This place is a little hard to spot, but well worth it!! I've been here twice, and both times it was exceptional. The sushi was fresh and beautifully done - you can tell they care - and tasted great! The other time I went I had wings and Thai, and it was also exceptionally good. I just wish they worked with a delivery service and I would eat it more often. I wanted to wait to review Kin Khao after going a few times and trying different dishes. Now after three times I'm weighing in on the quality of Thai food. Good Asian food in a non-Asian city is hard to come by. So I was thrilled to hear from friends that a new Thai place opened up. I've tried three dishes - pad see eiw, spicy basil, Vietnamese pho, and pad ki mao. The standouts were the bowl of pho and the pad ki mao. I've also tried the tom kha and tom yum soups. The pad see eiw was really good but compared to the pad ki mao (which is similar) my preference was for the later because of flavor. Both of these have the thicker noodles but they differ in vegetables and somewhat in seasoning. Being from the western coast, here's my take on the pho. I'm always nervous when Asian restaurants serve dishes that are out of their wheelhouse. I'm not saying they don't know what they are doing but it's really best to stay in one's lane of expertise. But the good news on the pho is its outstanding! The broth and vegetables are phenomenal and really capture Vietnamese noodle cuisine well. The soups were very good. Now keep in mind they are different than western soups. The broth is lighter with meat and vegetables. The tom yum could have been a bit more sour but the aroma was fantastic. However, my favorite soup was the tom kha. The coconut milk offered a bit more creaminess and the addition of mushrooms was delicious. The owners are really trying to make a go of this so I would be patient. I would encourage people to come a few times, try a few dishes before coming to a conclusion. I love that our city is growing in an ethnicity that is reflected in cuisine! read more

Like a restaurant for crazy people! Constantly disorganized. Frenetic energy. I have tried this place on multiple occasions. On one instance, dining in, my husband and I waited for our meals for two hours! Yes, you read that correctly. Mind you, this is a restaurant that seats no more than maybe 15 people. I have since attempted to do carry out here. It is also crazy when trying to do that. When you call on the phone you either get the answering machine or in the rare case that someone answers, they are out of breath And clearly struggling to maintain their composure. Tried this place out and was impressed for where it is located. The location is a little weird (basement of an old college frat house) but the food was great. The sushi chef was comical as he serenaded us in early 2000's songs and joked with customers. The sushi was good quality considering it was in Indiana and the servings were nice sized portions. Our first visit here completely surpassed any expectations we had. The atmosphere was small and cozy and the staff is so welcoming. We ordered sushi, pho, crab fried rice, and curry. It was the first day they were serving sushi and the sushi was delicious. We got the #10 and #12. The pho was refreshing and delicious and it came with a bunch of fresh veggies to add to the broth. The best pad Thai you'll ever have in your natural-born life. Every time I eat their shrimp pad Thai, I get a little tingly in my booty cheeks (this happens every time I eat something good, don't worry). One of the waiters there is pretty lame, though, so one star off for that. It really is a shame not a lot of people go there. If you drove down Lincolnway before, and you passed Kim Khao Thai Sushi without stopping, you should be ashamed of yourself. Absolutely phenomenal. Really tasty food options but they lose a star because I waited for an hour for a sushi burrito and my friend ate her entire meal before mine even got started at the sushi station. That should have been communicated upon ordering. They started it after all other tickets were in because it takes a while to make. I've been in the service industry for a long time and I've never seen that done. Overall, the food was very good. There are lots of options in both the sushi and the Thai menu. A bit pricey compared to other similar restaurants but no complaints about any of the food as far as taste. The roll I ordered was definitely bigger than rolls at other sushi restaurants though. The service was a bit slow, there was only one server working when I went. But he was very nice and helpful. The food is always fantastic! I have been here multiple times and each time the service is great. I typically order a California roll, one of their specialty rolls, and a side of fried rice. The fried rice was delicious and had a larger portion considering it was a side and the price. The rolls tasted fresh and were presented beautifully with decoration. FINALLY, Valpo got it right this time with an Asian restaurant that actually serves Authentic Thai food that tastes like your Thai best friends' grandmother's home cooked meals. This place is very hidden in Lincolnway, but there is a sign to the right if you are heading towards downtown Valpo and a driveway that leads you to the parking lot. The ambience is OK; like the bright colors but not a place to go to for fine dining; HOWEVER definitely a place to go to if you are craving Thai food or Maki rolls or if you are sick with a cold, they have delicious Tom yum soup that is a bit sour and spicy that makes your throat and nasal passages feel better. The yellow curry and pad Thai were very tasty. I like how all the flavors blended well together and even tastes better the day after. Portions are shareable with 2-3 people depending how much you eat. I had the Phoenix cooked maki roll which was pretty tasty too. Not sure if the place is BYOB or if they serve alcohol. Prices are reasonable; service was excellent...this place needs to stay in Valpo so I'll have a favorite local Thai place instead of driving to Chicago; so please check it out for yourself and tell your friends! read more

My husband ate at the restaurant last week and enjoyed the quaint setting and food. He was so excited for me to try the food as we just moved from Indianapolis and travel all over the world eating wonderful food From various cultures. We decided to order carry out after a long work week. We ordered Thai soup;, appetizers and two entrees. I requested Thai Hot for the Pad Thai with chicken. The entree came at no spice and with little to no chicken. I really did not think the food was good. I did think the soup was the best. I really wanted to like the food after eating in DC, Toronto, Chicago and Indy but it really was not good, With that said, I was wiling to try it again- maybe an off night. So I called the owner- I wanted to let him know the issues because I truly miss eating Thai food and want it to work. He was less than proactive in trying to fix our issue. He asked to call us back. He did call us back but asked if we could come back to the restaurant to get our order. It is now to late to drive back. He kept stating that he submitted the order to the cooks correctly. He kept arguing about how correct he and the restaurant was. If had tried to fix the issue or be polite, then all would be good. We will not be back- the owner is rude. read more
