First timers in New York and we couldnt have been made to feel more welcome by Tracey and her team. By the end of our 6 days we were regulars and thoroughly enjoyed our visits. The surroundings are warm and cosy in the light of the NY winter and the beer and yummy food make for a welcome respite from the sight seeing walking marathons! This is one of those old time Irish Manhattan pubs, straight forward and comfortable. it always feels like a throwback to wall street after work nights when I'm there. It has two entrances and a second floor which can be quiter or have a whole separate event going on depending on the evening. I've never eaten there but the taps are always set up with a decent stable of beers. All in all a decent place to get a little loaded after work. read more

Killarney Rose is right around the corner from my work and since it is one of the very few places in the Financial District that is not ridiculously overpriced, we tend to frequent happy hour here a lot. Happy hour in FiDi is tough if you dont want to spend too much money or hang out with a bunch of people in suits, but Killarney Rose is a great pub hidden away between swanky bars with $15 martinis or $20 hamburgers. THANKFULLY, this place caters to the less affluent, but more vivacious crowd. The first floor is always over crowded, so my group always moves upstairs which has more room, couches and is more like a lounge. The bartenders are all super friendly and a lot of them are Irish, so they definitely add to the pub's atmosphere. Drinks are also reasonably priced, they always have hooegarden bottles for $4, along with a great list of draft beers. This place is great for celebrations, including St. Patrick's Day. I am a low key kind of person, so was worried this place would be too rowdy on St. Pattys, but this was the perfect venue! While it was crowded, the bartenders handled it well and people had enough room to sit and hang out. And I did have my very first Irish car bomb here, which was much better than I expected! Still one of the tastiest and least expensive table service spots in The FiDi. Solid portions of comfort bar food. Had two slabs tasty meatloaf gravy and mash a couple of weeks ago. Great spot by the FiDi. The second floor is the best, this has a great relaxing feeling with couches at the back of the bar. We had the 12 sliders and the appetizer sampler, service was a little slow but then again they were really busy. The place is good on weekends for 5 dollar all draft beer and the food happens to be good.the only thing I do not like about this place is the owner john has a tendency to stare people down making you feel extremely uncomfortable.he has a tendency to do this with not only me but other people I am with. I used to go here all the time after work. After a while you get to know the bartenders. They are REALLY nice and relaxed. Even after a few years of not going, I popped in and one bartender remembered me! The drinks are good and the food is really good too. I recommend the Pollack Fish and Chips! I always get that when I am there. I hate to do it but I took a star off for the bathroom. They need serious redoing. It's way too small and cramped. That's the only thing I sort of dread about going there. Other than that it still doesn't stop me. read more

Had the roast beef and it wasn't bad at all. Lots of exposed brick and wood and a long bar. Clean, cool and well-kept. If you call this a dive bar you're an idiot who has never seen a dive bar. Neat Irish decor and our waitress was a nice looking one with a great Irish accent. A genuine atmosphere, not like some of the others irish pubs whose extent of Irish influence mean a sticker of a couple 4 leaf clovers on the front door. Plenty of TVs and close to the subways. Not the most exciting decor/inside but the drinks are good and cheap for the area. I would come here to grab a quick drink with friends but not really the kind of place I went to spend the whole night at. They have $5 or $6 stoli cocktails all the time too which is nice. Great little bar, with a good laid back vibe, not as hectic and crowded at Stone Street. Living nearby I find myself here often for a quick drink with friends on my way out on the town, never really tried the food. The staff is generous and often gives free drinks. I'd suggest it for happy hour or casual drinks as its never too busy and it has a great upstairs. read more

So I have lived in the Financial District for a few months now, and have been to Kilarney Rose a handful of times. First few times were best, good service, cheaper drinks. The last time I went, there were two male bartenders working (last Thursday), and for some reason I was getting a bad vibe from them. I was casually drinking at the bar with my roommate, and they both decided to ignore us completely, and I have no idea why. None. Anyways, We ordered 4 beers total, which came to $16. I still tipped, because I bartended before, and would have felt bad stiffing them totaly, despite deserving it. Anyways, my roommate and I watched the bartender go over to the register, and enter a $4 tip instead of the $2 I wrote on the receipt. I was kind of in shock, he literally stole money from me. Anyways, it was an extra $2 bucks so I figured not to make a big deal, because I will simply never go back. So all in all, I paid $2 to never see those two guys again, prob worth it. read more

