This restaurant may be in an unassuming strip mall, but that is seemingly a trend in Anchorage with all the exceptional places I have dined at here. This is a truly white table cloth restaurant with exceptional service. It is one of the higher end restaurants in Anchorage. It is a very romantic setting with low lighting, and lots of candles. The chef puts out a creative and delicious seasonal menu incorporating local ingredients when possible, and they also release a weekly pre fixe tasting menu. The restaurant is only beer, and wine service. But, they have an extremely extensive wine list, and also offer wine pairing suggestions. For the pre fixe menu you can also have wine paired with your meal for an additional cost. When we dined here my husband ordered off menu, and I chose the pre fixe menu option. Off menu we started with the pork belly tostadas served on pancakes, my husband ordered a braised short rib for his entree, and for dessert a flour less chocolate cake. The tasting menu is $65 and included 5 course. The menu started off with oysters, and a turnip cream soup then for main courses I was served Kodiak scallops, and lamb chops. The meal was finished with a green tea creme brulee. The food was excellent! Every course was beautifully prepared and presented. The flavors all melded together well, and the meal was extremely impressive. The pork belly appetizer was extremely creative, and had a lot of awesome flavor. My husband was raving about the braised short rib. It was a very tender, and large chunk of beef, and you could tell it had been prepared well. I thought my pre fixe menu was of excellent value for what I was served. My favorite were the turnip cream soup and the Kodiak scallops. The scallops melted in your mouth, and the beet maple puree that they served the scallops with was to die for. I do not even really care for mushrooms, and I was loving the confit king oyster mushrooms. The meal here was absolutely excellent, and so was the service. Even though it may be in a strip mall--it is a very high brow restaurant. I prefer a more casual high end meal setting, but that is a matter of preference. Kincaid is by far my favorite upscale restaurant that I have tried so far in Anchorage and in general. It's small, with only about maybe 15-20 tables tops and pretty much every table is occupied by a couple with maybe a few tables with 3-5 people occupying it. When you enter the nice hostess's offer to check your coat for you before showing you to your seat. I do recommend you call and make a reservation. We made ours a short 36 hours in advance and had no issues. We also were more than thirty minutes late due to the extremely icy road conditions and we experienced no drama due to that. They were extremely understanding. The menu at this place is so diverse and I believe truly has something for anyone, even those that sometimes struggle to find something to eat at nicer places (like me!). The food was absolutely amazing. My favorite being the Gorgonzola Fondue Appetizer. I would order that and eat it as a meal alone, it's that good. The portions here are a really good size too, it's not one of those fancy restaurants where you're gonna leave and wind up hungry an hour later. I was stuffed after leaving here! Service was great and the wines they chose for me and my date were on point. Staff was very knowledgeable about the menu items and appeared to have actually tried each dish themselves if not most of them which is always nice when you're at a restaurant where you're paying more for everything. I really don't have anything negative to say about my visit here. This place was referred to me by my boss so I had to try it. Located in a strip mall I realized this restaurant isn't real big, this is why I had to sit at the bar, they have limited tables and they must fill up fast. I ordered the fried chicken. Boneless breast with the wingette attached. It was delicious. Served on a bed of spinach...with a dallop of mashed potatoes. Caesar salad was pretty good also. Wow! What an experience! Going during the week is the way to go. We were able to reserve a great table, and it was an effortless process. The restaurant is smallish and cozy. You'd never think something so lovely could be tucked away inside a shopping/office plaza like that. The ambiance and lighting was soothing like a spa, without being so dark you can't comfortably eat or experience it all. The waitstaff was extremely genial and attentive. The level of personalization offered to each guests' table was so refreshing to see. The entirety of the staff seem to communicate and work together exceptionally well. And we love being able to see into the kitchen, is both having culinary backgrounds. It's like a silent beehive of hardworking staff. Our meals were outstanding. Our waitress introduced us to the specials and mentioned how she herself worked with the chef in her own ventures because his food was that great. This was wonderful to hear and definitely encouraged our food choices. We ordered the tomato basil soup and beet and brussell salad. Everything was so rich in flavor and handcrafted in taste. For our entrees we ordered the Mahi Mahi with Dry Aged Duroc Porkchop. My Mahi was insanely fresh, moist and cooked to perfection. The accompanying gnocchi with puréed kale was out of this world. They were so buttery and soft. The asparagus was perfectly tender and lightly seasoned. And don't get me started on the red pepper and sausage combo. Everything paired just so well together. My husband's porkchop was delicately cooked and seared with the best flavors. His was accompanied by bacon braised cabbage and spaetzle. Again, incredible combinations that were well thought out. We had the malazadas for dessert. To be donuts, they were such a light way to end the meal. Perfectly sized to share with the right