Easily one of the best coffee shop experiences I've had in San Diego! Lyn was so incredibly friendly and proud of what she was doing. She was happy to tell me about the regions of beans, house made syrups, and the cold brew she had just finished preparing for the day. I brought my hyper husky with me and she quietly grabbed treats to give me the option without getting him too excited. He really appreciated that. The coffee was fantastic! I got an iced vanilla latte and a hot vanilla latte. The espresso was a medium light roast Ethiopian and the fruity notes that can sometimes taste sour in espresso actually tasted bright and delicious, especially when paired with the house made syrups. Sushi is even on their Doggie Wall of Fame, which makes every visit feel a little extra special! Such a friendly and cozy vibe! I've walked by this spot a few times and didn't realize there's a bigger living room type seating area in the back! I appreciated the nice marble tables and real dishes/silverware. You can tell there is a lot of thought put into every aspect of your experience. They were pretty much sold out of pastries by 10am so I had their oatmeal, it was sweet and hearty! I also appreciated the local art for sale on the walls and the general vibe was very down to earth. We were in the area for a week and found this little coffee spot right at the corner of the street. The menu included classic espresso drinks as well as some specialty drinks and drip coffee. There were also a few breakfast and pastry options. We got a latte, avocado toast, chocolate croissant, and a drip coffee. The drip coffee (Ethiopia) was particularly good. It was tangy and great for someone who likes light toast. The avocado toast was crispy and lightly seasoned with red chili peppers. The chocolate croissant had lava chocolates inside when warmed. Overall we were satisfied with the coffee and food. However, service efficiency could be improved. It took over 20min to get all of our coffee and food. While our coffee was in a dine-in cup, they made our avocado toast and croissant in a to-go box (no big deal though). I also had a lemon loaf with the cortado. The loaf came from a local bakery. The coffee shop offers inside and outside seating. The inside seating is vast and very comfortable. Went here on my most recent visit to SD. The barista was so friendly, and we ended up striking a convo about pretty names. I could've sat there for hours. Really great coffee, friendly staff (they live up to the name "kind coffee"), excellent study/work/hangout spot. We got a pourover and a latte. Both drinks were excellent and they even do latte art! We brought our dog and initially I was going to wait outside with the dog while my boyfriend went in to order, but the staff let the dog come in. They even gave him a treat and took a picture of him to add to their wall of customer pets! Dog was very happy for the attention lol. I noticed that they thoroughly washed their hands before and after giving him the treat. The inside of the cafe is clean and cozy and decorated with many plants. I also like that the music playing at the store is soft enough that you can focus or have a conversation. There are also magazines and books you can read as you have your drink. The only negative thing I can say is that there is no parking lot or designated customer parking spaces, so typical downtown street and paid parking situation. Depending on the hourly rate for parking, this could limit your time to spend here. But this is outside the control of the cafe of course, just something to consider as you plan your visit. read more
