I had to pick somewhere to eat my birthday meal at and Killer Shrimp was the place I chose. I remember driving by this place like 4-5 months ago and liking the way it looked, well, it stuck and last Sunday my wife and I found ourselves here for lunch. The restaurant itself is pretty dang nice, offering indoor seating along with a chopper in the lobby, as well as outdoor seating on the deck with some nice views of the water. When we first came in, we were not greeted by the hostess, and to be honest she was kind of rude when she seated us almost seeming annoyed when I asked a question about the outdoor seating. Moving on from that, our waiter was wonderful and extremely friendly during out stay. He refilled drinks and was pleasant to have around. If you couldn't tell by the name, this place does seafood and thats exactly why we came. We ordered some appetizers and entrees and split everything, so let's break down what was consumed. Killer Shrimp Roll- This is what my wife ordered, but she forced me to try it. This sandwich was absolutely incredible! The bread was soft, the seafood tasted so good, and the combo of those things together was so dang good. Spicy Chicken Tenders- I really enjoyed these. The chicken itself was pretty tender and the buffalo sauce wasn't overbearing, it was just right. Fried Calamari- Standard fried calamari, nothing to write home about but it was pretty solid. Killer Mac & Cheese- Creamy, Cheesy, Tasty! This was so good Mac & Cheese, really good. Seafood Platter- Snow Crab Claws and Shrimp served chilled. Everything here was good, I mean, It's crab claws and shrimp so you basically get what you expect here. Crab meat was very good and so was the shrimp. Lobster Tail- The best part of the meal here. The lobster tail tasted great, was served already outside of the skin and was easy to consume. So, so, good. Overall, Killer Shrimp was a fantastic place to have a birthday meal. The food here was fantastic, the views were wonderful, and even though the hostess who seated us was kind of rude, the rest of the staff was wonderful and took care of us during out visit. Killer Shrimp has been around for years and has got even better. The food was great with the shrimp, lobster and crab claws swimming in the special broth and plenty of French bread for dunking. The view of the marina from the balcony is also excellent. The bonus was the great live music upstairs I enjoyed after dinner. I haven't been to killer shrimp in over 10 years. It felt good to dine here again and knowing the food is still tasty and flavorful and the service is still excellent. We had a party of 25 to celebrate a birthday and the staff was very accommodating. We sat towards the back dinning room area where they have lots of windows with a good view of the marina. For smaller parties they do have outdoor seating which is a nice on a warm day. They have a separate sports bar area to the right when you first walk in. Full bar, lots of TVs and open seating at the bar or the high top and regular tables. The food was packed with lots of flavor. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Of course the most popular dish is their spicy homemade sauce that comes out piping hot. It comes with shrimp but they do have an option to add a lobster tail and/or crab. Very tasty but definitely on the spicy side. I ordered the shrimp and lobster enchiladas ... YUM!!! It was paired with ginger rice and black beans. It was absolutely delicious. They raved about the signature dish's kick, and knowing how much my daughter loves a similar spicy shrimp dish back at Cha Cha Cha in San Francisco's Haight district, I figured it would be a hit with her, too. We opted for the Shelled Killer Shrimp, and it didn't disappoint. It packs a good level of spice and comes with plenty of bread to soak up all that incredible broth--absolutely loved it. We also tapped into their daily Happy Hour menu (which runs Monday through Sunday) and ordered the HH Ceviche, which was fresh and delicious. To drink, we ordered the flavored lemonades--one mint and one mixed berry. Both were refreshing, but needed a little more flavor. Note: They really need to add a few non-alcoholic options directly to their Happy Hour menu. The vibe outdoor is great. Sitting at the outdoor bar tables right next to the marina gave us gorgeous water views and a wonderful breeze. While the setting is beautiful, the interior of the restaurant itself could use a slight face-lift, as the indoor decor feels a bit dated. On the practical side, parking was ample and easy. When we arrived, there was only one server working the entire Happy Hour / Sports Bar section. The poor dude was completely overwhelmed trying to cover about 30+ people on his own. It felt a little odd seeing two staff members at the host stand while one server ran the entire floor, and we actually had to walk