Wow, I really enjoyed my dinner here! I love it when I'm surprised, I went here with no idea how it was gonna be...didn't even look up yelp reviews or nothing! Lol Me and a friend popped in last minute in our search for something good for dinner. Walking in it was nicer then I expected, big and open and right away they had a kids area with different coloring sheets and crayons, love and appreciate this as a parent! We didn't get a grill table as we had kids with us, but they are available. We got the mandu which is Korean dumplings, fried they were tasty. Next came the Banchan- an assortment of small veggie dishes, mostly pickled or fermented, they were so good! We loved trying all of them and picking our favorites! The bean sprouts mixed with sesame oil was probably my fav! We both ordered I got the Dak Bugogi- boneless skinless chicken thigh marinated in a sweet/savory sauce served steaming with veggies...it was delicious!! I would definitely get this again! My friend got the Bulgogi pieces of beef in the same sweet sauce with veggies both served with a side of white rice! Walked in to the restaurant with my family and ordered hot pot, dumplings and chicken bulgolgi, we received our food from a man with a dark complexion and left, I asked the manager for alcohol and she kept trying to keep me from buying a drink. After all of that we started eating our food and halfway through we found a hair in the soup, none of our party had that type of hair, we alerted the manager and they came back to our table and tried to take our hair out and was very rude to us. She didn't offer any discount to the order or say sorry. After we received the check and they charged us an extra 21 dollars on top of the bill and we went up to the front to get it taken off and they started arguing with us and getting in our faces. When walking in the seating was fast and it was not that busy. Got down and order food. I feel like the price is too much for a small bowl, given that bulgogi is 24$. That too much for just some rice, grill beef and little vegetable. The season was strong in it, where I had to drink at least 2 cup of water. The small dish portion was good. I notice that waiter took a long time to get what we needed or hasn't checked up with us. I really did want their shaved ice cream unfortunately did not have the time to wait for him to come back. I've been wanting to try Kim's and I finally made it over here! I love all kinds of Korean food! I was between jobs so I had to get a to go order and I figured the Japchae would travel the best. I ordered the large at their recommendation so I would have plenty for left overs! It was in mid afternoon and it was quiet, the employees were very polite and friendly. I didn't get any banchan with my order and I was a little disappointed in that, so next time I know to ask specifically for side dishes if I'm getting it to go. I got stuck on the 295 on the way out and I was starving and couldn't wait any longer, so I started eating in the car. The Japchae was delicious! Great portion size for the price, too. The people here go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and like a part of the family. Everything we had has good quality and tasty. We had a half day at the beach and my bf was craving Korean bbq. Found this place on Yelp so we decided to try it out. The place was big and clean but totally empty. We were the only people there. We sat and ordered a Korean beer while we looked up the menu via QR code. We were in shock at the prices. Galbi was $30.99! That's even more expensive than in San Francisco where the rent is probably more than double here! And I have never ever been to a Korean restaurant that charges $13.99 for ban Chan! And $1.29 refill PER dish of ban Chan. We werent feeling this place so we decide to pay for our beer (which was $8.49!) and head over to Sam Won, where the prices were very reasonable. What a fun night with friends! Once a month our foodie group picks a new spot to try. This month was my pick, so off to Kim's a Korean BBQ we go. We had no idea what to order, so Mama Kim helped us out by serving us a family style dinner. We started off with dumplings and calamari. Delicious! Then the main attractions started arriving. After seeing kim's korean BBQ advertising on Facebook and has been opened for several months now and I finally had the time to check it out on my birthday. When I first walked in, it looks like a nice open concept with the bar in the front entrance, which looks pretty nice. The inside is a typical korean/Chinese restaurant design, noting too special