We had the AYCE for Saturday lunch and it was a very satisfying meal. The seafood, veggies and sauce bar was clean, fresh and neatly organized, and I like they have two types of house sauce ready, cause I often don't even know what I need to mix to make a good sauce. The meat was good quality and tender too, and I loved the house broth. The house porridge at the end was definitely a cherry on top. 10/10 highly recommend it!!
It pains me to write this as I was truly excited to check out this place. I was in Koreatown and was looking for places to eat and this one had great reviews. It should've been a red flag already coming in with no customers in the restaurant, but I gave it benefit of the doubt. No issues with customer service as everyone was incredibly nice. When I was sitting at the table; I noticed a cockroach on the wall. Not wanting to alarm my parents I decided to ignore it. Thinking back, I really should have told them and gotten up right away because it made me iffy and anxious the entire time. Surely enough, my intuition was correct. After we got our food, I noticed the cockroach (don't know if it was the same one on the wall earlier or not) casually walking on our table where all our food was. Now I can't ignore it anymore and told my dad there's a cockroach right next to your plate. We flagged down the owner and told her about it. She was very apologetic and moved us to a different table and offered a discount to our bill. But during the entire time I was hypersensitive and on high alert for the bugs. It really just ruined my appetite and I couldn't find myself enjoying my meal at all.
Went for their lunch on a rainy day and the price was super reasonable. It was around $21ish per person with 6 meat options to choose from (#6-12). The restaurant was pretty clean, and all the veggies were fresh. Honestly, it's one of the cleanest AYCE hot pot spots I've found so far. The staff were also very friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better.
A good option for AYCE hotpot in the Memorial City-Bunker Hill-Little Seoul area with very reasonable prices, especially for lunch! It's a quiet and clean place, and the front still has the Noodle House. Our server was very friendly and helpful, and I believe the manager also routinely came out to check on us (she also seemed friendly). Compared to places in Bellaire/Chinatown, it has less options for sides, but I think the quality makes up for it. My ONE advice: DOUBLE UP ON YOUR MEATS! The portions of "single" meat plates are much smaller than other hotpot places. The pic I've included is when we doubled up on our meat orders.
Returned to visit the shabu AYCE experience and new concept. Everything was very good and they definitely got busy as the morning progressed. Good options from the buffet line. Very nice employees! I got the house broth and my favorite cut of meat from the lunch menu was #7. Clean restaurant and will def be back
Quick service, friendly staff, and $30 AYCE dinner. I do recommend the dinner menu for the additional meats. This place is good for the price although I wished there were more options at the bar such as more veggie options and seafood. Pro tip: at the end of the meal, get some handmade noodles to soak up all that flavor from the broth!!
Kim Shabu is my happiest find of 2024 in Houston. This used to be a soup noodle place and has since been completely remodeled. It now offers - dare I say - the best individual hotpots in Houston. That's a bold claim given we have so many hotpot spots. So what do I base that on? 1. The variety of items. The seafood and veggie+ bar is impressively varied, and with 12 cuts of meat offered for dinner, Kim Shabu gives you permutations and combinations of concoctions between veggies, meats, seafood, carbs, and sauces. Don't skip on the rice cakes and the hand-pulled noodles towards the end. 2. The freshness. This is unbeatable. I don't know how they offer so many items and yet keep them all so fresh. I probably ate a pound of mushrooms and crown daisy each, and don't get me started on the meat. So fresh and so good. Such good quality. 3. The flavors. Both the House and Beef broth are delicious. While my pot tasted like really thick mushroom soup by the end of the meal, the broth was good from the get go. The sauces were also spot on. The avocado sauce was so good and spicy, and I also enjoyed the soy-based House and Ponzu sauces as well as the black sesame sauce. And the peanut sauce. And the ssamjang. I ate a lot of sauces. Service was also prompt. I'm really happy with this find! Edit: Turns out that I really disliked my experience here prior to the remodeling, but definitely go and support this new hotpot gig. The Shabu is fantastic.
This place never fails. Went in January and very recently with family and friends. Our visit in January was with a large party with some being vegan and non vegan. It was a wonderful experience all around. They have plenty of vegan options here and highly recommend for anyone wanting those options. They have no problems answering any and all questions as to what is and isn't vegan. The meats are always fresh, as well as the buffet. Hands on my favorite place to go and always highly recommend. The service is always wonderful. If you are looking to go for lunch and not dinner there options are half of what is offered for dinner but they are still great options.
First time here and had a great experience! It's very clean and well laid out. The service was great and the owners are so sweet. So many options to choose from the food bar. The broth was a bit bland and I couldn't figure out how to spice it up just right but there are a lot of great sauce options. It really is a great price for the quantity and quality of the food. I will definitely be back.
Previously Korean Noodle House, Kim Shabu is a lovely family-owned hot pot joint out in Spring Branch. The clean, minimalist decor as well as the unassuming menus are endearing, but don't let that fool you - among shabu shabu restaurants, it holds its own against more bombastic peers in Chinatown and Katy. Here are my thoughts on our experience: Meats and soups: For dinner, choose from any of the 12 cuts on the list, of which 9 are beef, 2 are pork, and 1 is chicken. Everything we had was fresh and well-portioned; I loved seeing all the beautiful trays hit the table at once, then stacking them up high as we devoured slice after slice of meaty goodness. Most of us ordered either the deeply rich house broth or lightly savory dashi soup, which were also both excellent and complemented the shabu shabu options well. Buffet: You'll find your typical selection of Asian veggies, shellfish/seafood, tofu, mushrooms, and noodles out here. Reflecting the restaurant's Korean roots, you'll also see an extensive banchan station (I wish the kimchi had gotten refilled)! The sauce bar has both prepared mixes and basic essentials for you to create your perfect dip. The dessert and hot food sections were fairly limited, but you're not here to eat too much of that here, are you? Service: Our server was quick, efficient, responsive, and attentive - perhaps more so than at any other hot pot restaurant I've been to! I guess it did help that the place was pretty light when we went late on a Friday night. In short, while it may not have some of the more expansive options that other places do, Kim Shabu more than makes up for it with solid mainstays and excellent, personable service - I wouldn't hesitate to go back if I found myself in the area!
On the corner of a strip mall, this hot pot place isn't huge but can seat parties of two to larger groups (there's a separate room with big tables). Each person gets their own pot and it's one price for AYCE - with discounts for senior citizens (10%) and kids under 4 eating free. Broths are House (chicken, beef, pork), dashi, beef, pork, chicken, miso or veggies. I went with the house but honestly - like with most hot pots the flavors at the end are all muddled. The have a buffet bar with the most neatly stacked and assorted vegetables and items for your hotpot - including kimchis etc. They also have a section for rice and some items that go well with rice . . . and a separate area with fruit and a whole ice cream section. Meats are very very thinly sliced - which means they cook in a matter of seconds. You can get two plates of meat per person (roughly 10 pieces), but you'll likely need to order some more as you go. Staff was so courteous and helpful and very kind. We even got some candy canes since Christmas was just around the corner. This place is definitely a bit of a neighborhood gem.
I liked how everything at the veggies and seafood bar was chopped nicely, and the porridge at the end was great and for only $1! But the broths are not super flavorful (which is probably suitable to Korean people's tastes), and they don't have crab sticks!!! which is big for me. Also the meat is chopped a little too thinly so it falls apart really easily. The staff seemed nice though and everything was very clean.

