Ok, so this isn't my first time to Killen's but it is my first time in the 'new location' and writing about Killen's. So, wifey and I missed the concert at the rodeo so we decided to have a really nice dinner instead. We were greeted by the Hostess and she took great care of us. We didn't have a reservation but was fortunate enough for a table to open up. The moment we sat down it was on! I had my Macallan 12 neat (of course), and she had her wine. We settled on the scallops for our starter and we were wowed. Cooked perfectly. For our main she had the grouper and I had the Rosewood Wagyu fillet. I'm from Florida so I don't usually order grouper in Texas. It's a Florida dish. Don't get me wrong, wifey's grouper was amazing. If you want seafood they will impress you. Now let's switch gears and discuss the fillet. I had the 6oz medium rare and it was epic! I would stack this steak up against any steakhouse in the greater Houston area. It was tender. Color was perfectly uniform. Flavor was outstanding. This fillet could turn a vegetarian into a meat eater. It was that good. Now for the sides....tried but could finish it because it was family size portions. We had the roasted Brussel sprouts and monster size grilled asparagus. Super good too by the way. Finishing off the awesome meal was a creme brûlée cheesecake that we took home for a nightcap. Man, that desert was good. I saw my son inch closer to the box. I have been thinking about this experience for a few days and upon reflection felt compelled to share. We were having a celebratory dinner--we've loved the food in the past and were excited for the occasion so we made the nearly hour long trip out. As we were halfway through our main courses. A roach crawled across the table, grazing my plate and scurried toward my sister. We were very polite about it, however sickened. Toward the end of the meal, a man stopped by (presumably the manager) and awkwardly acknowledgement the issue, minimizing the fact that a roach joined us for our meal at his establishment. He offered us a dessert, which we declined. That was it--we received our $350 bill with barely even an apology. It definitely isn't the type of hospitality one would expect at even a casual chain restaurant. We were low key about it, and went on about our night, but retrospectively I am appalled and hope future customers don't have a roach at their table or if they do, this type of experience. read more

I took a friend to dinner last night at Killen's Steakhouse not only because I knew the food would be great, but because Randy was working. The dude takes genuine pride in his craft. He's reminiscent of the 3rd generation waiters at the old guard dining establishments like Antoine's or Galatoire's. He's truly in the hospitality business, and takes that to heart. He makes you feel welcomed and comfortable, while still maintaining some of the genteel dynamic. He works at Pearland an I believe STQ as well. I was told to check out Killen's and have heard great things about it! I ordered wine for my drink and I loved it! I like sweet wines and it was definitely my kind of sweet. For an appetizer, started off with the bacon wrapped scallops. I really enjoyed these! Good amount of food to start off with. The filet was cooked nicely and tasted great! I ate all of it. For a side I got the mac and cheese. It was okay, but I'll try a different side next time. I like our waitress. She was helpful and even brought out a napkin to match my black dress. The restaurant has a sleek look to it on the inside. The lights were dim which gave it a nice and relaxed ambiance. Although the food is pricey, it's definitely worth it. My wife took me here for my birthday. I had a big thick juicy steak. I frequent bars on steak night and have found the ribeyes to be delicious. It is a hard pill to swallow when I pay for a steak that is twice the price without being much better. I was not disappointed with Killens at all. First of all, I really don't understand all of the 3 star (and lower) ratings. To the person last month who only complained about an unwanted credit card charge, uhhh, how was the food? They just debuted a new menu this week so I thought I had my entree picked out at home, but something called 'gumbosso buco' caught my eye. I asked the waiter about it and he recommended it. It was probably the best take on osso buco I've ever had. You can really taste Ronnie's influence on the smoked shank, and the accompanying roux to pour over the meat was wonderful. Two words: GET THIS!! My wife had a caesar salad and the snapper with crabmeat topping, and both were great. In fact, she couldn't finish the snapper, so I willingly helped her. I am not a close friend to Ronnie, but have spoken to him on more than one occasion. Let me say this, I have been impressed by Ronnie, his food makes a huge impression as it is executed to perfection, or near perfection for those that insist nothing is perfect! We had been wanting to try this place for quite sometime. We love a great steak and have been all over trying good steakhouses. First off, the service was amazing, super friendly staff. My filet was pretty good but, I have had a lot better. The sides were more than adequate in proportion and were tasty. I don't think we would ever come back specifically to eat here, due to the fact there are much better choices closer to my proximity. Ordered dry aged ribeye. Ordered medium rare - I got almost medium well. Pros: Very rich and buttery flavor. Though a bit over cooked than I expected, the quality of beef was great. Tender but can feel the texture well. My friend's wet aged steak was less dry btw. The cheese and broccoli risotto is really good. I will give 5 stars to the whole grain toast and baguette. Cons: The steak!! Way too salty, a bit dry, got over cooked. Actually a little disappointed.... There are reasons why such a nice looking restaurant has consistently poor ratings - and my wife and I were reminded of at least a few of those reasons last night. First of all, HUGE parking lot, but "complimentary parking" is required. Most people (including myself) feel compelled to pay the guy who takes your car and brings your car. Total waste of time and money. Next, for such a beautiful set up as you walk in, the restaurant