amount of citrus curd to cut the fat. I had an amazing experience on my first visit, having the opportunity to chat with chef and sample a few different delicious items. The first visit I tried the black cod (delicious) and sampled the seafood fusion soup (WOW - absolutely delicious) as well as some incredible Alaskan oysters (also delicious). On visit two I had to order a whole bowl of the seafood which was as good as I remembered. However the salmon special was disappointing. The flavors didn't mix well together and the dish overall seemed disjointed. I think I'll stick to the main menu next time as this was a big let down when I had such great memories from the first trip. I sat at the bar both times and felt like the service was fantastic on the first trip but was a little less wow'ed on my second visit. I still think this is the best of Anchorage that I've experienced on my visits and it's definitely worth a visit!!! read more

My new favorite fancy restaurant in Anchorage. I finally dined here in a chilly night in September. My family and I started off with several appetizers including some fabulous crab cakes, fresh oysters, a Caesar salad and the Mediterranean Plate. The crab cakes were not weighed down by bread crumbs and veggies but consisted mostly of crab, which was a pleasant surprise! I really enjoyed the Mediterranean plate, it had an assortment of things like hummus, feta, olives, tomatoes and roasted peppers to put on a crostini or pita. I wish they put vegetables like cucumbers (lower carb) and more hummus on the plate though! I also liked the Caesar salad, the dressing was creamy and had the perfect Caesar taste. I don't eat oysters but my mom loved them! Our main courses came some time after but that wasn't a problem since we were talking and having a good time. I was very pleased with my seafood cioppino. The pieces of fish were large, the prawns were delicious and the scallops were perfectly cooked. My favorite part about this dish was the wonderful tomato broth, it was so flavorful. I didn't get a chance to try my dads scallops but his risotto was good. My boyfriend's lamb looked amazing (I don't eat land animal meat), I did try the greens and beans that accompanied his dish and they were seasoned and cooked perfectly. I really enjoyed his side! My mom's prays we're great too! The sauce was flavorful and complemented the prawns and the cornbread. We did settle on getting dessert. We got the chocolate soufflé and mouse. Chocolate wasted doesn't even come close to describe our desserts. But they were worth every bite. The soufflé was fluffy and soft. The mousse was chocolaty, creamy and wonderfully balanced. Service was so attentive, my water glass was never empty, our plates were cleared in a timely manner and our food came out at good intervals. Our waitress was nice and patient with us even after we ordered the 15 minute to make soufflé with only 5 minutes until their last seating at 10pm. I can't wait to come back! read more

Kincaid Grill is a gem in Anchorage! Visiting from out of state, we were happy to have a recommendation from a local friend. As soon as I opened the door, the ambiance was perfect. Filtered lighting, gentle music, and crisp white tablecloths gave me a good vibe. Our waitress, Kim, explained the dinner specials with such a depth of knowledge that I was truly excited for the meal to come. She gave us perfect wine recommendations based on our tastes. While waiting for our order someone came around with an array of fresh breads, we both chose the rosemary, it was divine. We ordered the Gorgonzola fondue to start, ahhhmazing, and probably enough to serve four. For mains, I had the king salmon special, with the best gnocchi I've ever tasted and fiddle ferns. My dining companion had the scallops, they were seared to perfection, and a risotto that was bliss. To finish, a little port and a large crème brûlée w raspberry coulis and fresh berries. For a city of its size, Anchorage has a surprising amount of "dang, that's kinda spendy" restaurants. Some are worth it, some are not. I'm here to tell you: this one is worth it. Let's just get the Yelp clichés out of the way in the beginning: "gem" "diamond in the rough" (I just googled this to make sure I was spelling it correctly, and the first definition that comes up is not at all what I thought this phrase meant. You'll see shortly what I mean by this. For google's meaning, try this: http://bfy.tw/POa) "cool little spot" "don't judge a book by its cover" Etc. This place is in a strip mall, in a largely residential area. You'd probably never think to go here unless you had a father/mother/uncle-and-his-lover that suggested you do. You should. Don't be scared or turned-off by the strip mall exterior. I walked in and was greeted and given AMAZING, friendly, and prompt service. Maybe I'm insecure about this and just projecting, or maybe these places really are snobby to me. I'm often younger than the usual demographic at fancy-schmancy places...and often a bit "rougher" looking. What do I mean? Unruly hair. Abrasive beard. Not at all "dressed up", etc. I sometimes feel like a caveman at Victorian tea-time. Not here. I felt like everyone was related to me. I felt like a family member they hadn't seen in a while. Sometimes I felt *this close* to their pinching my cheeks and teasing me about not having a girlfriend. That's how friendly they were! The service was so on point that two different servers rushed over to tell me about the specials. I heard them twice. I heard them once and then another server was concerned that perhaps no one had come over and helped me, so she rushed over and gave me the spiel as well. This is a GOOD PROBLEM TO HAVE. I got a special appetizer. It was ferns. Local ferns. I didn't know you could eat ferns, so I had to eat them. They were very very good! For my main course, I got Kodiak scallops. Why? Three reasons: 1) I've never had "Kodiak" scallops since moving up here, and I love scallops. 