up to the host desk just to let them know we were ready to order. This was my second time at this restaurant. The ambiance is impeccable with views right on the water of the marina. The menu is HUGE! Decided to share calamari and the king paella. I wish the fried appetizer had a little more seasoning in the breading. The paella was good and I liked how much seafood was as in it (crab meat, scallops, lobster and more) in addition to sausage and peppers as well. We came on a Fourth of July right when it opened, I saw it was pretty famous. we were able to be seated quickly only in the bar area as reservations filled at the rest of the restaurant. Service was pretty good. We could see the water beautiful location right next to the marina may need to reserve those balcony seats, though in advance. Surprisingly I thought the best item wasn't even the seafood it was the burger we ordered and when they accidentally brought out the wrong fries, they gladly added the sweet potato fries on top, which were honestly really amazing too. however, what I came for, the seafood, was just OK - Seafood soup was average, soup had decent flavor, but seafood quality was just OK. I was disappointed by the killer shrimp, it was just shrimp i feel like I could've had anywhere, and I did not really like the spicy base soup it came in--too black peppery IMO. The French roll for dipping it came with was also slightly stale, and not even crunchy. 250! Happy Independence Day, America! A huge shout out to Gianna, our sweet, efficient, and adorable server at Killer Shrimp at Marina del Rey. She did everything perfect. Made sure I had the perfect whiskey highball, got us extra blue cheese for the salad, extra lemon, and made sure our pug had his hamburger and rice meal. Their pup menu for only seven bucks is a deal! It's a lot of food for a dog. The manager, Dane, personally came over and talked to me about the highball ingredients to make sure it was just how I liked it. Perfect highball with Angel's Envy, club soda, a splash of ginger ale, and lime. You just can't beat Killer Shrimp. What a great place to come on Independence Day! 8/29/26 - Killer Shrimp in Marina del Rey My family of four, two adults and two kids came in without a reservation at around 6:54 PM. We signed in and were told to wait. We understood that we didn't have a reservation and were completely prepared to wait for a table. By 7:39 PM, we had been waiting for about 45 minutes. My daughter was hungry and started crying, so I went to the head manager, Michell, and simply asked if there was any way they could offer my kids something small to eat while we continued waiting -- even a snack, appetizer, or anything available. His response and attitude were completely unacceptable. Instead of trying to help or even speaking to us respectfully, Michell aggressively told me that we had to wait like everyone else, that they couldn't do anything for us, and that he didn't know how much longer we would have to wait. Eventually, he refused to serve us at all. What shocked me even more was his attitude when I mentioned leaving a review. Michell actually said that "writing reviews is for losers." I have honestly never heard a restaurant manager speak to a customer like that. I understand that restaurants get busy. I understand that we came without a reservation. I understand having to wait. That is not the issue. The issue is how a head manager speaks to a family with two hungry kids after they have already been patiently waiting for almost an hour. A manager is supposed to de-escalate situations, communicate professionally, and make customers feel respected -- especially when children are involved. Michell did the exact opposite. His tone was aggressive, dismissive, and extremely unprofessional. Management seriously needs to address this. Michell needs training on customer service, communication, and basic respect for guests. I would also strongly suggest that restaurant management consider having some kind of option for families who are waiting 40-60+ minutes, even if customers have to pay for it. A small snack, drink, or appetizer for hungry children would make a huge difference. I am extremely disappointed with how my family was treated. I want to preface this review with a few things. I have been a fan and regular at Killer Shrimp all the way since 1994 when they had a small place on the second floor of a strip mall in Marina Del Rey and a small place in Universal City. They disappeared for a bunch of years, and we all feared it was lost forever. Luckily they came back. Since they came back, I don't believe I've actually eaten at the restaurant. When I lived on the west side, I think I just took it home and once I moved far away to the San Gabriel Valley, I would get it to go for everyone at home. So this was either the first time I've eaten at the current large MDR