Their pup menu for only seven bucks is a deal! It's a lot of food for a dog. The manager, Dane, personally came over and talked to me about the highball ingredients to make sure it was just how I liked it. Perfect highball with Angel's Envy, club soda, a splash of ginger ale, and lime. You just can't beat Killer Shrimp. What a great place to come on Independence Day! We are sitting outside on the patio, looking at the water and the boats, eating seafood and enjoying life and each other. I highly recommend coming here. Everyone is always happy. Service was pretty good. We could see the water beautiful location right next to the marina may need to reserve those balcony seats, though in advance. Surprisingly I thought the best item wasn't even the seafood it was the burger we ordered and when they accidentally brought out the wrong fries, they gladly added the sweet potato fries on top, which were honestly really amazing too. however, what I came for, the seafood, was just OK - Seafood soup was average, soup had decent flavor, but seafood quality was just OK. I was disappointed by the killer shrimp, it was just shrimp i feel like I could've had anywhere, and I did not really like the spicy base soup it came in--too black peppery IMO. The French roll for dipping it came with was also slightly stale, and not even crunchy. However, the garlic bread that came with the seafood soup was pretty good. overall just OK would not necessarily recommend. read more

We came to celebrate a birthday at Killer Shrimp and unfortunately had one of the worst dining experiences we've had in a long time. Our reservation was at 9:00 PM, yet it took 30 minutes just for appetizers to arrive after ordering, and then OVER AN HOUR for our entrees to come out. Completely unacceptable. The service was terrible from start to finish. Our waiter barely checked on us the entire night! No refills, no follow-up, nothing. The most frustrating part was that we planned to order dessert for the birthday celebration, only to be told the kitchen was closed. Yet somehow our waiter never thought to mention the kitchen was about to close or ask if we wanted to order anything else beforehand. Basic communication and customer service were completely lacking. To make matters worse, the bill came out to $352 for food that was mediocre at best. For that amount of money, we could have gone to a much better restaurant with far superior food and service. We had a memorable experience dining at Killer Shrimp for 4th of July! Our waitress was amazing! She went above and beyond to accommodate our daughter with food allergies. She was able to adjust the kid's meal to grilled shrimp and rice. She also recommended a drink for me. I realized there was almond syrup in it so we notified her and she changed my drink order right away. She quickly took away the Mai Tai from our table too. She also was accommodating to every request we made with patience and kindness. Although the service was slow, it was to be expected on a holiday. Our orders came throughout our dining with no mistakes. We had a booth table and a view of the marina. I look forward to trying the many drink and food items on their extensive menu. My first and hopefully not my last visit at Killer Shrimp in Marina Del Rey! The restaurant has a classic feel & lovely ambiance, with beautiful views of the Marina. It felt very private and secluded, we had a lovely time celebrating my mom for Mother's day here. The food was absolutely delicious with great prices. We tried their specialty Killed Shrimp with shelled shrimp, shrimp were cooked perfectly and the broth was absolutely delightful. It was a good portion to share between my party of 5, each of us got around 3/4 shrimps. There was plenty of broth for all of us to dip the yummy french bread into. I was impressed by the shrimp scampi with garlic mash as well as the blackened salmon! I expect nothing less from a classic seafood restaurant, even the chicken Alfredo was delicious and unique. I docked a star because many times through the night we couldn't find our waitress Carerra, she was very kind but she forgot our refills and we didn't really see her at all for the last 30 minutes or so of dinner. I wanted to give a special thanks to Pedro, he was not our server (I think he was a busboy) and he was helping us out by getting us our refills, bringing our to go containers and cleaning up the table. He was absolutely amazing & we were so grateful he stepped in to help us out. Also the women's restroom looked as though it was not cleaned in a while. Arlene the host was quick, friendly and fast. She was very respectful and sweet. Our server, Bernardino, was such a high performing person. He always checked in on us. Made sure our drinks were full and that we weren't waiting on anything. He was very quick. Arlene and Bernardino were such a delight. They both thanked us for coming and said they welcome us to come back again. A lot of restaurants forget to do this before customers leave. So this was a nice touch. Everything my party ordered was absolutely delicious, and it was honestly pretty affordable especially for a nice seafood dinner. My favorites of the night were the classic Killer Shrimp which was delicious paired with the french bread, the Blackened Salmon which was so tender and flavorful, and unexpectedly, the Lobster & Shrimp Enchiladas! The manager said he'd never seen that website before so it would need investigation. Fine, but meanwhile how about honoring that price since it's not MY fault it's still being advertised? That is the original with all its glory and I can remember when it was on the second story of a strip mall sitting above a Subway and Tajrish Kabob House. If you get the original it still holds up to my memories of it at its original location. Also the fries and lobster roll were good. The Snickers Pie was a decent desert. The Original is what holds up the food rating. Service: The service was fine but we had a bit of waiting and we had to ask for the desert menu rather than have it offered. I also had to ask for water refills. Ambiance: As much as I had nostalgia for the Washington Blvd location, eating your meal while overlooking the marina is far superior. This is a great location that the owners are really using to its best for the square footage of this place. The building holds the Killer Cafe (breakfast place) and a Speakeasy (bar). Well this is hard to write. Killer Shrimp used to be one of my favorites. But after today I don't think I will be back...I've been coming here for decades. But like the saying goes "all good things must come to an end". I had the original Killer Shrimp and unfortunately it was way too spicy for me to enjoy. I asked to get