2) This place seemed like the place to get them at, if I was going to take the plunge. 3) They are the marshmallows of the sea!!!!! They were also excellent. They did not make the grave mistake most "nice restaurants" do and give you itty bitty portions that cause your stomach to ask you embarrassing questions like "is it in yet? I...I can't really feel it..." All the while it looks just as presentable as those classic "tiny platings" you see at high-end joints. I was kinda full, but I decided to listen to the desserts anyway, since my server was so nice. I'm not really into desserts or sweets. But if I had to pick my favorite type of dessert, it would be CHEESECAKE. They not only had a house-made cheesecake, it was made with GOAT cheese. I have a rule that I order anything with goat cheese, so I took the plunge. Like everything else here, it was one of the best-tasting representatives of its respective food category. Our go-to source for inflight aircrew meals out of Anchorage. The local FBOs usually recommend Kincaid for western-style catering, and if the order is placed in good time then it arrives at the jet as promised. I'm a fan of the 'meal boxes' which include main, side salad, fresh fruit, a sweet treat (soft bake cookies!) all in a simple metal tray. The deluxe seafood box is the bomb! Two locals directed us here. I had done my research on yelp/zagat/etc. and was quite looking forward to come here. While it was good, I'd have to agree with Tasha's comments: this is merely a slightly better than average quality food and presentation yet overpriced for what it is. I started with the oysters casino and at $14 was a reasonably priced starter. Roasted beet salads were very good, though the portion was small @ $7. I'd rather get more food, and I'd pay $9-11. The fish mains are where they really overprice. While the halibut was good, at $36??? My special fish of the day was $38. Granted the presentations are very nice, but to spend more for local fish that I'd pay at among the best restaurants in Vancouver....no way. Wines were reasonably priced by the glass @ $11-12, though half bottle of Duckhorn Sauv Blanc was pricey at $32. Caramel bread pudding for dessert was similarly very good and reasonably priced @ $8. Service tries to impress, and while our server was very knowledgable about the menu and we felt steered us in the right directions, the rest of the waitstaff are juniors in training. Nice presentations on dishes with good stemware and cutlerly made us comfortable (see photos). This is a 20 minute cab ride out of town, about 10 minutes from the airport. read more

Went for dinner. The seafood combination soup was amazing. The next course of crab cakes not so much. They tasted and looked like salmon. When asked the server said you are the second person in the last 2 days that asked that. They also had a thick crust of corn meal. These were some of the worst crab cakes I have ever had. I was so excited to grab food here because of the reviews, but I had to mark 3 stars off this place because of the server who helped us through the phone and when we came to pick it up wasn't very friendly. When we called she wanted us to place an order online but we had a few things to substitute if we could and she said yes. She then said "Well, I have a lot of people coming in so when did you want to pick this up?" We said 30 minutes? Not really knowing like when would be best for them. Thought it was a weird question to ask us. When we got there she was upset that my husband came inside to pay with our gift card. For one, she told us that we needed to go in to pay with a gift card since they couldn't take it over the phone. Should have specified that she wanted us to wait outside. Word is this is the best restaurant in Anchorage and our experience supported this claim. This is a small, elegant restaurant which pretty much seems to require reservations. We managed to get in to the bar, not having planned ahead. One of our group ordered scallops. They were outstanding. These were the large sea scallops, tender, probably 6 on the plate. Perfect! The brussel sprouts were very unique and amazing. They were first blanched and then deep-fried so that each leaf was crispy. The bread is the best we've had in Alaska. It was freshly baked bread sliced into thick slabs with a crispy crust. There were 3 kinds to choose from: Kalamata olive, potato bread and rosemary. The fillet mignon was cooked perfectly, tender, moist, served with light, creamy mashed potatoes. Our group loved this meal from beginning to end,: the wine, bread, side dishes, and the entree. SO disappointing. The place was not packed. Service was excellent but the food took a long time and was not great. Friends had the lemongrass soup and it seemed good, I had the gumbo. I had the shrimp and Gouda grits, it was ok. It took over an hour to get our main dish. One friend had the filet requested medium, it arrived rare so she had to send it back. The other 3 of us were done and they tried to collect her utensils before her filet came back, when it returned it was still a bit bloody but an improvement. One friend had the chicken, she didn't like it. Dessert was ok, chocolate souffle- good, creme brulee good, a bread pudding that was more like a coffee cake. So disappointed. Kincaid Grill has been my most favorite restaurant in town for years and I would give it 5 stars every time . The atmosphere is quiet, private and romantic, the food is to die for and always consistently amazing , and the service is beyond the best service we've had anywhere in town, they just have a lot of class . We loved it so much that there was a time we were coming here at least once a month . However, after our last