Hi-ya! I've been here with coworkers a couple of times and the this eatery has been here for a very long time. Coworkers have had the pho and I've had the grilled pork "banmi" each time. The banmi has been great every time. The pork cooked well and tasty and the vegetables fresh. The bread on par with other Vietnamese sandwich places, but what stands out is the size. It's much larger then other places and I get stuffed from just one. I've only done take out and been here only during the COVID pandemic, but they maintain good social distancing (a bunch of tables even separate you from the staff and they hand you receipt and take payments using a basket to minimize proximity. I am very ok with these precautions and am satisfied with the sandwiches. I have never heard any complaints from coworkers, but we have always taken it to go and back to our offices. Anyway they do a good job being pandemic responsible and the food is good. I love Kim's! It's one of the best Pho places I've had and it's across the street from my work. It's a hole in the wall and gets very busy during lunch, but it is worth it. Staff is always super friendly and the food comes out quickly! They have more seating in the back past the kitchen, but they do keep on eye on tables to see how long you've been there once it starts getting super crowded. They are very good about making sure you have a place to sit if the place is crowded and you wish to stay which I like. They serve beef and chicken Pho, Banh Mi, Eggrolls and a few different rice and noodle dishes! They also just recently added Vietnamese Iced Coffee and Spring Rolls which are tasty! After staying in a hotel for a week, I was craving Vietnamese food and Kim's was the closest to my hotel. I forgot to check the location pictures only because I had my toddler with me and the restaurant was very small. Kim's Vietnamese is more of a to go spot. It's not very baby friendly as they didn't have high chairs. I had to just feed my son in his stroller. You order at the cashier desk and then sit down, if you're dining in. For the most part, many people ordered to go. The menu is also very limited since there's only one person taking orders and bringing the food out. I ordered the pho bowl and my husband got a chicken rice plate. The pho was ok. It was a large bowl that came with 3 types of meat. It's supposed to have been a beef broth but it tasted more like a chicken broth with hints of ginger and slightly sweet. It was decent and got the job done but wasn't what I was expecting either. They were very generous with the onions and green onions though. And the broth tasted clean so I didn't feel tired or sluggish afterwards. I didn't try the rice plate since my husband said the nuoc mam sauce was a bit spicy. Overall, I thought it was just ok. It's probably much better as a to go to spot versus a dine in spot. I've been back in Sacramento for over a year now, living in midtown, and Kim's is hands down one the favorite go-to's for lunch during the week. My partner first discovered it and I'm absolutely obsessed with their bbq chicken bahn mi! It's a good-sized bahn mi, so much so that I'll be satisfied with eating just half for lunch and save the other half for dinner. I get a hole-in-the-wall, mom n pop-type shop vibe. When I've gone to pick up our food, there were always people waiting outside during the lunch rush. There are tables inside, but I assume people grab takeout to bring it back to their office. Came here this morning because I was looking for some good pho before my flight. The restaurant feels more like a takeout place. I was going to be in and out so that didn't matter to me. I ordered the number 1 which is the beef pho and took my seat. It wasn't long until it came out. The soup was piping hot which is a very good sign. Very solid lunch spot if you work downtown. They're only open for weekday lunch service. They have tasty Vietnamese sandwiches (banh mi) and I'd recommend the pork one. Very flavorful, fresh tasting ingredients, crunchy bread. The cucumbers, carrot, and cilantro add freshness, the pork adds that savory flavor, and the sauce adds sweetness. I love Kim's!!! They have a small menu, but they execute everything perfectly. If they were open for more hours than lunch, I would eat here ALL THE TIME. Kim's is some of the best pho ga I have had! Starting with the broth- it tastes clean and fresh and is not clouded like some places. There is a hint of aromatics. It gels when cold so it must come from a good simmering of chicken parts. The chicken is always moist and tender. I always opt for no noodles and extra veggies. I ordered the Beef Pho on post-mates and had it delivered to my house. They put the bee slices in the hot broth for to go orders so the beef are over cooked by the time it gets home. Which is odd to me since every other Pho restaurant, they usually put the beef NOT in the hot broth for to go orders. Meat portion is lacking as well compared to their competitors. Sorry, to all of you who have reviewed and stated the Pho here is amazing. You simply are wrong. The pho here is loaded with MSG and left me drinking water non stop all day. Service is fast and friendly. Prices are ok. The bowl is a touch larger than normal, but doesn't cover up the fact the Pho was just mediocre. Most of the customers who came it seem glassy eyed like this was their first foray into anything "oriental". Yes I said "oriental", you know like the generic flavor of instant ramen noodles because you couldn't distinguish the difference between Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese, etc. Please culture yourself before saying something is the best of the best because you're only clouding the judgement of anybody else who is trying to enjoy authentic "ethnic" food. This place is a little hole-in-the-wall owned by a small family. They are super friendly and go out of their way to help customers. I casually mentioned once that I had to drive around the block to find parking on J street and the cashier was kind enough to