5/1/21-Oops! Forgot to eat Hawaiian food today! Dat's okay, I get lau lau in da freezah! Okie dokie.....we've been married for 25 years now & eating here for that long too! I have been loving their entrees since day one! Yes, the roast pork w/crispy skin is a bit salty. Another yelper said so too. But,have you tried it? Ugh ! So delightful! Also the char siu, so much flavor...not shy wit da seasoning! My good friend's dad taught me how to do a stir fry with sliced roast pork,mustard cabbage & oyster sauce! Ono brah ! (I try not to speak pidgin but when explaining food, I get so excited! Sorry!) Our teen boy has been craving roast pork for weeks! So, I thought I'd treat him & big daddy today! We each ordered a plate & dined in...yes, dine in is open! They bring u water, set down a table setting,give u a small dish for mustard & shoyu. Teen boy ordered roast pork 2xs & fried rice.Husband had roast pork,char siu & fried rice. My eyeballs were buggin' out on da tripe! I also got roast pork & chow funn. Mmm,mmm ! Guess we all were craving some of dat crispy skin on da succulent roast pork! We stayed in there for about 2hrs jus talking story about our future plans. This place was unreal. We ordered a pan of noodles and garlic potato salad this morning. Said it would be ready by 3pm. We take the receipt with us back to grab the order at 3pm and the guy working said he didn't have our order (Ummm...ok?). We let them know the lady who was there earlier rang us up but because this guy didn't see what we ordered on the receipt he didn't know what to make. So he's all confused (and we are too) and then says that they'll make the order right then. Like...what was the point of ordering it earlier if it wasn't even made or ready? And then they're not sure what they were supposed to make? Makes no sense. Anyways, not ordering from this place again and I'll let my family and friends know there's other better places to pick up food from. read more

Ran into this place as a last resort since the restaurant I usually go to was closed. We ordered Won Ton Mein and it's was really like eating the old time recipe. For Chinese take out this place rocks. Actually, I pretty much only get the char siu and roast pork, but they do offer a plate lunch style menu. I would definitely say the char siu and roast pork is easily the best on the Windward side, maybe even the island. You know it's good when you walk in and the pork and ducks are hanging from hooks in the window and they cut it on a big wood block with a rather large cleaver. Try it. You'll love it! read more

CASH ONLY. I grew up eating here so I always thought it was good. After I was old enough to experience restaurants on my own and branch out, coming back to this place makes me realize that it's not as awesome as I quite remember. The staff here is amazing. Very friendly. The restaurant itself was very clean. The food however, was just okay. We got noodles, pork hash, sweet sour pork, duck, roast pork, and kayuk. The noodles and SS pork were just ok. The kayuk was pretty junk. Not enough flavor. The duck and roast pork were pretty good. The pork hash was a 5/5. We got a rice cake to go because I remembered that it was my favorite, and it still lived up to my memory. I probably won't be back any time soon, but if I do end up coming back I'll get the pork hash again for sure. read more

I've been stopping at this walk-in buffet, not paying attention to the special order menu fo 12 years. Today got WarWon Ton for hubby and 3-choice plate for me. The WWT was full of fresh Veggies and won ton. Very good tasting and great tasting soup. Plate lunch include, duck, green beans w/ pork n kau yuk, w/fried rice. Everything very tasty. I've been coming here ever since they first opened.... not sure why I have not posted a review till now. Probably thought I already did. This little Chinese restaurant in the WWC shopping center has very limited seating and is primarily a take out type of eatery. What keeps me coming back is what I think is one of the best tripe stew on the Island. Their tripe stew in my opinion is the best in taste and tenderness. Other favorites of mine include the roast pork, char siu, roast duck and roast chicken. All of which are traditionally displayed on hooks up front by the window above a huge wooden cutting block and a giant cleaver. Just like how I remembered it in the good ole days in downtown Chinatown(Honolulu). They also prepare preorders of roasted whole suckling pig during the major holidays. And the prices and portions here may be better than what you'll find in most Chinese Restaurants that are primarily sit down dine in style. read more

Kin Sun is most definitely NOT closed. I just ate there yestarday, and the pig is even better than I remember it to be. Yuck! My first instinct was to walk out and buy lunch from one of the other establishments right next door. The optimist in me asked, "How bad can it be?". It didn't bother me that the owner crammed my 6 steamed manapua into a ridiculously tiny brown paper bag, but It sort of bothered me when the other worker put that paper bag into a tiny plastic bag and then crammed two pint containers into it. My fault that I let her do that..... I reasoned that the manapua was soft, I was in a rush, and that it would be okay. When the worker dropped my two small containers of mustard into that mess I just prayed it wouldn't leak out. I needn't have worried about the manapua.....When we got home to eat it, it was so hard there was no way it would have been crushed. It wasn't the least bit warm and though it tasted pretty good, the dough on the top was overly shiny, an off-white color, and the texture left me wondering how fresh it was. Several hours later the left over manapua cracked open on the top :( We also ordered one small pint container of chow fun noodles, and a small container of eggplant with chicken. While the taste was decent the textures were odd. (Tactful way of saying mushy.) I should have gone with my gut instinct when I looked at the choices just sitting there..... I used to come here for plate lunches, but it's been well over 5 years since I've gone to this place and it's probably going to be another 5 years before I go back! read more