about. There was no wait for us on a Saturday afternoon, which was surprising. After being seated, our waiter greeted us, he seems nice and he also offered us an organic baby food pouch, then wiped off the highchair for us so our baby could sit in it. I thought that was very thoughtful of him so this place is pretty kids friendly. Hubby ordered the Bulgogi and I got the seafood pancake (Haemul Paejeon). I like how crispy the pancake was and the bulgogi was delicious as well. The side dishes were refreshing and free refills, except for the kimchi. Overall, it was pleasant dining experience. Our waiter was attentive and Mrs. Kim came by to say hello as well, so we felt pretty welcomed. Prices were reasonable, I would recommend this place and definitely will be back! read more

Food: 4 Service: 3 Standard operating procedures: 1 Restaurant replaced Cedar River seafood and no changes were made to the interior. Thankfully Cedar River did some upgrades when they replaced another restaurant so if you ever ate there, you know what the interior looks like. Food was very good. Bulgogi was well marinated and prepared - no table grills so it's all prepared in the kitchen. The seafood ramen came with a whole blue crab, 3 or 4 mussels, 1 clam, 1 shrimp, and maybe 2 ounces of octopus. The broth was hearty and had great seafood flavors and the ramen was plentiful. Service was friendly and many folks came to the table from our waitress to the host to another waiter to Kim herself. They were attentive and helpful but......and I know they've only been opened for 10 days.......here is where it gets shaky. If there are 35 tables in the restaurant, maybe 6 were occupied so it wasn't busy but it's only their 2nd Monday ever so I get it. Our waitress who again was friendly didn't seem to have much training at all. Issues: The bulgogi came out on a cast iron serving dish and the rice was provided in a small square bowl. As we both had a bowl of ramen each we informed the waitress we would be sharing the bulgogi as we wanted to try it. We had been provided a small appetizer sized plate for the included side dish standards (kimchi, eggplant, bean sprouts, etc. - 6 total). We asked for a plate so we could eat our bulgogi and rice and she brought us each another appetizer plate which is not what we wanted. This is a training issue and a lack of operating standards. Seafood ramen served with a whole blue crab - no crab crackers provided. We weren't asked and they never came. Given the ramen had shrimp that needed to be peeled, mussels and clams that needed to be shelled, we should have been provided more than one napkin as well as some kind of "trash" bowl. We used the bowls with the sides for our trash. The table never got cleaned as the meal progressed as we ended up with 6 glasses on the table and there were only 2 of us. Are we doing refills or bringing new glasses for more beverages? With 4 water glasses the table was too crowded for two of us and we were at a table for 4. Had there been 4 of us, would we have had 12 glasses on the table? To be honest I probably jumped the gun again on trying a place out in the first 60 days. Usually a place is hyped up and they are so full they can't keep up. The sign out front says grand opening but I would call it more of a soft opening. They need to do more of a blitz with advertising and social media to get real traffic moving in. It's like a chicken and egg situation - they can't get better without traffic but right now they really couldn't handle the traffic given the lack of defined procedures. Again the food was good so I hope they make it. We shall see in a few months if they can get these kinks worked out. This place is tucked away in 1 of the 478 strip malls on San Jose Blvd., so it's pretty easy to not notice. I learned about it from somebody else's Yelp review - I had not noticed it was the in the 6 years I've lived here. The owner and his wife (or the owner and her husband - I don't know their family dynamics) were working as host, bartender, and waiter/waitress. I ordered Ojimgeo Twigim (Korean style fried squid) and Sam Gyeob Sal Gui (grilled pork belly). First out came the banchan - 10 small dishes holding bite-sized portions of items of various flavors and textures. The kimchee was really tasty with a nice sour flavor. There were a couple spicy cucumber dishes that were really nice. I didn't care for the seaweed, but that's just my own preference. The squid was nice and crispy, but not seasoned very well and was really tough to chew. The sauce it's served with made up for most of the seasoning deficiencies, but