HOUSTON, TX 77055 / KOREAN-STYLE HOT POT / SAT 07-29-23 / DINNER, Party of 3 +The customer service was excellent. There were only two waiters and the owner-operator working, but they did their best to hustle and make sure all of the tables were taken care of. +The shabu broths had a good umami flavor, and not too overpowering, which we liked. We got the 'house', beef, and pork broths. You can get these broths in house spicy or mala spicy versions, as well. +The restaurant was fairly clean and the self-serving stations were kept clean. +The beef quality was good. +The veggies were fresh and looked thoroughly washed. We had to pick out a few flies, but overall it was edible. As long as there are no roaches or big bugs in the hot pot veggies, it's understandable that a few fruit flies/gnats get missed during the food prep process. +The knife-cut noodles and porridge are a game-changer! Make sure you order both. These two menu options are unique to this shabu shabu establishment. +They utilize Yelp's reservation system. +Something about the flooring of the restaurant I liked, as it was a non-slip texture. The seating/table layout is a little crammed, but it works for the restaurant space. Hopefully, they can expand to other locations! -The hot food bar could use some improvement, to increase the tray turnover and not let the foods sit there the entire night. Maybe build out a separate hot food bar section on either side of the restaurant space? Add some items for kids; e.g., fried mandu, tempura shrimp, etc. -Other hot pot restaurants; i.e., Haidilao, skim the broth scum for you, but you'll have to do it yourself at this one. Just grab a bowl from the buffet bar and defoam with your spoon, it'll just take a few scoops. -No refills on soft drinks. -No loyalty rewards program. Maybe they could add some gamification via customer phone number history? For example: 3rd visit = free soda, 5th visit = free beer, 7th visit = 20% off the entire check, or run a points system where you can redeem for secret menu items (seafood pancake, tempura basket, etc.). As long as the veggie and meat quality stays above par, we will keep coming back. The broths are very clean and refreshing, if you aren't into the traditional Chinese or Japanese broths that may have much more adventurous seasonings and spices. If you like swishing thinly-sliced meats in a piping hot broth and devouring them with some delicious proprietary dipping sauces, this is the place to check out! Make the drive out to Koreatown and give them some Yelp love! read more

