The pieces weren't huge, but they also weren't tiny, so every bite felt just right. The tuna on the rainbow roll had a really nice deep red color and everything tasted clean and fresh. The restaurant is clean and modern, and the staff was attentive throughout our meal. The only downside is that it's a pretty small space, so it can feel a little a busy crowd, especially when there's a wait. I'd definitely be waiting to try more.

They also served some pickled dishes and salad (but chicken dinner had salad so I didn't get it yet), and we really enjoyed the dressing. The small dishes were good, I think it goes even better with our meals but I ate them before the meal came. My dish had grilled chicken and salad with a bowl of rice. It wasn't what I expected but there's plenty of chicken which I shared with my son and he ate a lot! The others had really good dishes, they looked fresh and they said it was delicious. Overall, nice dinner, very elegant in a way that I think it's also a nice treat here and there for the price. Parking was plenty but can be packed for dinner time around 6, you can still park around the bank.

The dinners both came with a salad and miso soup which were both pretty good starters. The halbut and salmon nigiri pieces were also really good. :) Overall, the vibes inside were nice and the service was great. Parking is easy since there is a big lot out front and this place is tucked away in a plaza. I will definitely be back :) ALSO, I thought the prices were quite decent for the quality of the food!!

On my visit, I picked up ahi tuna, toro, salmon, and yellowtail sashimi, along with California rolls, tuna rolls, and salmon rolls. Every piece of fish was incredibly fresh with a buttery texture and amazing flavor. The quality of the fish and the perfectly seasoned sushi rice were so good that I barely needed any soy sauce or wasabi. I only recently discovered this hidden gem, but it has already become a place I will be visiting regularly. The sushi is high quality, reasonably priced, and absolutely delicious. Eventually I found out a few friends of mine have also gone for years and made their suggestions. As I didn't know what to expect I figured I'd go one day, which I did. Actually, it was about 3 weeks ago. I had driven by it but never stopped by which is crazy. At first glance you'd think the business is still closed and waiting to be opened but you have to drive to the back of the parking lot to enter the establishment. I couldn't decide which sushi I wanted so I got a few. It's cute and small on the inside but it's easy to find what you need and it's easy to see what you'd like to buy the next time you go! I can't wait to go back. The only thing I didn't like was their spam musubi, but it's not the end of the world! The sushi is still something I'm going back for!

The freshly grated wasabi was not strong enough. The service was mediocre but only one person was handling all tables. We had to ask for water refills constantly. $40 AYCE can be spent better elsewhere

All of the orders were correct and the food was hot. I tired the Kimchi Fried Rice with Chicken. There was a bit of kick to it, so if you are sensitive to spice, I'd consider another option on the menu. I didn't try the friend chicken, but from what my coworkers said, it was deciduous. I'm excited to try more from the menu in the future.

Ambiance: How a mid-level Japanese restaurant should look and feel. Not over the top, and just enough. Price: Fair pricing for the quality. (i'll get into the quality under Food). Expect to pay around $15-$20 for a good substantial meal, and if you feel like splurging a little, you could easily spend $30-$40 here. Parking/Area: Safe neighborhood in a strip plaza, with ample parking. So no need to be a pro at parallel parking. No need to feed the meter or worry about getting your car towed either - FREE Parking! Food: The most important part, and this is where they hit it out of the park. Honestly, when I go to a Japanese Restaurant, such as this, I do not order their land meats (aka chicken, beef, pork) I go for the fish selections, mainly sushi, or rolls or grilled fish. So if you're looking for a quick fill with some sort of teriyaki chicken, why not just go elsewhere, like Flame Broiler? Not to knock Kiku, but just to be practical, because their sea meats are SO FRESH and DELCIOUS, that's all you should be ordering here. Notables: try their Yuzu drink, very light and refreshing liquor that goes well with the meal. Lastly, and most importantly, try their UNI (if they are not sold out) BEST UNI i've had yet! Melt in your mouth, and none of the fishyness, that unfresh UNI may have. Waiter named Ian told me that they get it fresh from Santa Barbara, and you can definitely tell. Even though we had a big party, he was attentive and brought us out our food and drinks quickly! I was hesitating if I should waste my time writing this review or not for few days.... but what the heck people should know how bad this place is so people don't make the same mistake I did. I am not sure if I should even give two star. (Only gave two star for good quality food) What a total disappointment in service. Food is great but service wasn't as great as last time when I went out with my parents. Because the service here was great last time so this time I brought my business partner here on Saturday around late afternoon/dinner time. Around 4:30pm I didn't see see the same waitress Jenni to serve us. I saw this older lady with glasses and she didn't have a name tag on so I don't know what her name is. The problem with this lady was... no smiles, seems not familiar with the menu at all (are you sure you work here? Then you should know your menu. Why take orders when you don't know the menu to serve customers) and plus she took our empty plates without asking. Without asking is impolite you know. I asked this lady if there was a variety sashimi mixed combos and what kind of fish was in it and she didn't know what was what on the menu to answer us. I was pretty embarrassed for bringing my business partner here. Great food but bad customer service. I am not sure if I will come back at all. PS The waitress didn't even say sorry at all for the missing food item. I understand people can make mistakes but you need to apologize! You took the order so isn't it your responsibility? read more

