Love this quaint restaurant in Decatur. I arrived around 7pm on a Friday night with no reservation. The place was packed but I was able to quickly get seated at the bar. Within 30 minutes or so there were absolutely no seats left either inside or outside so I definitely recommend a reservation! The food was stellar! The menu was exciting and the food was plated beautifully. As each dish arrived, the runner explained what was on the plate and how to eat it. For our appetizer we ordered Salt & Pepper shrimp, caviar & medlins, oysters. We loved that you could order as many or as little oysters as you want. I love horseradish with my oysters. It's doesn't come with it but my server brought out a side for me! We got scallops and trout for our entrees. Both were tasty but quite salty! However our drinks were refreshing and hydrating. What a treat! Since I've been in Atlanta, Kimball House has been on my must-try list. Being a major oyster lover and lover of fine dining, I just couldn't miss out. So when prepping for a recent date night, I knew exactly where I wanted to go. I love that booking a reservation was super easy, but it was a Friday night so of course bookings were slim. We lucked up with a reasonable seating time and were super hyped to enjoy. Well, thanks to traffic, we were cutting it really close to our reservation time and I hate to be late. So I gave them a call and they were so understanding and moved our reservation a bit while guaranteeing our table. When we arrived, it wasn't as busy as I had expected and we were actually seated right away vs. waiting for our new seating time. What a beautiful restaurant! I sat for a moment, taking in our surroundings because I love a dark restaurant that still sometimes shines so bright. It's extremely intimate inside, not overrun with dozens of tables, loud conversations and staff bumping into each other at every turn. No, this was a different vibe and I loved it. Our server was attentive and patient with us as we took our time over our meals. We started with cocktails and a dozen oysters of mixed variety to share and I feel like within a snap, they were on our table. Each oyster was different but all so fresh! We both said that they were some of the best we've had and we eat a lotttt of oysters. We also ordered the Hawaiian rolls, a vegetarian pasta and a steak - every bite was delicious! I think our only minorrr con and bit of confusion was that the pasta dish my bf ordered was such a small portion. Like, for a kid almost lol. We're still both confused about why it was such an insanely small portion but have to make sure we say how absolutely delicious it was lol. Kimball House is a staple in Atlanta. If you have not been here, then make a reservation now! You will not be disappointed with anything here. The service, decor, drinks, and food are top-notch. We love eating inside but sat outside for the first time the other night. So if you want to bring your furbaby or feel more comfortable out, they have heaters and fires all around the patio to keep you warm. I was pleasantly surprised with all the fires and even stood in front of one, so I could smell like a campfire for my way home. When you plan to eat here, make sure you leave plenty of room in your belly so you may eat from all of the sections of the menu. You should also be ready to plan another visit as you will need many to eat all you wish to devour, plus parts of their menu are seasonal, so it changes. We begin all our meals at Kimball House with their excellent bicoastal selection of oysters. It isn't easy to select, but we usually picked a variety from the northwest and northeast. Plus, order the Hawaiian rolls with butter and jelly, one roll per order so get one for everyone, as you won't want to share. This is the first time we have had their chicken skins, and it will not be the last! They were crispy and flavorful. Ok, actually, we begin our meals with one of their fantastic drinks. The drink program at Kimball house is phenomenal, and all you have to do is tell your server or bartender when you like, and they will steer you in the right direction for your pallet. I am a sucker for their French 75, so I get it for at least one of my drinks. The New Tokyo and Rainier were the two my husband enjoyed this evening. Since we had so many of the starter plates that we shared the seafood risotto, which has only been on the menu for a few weeks, and it was delectable. The chef-cooked scallops perfectly, and you only need your spoon or fork to cut them so you can make perfect bites. We ended our evening with the spectacular vanilla creme brûlée. read more

