customer next to me complaining that they are allergic to peanut butter and her plate came out twice with peanut butter on it and was afraid to even eat anything anymore because of the lack of concern. My only issue was that they messed up my order twice, and when they gave me the correct food, it was burnt. Kihei Café was always a spot that I would share with friends and family visiting. My favorite used to be the Loco Moco, but, the last two times I ordered it, the patty and gravy was not as flavorful. Attention to detail with the food was poor. Soft scrambled eggs came out hard. The sticky bun wasn't warm and was hard. The potatoes seemed reheated rather than made fresh. This place was so typical Hawaii style breakfast in all the best ways. Fresh house made corned beef hash. Delicious pork fried rice with spam andPortuguese sausage. Crunchy sticky and fresh. The sweetbread French toast was also amazing. The portions were large. Kind staff at the counter. We ended up here twice. It was that good. Cold brewed coffee was amazingly deep and dark. The latte only came with whole milk. It was heavy. .0001 star deduction right there. lol. Dining was available both indoors and out in the lanai. We did both over the two visits. The bellman at our hotel recommended KCL, and we were glad he did. They offer bfast & lunch, in a very casual setting. We ordered the signature loco moco and the catfish sandwich (my dish). The sandwich was really good. It had a nice batter and the portion of fish was big. Hawaii Travel Companion raved about the loco moco. I had some, and I know why. The gravy was expertly seasoned, and the portion was massive. She liked it so much she wanted to return to KCL during our 5 day/4night trip. You order at the counter, and your food is brought to you. This casual café is serving up the best corn beef hash I've had in years. I started my day late and I was looking for something safe and easy to order and get out the door quickly. I can't tell you how happy I was to settle for the corn beef hash! This stuff did not come out of a can, this was homemade! pure delicious. We have always gone to the Kihei location and since we were near Lahaina for a few nights I decided to get some brunch here. I probably should have waited until we were down in Kihei because we were not a fan of this location. The line wasn't too terrible and we ordered at the counter. I saw posts about prime rib loco moco and asked to get that as my dish, we also ordered the Mac nut banana pancakes and two kids meals. I got a cold brew cocktail and my hubby ordered their bloody Maria. Cold Brew Cocktail was mediocre so I would pass and just get a mimosa with pog next time. We found a table and 1 min after sitting down my daughter knocked over my husband's entire drink. I immediately asked an employee for a mop and towels. They were able to clean it up and we moved tables where the food was brought out super fast. The pancakes were great, but they usually give us coconut syrup and they didn't offer and it was too difficult to flag down someone so we just did without. My loco loco meat was super dry and old so I don't suggest you order and just go with the OG patty next time. I subbed fried rice too and the rice was super salty. I went to order another Bloody Mary at the bar and told them what happened. They ended up charging me again - wasn't super stoked about it, but whatever it was our fault. As a person that has been in the industry for many years I would have offered to replace the drink when it was spilled, but hey that's just me. The location has more tables and space and wait is shorter, but I would drive the 30 min to Kihei to eat at the other location. Felt like the staff were just annoyed at the patrons. Came here for breakfast. When you get inside you grab a menu and wait in line to order once you order you find yourself somewhere to sit. It was busy but we were able to get a table right away. I got the breakfast burrito and it was good, I enjoyed it. My mom got the surfer dude sandwich and asked for egg whites and they said they do not do that so she just had to get regular eggs. We've been to Maui on the west side and south side multiple times and finally tried Kihei Caffe. We got there early and thank goodness we did because that line grows FAST! However they do a good job getting people in and out. It's pretty much good diner food. We got the pork eggs Benedict and the chicken fried steak. The pork has great flavor but I expected a bit more from the hollandaise sauce. The biscuit is like an in between a biscuit and an egg muffin, the texture was a little odd I want one or the other. I haven't had chicken fried steak in years and this totally hit the spot. Great gravy. The potatoes are, let's be real, French fries. Which I was NOT mad about!! Really really good. It was also one of the few places open that's not Starbucks or McDonald's. The Ube mochi pancakes special was really really good especially with that salted butter and the coconut syrup they had available. I didn't realize it came with bacon and ordered eggs and sausage on the side. Probably wouldn't order the scrambled eggs again but everything else was great. My husband got the pork fried rice with eggs and that was also really delicious. I couldn't stop eating and as a result stuffed myself. I wonder why they don't just give numbers. The servers were calling out names the whole time and people don't pay attention so they're just walking around with plates of food looking for people because you have to order before you sit and they find you. We visit the original Kihei Caffe location everytime we visit Maui. This trip we stayed in Kaanapali, so we were excited to see a Kihei Caffe located in Lahaina. Unfortunately, our experience wasn't the same. The chilaquilles were on the salty side and my loco moco was almost charbroiled. I can deal with a newer location not meeting the standards of the original. BUT, The problem was with Jake's customer service. I respectfully approached him after we got our order and said "Excuse me but our chilaquilles are salty. How can we go about getting a pancake or something, we will just eat the eggs that came with the chilaquilles." He said to meet him over at the bar. (I'm like, Cool). My wife goes to the bar and he speak to her as if she is the problem! She states respectfully that the chilaquilles are really salty and he replies, " Well I like them and other people are eating them", and asks if she wants to order something else. So now, we have a meal that we just paid for and only had two bites and we have to pay for another food item. My wife orders a pancake ( which was good btw). But his response was unacceptable and dismissive. Why are you making her feel like its her problem the food is salty! There is no reason to tell the customer (my wife) that he likes the chilaquilles and other people are eating them. That is not how you handle that! No apology. No," what can I get you." My wife has had the chilaquilles before with no issues. After she places her order we are now both irritated and can't enjoy our breakfast. Because I don't like to leaving negative reviews we gave him one more chance. My wife approached Jake respectfully again to let him know that it's not OK to make your customers feel like they are the problem. And he came off very dismissive again. His only words were "Ok,ok yeah, ok ok. Never once said I am sorry, I apologize how can I make this better. nothing. Stopped by Kihei Caffe for brunch and ordered their catfish poboy and pork fried rice along with their coffee. I really liked their pork fried rice and if you add their hot sauce it just elevates the flavors of the dish. The cat fish poboy was good too. Service was good. My hubby and I went to this Restroom several times during our stay in Maui. WoW! The food they serve is delicious & freshly cooked. The place looks clean, well decorated, and inviting. The restaurant seems to be a good idea in concept but the execution fell flat. Given the price and quality of our meals ($72 for 2 entrees and coffee + tip) this morning that was a bad idea. The food is very underwhelming. The Sysco truck must back up to this place like it's a school cafeteria or a senior home. Even the house specialties were not special. The food (Corn Beef and Chicken Fried Steak could have easily been a frozen TV dinner). The eggs were probably the only thing probably already prepackaged before arriving at the restaurant and coffee was surprisingly weak and flavorless- rarely a problem in Hawaii. read more
