I stopped by The Original Pancake House for a quick breakfast. It was pretty packed around 11:30am on Good Friday. They close at 1pm seven days a week, so don't arrive too late. I was seated quickly, and my server Missy greeted me shortly thereafter. I already knew what I wanted so I didn't need to see a menu. I ordered the Dutch Baby ($16.50) and a side of bacon ($8). The bacon arrived after only about five minutes, and the pancake only took a few minutes longer. The Dutch Baby comes with a generous serving of lemon wedges and a bowl of powdered sugar. I drench it with lemon and top it with a little bit of powdered sugar, and it's so good. I love the crisp edges, and it is pretty filling. The bacon is a little thicker than at most places, and the four slices almost cover the entire small plate. Next time, I would ask for it to be cooked a little more to give some more crisp. It was very good though, and not greasy at all. Missy was very friendly and checked on me often. If you pay the bill using cash, there is a small discount. read more

The bacon is thick and smokey. Pancakes are soft and fluffy. The service was fairly quick for a full house. The place was nice and clean.

I came here for breakfast with high hopes, but unfortunately, the experience fell short of expectations. The food was mediocre, and the atmosphere felt more like a cafeteria than a restaurant. When I asked for a to-go box for my leftovers, I was given two plates held together with a rubber band, which felt unprofessional and inconvenient. Overall, I was disappointed with my visit and wouldn't recommend this place. I'd pass on this one. read more

I actually came into today looking for some pancakes with either interesting fruit toppings or a good fruit-flavored syrup. A long time ago I was introduced to the blueberry syrup at IHOP by Tara. She used to love doing her syrup in layers--top pancake got blueberry, middle got maple, and the bottom got the great mix of the leftover mix of the two. So when I went in today I was actually pms bing to get the blueberry stack. Instead, I opted for the sourdough stack. I love sourdough for sandwiches and burgers, and I love it for toast at breakfast. I thought it would make for a great taste with the sweetness. And, boy, did it ever. The bites I had of the pancakes were superb to the point I want all future pancakes to be sourdough. I honestly don't know why I didn't start searching out sourdough pancakes at breakfast joints earlier. The service here was good. My waitress was Jenny-on-the-spot with the coffee refills and other requests. She had a pleasant demeanor and never seemed put upon when I stopped her. The ambience was a little sparse as it's just one giant dining area with no partitions or walls breaking up the room to speak of. But, otherwise, the environment was good. It was quiet being first thing in the morning and I enjoyed that. Also, the decor and palette of the room was kind of soothing. Review 89/365 Day Challenge Came here for brunch at 11:35 a.m. after my besties daughter's middle school graduation. It was a really busy morning indeed since almost everyone who attended the graduation Ceremony came here too to have brunch/lunch. I signed in with the associate and asked about how long was the wait since it was full house inside and looks like a long wait list. Associate told mee about half an hour. That i don't mind since it looks like it's capable to have our lunch n be back in time to grab my kids from after school pick up at 2:15 p.m. it wasn't just for myself but other guests within our group also had younger kids also still on school for last day before summer starts. I checked in since it was past that 30 mins, to see our status. Seems like it's going to be actually another half n hour, so total 1 hour wait. This made me upset, if i was informed when i arrived when writing down our name on the waiting list that it would've been estimated 1 hour wait time. It would've helped me decide if our group was ok to wait an hour or go somewhere else. When you've already wasted half n hour. We were already stuck feeling our time was invested here waiting. So we ended up staying. We were seated within an hour total of waiting. After that everything went smoothly. What we ordered ~ Western Omelette was really cheesy ok topped and filled with ham, bell pepper & diced onions. Definitely recommended. ~ Swedish pancakes are really yum & chewy. It's like a hybrid between a crepe & regular pancake. The lingonberries were yum topped. Also highly recommend this pancake since i love Crepes. It's a cute pancake shop. This place is super happening for a Sunday morning. They won't seat you unless all of your party is there when there is a waitlist. Our service was prompt once seated but all the food was on the bland side. I had to pretty much use their cholula sauce for every bite. The people who work here are kind, friendly, and dedicated. If I was just writing a review of the service, it would be a 5 star review. I enjoyed my pancakes. The problem here is the ambiance. One big, noisy room. No love of customers or care for customer comfort comes through at all. The seats are terribly uncomfortable. The floors look awful. You walk in to a wall with white paint splatters. The company vibe that comes through is one that values profits over family time in a warm, friendly environment. The ambiance doesn't match the service or food at all. I'd come here much more often there were soft chairs and booths with a nice floor. It's a shame because its unlike the Pancake House vibe I grew up with at their Anaheim location (which not coincidentally has a much better overall Yelp rating). read more