offer to deliver the food to my car next time. I come here weekly for their bahn mi, and even throughout all of COVID they are always consistently delicious. If you call in your order ahead, they get your food out fast. Their pricing is good too. I can typically get 2 meals out of a single sandwich for $7. Plus, their restaurant is always clean and I see all the workers practicing good COVID protocols, which makes me feel comfortable eating there. Yummy! Mom and pop place where you don't want to struggle with a million different menu options! This hidden gem is along J street but don't miss it when walking by! There's street parking or if you walk a bit further, parking garages are available. This is a great place to grab to go orders especially if you're ordering around lunch time. Seating is limited to about 6 tables and it's a popular place on a chilly day! FOOD Menu options have about 8 or so items. We got the Pho (beef with rice noodles & soup), egg rolls, and vermicelli. The portion sizes are pretty giant and around $9-$10 each. The pho had a nice mint flavor but was a tad bit salty. Very tasty though :) the vermicelli was pretty bomb. I usually don't finish all the noodles but I felt like it was a really great quantity (some for later too) and quality. The egg rolls were what really set this place apart from other pho places. They were legit egg rolls that were larger and. It just full of veggies (spring rolls)!! Def worth it to get :) yummm. Maybe I didn't have what everyone else was having? I came during lunch hour and found parking pretty quickly. I got hassled by a few bums while trying to get in, and when I did some of the bums followed me. Anyways, I walked up to the counter where there were a couple people standing and I had to ask people if they were in line to order. The employee eventually came to the counter to take my order. I ordered a couple sandwiches, and I pointed as I ordered. After about 15 minutes my sandwiches were done, and they ended up getting my order all wrong; which is beyond me. So I waited another 15 minutes for them to get it right. I decided to eat it at home since the place has VERY limited seating, and when my boyfriend and I had the sandwiches we weren't happy. Had Jury duty and found myself craving a Bahn mi sandwich. Yelped closest vietnamese restaurant and Kim's Vietnamese popped up. I'm so glad it did! Their pork banh mi sandwich was delicious and they didn't skimp on the meat. They have a very simple menu of the popular vietnamese items. I had to go back for their chicken pho and they didn't disappoint again. The staff are super friendly and efficient. For $7, I got a very tasty, filling bowl of beef pho. Highly recommended. Plenty of pieces of meat and loaded with noodles. However, if you plan to eat at the restaurant, I would recommend arriving close to 11:30 AM, if not before. When I arrived at 11:20, there was no line at the cash register and 25% of the tables were taken. By 11:35, there was a line of at least 5 people and most of the tables were taken. You order and pay at the cash register, get a piece of plastic with an order number to place on the edge of your table, and a man will bring the food to your table (assuming you get there early enough to find a table, or luck out and happen to be looking for a table at the same time someone is leaving). Their menu consists of 11 items. A couple of pho options, Vietnamese sandwiches, a few rice plates, and shrimp fried rice. I have also had their Vietnamese sandwiches and for $3.75 they are a good deal. But I still prefer the pho over their sandwiches. I'll be back to try the rice plates. read more

My friend and I shared an order of chicken / shrimp noodle soup, and an order of Teriyaki chicken over combo fried rice and noodles. I was happy that we got the fried rice and noodles combo because the rice was sticky rice and the noodles tasted like garlic noodles. Posting a review because we really miss Kim's, and this might make me feel a little better. This place might not look like much, but inside lies one of the cleanest, most beautiful beef broths I've ever had in any noodle soup, despite my limited experience with pho. (Friends have said that this is the best pho on the grid, but because I've never ventured down Stockton Blvd to confirm for myself, I'm going to stick with this as my favorite bowl until I know better.) I picked up a bowl of pho here years ago with some coworkers, but after years of training my noodle/soup palate, I think I was finally ready to revisit Kim's when I stopped in a couple months ago. And wow, what a homecoming. First, the broth is so clean that a spritz of lemon doesn't feel bitter. Then, you add the sprouts, peppers, basil, if you please. The first bite of noodles is promising--how haven't they lapsed into a clump? And the fish ball? Perfect, so springy! The beef is as tender and forgiving as it should be, but more than you expected. I never finish a whole bowl, but around halfway through, I start to take serious stock of how much more I can fit, then make hard decisions about whether to leave behind broth or noodles, but usually nothing else. Leaving, I always want to take a nap, but in a light, floaty way. Oh, and the banh mi is amazing. Whenever I'm downtown for training, I grab one of these and always end up making too much noise while unwrapping the final half for an afternoon snack. Worth it. read more

The broth was tasty and hot enough to cook my rare steak to perfection. I hate overcooked meats, and the brisket and rare steak are of great quality here. Kim's Vietnamese Food is a spot for a very hungry person. Huge, generous portions for only $9.75! For me, I can make two meals out of my order. I recommend sharing an order if you are not too hungry and getting a side of the giant sized egg rolls. They are on the meaty side and very crispy. Perfect combo of savory noodle soup and crispy goodness. This is my kind of comfort food. I just wish they had a clear noodles option like some of the places in South Sacramento.
