I wouldn't go out of my way to come to king buffet, but if you find yourself here, because it was someone else's pick, I offer the following: Definitely try the salt and pepper shrimp - it's the most exceptional thing on the buffet tables. Wait until they refill the tray, so it's freshly fried - it's an excellent take on an excellent dish. The sushi rolls are pretty good, The hot and sour soup is a stand out, as well, and the honey prawns were quite good. If I would have read the reviews which gave King Buffet 2 stars I probably would not have stopped. In between shopping at Walmart and Costco we decided to try King Buffet on a Monday at 2:00. The lunch price is $7.99 until 3:30 which is less than some burgers cost at other (unnamed) places in the same parking lot. To me lunch is one $ sign. I have never had salmon at a buffet that tasted as good and fresh. The various California rolls were all good. My wife enjoyed the chicken on a stick, egg drop soup and yes, the salmon. We also ate the more normal Chinese dishes and everything tasted good. The fruit was fresh and the lychees were great for dessert. We plan to return the next time we are in the area." It almost sounds like the reviews are for a different restaurant ! One review states that they contracted intestinal issues within minutes of eating at the King Buffet, bullshit, impossible. It takes hours to get the runs, dumbass! We had lunch at the King, the worse part of the experience was finding the place from the directions we got! The place was clean, the floor was great ( I did not come here to admire the floor). It was quite ( I despise unruly kids). They had a great Shrimp Cervechie and cold Pickled Octopus that was great! They had a Mongolian BBQ that was good ( it is hard to rave about the cook). They had the usual selections that were fresh ( we got there at 1:00 PM, they were not crowded). The staff was prompt and attentive. The days of the real cheap Chinese buffets are long gone so under ten bucks for lunch, with a beverage is standard fare. Definitely not the greatest. The service was good but the food was cold and hard and not satisfying. Sadly. I was very hungry and left disappointed for sure. Definitely eat here if you value quantity over quality. The place is clean enough, but the food mostly mostly all has a funny, stale taste to it. We were hungry and going out for dinner after a long trip from Mammoth Lakes to Carson City. Here we are along US 395 and we see Asian restaurants from Minden to Carson City. We tried this place because it was a nice area. I hope this is not typical of Chinese and Sushi Buffet places, because it would be a bad example for those curious about Asian food for the Carson Valley. The sushi was not fresh and the rice had a dry texture. The vegetable dishes have been under the lights too long, as the broccoli in the broccoli beef had a yellowish color. They do have a Mongolian BBQ area, I didn't try it but that maybe the only thing that was fresh. The people were nice and responded to your needs. I wish the food would have done the same. For $12.99 at dinner may sound OK but might be a good idea to steer clear unless you are going to die of starvation. read more

Went there with my husband at about 4:15 pm, just when dinner service started and the food looked like it had been left over from lunch. Food was slimy, gross, looked old and was overcooked. We live in reno, the King Buffet in Reno is ok... heard about they are from one family... so eat at carson city king buffet when we were in carson during the weekend. But the vegetable was not fresh... the hot dish was cold... not tasty... very poor food and we are very disappointed... the waiters there were all very friendly. It's been years since I have been here. It used to be a lunch favorite when I was in high school. However my most recent trip did not live up to expectation. Some of the food was far from hot, though I think that might have had to do with the time of day because it seemed like they were bringing out hot "more fresh" food as we were leaving. The staff seemed to be hovering around strangely, but they were very helpful as far as refilling drinks and even cleaning up very politely when one of the kids spilled. As far as price it was very reasonable. The only other thing to add is I would recommend going closer to dinnertime. read more

Wish there was a minus category. We have eaten here every time we come to Tahoe. It's always been acceptable. This time, there are no words to describe it. All the food was Luke warm, dried out and OLD. They were serving leftovers from the night before. It was horrible. We complained to the manager and she admitted that they were having problems with keeping the food hot, and that there were broken appliances in the kitchen. And the owner won't get them fixed. We discouraged another couple from eating there as we were leaving. Spent the entire night on the throne. Will never go there again. The health department needs to shut them down. My husband and I first came here when we were treated out to lunch by friends. We liked it the first time (can't recall why) so we came back a second time. The second time was far worse than the first time that hubby and I both swear that we will not come back here. Food did not taste fresh at all and felt like they were loaded with a lot of MSG. Waiter was rude and did some eye-rolling after I requested for cold water with no ice. Made me wonder if that was too hard for him to do. Blinds were so dirty and so with the lamps hanging over the food stations. Obviously, those were food splatters but couldn't they give that a good clean? If that was how it looked out there in the dining area, I wonder how their kitchen looks like. Makes me think - I might not as well or I'd be thoroughly disgusted, at the very least. I love chinese and where ever I travel to I try it. I went to this King Buffet because the one in Reno is ok. This was the worse chinese I have ever had. There was an asian lady that stood in the buffet area and watched what you were taking, and to top it all off I gave change to get all bills back and I got back the change for the bill as if I never gave the coins, and for this priveledge I paid over $50 for my family of 4. We visited King Buffet's Sushi Room for the all-you-can-eat Lunch Buffet. This was one of the only times I've ever seen all-you-can-eat sushi that is made to order. It was excellent! All of the rolls were very tight and obviously made by a master. The Angelmaki (California roll with baby lobster! on top with special house sauce) was awesome and that combined with the Spider roll (soft shell crab) was worth the $14.99 price of admission by themselves. Our waitress was fast, friendly, very attentive to our needs, and all of her menu suggestions were dead on. We will definitely return (I could imagine going once a month, at least!) and recommend King Buffet's Sushi Room to all sushi lovers! read more