I don't like to write reviews but I think I have to this time for sure since the waitress and the food was excellent! Being old at my age I don't know how this yelp thing works so I had to have my grandson make me a yelp account. My review from last week. I think her name was Jenni or is it Jenny... ? She recommended I order the combo since combo had a pretty good deal. It came with a delicious soup and salad to start with.The chicken teriyaki was perfectly cooked with just enough sauce on it. The Phili Roll... wow the salmon was savory, I don't know why some people here wrote a review saying that salmon smelled bad. Even the salmon Sashimi I ordered for the combo seemed fine, In fact it was delicious. Even though at lunch it was pretty packed the waitress Jenni came back and forth checking up on me and my husband since we were new here. My husband got the bbq short rib with salmon teriyaki. Oh the Salmon teriyaki was just perfect. If you don't try the combo you will regret. The price maybe little pricey but it's worth it. :) I think I will bring my friends here soon since one of my friend's birthday is coming up. And the lady who looked like a owner told us we can get a free drink if we pay cash so we did and i got iced tea and hot tea for free... This event took forever for me to type.. that in the middle of my typing i had to have my grandson type the rest while i speak. hahahha read more

My updated review. My girlfriend and I got tempura udon, and spicy seafood noodle and it was just perfect for a stressful long day which we both had from working. Mine was spicy seafood noodle and it was just perfect. The spicyness was perfect spicy level. Broth was amazing flavor that it kept making me wanting to keep eating. I really liked the fact that it wasn't too salty or super spicy. Jenny the server promised it won't be super spicy which I was worried about and it was perfect as she promised. :) :) For the tempura udon my girlfriend ordered, she said the broth wasn't too salty or the noodle wasn't too over cooked like the ones she tried at some of the places. She said the chefs here are very talented. The roll our server recommend was delicious to eat with our noodle soups. I forgot the name of the roll but as she recommended let the lemon slices smear into the crabmeat by letting it sit for few minutes and then eat. As we were eating I can taste and smell lemon flavor. And the salmon was Extremely I mean super duper FRESH!! Too bad I didn't take any photos since my girlfriend and I were too hungry and kept concentrating on eating. Hahaha. Solid 4.5 stars. Since the review rating is so high, I was very excited to try them. I took my girlfriend out to kiku, but as I posted the pictures today, I found out that the restaurant had some power outage issues for last three days or so, (from September 2nd to 4th) they threw away all their fish and nothing was available to order other than drinks. I checked in for free gyoza promotions, but as I mentioned above, even gyoza wasn't available, so they offered me free speciality drinks, so I took it. While Me and my gf were chilling at loose tea (the coffee shop next to the restaurant and this shop has really good reviews as well!), the waitress notified me that they just picked up the fish and got here, so we gave it a try. But since we have to go to movies (we pre-paid and booked tickets thru online), we decided to just take the food as to-go, and wow presentation was great and food was yummy! We will definitely come back again for sure and hopefully we'll seat at the table next time. 0.5 star deduction for the power outage but it's not their fault, so I can't really blame them for that. I would like to give zero stars if I could but I will not give zero stars for two reasons. 1. Yelp does not allow me to give zero stars 2. Jenny the server was a great server and she apologized on behalf of the bus boy. it was around 8:45 pm my boyfriend and I walked here to have our late night dinner. I asked the server when we they close and she had mention that last call was not for another half hour and even if she pass closing hour she was willing to wait for us and she gladly greeted us and assured us that it's not a big deal so she told us have all the time we needed. Up to this point it's a five star... Also the Kiku Combo i ordered was great. Jenny sure gave a good recommendation on the choices. Food tasted great. What really ticked us of to give a one star is.... it's not even closing hour and they're taking trash out when customers are still eating. We were not the only ones eating. This is very unsanitary making us loose appetite. If the server didn't saying anything when we questioned we would have just left. Recently few days ago I had to go Alaska Roll from here. I had to stop by supermarket on the way home before I got to eat the roll. The roll was super fresh and I liked how the crabmeat was fresh. Of course, the salmon was fresh and perfect too. I liked how this sushi resturant doesn't use too much mayo to mix the imitation crabmeat to make it taste too fake. Some of the other sushi resturant I've been to used too much mayo to mix the crabmeat and the mayo taste was over powering the imitation crabmeat. And it doesn't taste right. I aslo liked the idea of how they put sliced lemon in between each pieces after they cut the roll into about 8 pieces. The lemon flavor smeared to the imitation crabmeat enough to make the imitation crabmeat taste even more fresh.... not like real crabmeat but close to it. Also, the salmon they put on top was perfect size and thickness. They don't cheat and fool you by slicing thin slices to put on top of the roll. Wednesday night~ My wife and I were craving for sushi right after shopping at Marshalls. I yelped and found Kiku Sushi. It was located at the same plaza but just in the other side. We left our shopping bags in the car and went. Maybe it was dinner time but it was packed. Still they let us sit at a small table near the bar. I loved their combo it was a large portion. (My wife couldn't finish so we had to take a doggie bag home. ) The waitress looked busy full of hands. Jenny gave us a small complimentary green tea ice cream with a smile at the end. Nice service! I couldn't catch the other older lady's name... she didn't have a name tag on. My wife and I just recently moved backed to Monrovia from San Diego due to our parents... This is one of the best places for sushi in this area, the customer service is great and for being a return customer they always take care of you with that little something extra. They have a great sake that I love ordering and can probably drink about 2 bottles by myself. Lol.. The oysters on the half shell here are really fresh and they taste so good you can order a dozen or two. Just about almost every roll they have on the menu is amazing so feel free to try them all as I have probably done. I come here once a week if not more since I live in the area and not to mention I also work a few blocks away so that helps as well. Some of my favorites are the citrus roll and the coconut roll so if you're in the area be sure you stop by. The prices are legit as well so don't miss out. read more