not the toughness. The pork belly worried me when it came out - at first glance it looked like pieces of solid fat (sometimes pork belly can be off-puttingly fatty if it's a bad cut or the kitchen doesn't render it correctly). Thankfully I was mistaken. This was grilled perfectly and nicely meaty. Again, it wasn't seasoned much, but it was served with a salty oil that took care of that issue. The hostess brought out another plate of banchan, which looked and tasted a bit like mango, but had a texture like sliced daikon, and instructed me to eat it with the pork. I did not ask to clarify what it was - but she was right; it went nicely with the pork, rice, and oil. All in all, a solid experience. It's a very good entry-level Korean restaurant. read more

Food: Delicious. My go-to when eating Korean is almost always bulgogi but this time I opted for japchae (noodles/vegetables), a spicy squid vegetable dish, a fried tofu-vegetable dish. The waitress was very friendly but I would recommend they (1) instruct staff to write down the order and (2) make sure they check-in on the guests a few minutes after the food is served in case of any additional needs. We were a party of 2 with 3 dishes ordered. We ordered a vegetable-tofu dish and received a different tofu dish with MEAT. It took us a while to get the waitress's attention about the order. The meat dish was still really good but not what we originally wanted. Thankfully, the owner was very quick to correct the issue and prepared the original order right away which was fried tofu & vegetables. It was tasty - think of the agedashi (fried tofu appetizer) that you would order at a Japanese restaurant but as a full-entree size with so much MORE flavor. It was so good. I stopped here for my korean fix while away from home. Ordered kalbi and tofu soup. Kalbi was little sweet but still good. However tofu soup was just okay. They give you with the egg already in the bowl instead of giving you separately and customer can put in when they want. In the best way possible, Shamefully, this is my first time trying Korean food ever and I'm never going to make the mistake of keeping this delicious cuisine out of my life ever again. We over-ambitiously decided to sit at a table with a grill in the center, but then quickly realized we were in way over our heads. Not only did we not know what to order (because everything sounded really good and we couldn't decided), but also we had no idea how the grill worked. Not to fear, Mama Kim came to our rescue. She asked if any of had any food allergies which we all responded with a profound no. She took all of our menus and kindly stated, "Don't worry, I take care of you." To be completely honest I'm not sure exactly what she served us besides knowing there was a shrimp dish, a chicken dish, a pork dish, a beef fried rice dish, and an egg and potato noodles dish. What I do know is that it was all really good and the worst part of the evening was when my stomach couldn't fit anymore of the food into it. Mama Kim told us we had to try Soju for the perfect finish to the meal. She grabs a beer looking bottle, which we're told is a Grapefruit flavored Korean Vodka and proceeds to open it with spizzaz involving elbows and splashes. Let me say, whoever caused Kim's to drop below 5 stars is a fool. I've never had Korean BBQ before today. We went in and got the dumplings and some noodles as an appetizer. (The dumplings were absolutely stupendous, and worth it completely). Then based on the recommendation of Kim (?) we got the 1,5,6, and 11. I have no real clue as to what anything was called. Let me tell you, every single item was phenomenal. I personally DESPISE mushrooms, and Kim (?) insisted that the mushrooms in one of the dishes were not like most mushrooms. Despite loathing the concept of mushrooms, they were not bad (she actually picked up my chop sticks and fed them to me). It was a little pricey but worth every single penny. Kim is so sweet and very welcoming to her guests! I got the bibimbap which comes in the hot stone pot. I usually let my rice sit at the bottom to make the rice crispy. It didn't get too crispy. I also ordered it as extra spicy but I think that part was left out. A little bit on the pricey side as well, in comparison to other restaurants I've been to. Nonetheless, the food was delicious! Quick tasty lunch full of carbs but so worth it. I am a big fan of Korean food so Kim's was a must try for me. I went for lunch for a little more budget friendly meal. They offer lunch box meals with a few meat options. I went with the spicy pork box served