Mannn listen. I am distraught. I ordered this for delivery like 3 weeks in a row and was soooo impressed I just had to visit the physical location. To my surprise, I arrive there, and it's strictly a takeaway spot. (I didn't not realize that before.) Ok cool. First red flag: Grade Pending. I was like "oh no", but I still went inside "to see" lol. Second red flag: the service was nonexistent at the time I came in. They ignored me. It was empty in there, and there was a worker right at the sushi counter who wasn't rolling sushi, wasn't doing anything really, but he never looked in my direction, I stood there for about 3 minutes in silence lol just staring and waiting until someone in the back yelled out. I'm guessing he doesn't do the greeting or order taking, ok fine, no big deal, I'll wait. Could just be bad timing ya know? Third red flag: having to wait was a blessing in disguise. As I'm waiting, I start looking around wondering "why is it grade pending. Is it dirty in here?" Now I'm inspecting the place myself. And I mean right there on the sushi counter, he had his wallet sitting on it and was rummaging through it, taking things out, etc. To have a wallet on a sushi counter? That is extremely dirty. I told them I'd be back and just walked away. I'm sad though because this sushi is soooooo good. Like it's sooo good. I finally thought I found my favorite sushi spot and then BOOM. Apparently there is a sit in spot a few blocks away. I ate there instead, they had a Grade A, the sushi was good or whatever but it didn't hit the same I think bc I just wanted it from this place. Willing to give them another try once they fix their issues with the health dept. but a grade pending on a sushi spot is a risk I'm not willing to take. read more

My boyfriend and I LOVE Kiku Sushi. The service is always quick and their lunch specials give you so much food for a great price. I usually get the 3 roll combo with the salmon roll, avocado salmon roll, and spicy crunchy salmon roll. I'm clearly obsessed with salmon lol. Their salmon is honestly the best I've ever had. It's a nice place for a date, time with family, or even solo. Came with my family (5 including me) on a Saturday around 530 and were seated right away no reservations; within half an hour more people started trickling in. Stopped by here to take-out a quick lunch. The lady who took my order was very friendly and attentive. Service was faa. I ordered the Poke Bowl, and I was very impressed at how fresh the fish was. They are also generous with toppings, but the toppings don't seem like they were made for a poke bowl (at least not what I'm used to). The cucumbers and carrots are cut very thick into chunks, and the "green salad" is just iceberg lettuce. Still, very decent food, especially for the price. Will be coming here again to try the tuna lunch! Update: had to try the sushi merely because I was so impressed and pleased by how fresh the fish in the aforementioned poke bowl was. I have been a customer of Kiku for years. That is until this past spring when my regular sushi order arrived and it tasted and smelled like mold. I was really disappointed and threw my entire order away because I was worried I would get sick. I did not request a refund at the time, though I should have. I didn't order from Kiku again for months, but over the summer I decided to give them another try and the sushi tasted good as always. I was going to assume the moldy sushi was a one-time thing until today when my sushi arrived covered in mold. The salmon and tuna had white residue on it and the ginger I had to literally spit out. I only ate one piece of sushi and I already feel ill. On top of that, my side salad was drenched in water. I always wondered how they were able to deliver so fast... I am obsessed with Kiku's Dinner Set which is "Your choice of 3 rolls and an appetizer. Served with miso soup or green salad" all for the price of $20.95 which I think is an excellent price for a sushi feast. I always get the green salad with that good dressing, you know the one, and for appetizers I like the wasabi shumai, the seaweed salad (I know, double salad, but you can mix them into one big salad), the edamame, and the crab salad which I just tried for the first time and is delicious. And then you basically get to choose whatever of the three classic rolls you want - I love going with the salmon, yellowtail, tuna trio, I also love going double salmon with the salmon roll AND the salmon avocado roll, and the shiitake cucumber roll is also delicious. The sushi is consistently fresh, the fish to rice ratio is consistently big and elegantly executed, the soy sauce, ginger, and wasabi are generously included. I just love sitting down with a Kiku dinner set delivered (always on time or early) on a day when my introvert self is vibing hard, flipping on