Visit review on 1/01 /16 My wife and I were craving for sushi but due to the fact that it was a New Year's Day I didn't know if any sushi restaurant would be open but luckily here Kiku was open. Server greeted us with a big smile saying Happy New Year . How nice of her. I think her name was Jenny. She recommended some rolls and boy were they delicious. Thor roll was big and fat and very delicious and filling. Jenny taught us some information about sushi. Rolls are just rolls not really sushi and what cut and hand rolls are. Learning new things thanks to her. We will definitely be back here. And I liked how she offered us to try green tea flavor ice cream over vanilla ice cream. Watch out!!! Don't go there if you are Chinese! We went in for lunch today at 11:35 am, ordered 2 lunch combos at 11:40 am. We waited 40 minutes and left at 12:15 pm because the food was still not ready. We told them twice that we have a tight schedule and have a meeting at 12:30. The waitress was so rude, she kept on saying "just wait, it's coming". There were 3 other tables with people who came in after us, they all got their food within 15 minutes. They ordered similar items, we didn't know why ours took so long.Then we realized that we were speaking Chinese. Everyone who got their food before us were non-Asian. I had a really positive experience at Sushi Kuni. Unlike other sushi places I've been to where the chefs seem to be competing in a yelling contest, the chef here was super focused and efficient. Plus, the location is great - plenty of free parking is always a plus. One thing to note is that it can take a while to be seated, but once you are, the service is pretty good and the atmosphere is super chill. And the staff were all super friendly and courteous, which really added to the overall experience. All in all, I'd definitely recommend this restaurant to others and wouldn't hesitate to eat here again. Just maybe try to come at a time when the receptionist isn't too busy! read more

I think im officially a yelp addict! Now, i hate sushi, or the idea thereof, but the Mrs. Wanted some so i went along with it. I was even going to act like i enjoyed it...but raw fish-i don't think so. To my sunrise, no acting was necessary. It was really delicious. The dipping sauces were perfect and nothing was overpowering, and i even forgot i was eating raw fish (just for a moment). This place was really good, and made me a sushi fan. This is our Go To Place when we are in the mood for SUSHI we have been coming here for over 8 years and we do not get tired of coming back. The food is excellent and not to mention the service. The waitresses know us as returning customers. They have literally seen my kids grow and have watch them experience the many different types of plates they have to offer. Haven't been here for quiet some time so I thought I stop by. I was glad to see Jenny working but she seemed busy to help us. The new younger lady helped us but seems like she doesn't know the menu by heart to answer my questions clearly and she kept touching her hair every now on then.