Ok I'll just have to first start off with that this place is AMAZING. I'm a huge soupy person and I love hot pot/Shabu even if its 100 degrees in Houston. The ambiance gives off modern home vibes with positive affirmations on the wall so it's a plus. Isaac and the other staff were so attentive and kind which made me and my family felt like we were at a friend's house. First let's talk about the broth. I really enjoy the unique flavors since this is a Korean Shabu place (which I haven't tried or seen in other place in Houston that I know of) compared to the usual Shabu/hot pot places. Def very flavorful broths and not full of msg like some places. Second, they have a good amount of meat selections to choose from. Their sides like vegetables seafood Kim chi were all very fresh and well cleaned which I do appreciate esp in AYCE places people get lazy and don't even take the time to wash and ensure what's put out there is clean/washed. Third, I definitely appreciate the fact that is a family owned business (was previously Korean Noodle House). You can tell they put a lot of passion and effort to hand make the dumplings, Kim chi, and their in house noodle on the menu. Fourth, if you still have room, they have Korean congee (house porridge) which is definitely a must try. It's very hearty and Isaac helped us cook it. (Note: you have to finish the Shabu first because they put the congee bowl in the heater to cook) I never had Korean style congee but it tasted delicious because you take the broth you've been cooking your assortments in piling up the flavors to Jam Packed into the rice. Fifth, my siblings and I really were delighted at the fact there were many assortments of ice cream flavors compared to the usual vanilla/chocolate or the vanilla/strawberry. They had red bean, matcha, coffee, vanilla, chocolate, strawberry. Overall, this place exceeded my expectations in every aspect. I would highly recommend this place as they just opened a week ago so they're still in the process of making some changes. They're currently doing a promo for 15% off if you follow their social media as well. It's a bit of a drive for me but this place is def worth it and I would be more than happy to make the trip out here again! read more

We love love love shabu here!Everything was super fresh, clean and yummy! I love Shabushabu and this is one of the top 3 on my list in Houston! The AYCE factor makes this dinner so worth it with fresh offerings of shaved beef, seafood and all the veggies you can want! The owners are so welcoming and treat you like a guest in their home! they are so nice! They used to be a noddle restaurant but boy am I glad they now serve Shabu! We drove about an hour to come eat here and we will be coming back more often! read more