something different which is usually not a big deal, however it started a chain of issues. A manager was called over and he gave me this long explanation as to why the usually world not take it back. I felt the conversation was way too involved and really unnecessary . At the end they did take my order off my receipt . But it just felt like shaming. To be honest I doubt I will be back. The fried seafood platter was cooked well; the coconut shrimp in particular was good. Service was pleasant, although the table hadn't been fully wiped down when we were seated. My tequila cocktail was fine, although my girlfriend wasn't really feeling the Smokey Mezcal Paloma she got. We were seated by a booth next to the water, so that was cool. We live close enough to walk there but they have a parking lot. It's free during the day and valet at night. The servers are great. We almost always order the Short Rib entree. It's shareable and totally delicious. It's a huge piece of meltingly tender meat served with mashed potatoes, awesome gravy and spinach. It comes topped with fried onion strings. If I could give zero stars, I would. I've been in the restaurant business for over 30 years, and honestly, this was one of the weirdest and most horrible bar experiences I've ever had. I asked the bartender if he could make a drink with four basic ingredients, one of which was sweet-and-sour mix. He told me they didn't have sweet-and-sour. I was genuinely surprised, as it's a very common bar ingredient that almost all bars have. When I expressed my surprise, the situation escalated quickly. Instead of a simple explanation or alternative suggestion, I was told to get the fuck out of his bar. "His bar". Wow. Mind you it's about 1pm in the afternoon and I'm a restaurant owner. I'm not hiding behind the screen and they know exactly who I am. I expected the manager BRETT, to ask for my side of the story or try to resolve the situation. Instead, I was immediately escorted out. What concerns me most is that the owner solid person and has put a lot into this place. Although rude weathered employees that are so burnt out so much at what they are doing are running this place to a shit hole. I recently visit Killer Shrimp for the very first time and I was a little disappointed. The place has a parking lot that it's all valet parking, you have to pay $10 + tip to park there. They have another parking lot in the back that's free but I don't understand why are they charging to park at their own parking lot which is really big. The place smells really fishy, and not the good fish smell that comes from the dishes. The hosts are very young girls that don't have any training, they're not very welcoming or helpful. The food itself was good! Specially the shrimp dishes, I ordered some fish tacos and they were very plain and found myself needing a lot of salt for it. The bathrooms are very dirty, which is very surprising for a restaurant that has very expensive dishes. There was water everywhere on the sinks and the smell was just bad. Overall I wouldn't recommend going to this restaurant. You can find better places for the price. read more

It was tough deciding what star rating to give. The service was extremely slow. We had reservations; when they sat us down they handed us two very used (and dirty) pre-used cheap paper menus. I think these should only be used once or it would make sense for them to invest in proper reusable menus. It took 15 minutes for the server to come by. I asked for the drink menu, the waitress forgot to ever bring it. It took about 10+ minutes to eventually get a simple Pacifico beer (which was served at a warmer temperature than most restaurants serve beer). But the killer shrimp food was absolutely delicious and Perfect! It has never changed (nor should it). She told me how'd she drive from pretty far away to go to the original location in her youth and that it was better than Boiling Crab.... It is not. I also ordered Killer Spiced Fries because I knew I was starting a diet a couple days after and I LOVE fries! I found everything but the fries to be average at best. The fries were definitely above average but if a restaurant is called Killer Shrimp, I expect the shrimp to be the star of the show. We arrived right when they opened, so there was no wait. The host was super friendly and took the time to tell me her favorite items on the menu. Server was competent and the vibe in there was very much a 90s experience. I felt like I was eating out in my childhood. Lastly, I'll acknowledge that it may be unfair to compare Killer Shrimp to the superior Boiling Crab... I was excited to try this place for the first time, but was turned off immediately - Yelp says private parking lot, but on a Friday at 3pm it's already valet parking only when you pull into the lot. Apparently, there's self-parking available, but no signs. Valet is $9, which is steep. We were intentionally trying to hit between the lunch and dinner crowd. Food was meh. I've had shrimp in a bag before, and just tried the broth and bread of my friends, so I opted for a lobsta roll. My benchmarks are Boston lobsta rolls and the Cousin's truck here in So Cal. Killer Shrimp's lobsta roll is $30 with cole slaw and tater tots. About $10 more than the Cousins truck. The brioche roll was more like garlic bread, not the brioche hot dog buns you get in Boston. The lobsta was kinda dry, and not big chunks. I should've gotten something else. Not sure if they weigh the original shrimp bowls or what, but my friends got different number of shrimp. 8-12 shrimp. That's quite variable. I liked the broth, so maybe I'll try that if I go again (not likely unless I meet the same friends). My friend added a lobsta tail to an entree for $17 and it was bigger than I thought since the pics on Yelp look like a Sizzler lobster. That might vary too, if by weight. Looked good. Ambiance is nice, I would've like to sit outside if possible, but we had a big table inside. They advertise great views of the marina, but we didn't have a window table, we were about 10 ft from a window. Service needs a bit of work - never came to check on us or refill our drinks, which is kinda key when you're serving up spicy shrimp. After we were done, they cleared the table gearing up for the dinner crowd. Not rude like some places that tell you there's a time limit, but it was obvious they wanted us to move along. Yelp says "tipping optional" and "tipping optional for large parties" but beware the menu says 18% added for groups of 6+ and a service charge was added to the bill along with a line for "additional tip." I didn't do the math to check the actual percentage of the service charge. Although this place is famous, I can see why it's only 3-stars.