with steamed rice, japchae and pan fried dumplings. The spicy pork was the perfect ampunt of heat (I love spice) for me and tossed with sauteed onions. And the japchae is always one of my favorites and I could have ate a whole bowl. This is my second time trying Korean bbq and I must say this place was really nice!! My server was Richard he was so nice fun cool guy who knew the menu front and back and gave really good recommendations! The restaurant was nice it's good if you are going by yourself and it's def a good time for a group of friends or family. You also have the option to cook the meat yourself but I didn't opt for that. The decor was nice and the restaurant was clean and it smelled really good from the kitchen!!! I ordered the Bulgogi which I thought for the price of the dish all the pickles sides and a bowl of rice was pretty decent even though I will add it would be nice if it came with more rice. The meat was nicely flavored I will also add it was not salty like what you get with most Asian goods it was mildly flavored but you could still enjoy the natural flavor and juices of the meat! All the pickled sides I thought where pretty amazing and the rice was steamed perfectly not under or over cooked!! Tonight I had the best dinner in a very long time. Walking in, I could tell it was going to be an awesome meal, as it was ran by a Korean couple. I did three tours in Korea with the Army, and I absolutely love the people of Korea, the culture, and of course, the food. It was like I had been transported to one of my happy places when mama Kim told me that I should get the pan seared mando, because fried is bad for me. It's that attitude, that I love so much. When you eat there, you are treated like family, and that's the way most, if not all Koreans are. I ordered the Bulgogi and (pan seared) mando, and was not disappointed. Coming back from Green Cove Springs we decided to have a late lunch/early dinner somewhere we hadn't been before. I searched the area on the Yelp app and found this spot that I had bookmarked, probably because one of my Yelp friends recommended it. Sure, why not give them a try. The place was not busy at all with just a few cars in the parking lot. Walking in and being seated near the front entrance, I was really surprised by all the wood paneling and booths. It reminded me of a buffet place. No matter, with TVs showing K-Pop my boyfriend and I reviewed the menu. He really wanted the pork belly but since I didn't he didn't want to pay $39.98 since the minimum was 2 servings at $19.99. He saw a photo of fried octopus on this Yelp business page and tried to order that but our server politely said they don't have fried squid. He was a little disappointed since the photo was only 8 months old. I told him it was probably something special for a customer. He chose the appetizer of DDeobokki, stir fried rice cakes, boiled egg, and fish cakes in a spicy red pepper sauce. That was really good but the red sauce will sneak up on you later. He ordered the Dubu Kimchi, which is big pieces of tofu surrounding a generous portion of spicy pork with kimchi and veggies. He still had his heart set on something porky. I tried a bit of his and it's the same pepper sauce as was in the app. He really enjoyed it as his stamp of approval was saying "Ole Mah Gawd" more than once. I ordered the Ojingeo Dol Sot Bibimbap, warmed white rice with spicy squid (same sauce as before) and veggies in a hot stone pot. I had to get it for the squid which turned out to be calamari rings and squid pieces. Works for me. I forgot several times about the rule of eating bibimbap, DON'T EAT FROM THE SIDES OR BOTTOM OF THE POT YET! Had to relearn that lesson the hard way but the food was so good I didn't focus. One of the best Korean BBQ places I've eaten at in my entire life. Very friendly staff and I loved the genuine korean atmosphere. I could tell the food was going to be delicious from the beginning. We ordered the fried scallion korean pancake, and it was cooked perfectly. Very crunchy and flavorful. We then ordered the galbisal and sam gyup sal (see pictures for reference). The galbisal was debatably the best galbi and I've ever eaten. Meat was so tender and the marinade was perfect. Sweet and savory. The samgyup sal had very nice portions and high quality meat too. The kimchi bokkeumbap was full of flavor as well. The portions here were phenomenal, and we luckily had left overs to enjoy at home. 10/10 recommend this restaurant for korean BBQ. I dont live in jacksonville but I would eat here weekly or every other week if I did!! read more