few visits I feel compelled to write this review. I'm not sure if there is new management or what is going on over there , but unfortunately the quality and service I have come to love and expect from this establishment is not what it used to be . We made reservations weeks in advance for my birthday , which my boyfriend specifically let them know of the occasion. When we arrived we were told that we could have a table up front by the door , normally where walk in clients would get seated , or in the back room between two very large parties . There were many open tables in the main dining area and we asked if we could be seated there instead , we were told we could not because they had another large reservation in about an hour and those were reserved for them . I was unhappy about this but opted for the table in the back, not by the front door in the walk in seating . After being seated it took a pretty long time for anyone to come over and greet us or take our order. Once that was done though we ordered a few appetizers and our entrees . The Gorgonzola Fondue appetizer is my absolute favorite dish at this restaurant and is the main reason I come here so frequently . It. Is. To. Die. For. That being said , the last few times we have came it was not what I expected at all. The crostini's they gave us were hard as a rock( and this was the case the last three visits ) I had a hard time breaking them in two with my hands let alone actually biting into it with my teeth ! I'm not sure if they changed the recipe or what but it really brings the entire experience of the dish down, Which to me, is super disappointing. I let the waitress know but she told me it's how they always cook them . After we finished our appetizers we are enjoying our wine , while the servers are starting to take plates from one of the large parties next to us . As one of them is walking past our table she drops a fork on the floor , and instead of coming back to get it after she's dropped off the dishes , she proceeds to kick the fork over and over toward the kitchen where she is headed . After watching her kick this fork like some sort of soccer ball multiple times my boyfriend picks it up for her and she goes on her way . This is just not something I expect to see at my beloved Kincaid Grill, where service and class are usually second to none . Our entrees come and they are pretty much amazing , I have absolutely no complaints about the food . I had the filet which was cooked perfectly and my boyfriend had the prawns and he loved them . Then we order dessert because of course, it's my birthday. For the past 5 years we've gone there for my birthday and our anniversary etc and they usually do a little candle or write on the plate Very beautifully happy birthday, which is just another extra touch that we really love about this place . This year they did not do that and they forgot one of the desserts all together . We had to ask for it after only one was brought and had to wait another 5-10 minutes for the other persons. Last but not least, our waitress for the night was okay. She was nice enough , she wasn't too slow but she wasn't very quick either. She would stand and chat with us for several minutes, make jokes etc. She tried to take my plate before I was finished and I let her know I would still be eating what I had left . When she came back she condescendingly joked that "oh is it okay to take your plate now or you might still want that sauce" or something along those lines which was irritating . In the end what I'm saying is I don't want to feel like I'm dining at Humpy's, Friday's, or Chili's or some other similar restaurant when I come to Kincaid Grill and that is definitely the vibe of our waitress / whole experience. It just wasn't at all what I've come to know and adore about this place. I hope this isn't a new trend because unfortunately, like I said before this is the third time in a row we've come with similar experiences, and if it continues we will most likely have to start going elsewhere to get that quality of service and fine dining experience. read more

Best seafood fusion soup in town! When my family came up for our mother's funeral I took them all out for the seafood fusion soup. The seafood fusion soup was my moms favorite. The staff at Kincaid Grill treated us great and were able to accommodate our large group with a room in the back that you had to go through the kitchen to get to. Service: Wonderful Drinks: Not a great selection on non-alcoholic Appetizers: Delicious Bread: Delicious So at this point we were excited to get the main dish. Two of us ordered the scallops with Risotto and one the steak. Dinner: It wasn't terrible but not great. The steak was perfectly cooked but the flavor of the gravy was nothing special and tasted like they used canned tomato soup in it. The scallops themselves were good but nothing special. The Risotto was terrible. I wanted to show the person who prepared it how to make good Risotto. They used spinach in it but did nothing to add flavor to so that it tasted separate like the spinach was an after thought. We were going to get dessert but decided against it. read more

We got the Mediterranean appetizer which was very good as well, the only thing I would change is take off the hard oval bread crisps and have all of it the pita bread. The pita bread was so good. Best in class service. It is pretty equivalent to Four Seasons Hotel or St Regis Hotel level. The scallops and steak in the menu are beyond amazing. Menu prices are expensive but it is worth every single penny. Staff wears masks, tables are super clean, dishes come in perfect medium plate size (not too big or not tapas style). Parking is super easy. Dress code classy. I highly recommend the bbq oysters and their special arugula mix winter salad. We will definitely come back. read more