the old Netflix and sushing the heck out. It is my spa. My wellness routine. My self care performance art piece. They deliver quickly, are friendly on the telephone, and if you order online - you will probably have your seaweed rice goodness delivered in a jiffy. My newfound favorite Brooklyn sushi spot! I've tried a couple other sushi places in the neighborhood and have always been disappointed - they weren't bad, just meh. Kiku is fantastic, though! I've ordered here twice in two weeks, which really says something, since I usually eat sushi once every couple months. Their lunch combos are amazing - the salmon platter ($12.50) comes with 5 huge pieces of salmon sushi and a salmon roll (with soup & salad), while the pick 3 combo ($11.50) has so many yummy options to choose from. The salmon sushi is my favorite here - so large and flavorful, compared to other places where the fish just tastes bland. And bonus points for having spicy crunchy rolls, which seem hard to find around here (is this not a NYC thing? Used to get them all the time in Boston). Came here on a Friday night around 6:30pm with two friends and got seated easily without a reservation. There were coat hooks in the front of the restaurant if needed. There was plenty of space at the sushi bar but we opted for a table.To start, we split three apps: - TNT roll which has blue fin fatty tuna and truffle soy sauce. It was very fragrant but not that flavorful, surprisingly. Good, because it was fresh, but not a knockout. - Gyoza which were fairly greasy, so I didn't try them. The order was also fairly small. - Tempura rock shrimp, which I don't recommend. There was way too much batter. Generous portion of shrimp, but the shrimp themselves were quite small. Then we all ordered our own rolls. I didn't try my friends' rolls but they seemed to enjoy them. I LOVED my Fancy Roll, which had uni and eel, avocado, and tuna. It was a brilliant combination (I've never had uni and eel in a roll at the same time); creamy and delicious. Then we finished up with the ginger and lime creme brulee, which... how is this $5??? It was such a steal. Delicious with a perfectly caramlized top. Loved the candied ginger and lime as well. Service was very warm. Bathrooms were clean. I'd be happy to come back for more rolls. Walking back from the subway on a weekday night, around 10pm, I was struck my the urge for a sweet potato roll. I'm vegan, so I don't usually go to sushi places. But Kiku was super close to my apt and when I walked past, the temptation proved too great. I got two rolls and a miso soup to go. Service was quick and friendly. It's a small place, basically counter service and a few bar like seats. The sweet potato roll was pretty bland, no crisp to the tempura part and zero flavor. The size of the roll was large, which I appreciated. The soup was equally bland, the miso flavored overtaken by too much water and salt, with no enough seaweed or tofu. Would I go back? Maybe. I think maybe Yelp is a bit confused here because there are two Kikus... one is a carry-out on 7th between 16th and 15th and the other is an actual restaurant. The carry-out place is pretty strictly carry-out quality... they've always been very nice and the prices are cheap but the food is just not that great... the sushi is always too warm for my liking. But if you need sushi in a pinch, it's fine. Their restaurant on the other hand, is outstanding. When it first opened I couldn't believe it was the same people as their corner store... really, it's hands down my favorite Japanese restaurant in Park Slope. That said, it's also one of the more expensive Japanese restaurants... but it's worth it! The place itself is great looking, dark and modern but casual, and is usually packed. So there are two KiKu's and I went to the actual restaurant. I haven't tried the take out but the restaurant is really amazing and just down 7th ave. The people were amazing and the sushi was awesome. I didnt really order anything out of the ordinary. This was another place i went for my bday with my family this time and I must say that this was perfect. My sis brought her baby and there was room for him and we had 5 people all together and we were able to sit there comfortably. I ordered tuna avo roll which was really good, salmon, eel and yellowtail. They all came out and it was delicious. My mom had the the teryiaki salmon and my sis hubby got the vegetarian sushi and veggie gyoza. My sis and my dad got rolls and sashimi. Everyone was pretty happy with their choices and one thing i really enjoyed is that they had a veggie menu which most places lack. But the best part of the meal was my dessert. I had the green tea fried ice cream and the green tea mochi ice cream. SO DELICIOUS!! I love me some desserts and since it's been my bday i've been eating a hell of a lot of desserts.