We dined here for my friend's birthday and it didn't disappoint. It was my first time here and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It exceeded my expectations. We started off with an assortment of raw oysters (Pickering Pass, Matheson Wavelength, Mant's Landing, and Island Creek), the Hawaiian rolls, and the snapper crudo. The Mant's Landing and Matheson Wavelength were the table favorites. The snapper crudo was a fresh and delectable bite. The Hawaiian rolls were soft and melted in your mouth. We ordered cocktails and those took awhile to come out, but they were good and crafty. For entrees, we ordered a variety of food, which included: grilled trout, fish stew, and the pork chop. Additionally, we ordered Pommes Macaire. Everyone enjoyed their food. My grilled trout, along with the accompaniments were delicious. To finish the night, we ordered the Strawberry Mille Feuille and Blackberry Eclair. Most of us liked the Strawberry Mille Feuille the best. The food was 5/5; however, the service is where I had to deduct a star due to the slow service. Although, we were engaged in our conversation, we couldn't help but notice the length of time it took to receive certain items. The ambiance was nice and quaint. Kimball House is a classic located in Decatur, right by the train. There is no parking lot, so you'll have to park on the street or pay for parking in a nearby parking garage. I would HIGHLY recommend making a reservation because it can get booked weeks in advance. My favorite part is sitting outside on the patio, enjoying the city of Decatur. We went to dinner to celebrate our birthdays. The location was convenient and we easily found street parking. The restaurant itself was pretty and we liked the decor and ambience. They were slightly crowded for a Sunday night but we were seating immediately. We waited 10 minutes before our server came over. She seemed nice enough but wasn't not super informative. We went over the menu and asked what she recommended and her response was "it depends on what you want". Well, if we knew what we wanted we wouldn't have asked you for your recommendations. So, after some encouragement she listed a few apps and entrees that were popular. We ordered three appetizers that included: pommes macatre, salt and pepper rock shrimp, and French onion soup. The pommes macatre was okay but I wouldn't order it again. The rock shrimp was good and the portion was big and the French onion soup was good and hot. For our entrees we ordered the Bouillabatse and the pork belly. They were out of the scallops and duck breast by 7. My husband enjoyed the Bouillabaste overall, especially; the crispy sourdough slice. He wishes they had included more bread to enjoy with the savory broth. The pork belly was a nice portion and cooked to perfection. It was so tender and moist. It was basically a pork and beans plate. The beans were fine but there was too much. Would have preferred some greens or mash to go with it. Basically, a tender piece of pork belly on top of a mountain of beans. I probably wouldn't order it again. For dessert we ordered the olive oil cake. It was okay and again I wouldn't order it again. The cake was dry and had layers of hard cold chocolate. Also, this is a very casual restaurant. Everyone except us were dressed in leggings, jeans, over sized sweaters, beanies, etc. nothing wrong with that but we just assumed it was a "fancy" restaurant due to the $$$ rating. Even though this restaurant is known for its oysters, the steaks were great and well prepared. Excellent au gratin but I wished there were more than one onion ring on the steak plate. The grilled oysters were delish with a dash of jalapeño. And while the scallops were cooked very well, they could have used a little bit of salt and pepper! Let's get into it. Parking - As all Atlanta places the parking lot is tiny that's attached to the building. Across the street they have a public garage but you have to pay. I was lucky to find street parking by the shops for free !!! Place - I came as a guest to a birthday party but I know she made a reservation. The place seemed busy so I would say make. ReServation before arriving. They had outside seating and inside and bar seating. The decor was super cute! The bar gave huge alchemist vibes !! Drinks - I had the sugar cane club (purple picture short drink ) it was strong but flavorful. The smoky from the mezcal is my favorite! My friends had the Miami fix (pink tall drink). It was fruity and too much ice for me but they loved the ice. Food- We started with the Hawaiian roll. Let's say it's not the same as one in the store. It was huge in size. Comes in threes if super hungry or single. I had a single. Next starter was the blue crab claws. Omg the flavor that was soaked in and on the bottom of the dish was amazing. Sweet yet spicy ! Also that was the most meat on a crab claw in my life. Usually the meat is minimal but not here. My friend had the chicken liver mousse and the baguette and pepper jelly set it out perfectly. I ate for my main the snapper and being an island child I have had tons of snapper and it was fresh and amazing! Very light not over filling , so I added stir fry veggies minus mushrooms and that alone was amazing. The soy the juice I could literally eat it all day. The flavor profile was on point all night ! We had heard great things about the cocktails We got seated promptly at a table indoors, the server brought water, and a few minutes later he took our cocktail orders. So far, so good. Then things went south. The server disappeared for 25 minutes. We flagged him down from across the room and asked him to check on our drinks. Another 10 minutes pass and a lady brings us some half glasses of sparkling wine (on the house) and assures us our cocktails are up next. Finally, after another 10 minutes our cocktails arrive. So it took 45 minutes to get our cocktails from the time we ordered. They said there was no charge for the cocktails but it really put a damper on our overall experience. It was our first time here at Kimball House, and the experience was a letdown. It was quite a busy night, and I understand how hectic it can get during a busy dinner night. We ordered