is the opposite of welcoming. Loud and bright bar area to the immediate right as you walk in actually made me feel like a patty was going on rather than what I expect when entering a posh steakhouse. Third, waitstaff - Everyone likes to be welcomed, but a brief greeting along with a few "special" tips are appropriate as you're seated, not an interview. We had determined what we wanted to drink and eat pretty quickly, even though we had to PULL any specials out of the waiter. Our drinks came out pretty quickly and now we're ready to order - we're hungry, that's why we decided to stop by - but no, our waiter excused himself to greet more customers. After 30 minutes our drinks and half our bread gone, we still hadn't ordered and actually had to call down Rod (training) and Ryan, supposedly teaching. We told them that we really wanted to order some food and they immediately started trying to explain what they were busy doing. That's it - we're out. I can't even review our meal because we never got one. We paid $40 for our 2 drinks, $10 for parking and pick up and headed to Whataburger. My foodie friend convinced me to drive out to Pearland to try what she declares to be the best steak in Houston. She knows I'm a serious carnivore and have been known to harshly criticize steaks (even feeding a disappointing $125 number to my dogs.) Beginning with some stellar appetizers, this dinner definitely impressed! The pork belly was melt-in-your mouth silky with plenty of luscious fat. Smoky... sweet... delicious. The bacon-wrapped scallop was hearty and satisfying. Of course the star of the meal was the steak. We split the ginormous 27 oz Snake River Farms Domestic Wagyu, and it was absolutely divine. Perfectly seasoned, every tender bite delivered a deep, rich, beefiness that can only be achieved with proper aging. Every bite was satisfying. Best steak in Houston? It's definitely up there. The worse part is my dry aged steak was a very sinewy, tough chunk of meat to cut with little flavor. I had such a wonderful birthday dinner here! I made reservations online a few days in advance and they were curtesy enough to call the day of to confirm. Upon arriving, there's complimentary valet provided which is a nice feature. The restaurant was clean and we were quickly seated by the hostess. They also provided a birthday card upon my reservation as well! Our waiter was very attentive and I appreciated the little details he did for us such as splitting our gumbo soup into two bowls so we didn't have to share one big bowl. He also added a sweet birthday dish at the end even though we were super full from dinner and had passed on desserts. The food overall was amazing! I definitely came here to try their steaks and I was not disappointed. I had the filet mignon 8oz. with the cheese broccoli risotto as my sides! Both were so flavorful and nicely seasoned. My fiancé had the New York strip and the mushrooms as his sides, also delicious! Meals were paired with a rose wine & st. Arnold's beer. That's their medium rare. Dry aged toughest and driest piece of steak that I ever tasted. But I have to be fair. The staff is flawless and that's why the experience didn't entirely ruined my anniversary. Sides tasted way better than the steak (risotto and Brussels sprouts) My tip: saltgrass at target strip has a way superior ribeye for a fraction of the price. I'd only come back for happy hour just because of the staff. Killens business is bbq and that's it. We checked in and sat at the bar for about 5 minutes while our table was ready. At the bar we ordered a nuts & bolt whiskey. This drink is a must try. I like how they add homade pecans on the top which is really cute. The menu for New Year's Eve is a price set for $95 per person. For each person it comes with an appetizer, soup or salad, entree (with one side, very large so it's shareable), and dessert. I had the jumbo lump crabcake, the lobster bisque soup, the lobster rockefeller witch mashed potatoes, and the carrot cake for dessert. All my food was delicious! The lobster bisque soup had a lot of flavor. The carrot cake was very tasty and warm. The service was also great. Our waiter was kind and professional. All of our food came out in a timely manner. Ten minutes before 12am (for New Years) the waiter told us that they serve complementary champagne to countdown to the new year. That was nice. I absolutely enjoyed my visit very much. My wife and I have gone to eat here several times in the past and our experience was excellent. This last time, Friday (5/17/24), it was absolutely horrible. We ordered steaks, potatoes, au gratin and brussels sprouts, all pretty standard steakhouse dishes. Both of our steaks were extremely salty to the point where I couldn't even finish them and something made both me and my wife violently sick that night, the following day, and the next day (today). I think it was the brussels sprouts. Either way the service was ok, food has gone downhill, and the environment overall average. If you're looking to go out for a nice dinner there's much better places to spend your money at. If you do choose Killins, I pray you don't get as sick as we did. read more

My family took me to Killen's for Mother's Day. Note, we have been there several times over the last 18 years. The quality has consistent gone downhill. While my family loves steak, I try their other dishes. The duck has absolutely NO FLAVOR - ordered that a few years ago and will not give it a second chance so went with the salmon this time. SO GROSS. It looked boiled on the outside, inside it was super raw and gelatinous. It was placed upon a bed of mushy rice (?) wrapped in bok choy (?) in what they described as curry - far from it. Still one of my favorite steak places in Houston but the move from the original location took away a lot of the "local" and intimate feel. Nuts and Bolts is my favorite drink anywhere. I haven't gone wrong with any of the sides. To be honest, double broiled prime steak is pretty similar at most high end places but the sides and dessert are really what differentiates Killens from the others. My only negative is the valet. There is absolutely no need for a valet in this area and the lack of self parking makes makes a place unnecessarily pretentious. read more