A group of us drove from League City to try Korean Noodle House, as reviewers said it was authentic and delicious. They are right! We ordered quite a bit of food: potato jeon, ddeokbokki, budae jjigae, bulgogi, jjajangmyeon, and bibim naengmyeon. All the dishes were good, but the highlights were the ddeokbokki and naengmyeon. The ddeokbokki was probably the best thing I ate there--it's the best ddeokbokki I've had in the States. On the other hand, we probably wouldn't order the jjigae or jjajangmyeon again. The jjigae tasted very basic (and it was pricey) and the jjajangmyeon was like an old-style version of the dish (go to Paik's Noodles instead). Lastly, as the other reviewers have noted, their kimchi is amazing. It's fresh, flavorful, and perfectly done. The restaurant was very busy on this particular Saturday night, but the service was pretty prompt. I would come here again if I were in that part of town. read more

Got some korean food cravings so i tried this place out in long point. I'm glad i discovered it! The restaurant is traditional but has options for more fusion dishes. I was surprised they had sushi and rolls! They also give you a pot of kimchi as well. One thing i would suggest is giving more korean side dishes other than kimchi. Anyways, I tried the regular buckwheat cold noodles, vegetable korean pancakes, and spicy sundubu soup. All dishes were good and plates were cleanly eaten. I love a good traditional Korean restaurant! Staff was friendly and service was quick. Will come back! read more
1st time here and food was good. Service was friendly and efficient for 2 person running for the restaurant. It's a bit spicy if the order has the pepper next to it. So if you can't handle the heat, don't order it . If you are in the area , I would recommend to give them a try. read more

Korean noodle house is our to-go place for some good korean food. Their kimchi (free side) is the best I've had. It's freshly prepared every time I come. We always buy their kimchi to bring home . My favorite dish to order is the spicy soft tofu. They also have rice dishes as an alternative to noodles. read more

Best kimchi in houston!! To start off, we were served a little pot of kimchi after getting seated and boy does it pack flavor! It has a perfect balance - not too sour, spicy, or sweet and with the right amount of tenderness. Honestly I would come here just to buy some kimchi. Everything else we ordered was also extremely good. Soups were very flavorful. You can definitely taste the beef bones and the seafood. Service was excellent and we were even given free samples of a new sushi roll they were experimenting with. Overall, I'd say this would be one of my favorite spots for Korean food! Service was terribly slow, at least when we went on a Sunday around 1pm. We walked into the restaurant where we stood at the front of the store for 5min before we were even acknowledged by a worker of our presence. It then took another 5min for them to get us a table. Once we sat down, it took another 3min for them to bring us menus. Lastly, it took 30min for the food to come out after ordering. Good thing I wasn't in a rush to go anywhere. I ordered the spicy seafood noodle soup ($14) which seems like one of their more popular items. It was my first time having jjamppong and it was really good! It came with a good amount of seafood and noodles. It also had a good spice level. The restaurant seems pretty authentic as the workers were all speaking Korean to each other, I just wish the service was a lot faster. read more
In the corner of a big Asian/ Mexican shopping center. Cute little family owned restaurant with friendly staff of about 6 members. Clean and decorated authentically. My first time, I ordered the spicy seafood noodle soup bc it seemed popular on the other reviews. Soup was tasty but not filling. There was 1 fish ball, 2 shrimp and a few muscles. I would have loved bigger zucchini pieces, perhaps few more shrimp and fish balls. But the broth and noodles were yummy. Big bowl, can be shared. I'll definitely be back to try the other soups but I wouldn't get the seafood soup again, especially if I'm really hungry. read more