two dozen oysters, and they were delicious. The Baywatch Indigo and Fishers Island were my favorites. The food and drinks took a very long time, and they offered us bread while we waited. When our Ribeye and Filet came out, both dishes were cold, and my filet was rare rather than medium rare per my request. The manager came out and agreed with our complaint and took our food, and came back to our entries after 10 minutes. The ribeye was better, but my filet was still cold. It was nice of them to comp our entrees, but that isn't what we were looking for. We wanted a pleasant dining experience for our first time at a place we'd wanted to try. For the price they were asking the service in terms of food was not good at all. The servers tried their best to cover for the day in the kitchen and bar service. If we do go back, I will definitely update my review of the place because we really want to give this place another try. read more

I started out with a French 75 which paired so so well with the Grilled Oysters ( coated with leek potato-chili oil). absolutely a must. My mom and I were trying to stay classy but also wanted to lick our plates off clean. If you are new to raw oysters, I love how the menu helps you decide what you might like by suggesting what their oysters might taste like. For I got some glacier point oysters bc their note described them as salted melons and buttermilk. They were so good as well as the Hama Hama oysters. We also split one of their homemade Hawaiin rolls which was sooo yummy with the apple preserves and butter. For the entree I decided to go for The pork chop which came with bbq carrots, brussels sprouts, honeycrisp, parsnip. It was cooked to absolute perfection and melted in my mouth. KH is one of my all-time fav restaurants. periodt. We discovered KH on my birthday a few years ago. I had it bookmarked and I decided to make it my bday dinner. It was delightful! So much so that I've rage about it to anyone that wants a recommendation. Any time we find our way anywhere close to Decatur Square, I'm clamoring for KH. Their cocktails are always top notch. The bar snacks/apps are scrumptious. I'm partial to the hawaiian rolls and chicken skins. I've been during their HH for oysters and cocktails. I've gone for celebratory meals. We've taken friends. Made a dinner res for my friend and me on a Friday night (which was wise, as I'm sure it's hard to get seated without a prior reservation here). They have plenty of indoor and outdoor seating - we opted for the patio, and I was appreciative of the fact that every table outside is allotted its own standing heat lamp. Makes a big difference given how chilly the January nights can get! The vibe is very romantic and classy - string lights outside, round bulbous lamps inside. Definitely a good spot for special occasions. We started off with drinks, especially after hearing all the hype about their cocktails. I ordered the chartreuse tonic, which was good (but not necessarily out of this world), and the visual presentation was a bit lacking - not even a little flower garnish? Not a huge deal, but just a missed easy opportunity for some bonus points in my opinion. For food, I asked for three oysters, and one of our waiters Luke (who was absolutely phenomenal in his recommendations and friendly demeanor) chose three for me. Pretty fresh, and served with a champagne vinaigrette in a little dropper bottle - very cool. For my entree, I opted for the halibut, which was not great to be honest. The fish was cooked just fine, but the broth it was served with just wasn't doing it for me - something off with the flavor combinations. My friend got the coq au vin, which was definitely the better choice of the two. It's interesting that you aren't assigned one waiter/waitress, but they all work communally to serve every customer. Surprised I haven't written a review for Kimball House since I go so frequently. This is one of my top 5 favorite restaurants in Atlanta. The cocktails are incredible, the oysters are top notch (order the ones from Maine), and the generally the rest of the menu is fantastic. A great spot to go if you want steakhouse restaurant quality food but want to go seafood forward. My wife and I recently went this weekend so I will focus on that experience. We both started with Neo Tokyo cocktails, which is their standard whiskey sour. It's delicious. We ordered a few rounds of Hawaiian rolls, a dozen Maine oysters, grouper crudo, red cabbage caesar, and bouillabaisse. Everything was divine. Bread, oysters, and crudo were fresh, red cabbage ceasar was an interesting take on the classic salad, and the bouillabaisse is always a great dipping concoction with the right amount of protein. Having spoken with other bartenders around the city, they all recommended the cocktail program at Kimball House. Let me say we were not disappointed. I'm in Atlanta for work and met up with a friend who is a relatively new local. She recommended this spot and boy am i glad she did. From the outside it looks like a quaint neighborhood house. Ergo the name. Inside it's got a very cool vibe with a beautiful bar and cocktail list to match. The Hawaiian rolls with butter and strawberry preserves were so good. We both got the filet. They don't believe in vodka. Or think it's a subpar alcohol. That was a bummer but whatever the heck i ordered with rum was excellent so it's not keeping me from returning.
