I do not hit snooze, get dressed, grab my book, and drive to the small diner on the corner. You'd miss it if you didn't look. Open the door to welcome encased in a wave of maple syrup thrilling my nose, my tummy responds with a song, gurgling loudly. I find my seat among coffee sipping men. Pull out my current read, leaving my phone abandoned in my purse. The room is white noise of hushed voices, occasional high-pitched laughter makes me smile. A glass of ice tea, no lemon, appears without being asked. I am delightfully ignored until I need a refill. I become preoccupied devouring every word when the waitress asks if I want my usual. An omelet, filled full of cheddar cheese thickly tucked inside with mouth - watering ham, savory spinach, and tomato's hotter than the sun. Golden hash browns snuggle this colorful display on a dish I can barely see. Two buttery slices of wheat toast balance on a tiny pink scalloped plate. The heat creates almost invisible swirls of steam escaping gooey goodness melted on fluffy eggs tempting me to scorch a tongue almost too eager. I halt myself and dive back into a story I cannot put down. I am in no rush. Each lushes bite melts in my mouth, the oozing golden glory creating long lines from plate to fork to mouth, breaking off onto my chin and I feel like laughing as I wipe it away. I use my fingers, when no one is looking, picking up a piece of ham, covered with chewy delight, I try to keep the string from fracturing until I can wrap it around my finger. Biting my bottom lip each time as I twist open a bottle of Cholula to give hash browns -- a kick. I am torn between were my full attention should be. Do I close the book? Focus on the meal? It is too good. I would never let this decadent delight get cold. No longer sitting elbow to elbow, I outlast everyone at the counter. Enjoy solitude, the quite of forks and spoons being restocked. I sit with my thoughts. I can stay as long as I want. Glance up to a never-ending glass. I do not have to clean up, after. This place, a treat, a gift of time. This place was mediocre at best. I got the chirizo/egg plate with potatoes. The potatoes were literally boiled with zero seasoning. I asked the waitress if they're supposed to come like that and she flat out told me they were not boiled but cooked in the pan and seasoned. A picture below are the potatoes with salt and pepper that I put on it. The pancakes were dry, chirizo burnt, and my friends omelette had zero seasoning. TLDR: Long time Orange Circle customer had a terrible takeout service experience and won't be back. I've eaten at the Orange Circle location numerous times, and had high hopes for the north OC branch. Ordered takeout from the web site, prepaid a 20% tip (support the service personnel!), and went to pick it up. It wasn't clear where I was supposed to go inside the restaurant, so I tried to get someone's attention, but was ignored. No one even asked me if I wanted to be seated or added to a waiting list for a table. I looked around and saw what might be a bagged to-go order at a counter, so walked around to it. The two people there ignored me, wiping down counters and handling other side work. After a few minutes of this, I had to directly speak to someone and announce that I thought the bag was my online order, giving my name. She looked at the bag and handed it over, barely acknowledging me. When I got back to where I was eating, I realized they hadn't packed utensils. If the issue was too many people in the restaurant for the number of employees, I blame management for not handling things correctly. Maybe it was just bad service, but either way, I'd suggest this is a place to avoid. read more

This charming throwback diner is reminiscent of the restaurants of the 1950s, with amiable waitresses and delicious freshly-cooked food. I can't understand why anyone would give this quaint little place 1 or 2 stars. The decor is so detailed and perfect, thoughtfully planned out to put a smile on your face. I love businesses with a good story, and according to the back of the menu, the owner is a former server who has suffered tremendous health issues and still become successful! The food is very fresh and the service is excellent. The create-your-own-omelette option was fantastic, my three ingredient choices including ham, red peppers, and pepper jack cheese. Yummy!!! The biscuits were very good, but the gravy was sensational (and I'm not even a gravy person). It was the perfect balance of creamy and peppery flavor with hearty chunks of sausage. Such good gravy so far away from The South! They have fresh fruit and really good house-made sausage too! I would probably stay away from the hash browns. The interior was okay, but the outside was tough instead of crispy, and there is definitely a difference. The three-woman wait staff was wonderful! The red head was all business, no small talk, and I'm totally okay with that because they're very busy! The blonde was very nice, and the brunette was just downright adorable! I live in walking distance and decided to finally come here. I probably won't ever come back for sit down service. I would only recommend for food pick up. The service was bad. I have only left maybe 3 bad reviews on Yelp ever. I give them 4 stars for food but the service was lacking. Literally our server came back at the end of our meal with our check and asked if we wanted refills. Another server checked on us after we received our food, not our actual server. So make sure you get everything you want when you order. And my husband wasn't sure what he wanted as a side and asked for suggestion. Our server said "Well what do you want?" as a reply. Lol I worked in customer service for 5 years, and have never said that even to a rude customer. Kind of glad our server never came to check pn us. She was pretty unpleasant and looked angry the whole time. Also slammed my coffee on the table initially lol. Love this place! Make it a point to come here every couple of months. The portions are huge and the food is always good. My favorite is doing the create your own omelet, and then getting crispy potatoes and toast on the side. Service isn't always the friendliest, but the food usually comes out pretty quickly. Prices are good for the portion sizes. Worth a try, for sure. They also have other locations that I've seen but haven't been to. read more

By far, one of my favorite breakfast places to eat at in the North OC! I know they have multiple locations scattered throughout the region, but I've only ever been to this one. There's always a pretty long waiting list, so expect to wait awhile, as with any good restaurant. They always offer seasonal pancakes, based on the holidays. I've tried their pumpkin pancakes around Halloween and they were really good - light, fluffy and thinner than most places. However, my favorite dish to get here is their classic breakfast, which includes everything I could ever want in an all-American breakfast! It comes with two eggs any way you want it, bacon or sausage, hash browns, and a side of toast! The sausage is super oily, savory and GOOD. I'm blown away by the hash browns, considering most breakfast joints only offer country potatoes these days, which simply aren't the same. Kimmie's has THE best hash browns I've ever had!!! They're unbelievably crispy and perfectly shredded, so you get exquisite mouthfuls of carby goodness. The toast comes buttered already, which is always a bonus...since butter right out of the fridge is hard to spread! I also really like their coffee, which they're really good about refilling frequently. They have tons of mini International Delight creamers on every table, so you can really load up on hazelnut or vanilla creamer, depending on how sweet you take your coffee. Last time I came here, they also had caramel macchiato flavored creamer, which was super delicious! Service still leaves much to be desired, as the waitresses almost seem to try to ignore the patrons...but the food is awesome!