Was looking for a good place in Houston to get tteokbokki and found this place. They also had Korean army stew (spicy sausage stew on the menu I believe) and I had been dying to try some so this was perfect! The restaurant wasn't as busy as we were expecting but it was a Tuesday so maybe that's why. Service was fine. Overall the food was decent. Definitely recommend the tteokbokki & the stew. We also tried the seafood pancake and the gyoza but I would pass on them honestly. Wish the seafood pancake had more flavor or a sauce to dip it in. But I would definitely come back for the stew again! read more

Kim Shabu is essentially a Korean version of Shabu Zone. Their buffets are very similar, but Kim Shabu's is a bit smaller. They also have a buffet area for some hot Korean dishes. One area that I found lacking was the sauce bar. It was a small selection and I didn't like how all the bottles of sauces were in a tight corner. I also wish they served minced thai chili peppers as that is something I love to add to my hot pot sauce. The meats they serve was good quality. I recommend number 6, the angus Chuck tender. I wish they had more noodle options in their buffet, but I did like their handmade noodles. The broth options they offer are also very similar to Shabu Zone's. I got the miso which was pretty solid. One unique thing about this place though is the house porridge that you can order at the end of your meal. They use your broth to make the porridge and it was a great finale to my meal. The porridge was very comforting and rich. I liked that their kimchi was still the same as the type Korean Noodle House used to serve... I miss KNH so much but I wish the best for Kim Shabu. I thought it was nice that the owner stopped by my table and asked how my meal was! read more

I've been searching for a Shabu place that is closer to the Heights since being 15 minutes away as opposed to 30 minutes is a complete game changer. Kim Shabu did not disappoint!! we went late on a Thursday evening, and as expected, the place was not very busy. However, the bar was still very stocked and service was extremely attentive. All of the ingredients were very fresh and the meat was of high-quality. They also had some fresh handmade noodles which was a very welcome surprise, and I had to go get another. The place was very clean and seemed like they had gone through a recent renovation. Our all in cost came to around $40 per person which in this time for this value can't be beat, this place is definitely getting added to my "can't wait to go back" list. read more

We've been eating at Kim Shabu once a week since we discovered it. It was a change from the previous restaurant that was really good too. The food is excellent, really good quality. Great assortment of beef, veggies, and seafood. My favorite is the Beef Belly. Looks fatty but so good. Also, be sure to get the hand made noodles and porridge at the end. Service is excellent too. They are so nice and we didn't feel rushed at all. Kids loved the ice cream after. read more

4 stars is spot on here - the place has really nice decor, looks very authentic. Food and service are good, but not 5 stars I would say. Went here with 3 friends and we shared the sea food & vegetable pancake appetizer which was really good. Normally in a Korean restaurant I would expect to get Banchan (Korean apps) with the food, but not here. We did get some really good Kimchi however. Our main courses (shrimp fried rice, beef bulgogi, tofu) were pretty good, though not as "authentic" as I have had them at other places. The portions were decent and we had some leftovers. When reheating the latter you could see a bunch of oil in the fried rice, not exactly my preference but I guess you could say it adds flavor. Overall a decent experience. read more

The food and dining experience at Kim Shabu is top notch! Try any of the meats on the menu and you'll be pleasantly surprised with the quality of the slices served. The kimchi is STILL what I would consider the best in Houston (maybe even Texas?) and it's honestly one of my favorite things to eat here and they even use it in their kimchi fried rice! The hand made noodles served at the end of your dining experience to soak up the leftover broth is amazing both in texture and in taste! The atmosphere and ambience is great and renovations done are extremely tasteful and bright/clean. I would give 5 stars for the service alone as the wait staff are very respectful and attentive to whenever you are ready to reload on more meat! If I could rate this Shabu restaurant higher than 5 stars, I would. If you're craving Shabu, don't hesitate to visit! read more

I ordered to go the spicy rice cake/ fish cake and added some bulgogi (beef). It also came with some vermicelli noodles which was nice. Service is good, they are very nice and accommodating (hence the beef added), and it was ready in 15 minutes or so. I will say it is SPICY so be ready for a runny nose. Taste was great too, it's a nice little spot. read more