One of the better bars you can find in the financial district. It can be entered from either side and the first floor bar basically runs the width of the building. Bar offers a Standard beer menu, good happy hour offerings. The real tip is go up to the upstairs, the 2nd floor bar is smaller and beer is the same price but served in Imperial Pints. This bar has a good after work scene with a crowded happy hours from the bridge and tunnel crews. Get there 15 mins before 5 if you want to claim an area. If you walk in around 8PM good chance the crowd has thinned and you are left with the people who are in to drinking. The servers are all friendly and food is good. I believe the kitchen must be upstairs or down stairs there is a dumbwaiter and light system which the servers are all trained to react to. It like a conditioning experiment it works well but you will sometimes catch servers all running in to each other as they arrive at the same time. They do have pickle back specials if you are a fan. Killarney Rose is certainly one of the better places to go if you are all the way down town. I came to Killarney Rose to kill time before my reservation at Delmonico's a block away. Though Killarney isn't going to be in any history books for being one of the oldest bars in the city, having been there since the 60s is still an impressive feat. Killarney has two very spacious floors with plenty of elbow room (the second floor has a couple couches but I wouldn't exactly call the whole second floor a lounge). The prices here are average, the bartender was nice, and they also have a good looking menu with more than just fried bar food. With all the room they have I was disappointed to see that they didn't have a pool or a dart board but other than that this is a solid place to grab a cold beer if you're in the downtown area. read more

This place is pretty big, but I especially love the upstairs seating. There are big couches and coffee tables for large groups and personally i think it gives it a cozier feeling. The music situation was a bit annoying. You can tell they had the speakers connected to the iphone cuz every once in a while ud hear the sound of an iphone text message going on the speakers lol. The waitress was nice, and was straight from Ireland. Honestly, I didnt take a look at the prices because I didn't pay but I know that the bill was around 80 or so and there was 6 of us drinking 2 pichers of beer and some shots plus 4 appitizers. Convenient little spot when I am working at my partner firm's offices downtown. It's literally next door, so convenience to the ultimate degree for after work drinks. The food is typical pub grub, but the sliders looked fantastic (and a dozen were pretty rapidly devoured). Prices are decent, and I dig the rough wooden picnic style benches towards the front. It's a lot nicer inside than the sign makes it seem, so give it a whirl! read more

A terrific Irish pub. We were sauntering around the FiDi and had 2 hours to spare before we had a play at the 3LD theatre. Well, we wandered into the right place. The sign outside said $5 10 wings and $10 20 wings, with $4 pints of beer ALL WEEKEND LONG .. we ran inside, ate 30 wings, and downed a couple of Basses. Also had really good $6 Irish Coffee. The bartenders are attentive and polite. The place is pretty big, but I didn't get to see the upstairs because it was closed off for a private party. read more

A cool, 'traditional' bar near Wall St. I say traditional because the decor is dark wood. It is spacious, the service was friendly and prices are reasonable. Solid pub in the financial district area. $10 macallans. But no laphroiag or ardbeg. Just because its open past 9pm in the desolate financial district warrants this at least 3 stars. at least you know if you're trapped in the neighborhood dying of thirst, there will be at least this place that can serve you (unless its after 1230am). read more

A little gem of a hideaway. Wander off the Stone Street Strip and you'll find this one about a block away. Unassuming from the outside, with a 70's/80s sign out front, inside you'll find brick walls with little alcove holes for candles, wide open floor space for plenty of standing and stools/bar tops along the wall for seated dining. Beautiful extended mahogany bar, right by the door there is a couch coffee table setup (first come first serve find) for very relaxed socializing. There are plenty of TVs around to enjoy sports. Showed up here after work on a Wednesday with a friend, it wasn't packed by any means and I don't know if it does get busy, all the frats and suits are probably on Stone St elbow jousting to get to the bar, bathing in each others spilled drinks, but I for one enjoy not having to wrestle for standing space or shouting to talk to a friend, so ill be back for sure. read more

Meh. Killarney Rose gets an extra star because I like the atmosphere, but if this was based on food alone they would only get 2 stars max. So I went to check out KR the other day for lunch and was pleasantly surprised to see that the decor was really cute. It's actually a nice setup for an old Irish bar, it's very clean and has just the right amount of lighting (there were small lamps on the wall over the table which I much prefer over the standard tealight candle that never gives off enough light). Other than the decor, the waitstaff was friendly enough and we ordered an appetizer and our food. We ordered wings for the table and the people I was with each had a salad and I had the meatloaf. The wings were cooked thoroughly, but I was not digging the sauce the wings were tossed in. It was way to tangy. One person mentioned that the salad dressing tasted pretty awful, the other person thought their salad was fine. My meatloaf was pretty bad, it was dry and really lacked any flavor (this goes for the dish as a whole). A little salt goes a long way. Needless to say the food was really disappointing, even for bar food. read more

I came here to celebrate with a few other members of the NYC AnCap group a few weeks ago. Apparently, it's been around for the better part of five decades and it undoubtedly has the ambience of a vintage bar in lower Manhattan. I suppose the atmosphere, which I enjoyed, is one of its chief selling points but it also serves pretty decent food based upon my brief experience, and the bartenders are very professional. Okay was here last night after work for Retirement party for co worker.Chicken wings we're good sliders were good.Drinks uggh!!! Had a margarita not good! There is a lot of room here for large groups. Their drink specials make it so affordable to drink here. We did not eat here. John, our bartender was friendly and personable. They have a full pub menu including wings and burgers. The bathrooms are located upstairs and it wasn't too packed for being located on Manhattan.
