The croissant was perfectly flaky and crunchy on the outside while staying light and airy inside. The ricotta cheesecake filling was rich and creamy with just the right amount of sweetness, and the apricot topping, along with the delicious apricot sauce, tied everything together perfectly. I love the idea of a baking collective where they rotate different bakers. I found out about this place through Instagram and knew I wanted to try the different Filipino desserts that are available right now. I would definitely recommend coming here earlier in the day when they have all of the pastries. There was also a line both times but it moved quickly. My personal favorites were the turon Kouign Amann, choc nut loaf, buko pandan supreme, and kare kare baked good. I definitely went crazy and tried a bunch of pastries the two times I went here just because I was so curious about all of the different options!! The portions are generous for the price and they don't skimp on the fillings. The only one I would pass on would be the lumpia roll. When I went last week, the menu showcased Chef Julian Demonchy and was very laminated/croissant-focused. There were some really interesting flavor combinations (smoked Baja tuna croissant, pistachio rhubarb galette, etc.), and everything was beautiful :D ** Matcha white & ruby chocolate cookie (4/5): strong matcha flavor, and the ruby (pink) chocolate was more for looks than taste. The texture of the cookie was super soft without much chew and made it hard to pick up in one piece. It is located in the heart of Bankers Hill near Balboa Park. Parking is metered street parking or near residential areas. i have been wanting to come to Michi Michi for so long but whenever I'd drive by I was intimidated with the long lines, so when my girlfriends wanted to do a catch up with pastries and matcha, I said yes. Lines are always better with a friend and even though we all arrived before opening there was still a healthy line. I was really excited, to finally get to check them out, I saw on their socials that a new chef had taken residency and that they came with some Filipino flair. As a fellow Filipino I definitely wanted to support. I ended up ordering a lumpia roll, ube butter ensaymada, a halo halo tart and a egg sando sandwich along with an iced matcha with honey, with tip my total was $48, which isn't horrible considering these are meant to be higher quality pastries. My girlfriends and I found a table and decided we would share, I shared my egg sando sandwich and the lumpia roll, while they shared their ube butter ensaymada and the turon kouign amann. My matcha, was a horrible, it was a muddy green and really lacked any matcha flavor, my friend didn't like her matcha either and she had the miso caramel matcha. I didn't even finish my matcha and I can really take one down. We joked about how we should have opted for the orange juice instead. Now for the pastries, I was really underwhelmed by them, the ensaymada was just fine, I honestly cannot remember the taste of it, it lacked something. The egg sando sandwich, the filling was plentiful and flavorful BUT the bread was dry, was that potato bread? The texture was off for me and I ended up just scooping out the filling and eating it like that. Where the sando had a good amount of filling the lumpia roll lacked it, it was so sparse I figured it would be more like a sausage roll so I was taken aback by how little there was in it. Flavors were fine, the pastry was buttery but I just wanted a little more. The one pastry we agreed was better than the rest was the turon kouign amann, the crunchy bits of sugar was so reminiscent of turon but the filling, for me was like uncooked banana bread batter, that threw me off entirely. It was better, but not the filling. So overall, I would say it was okay, I guess for the costs it just didn't meet my expectations. read more

I had the privilege of visiting Michi Michi for the first time on their one year anniversary, and let me just say... they really lived up to the hype. Michi Michi is a "bakery collective" in Bankers Hill @ Downtown San Diego, where they curate artisan baked goods from local vendors. There is a rotation of vendors and baked goods, they're open from Thursday through Sunday in the morning and early afternoons, and they sell out when they sell out. This means that you have the best selections when they open in the morning and what they offer may be different every time you come. I really like the concept of buying locally made baked goods and you can find some interesting things here. The drawback is that if you find something that you really love, you may not be able to find it again on a different day. Parking at Banker's Hill is also terrible; however, I'm lucky that my wife is willing to drop me off to pick things up for us. Lastly, I hope that they can make it clearer regarding who is making the sweets that I am buying. If I find something I like, I want to be able to find/follow the independent baker(s) on their socials. Today, I bought a cinnamon roll and kouign amann. The kouign amann was flaky, but had the texture of a crispy cookie, which I didn't prefer. The cinnamon roll was delicious and it had a creamy quality, that made me feel that they did that "heavy cream" infusion that's been trendy on social media. Plenty of surrounding street parking available (meter and free). They have a couple of tables and benches available to eat outside. They have a normal menu on the wall but rotating collaborated menus printed on the window. No restroom from what I could see. We ordered from their October special drink menu and they hit the spot. The flavors were strong. The Ube Potion No 9's Ube flavor was great and didn't taste too fake or too sweet. The Pan De Muerto Latte's orange zest was strong in a very good way. They definitely put a lot of the zest in because you would find yourself sipping and chewing. Their pastries were also flavorful and not too sweet. Such a cute little bakery! It's small so they only have outdoor seating. We ordered the cinnamon roll with cream cheese frosting and I think it's the best cinnamon roll I've ever had! Each bite was so fluffy and gooey. read more

I might just be in love with that French onion croissant. It was heavenly. It's hard to make a decision when you are there yet you can't go wrong.