Good roasted meats. Nothing mind-blowing compared to the excellent places in Chinatown. I got roast pork which had crispy skin and well-seasoned. The non-fatty pieces were a bit on the dry side. I also got char siu which was not very fatty (if you're into that) but the pieces with charred bits were the best. I prefer my roasted meats very fatty (fat is flavor!). read more

I always come here at least once when on the island. Great BBQ, best prices. They have four or five tables if you want to eat there. The roast pork is excellent. I like the crackling (the crispy skin). The pork is succulent, tasty and not too salty. Not too much fat below the skin. The cook told me they get their pork from Chile. I also like the roast duck. Restaurant quality and never too dry. You can get a two, three or four-item combination. The four-item is $10.42, including tax, and should satisfy the hunger of two people. If one person finishes a four-item by themselves, we should call them a "roast pig". read more

When I was younger, and I mean preschool-1st grade young, my tutu would bring me and my brother to this little "hole in the wall" Chinese food joint after church service. I would often times be amazed by the lucky cat statues and the duck hanging in the window. In those days, we only got two things: Char Siu and Kau Yuk. For those not in the know, char siu is a Chinese-flavored BBQ pork and kau yuk is fatty pork belly flavored with fermented red bean curd. We would get these two dishes accompanied with rice. After my Body Pump session at the gym, I decided to visit this place we once frequented. I walked in and was brought back to my child hood days. This place has not aged or has not seemed to have changed ANYTHING. There's still those lucky cat statues and duck hanging in the window. I even think they still used the same butcher block to cut all their meats from when I was just 7 years old. When it was my turn, I got the same two dishes, minus the rice, which came out to about $12. A little expensive, considering the fact that I got a quarter pound of both. The char siu was nicely charred and flavored good. I thought it had a nice ratio of meat and fat. That was a pleasure. When it came to the kau yuk, I didn't realize how fatty the meat really was. All I remember was it was so good growing up. When I took a bite yesterday, I quickly spit it out, because there was no meat! All fat! Works for some people, not for me. Flavored good, but too fatty. Lesson learned: perception of your childhood favorites will not always remain consistent 20 years later. LOL read more

ROASTED MEATS!!! That's what this place is all about! My family has been coming here for years. The current owner took over about 15 yrs ago or so and they improved it a lot. We always get the Roast Duck (don't forget the sauce), Char Siu (the fatty one for making fried rice at home), Roast Pork and my wife's favorite the Roast Chicken (again with the sauce). So I realize there's a plethora of Chinese restaurants in Kaneohe. In the Windward City Shopping Center, there are two alone, with a whole bunch more within a 5-minute drive! Sure, there's Pah Ke's and Kin Wah. But because I work at Windward City right across from Kin Sun, that's where my office goes. Plus we get an afternoon "snack" every Friday and this "snack" is one of the ones I look forward to! We usually order the gau gee cake noodle or the minute chicken cake noodle. Both are pretty tasty. It's pretty much dinner and ain't no snack. A few of my coworkers like coming here for lunch - you know, I'm new to working at Windward City and will come here soon. Running errands took us to Kaneohe at lunch time today and we didn't know where to go. Took a quick turn into Windward City and was headed right toward Denny's. As I parked we saw Kozo Sushi, a Korean bbq and a Chinese place. We opted for Chinese. Parking. Lot's of parking! Inside was pretty small with 6 small tables, clean, nothing fancy. As we entered the restaurant, we were pleasantly greeted by two ladies. I looked at the steam table and there were some options that I haven't seen in a Chinese restaurant of this type. We both took 2 choice plates, mine was chow funn, stuffed bitter melon, and tripe stew! Yee haw! The Mrs got chow mein, kau yuk, and roast duck. Taste. The chow funn was excellent, the stuffed bitter melon was stuffed with pork hash and in a black bean sauce gravy. The bitter melon was a little soft, but it was very tasty! The tripe was firm but very tasty as well. The Mrs enjoyed her meal, but her kau yuk was mostly fat. The duck was excellent. Overall, we enjoyed this place. The price was reasonable at $8.50 for a 2 choice plate. Everything was well seasoned and not overly salty, and the people here are super nice! We also got some pork hash and rice cake to go! I remember going here from way back when I was little and could hardly see over the counter...but I could see on top of the steam table window, where there would be a plastic tray of springy white rice cake. I would always beg my mom for some (she always would, and still does, go there to buy roast pork and roast duck). THE best roast pork and roast duck on the Windward side, and the parking situation is a lot less stress-inducing than going to Chinatown. Perfect ratios of skin and fat (important!) to meat, and it's juicy. Try ask them to chop up some roast pork for you, then take it home and stir fry with some watercress and oyster sauce! Only reason I gave it 4 stars is because I never tried their other food (I think we got jai from there one New Years, but I don't quite remember), so I can't really rate them on that. But I must have gotten roast pork, duck, and rice cake there at least 30 times in the span of my lifetime. Oh and they are friendly too! read more
