But over the years, I've found myself particularly fond of one particular bench in Prospect Park just a stone's throw from all of the Citi Bikes by the Bartel-Prichard Square entrance and past all of the bikers and runners cruising down West Drive. Next, the grilled squid appetizer ($10). The dish I received seemed a few rings smaller than those in other people's photos; slightly disappointing. Still, the squid was cooked nicely, the texture was excellent, and I liked the flavor a lot. The sauce was poured on a bit heavy, but overall, decent starter. We ordered 2 pcs. unagi sashimi ($7), and received a couple small strips of eel. Tasted fine, nothing special, could've done with a larger serving. The salmon avocado roll ($5.50) was similarly middle-of-the-road. Overall, average sushi experience, bordering on meh. I might come back for a lunch special to try a few other menu items. I love their vegetarian rolls. Not every sushi place cares about having plant-based options, and Sushi Yu does. The vegetable Naruto roll is particularly wonderful; also fond of the peanut avo roll and the inari avo roll. Particularly nice that some of the vegetarian rolls have protein. Sushi Yu is my go to spot for reliable lunch specials. Choice of 3 maki rolls for 10-11 dollars that comes with edamame, soup/salad, and shumai is always a great deal. Granted it is not the best I've ever had, Sushi Yu is a solid place for your sushi cravings. The one issue I have is the regular sushi or sashimi from here. Every time ive ordered tuna or salmon rolls, the fish almost has a bleachy taste to it and it's kind of off putting. The same has happened with tuna/salmon sushi and sashimi. I stay away from the plain tuna or salmon. Unless i get it in the form of a spicy maki roll. Which makes me sad because there's nothing I love more than juicy, fatty and flavorful salmon.. just not from here. :( All the other maki options are delicious, and they have really great special rolls as well! read more
