I'm very happy to have this friendly, cozy pub in my neighborhood. I say "cozy" because that's the feel, but it's actually quite large. It doesn't get as crowded as the ones on Stone Street, and I think the prices are better. The waitstaff and bartenders are awesome. I've been coming to the "KR" (as it is affectionately known) for almost 15 years. While the neighborhood and clientele have changed a bit over that time the one thing that has remained the same is the uniquely friendly and "real" atmosphere of the KR. What makes this place a "local" more than anything else are those who work here, not least of whom is Mary, affectionately referred to as "Mare" on any given night by the regulars. She anticipated your orders, remembers who you are and has become a staple, if not draw for so many of use that call this a home away from home. The KR isn't just a bar, it's a reunion ... And you don't need to know anyone to feel at home within minutes. The absolute best happy hour spot in the Financial District, in my humble opinion -- a million times better than Stone Street! The bartenders always treat you right, and the loungier area upstairs is perfect for small and large gatherings (they often let you reserve that area at no cost). I already love this bar because I work in the fidi and they have great prices and the food is decent. The staff is amazing and tonight we had an incredible waitress Gretchen who was insanely quick with getting us new drinks and checking in us. Writing this based on my wife's visit on Saturday night, May 14th. She and the girls made reservations, but this place was completely empty. Based on how she felt the next few days after eating here, we would not recommend this place at all. We read the reviews and we surprised as most people rated them 3 stars. Maybe it was just a bad night, but she would not go there again. Also, someone used the bathroom and left feces all over the floors, bowl, tank and wall of the stall. read more

I first noticed this bar as i know that there is a scene in my favorite movie -boiler room was shot in here. Then I started to like this bar for a number of reasons, its dive, very casual, not as pretentious as other bars in the area. Also the bartenders are very nice, its a good place to come for happy hour. The people here are definitely more laid back than other bars in fi di and with less attitude. read more

One of the best and friendliest pubs in the city. This comes from an unbiased and highly critical reviewer in general though this is my first review. John (the owner) and the other members of the staff are great people. A friend of mine died last year and she was a casual customer. The staff immediately asked what they could do and so we rented the top floor. I've been back since and everyone says hello and John goes out of his way to shake my hand. They aren't over priced and tend to have some fun specials, plus they are near my work but not right on Stone Street which tends to become overcrowded Thursday and Friday nights (moreso in the Summer). This is by far my favorite watering hole in the financial district. I work in the area and often go there for drinks after work. I've been going to so long now that I've developed a pretty good relationship with the staff. I can always count on anyone of the bartenders and waitresses to greet me with a smile and sometimes a fun story. I'm a big fan of the wings, and the rest of the food is pretty good too. 16 yrs ago, when I lived downtown, before the condo and restaurant boom, there was the Rose. It was the perfect, cheap, dark, grubby hole in the wall with a local, grubby crowd, and a steam table on the 2nd floor, featuring big hunks of boiled cornbeef and cabbage. I walked by here today, remembering it fondly, then went to its website (website? that tipped me off right there!). Braised pork? crabcakes? the 2nd fl is only for private use? what the hell is that about?! I was thinking about stopping back in but now it sounds like a wall st/ 20 something/hipster hang out. I give it the 4 stars for what it was, and maybe, someday, I'll venture back and re-rate it. But then why spoil good memories.. read more

I love KR. I live nearby so I drop in sometimes on a Saturday. The weekends are not crowded because its basically a big after work crowd during the week. I also like the Cajun sliders. read more

Just discovered this bar recently after taking an accidental wrong turn on my way to my usual spots on Pearl and Stone streets. Came in around 6pm on a weeknight and the place was lively but not packed which was perfect for me. Grabbed a table near the back of the long bar just to get a feel for the place. Immediately reminded me of a lot of the local Irish pubs I would frequent in my early and mid twenties in Brooklyn and Manhattan which was a definitive positive. Warm and comfortable. A waitress immediately came over to take my order and she was very informative on all the specials and beers on draft. I believe her name was Louise. I was happy to see they also offer food which I did not try this time but the menu looked solid with typical pub options. Had several Stella's which all tasted crisp and fresh which makes me even more happy thinking their taps are clean. Decided to end my night a bit early here only because I was set to meet friends at another bar on Stone but halfway through I kept thinking about asking them to go back to Killarney where it would be less loud and crowded. Not sure what the weekend here is like but plan to return on a weekday where hopefully the crowd is as cool and mellow as I found it to be on my first visit. read more

My girlfriend threw a surprise birthday party for me here a few months back and we used the upstairs lounge. It was excellent and the staff was completely accommodating. They went out of their way to cater to the theme of the party and the food was great. No complaints whatsoever. John, the owner, was understanding and patient with our very large group. Advice: pay cash to avoid riff-raff (sad state of affairs). Non-descript bar in FiDi that should be more fun than it is with sufficient company. I can say I honestly used to vouch for this place given neighborhood and clientele. Anyway, I recently frequented place on a summer Friday to celebrate my good friend's 30th B-Day. Obviously this was meant for to start the party off and the weekend plans were to follow. Long story short our crew grew exponentially and the place was more than adequate to host the event while we maintained good spirits. The real problem existed as we got closer to night's end. I have restaurant experience and monitor computer systems with my tab as bad experiences usually trump good ones. Anyway, we had pretty solid drink specials for the evening quickly erased while I single handedly watched the Positouch screen get respectively padded to the bartender's liking. I understand this probably happens 40% of establishments you spend 2 hours in (Yelpers it indeed does unless the agenda is to minimize a check and maximize tip where possible based on the people who you work for). At the very least, I watched this happen and called it out thoroughly. The girl (big bossomed, bigger behind) said I had no idea what I was talking about and I should remove myself from the establishment for the evening. Either way, I watched my subtotal increase 30% on the screen while the bartenders tried to pad our checks to account for the hipsters that showed up on the bar's dime for a pre-drink and block party to ensue. So yeah, decent spot. If you pay cash and ignore the BS that management doesn't monitor operations sadly. Regardless, the bartender's don't smile, they don't care about you, and God forbid you realize this is the case. Pathetic. This is my first yelp review, I felt that motivated to call out that worthless human being. Many review to follow which will predominately call out the positive in our city. Just needed to voice this as is the complete improper manner in which to run an establishment and if anything someone managing the establishment will see this. read more