restaurant or at least since back around when it first opened at this new location. Therefore, my four stars is for the fact I still get this every few months (when I happen to be close enough to the Westside to make it worth venturing over to get the amazing shrimp and bread to go) and it's always been fantastic. Eating at the place itself last week was anything but fantastic, however. It was July 3rd, so the place was busy for dinner. I know other Yelpers have posted pics of it, and it was sad to see, but cleanliness is not particularly important here. Not only were we sat at a booth where there was a rolling tray behind us where everyone's else's plates were taken and dumped when they were done eating (so the smell wasn't pleasant), but there was old food and liquid (or soup/sauce) sprayed all over the wall of the booth that no one ever bothered to clean. The place was filthy. I wish it wasn't, but it was. I got the peeled shrimp with pasta, and my compatriots got the shelled original shrimp. I found two immediate problems with mine. Taking it home probably does the peeled shrimp good, because it can sit and marinate in the sauce until you eat it. Immediately out of the kitchen, the shrimp were sadly bland and flavorless despite the sauce being as good as ever. It was like the shrimp were boiled and tossed in just as the dish was going out to the table. I also noticed that the pasta was made of incredibly small, broken pieces of pasta. You couldn't even wrap it around a fork, which I usually have no problem with at home. There were no major problems with the shelled shrimp. I also had ordered a lobster tail added to my shrimp and pasta, but the dish came out with no lobster tail. I was told it still had to be cooked. I was under the impression it would be cooked in the sauce with the shrimp. The lobster finally came out about 10 minutes later, and it was frightening. I tried to get the tail out of the shell and it crumbled like dust. It tasted funky, too. I had to get my guest to try it. They just felt a piece and immediately warned me not to eat it. The tail was in fact bad. Probably frozen and thawed, maybe more than once, its texture had disintegrated. They took the tail back and took it off the bill. Basically, I will be back, but I will only get my killer shrimp to go. I don't want to eat at the dirty location again. If I hadn't just ate it a month and a half ago, I'd probably be giving them a very low score based on this one meal. However, I know they still have the mojo. Maybe just not for the dine-in experience. I recommend it still, as there is nothing else similar or quite like it. However, I suggest you get your food to go! read more

My first and hopefully not my last visit at Killer Shrimp in Marina Del Rey! The restaurant has a classic feel & lovely ambiance, with beautiful views of the Marina. It felt very private and secluded, we had a lovely time celebrating my mom for Mother's day here. The food was absolutely delicious with great prices. We tried their specialty Killed Shrimp with shelled shrimp, shrimp were cooked perfectly and the broth was absolutely delightful. It was a good portion to share between my party of 5, each of us got around 3/4 shrimps. There was plenty of broth for all of us to dip the yummy french bread into. I was impressed by the shrimp scampi with garlic mash as well as the blackened salmon! I expect nothing less from a classic seafood restaurant, even the chicken Alfredo was delicious and unique. I docked a star because many times through the night we couldn't find our waitress Carerra, she was very kind but she forgot our refills and we didn't really see her at all for the last 30 minutes or so of dinner. I wanted to give a special thanks to Pedro, he was not our server (I think he was a busboy) and he was helping us out by getting us our refills, bringing our to go containers and cleaning up the table. We had a memorable experience dining at Killer Shrimp for 4th of July! Our waitress was amazing! She went above and beyond to accommodate our daughter with food allergies. She was able to adjust the kid's meal to grilled shrimp and rice. She also recommended a drink for me. I realized there was almond syrup in it so we notified her and she changed my drink order right away. She quickly took away the Mai Tai from our table too. She also was accommodating to every request we made with patience and kindness. Although the service was slow, it was to be expected on a holiday. But Happy Hour wasn't so happy food-wise. We had seen their menu online showing $1 oysters all day, only to find out after ordering that the ACTUAL Happy Hour prices have changed and I'm now charged $17 instead of $6. The manager said he'd never seen that website before so it would need investigation. Fine, but meanwhile how about honoring that price since it's not MY fault it's still