This place gets pretty busy on the weekend during the mornings and they don't take reservations. Bacon. A good diner must have good bacon period. The bacon here was below average. It was thick cut and the fat wasn't totally cooked/rendered so It was soft, chewey, and soggy. See my picture attached and look at that chewey spider-web like texture of the bacon. Bacon fat shouldn't be stretchy like that. Maybe you just have to ask for extra crispy bacon? I don't know. My bacon was not very crispy. The menu looks very delicious with many unique pancake offerings that many other diners do not have. So many things on the menu looked good to me but I settled with the Dutch baby. It came out very small and it was simple for a $14 pancake. Fairly over priced to my standard. It also comes with lemon and a ton of powdered sugar on the side. Decided to come here after getting lab work done and ordered the two eggs and four pancakes. The pancakes were extremely bland. Not sure what happened to the quality--Original Pancake House used to be really good, but now it's just sad and flavorless. The syrup is usually served warm but came out cold. The eggs were fine--you can't really mess that up. My server was very friendly and attentive, consistently checking in and offering refills. The front desk/cashier seemed like she hated her life but was still polite. The bill was around $18, and $21 with tip. The price simply doesn't justify the quality of the food. However, in the past I have had the Dutch Baby which is great as a specialty. I do agree with some of the other reviews that mention not a lot of "from scratch or homemade" jams, whip cream, toppings, etc. But overall our order was correct, the food was tasty, and the service was friendly. We took it home this time, but ambiance in the place really isn't anything special, very open with quite a bit of seating, and bathrooms have always been clean. There were only 3 tables being serviced and the staff would not seat us with small dogs because they did not have enough staff and stated service dogs only. Food and coffee were phenomenal. - I do wish they had more platter options similar to other diners, i.e. eggs, bacon & pancake together versus just an order of pancakes or a waffle and having to order additional sides. The prices are on the high side. However, the portions are huge and somewhat make up for this. The service was pleasant and quick with an old home-style ambiance within a business strip center. I've been to the TOPH in Orange and when I saw they opened another location here in Placentia, I was excited because it hopefully spreads out customers so not everyone goes lining up to one location haha. Welp, both locations are still equally busy with customers lining up for homestyle pancakes, large waffles, and creative breakfast items that will satisfy everyone's tastebuds. I ordered for my family of 9 so I got to try something from each of the categories except crepes. My favorite is still the large apple pancake. Everything else was good but not as extraordinary. It's best to dine in so you can eat pancakes and waffles while they're fresh out of the griddle, but ordering for take out is an option too. read more

The most bizarre breakfast experience of my life. I sat in the gutted country styled dining area in a chair that was caving in on itself. The ambiance is weird because the restaurant itself is located in a brand new complex. $15 for 3 pancakes, with a side of what tastes like Aunt Jemimah's artificial syrup. The flapjacks themselves were alright, but not worth the pricetag. I witnessed 3 occasions where servers where cooking eggs and biscuits & gravy in a microwave, and even then, the person behind me sent them back saying they were too cold. I'm honestly just confused by the whole experience. Was even more confused when asking for a to go box, I recieve 2 paper plates held intact by a rubber band, to which I got a cardboard/paper cut trying to open it. Is this what they mean by Original? What I ordered: -Bacon & Eggs with pancakes: Simple breakfast. Bacon was on the chewier, stringier side which I wasn't a fan of. Eggs were eggs, can't really go wrong with that. 3/5 The pancakes were what really stood out to me. I'm not a pancake girlie but these were SO GOOD! The pancakes are consistent in taste and quality with the Anaheim location. They're fluffy and amazing with butter and syrup (syrup isn't very viscous and isn't too sweet so it compliments the pancake well). Pancakes are a must when you eat here, I mean it is called The Original Pancake House for a reason. 5/5 -Homestyle potatoes: My cousin got this as her side and they were actually really good! Pretty tasty for just plain potatoes without the bell peppers and onions. A lot of the potato chunks were very burnt on one side, like black, so I'm docking a star. 4/5 Overall, this place is really good! This chain is definitely my favorite place to get pancakes, but I will say I think that I like the Anaheim one better. I just feel like I enjoyed my food way more there and they also serve hash browns at that one. Prices are pretty high but it's worth it for the portions. This is gonna be one of the most disappointed experiences I've ever had at any type of restaurant The name original pancake house has a deep heritage and it's been around for decades. It means universally that has a certain level of quality and raw made fresh ingredients that you come to expect no matter what location you walk into. Well, that was not the case here there was no real dairy creamer available The whip cream was out of a can. The toast wasn't even buttered, and I don't even know what kind of butter they're using. Jams and jellies were just Smuckers. Nothing made in-house or fresh, which is what every single original pancake house I've ever been to in my entire Life uses and I've been coming over 40 years. To say I was shocked and disturbed his kind of understatement and I don't understand how anyone at any point would think this would be acceptable carrying that name it kind of be like walking into a Nike store and having them sell Payless shoe I feel that it should be illegal and it seems like pure deception. There's no way reflects the staff that servicing, but it's whoever is in management or owners that are making tremendously horrible decisions to devalue a high-quality brand and they should be held accountable by all the other owners of original houses across the country Anyhow, that's my two cents. I would avoid this location if you're looking to get the original pancake House experience. Our breakfast was delicious! Didn't know what a baked omelette was... now we know and enjoyed it thoroughly would have enjoyed it even more if it came with some kind of potatoes instead of pancakes. Not sure there was an option. We didn't eat the pancakes that came with. But... Wondering if there is a method for servers to know to refill coffee with caffeinated vs de caffeinated coffee. We ordered de caffeinated coffee had a couple of refills thinking the server was refilling with de caffeinated coffee, however after talking outside of restaurant with a friend for a while my husband's arms and hands were shaking for no apparent reason. We then realized that the server must have refilled with caffeinated coffee because that is how caffeine affects him. Maybe Different cups or doily under decaffeinated coffee? OPH is a Placentia favorite. They don't just excel in the pancake arena, but other items become your favorites as well. My go-to pancake is the Dutch Baby. Squeezing the fresh lemons on top and sprinkling them with the powdered sugar is the perfect addition. Their bacon is sooo good! I prefer to dip it in a side of syrup. Egg lover? Thank me later and choose the Chorizo Scramble. Legit, that breakfast can be 3 decent meals if you don't mind leftovers. Staff are fast, friendly, and have been there awhile.