being advertised? To my disappointment, he wasn't able to give me the $1 pricing and instead handed me a 10% off the regular menu coupon for my next visit that I'll never use because I shant be returning! Great. More skrimpiness.. ALL oysters were tiny, thin and not meaty. Tasty, sure. Value for money, not at all. Calamari wasn't soft and tender and tasted like the microwaved version. The squid pieces inside were small. There were also empty batter rings with NO Calamari. SKRIMPY. Chicken tacos, not skrimpy but rather drowned in a sea of chopped onions. Possibly frozen chicken used? Definitely not fresh and very dry. The Baseline: For a seafood fine dining the fish/seafood needs to be fresh, the presentation must excel beyond a casual seafood place, there must be a selection of accompanying offerings, and there are unique offerings. Food: The Original Shrimp is what you come here for. Shrimp. Spicy broth base. Bread. That is the original with all its glory and I can remember when it was on the second story of a strip mall sitting above a Subway and Tajrish Kabob House. If you get the original it still holds up to my memories of it at its original location. Also the fries and lobster roll were good. The Snickers Pie was a decent desert. The Original is what holds up the food rating. Service: The service was fine but we had a bit of waiting and we had to ask for the desert menu rather than have it offered. I also had to ask for water refills. Ambiance: As much as I had nostalgia for the Washington Blvd location, eating your meal while overlooking the marina is far superior. This is a great location that the owners are really using to its best for the square footage of this place. The building holds the Killer Cafe (breakfast place) and a Speakeasy (bar). 9/30/25 I was in town for business and wanted to have a nice dinner with my friend. Since she was dog sitting we needed a pet friendly spot and Killer Shrimp was perfect with their outdoor patio. The ambiance was very welcoming, inviting, and causal. We ordered the lobster mac and cheese, shrimp tacos, mini crab cakes, and a garden salad with vinaigrette. Decent spot to get some above average seafood at MDR. The shrimp itself is very flavorful, although the spice levels were not as advertised. The fried seafood platter was cooked well; the coconut shrimp in particular was good. Service was pleasant, although the table hadn't been fully wiped down when we were seated. If I could give a zero I would. I ordered 2 orders of the Killer Shrimp with Lobster and Crab through DoorDash on their online ordering website (Killer Shrimp). Mind you I picked the order up myself. When I arrived home the crab was missing out of both orders. I called the restaurant and was transferred to the Manager name Dane. He was quite rude. I was told that I had to go through the app to get a refund. I was not asking for a refund, I was simply asking for what I paid for. I told him DoorDash did not prepare the food they did. We came to celebrate a birthday at Killer Shrimp and unfortunately had one of the worst dining experiences we've had in a long time. Our reservation was at 9:00 PM, yet it took 30 minutes just for appetizers to arrive after ordering, and then OVER AN HOUR for our entrees to come out. Completely unacceptable. The service was terrible from start to finish. Our waiter barely checked on us the entire night! No refills, no follow-up, nothing. The most frustrating part was that we planned to order dessert for the birthday celebration, only to be told the kitchen was closed. Yet somehow our waiter never thought to mention the kitchen was about to close or ask if we wanted to order anything else beforehand. Basic communication and customer service were completely lacking. To make matters worse, the bill came out to $352 for food that was mediocre at best. For that amount of money, we could have gone to a much better restaurant with far superior food and service. I highly DO NOT recommend this place. Save your money and spend it somewhere that actually values its customers. SMH. read more

Wasn't much years ago but hype, but now there is so much crosstalk among the staff. The person tending bar spent an enormous amount of time trying to install drains, right in front of me; on and off for about 10 minutes. The shrimp slop is the same. You want to eat a decent amount of spicy shrimp in 'soup' with a ton of bread to fill up? Perfect. Couldn't get my water glassed refilled, A couple of regulars got some service. The bar server is one of these people who think by wearing gloves they are being cleanly. No!! They are being disgusting. They touch drains, make drinks, touch food plats, napkin setups. But, just keep wearing the same damned pair of gloves!! Handwashing? Nah! I got my gloves on!!! Not even a 'thank you' when I left. A rather unfriendly, poor service experience.
